Wonderful speech Dr.Crum! Thank you so much, it’s amazing how this few minutes of your educational video have changed my life. My husband was overweight by more than 100Lbs, using some of your data, I designed a psychological assurance plan to help him loose weight. When he gets dress daily I assure him that he most be eating a lot less, because he has dropped significantly weight. To begin this, I bought a mimic of his daily outfits one size bigger, cut all labels and washed them to make them look used. Hid away the real ones and one morning after a few days of good encouragement he noticed that his clothes were loose. He looked at himself different, his bp is more controlled, getting rid of his diabetes, he has lost 30 pounds so far. Our kids encouraged him too ,we are getting him healthy again:) this worked better than anything we have tried over a span of 20 years!!! Thank you so much!!

One of the best TED talks that I have seen and my catch is to change your mindset before you start so as to get a more favorable outcome, change the game!
Notice how she sounded more confident towards the end. Love how she still delivered well despite being nervous. Once you change your focus to the message, her quivering voice wouldn’t even matter. One of the best contents I’ve watched.
Truly fascinating. My mother was a strong advocate of developing and maintaining positive mindset. Damn, it's only 50 years later and I'm finding out she was right all along! Great, simple advice. Love it!
Watched this 3 weeks ago, told some friends about it last night and then went to send the link today seeing all these comments about how nervous she is. Not once did I even think about that. All I thought about was the mindset growth.
Thank you Dr. Alia Crum. You have really inspired me to have a more positive mindset in all aspects of my life. I will have increased awareness from now on about all my negative thought processes and will try to change my thinking for the better. Keep up the good work with your amazing research.
There's a reason why the personal development field is so much about mindset, beliefs, ideas, attitude and so on.. Science seems to be finally catching up. Mind affects body. Body affect mind. The external world affects our internal world and vice versa.
Why are so many people focusing on what they think she is feeling and not paying attention to the education she is bringing? I bet if she was a man everyone would be saying what amazing research he did! Take your opinions off the table and start to hear what is being said. What an amazing woman!
Awesome Talk. I learned two things here: The power of mindset and that we are all here to help each other like this woman is doing here for the world thru a TEDtalk. The late Dr. Wayne Dyer said, dont die with the music still in you and the world is hearing her music. We all have purpose. To anyone reading this, 2020 is over let go of the hardships from it, 2021 is your year, you dont have to wait til New Years, let the world hear your song. It all starts with Changeing your mindset. God bless everyone and stay safe.
actually this is quite natural in some people, notice she does it to the end, nervous people will change their tone of voice even if it's down to the end. this is the same placebo effect she is speaking about, we perceive that she is nervous because of the way she sound, now if this was and experiment, with three other speakers, you would not have said that she was nervous. because of her voice. but some people's voices are naturally so,
Febha Mathew Dounr it cuz after she made that little joke about being in the dark and got some laughs her voice started to clear up. I’m guessing she started to relax a bit
Imagine giving a speech based on how you're feeling in that moment and you literally have to apply/rely and on the topic of of your speech to propel you through the entire presentation. She did an amazing job 🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾
To be honest I didn’t even realize she was nervous because the facts were too good, as long as she gets the word out that’s all that matters nervous or not she told her speech very well👍🏽
I honestly think she was excited to share her info more then her sounding nervous. To me it seemed she was truly passionate about her speech and couldn’t wait to share. Great video!!
She was nervous and she was aware of that, and she was perfectly had it under control. She started and finished it the way she should. Information she gave was priceless. Let's don't forget that she is not a singer. Thank you so much Dr. Alia Crum, YOU ROCK
I love Dr. Alia Crum... that small vibration in her voice, which people think are nervousness, to me is her signature style. And what an amazing, enabling, and englightening wisdom she shared.... She has got perfect wit - especially when at 14.50 second, after video clip the lights did not come back - she said, and "here we are.... (lights did not come back) in dark"...... all the reason to love her forever.
i love her presence and words. she's amazing..... nervous and victorious 💙 she showed a great study to us... smiling and trembling... very original ❤❤❤
This is the only TedTalk I recommend to my friends, and to which I come back to watch every year. I am a medical student, when days would get dark and all seemed to be at stake, I'd watch this under a tree, at times with my friends. With much tender emotion, with much joy at times. I was in year 1 then, now I am in year 5. Yes, Dr Crum is the Viktor Frankl of our time. ❤ In Swahili, we call a dr daktari. Yes, go go daktari. God's eye on you.❤
This was one of the best TEDX Talks I've ever heard. I loved how positive and inspiring Dr. Alia was. She is absolutely a fantastic speaker and a courageous one. 💕💕
The stress study was rather intriguing. It explains so much of how I react to certain situations. When highly stressed I am overly productive and can focus on tasks more clearly. However when stress is prolonged for years, it causes problems in my body. Eventually bringing in harmful effects until the stress is minimized.
I've never seen anyone with such a tremble in voice and despite of that, continuing for so long. That's remarkable and most differentiating trait a person can have. Pure gem.
I was reminded of my own crippling "stage fright" in my college public speaking class. I have never been to speak in front of an audience without my mouth drying out & my knees vibrating out from under me. All of that is made more strange by the fact I never once experienced any stage fright as a musician. I have been face to face with at least 10,000 fans at once and each one of them actually empowered me like an energy "vending machine" ! I feel that the biggest difference in the 2 scenarios is that you are usually trying to persuade audience members with a speech . With a musical concert setting you have likely already won their approval and the performance is more akin to a "victory lap". Incredibly well-thought-out presentation and a lot more intriguing than most. She really is an asset to this body of information! Thanks again & hope to see & hear much more ! RBO
this probably is the most important speech on whole TED.. incredible, if I'd be in the comitee for the Novel price I'd give her all of them; this is what ever single human on the planet should know about !
I get nervous for two or three seconds at the beginning. But if it lasts longer than that, I lose my train of thoughts and deliver not so good. She did a really good job. Wow!
This Dr. is great to see. This tells me that since she got out all the knowledge on top of her anxiety, that her mindset about stress was beyond average. This Dr. simply was shaking not over fear but due to a diaphram which was practicing breathing out words and a mind that was working fast on nerves, which all tells me she will be a damn good speaker and speak her words with no shake later down the road. She listened and obsorbed lots of data and could say it all using air. This is not fear!!!
It was one of the best things about mindsets you can find here on youtube. Really. It's kind of thing that everyone has to know about. showing exactly the effect of both the bad point of view, and the good one. congratulations Alia Crum keep going.
This is a great talk! I'm so glad I listened to it. I live alone, I used to like to be alone but now I'd rather be with people and I'm in the doldrums. I really needed to hear this talk to inspire me to look at my situation and my opportunities positively, and start making all the parts of my life, including my solitude, experiences I can enjoy.
Amazing! This is what some people call the law of attraction. What we think becomes our reality. We are responsible for everything happening to us in our lives. Most of our thoughts however come from our subconscious mind, which makes it more difficult to control. Dr Alia Crum, would you teach us how to shift our mindset?
Instead of judging her that how nervous she was...my mindset says that, thats the nature we all have and everybody has faced it thats not an issue right? focus on what information she is tryin to give us. And I'm really amazed to see how dedicated she was on her research finding these conclusions. Really proud of her she did a great job. Well I'm proud of my mindset. A clap for me👏
Amazing and brilliant study. I truly believe that our mindsets affect reality in every single aspect of our lives, and even in the lives of other people. The Pygmalion effect is a very interesting demonstration of this. Having this knowledge is very empowering. Thanks to TEDx and Dr Crum!
Thanks. Well presented and good new data. At one extreme : Mind is Nothing. Other extreme : Mind is Everything. Middle and best path: Mind is something. Like a combination lock, our mindset is one of the keys that has to be punched in. Without it the lock will not open but also just with it, the lock won't open either.
This talk has actually led me to reconsider my approach to physical training, since I was 15 years old I train hard almost every day, literally every muscle in my body aches, but I had adopted this mentality of always doing more because it is never enough and never be satisfied mainly because of all the content of the media, and as time passed I did not see results that I liked, I always believed that I was not doing enough or that I had to criticize, I could not sleep peacefully, I did everything wrong as long as I did not leave my 110% every day. When I started training with other people (who also had an athletic background) and had them do half of what I did, after a few weeks they showed muscle gains greater than what I was getting with the same type of training. The difference was that they believed that what they did was more than enough and they always felt satisfied with their efforts looking to the future positively with respect to the results, for my part I did the opposite... I don't want to say that what was exposed in the video has given me an immediate response, but I definitely need to reconsider the mindset I've built all these years, especially for my emotional health.
@@garimakharra1784 First of all, clarify that I am not a specialist and my opinion is based on and influenced by my experience. I think that the objective you are aiming for goes beyond just changing your mentality, of course that is essential, but you have to support it with changes in your behavior as well. I think that's the beauty of wanting to develop oneself, any positive change generates a chain of small changes in other areas of life, I recommend looking at it as if it were a synergy. For example, if I want to study and learn more, I must first be aware of my way of learning, you can ask yourself questions like, what do I do when I read? Do I take notes? Do I make summaries? so that you can make adjustments that allow you to have a meaningful understanding. That requires an effort at a cognitive and emotional level because sometimes it is more entertaining to be on Netflix or Instagram than reading, but you manage your emotions in a way that helps you stay focused. In addition, to enhance your learning you must have an adequate sleep schedule, a good diet, among other activities. Finally, I believe that one of the most important aspects, regarding the development of a growth mentality, is knowing yourself, knowing what you think, what you believe, and whether or not that helps you to be who you want to be, since You are with yourself 24 hours a day, so it is important to educate and guide your inner voice towards a better lifestyle.

Congratulations Professor Crum. As a physical therapist I believe that this is an absolutely fantastic message to get across to all patients but especially my interest area stroke survivors. The concept that our brains act like pharmacies to produce physiological reactions (hormones/growth factors etc) based on what we believe is a vitally important message to get across to anyone trying to recover physically after an illness or injury. It combines brilliantly with the idea of priming your brain for success. This research is invaluable and you do such a brilliant job describing it. It is one of the main concepts that underpin stroke rehabilitation in my opinion.
Dr. Joe Dispenza has written a great book on this topic: "The Placebo Effect", giving the same (and many more) examples, but also explaining why the body reacts this way. This topic is truly fascinating!

This may be my favorite TED ever. She did a great job period, even tho she was nervous. I noticed her nervousness was nearly gone after she showed the stress video. She had time to collect herself and say “you’re owning this” and it frees her. Awesome job.
I see beauty in her nervousness. This is being human. She is amazing!
Yes she is nervous, but it gets better later. Her presentation is soooo interesting!! Props to her
This is glorious, I been tryin to find out about "mind reprogramming" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Giyoe Fonogan Builder - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
Well done doctor! Tnx for sharing your knowledge with us. Good luck to you!

I wonder based on her theory if she is nervous because she is thinking she is nervous.

I see comments so I can remind myself that there are people who watches marvelous videos like these and stay motivated and positive. Whenever I lose hope, I come to see the amazing supportive comments
This lady is amazing, I love her positive energy and her genuine love of her subject matter. This is what I am looking for not some quack washed up charlatan trying to sell you their book by spelling half truths for half an hour then saying, but my book and you can change your life!

😭😭 I can’t even make a class presentation when am nervous. She stays positive and has control. She’s doing great despite being nervous 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Wow she’s so awesome. Despite she’s nervous and her voice shivers she’s done a great presentation. Well done.
After 4 years of feeling nothing but emotionless and emptiness, this woman has reduced me, a 23 year old guy, to tears...
I will wake up tomorrow feeling inspired to change my life for the better.
Thank You.
I hope things have been going better for you, I'm sorry you have been struggling.
Thank you for sharing and your honesty
Thanks for this amazing information !! If you don't find a means of multiplying money, you will wake up one day to realize that the money you thought you had, has finished. Investment is key, I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life
Exactly and many of us don't know where to invest our money so we invest it on wrong places and to the wrong people
Very true, I started investing before the pandemic and that same year I pulled a profit of about $750k with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was seeking guidance from *ROCHELLE DUNGCA-SCHREIBER* who's a guru in the game, you can be passively involved with the aid of a professional.
i remember when I shifted my whole routine and mindset in college. I started journaling, meditating, and writing down my gratitudes. That shifted my whole mindset. I felt like my mind was way more optimistic. A change in mindset changes everything
How long did it take you to change your mindset and stick with it
Ashley leesman Truthfully a long time. Probably a few years. I started small though. First it was meditating once a day for 10 minutes, then it was doing stream of consciousness journaling, and then filling my time with positive friends and experiences.
Yeah but did you have the Holy Spirit as a guide line?
ALIA, My name is Daniel, I was in active addiction for 20+ years, 30 rehabs, countless detox, and THIS VIDEO CHANGED MY LIFE!! IM NOW IN COLLEGE FOR MY DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY, HAVE BEEN CLEAN FOR LONG TIME, AND THE POINT ISN'T THAT I CAN'T RELAPSE, I WON'T!!! MY MINDSET WILL NOT LET ME GO THERE ANYMORE. THIS AN EXTREMELY UNIQUE AND RARE OCCASION WHERE THE SUCCESS RATE FOR ME IS PRACTICALLY ZERO!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I am drawn even more to her presentation simply because she kept going and finished sharing her message! This is one of my favorite Tedtalks of all time 🎉 thank you
One of the best TED talks that I have seen and my catch is to change your mindset before you start so as to get a more favorable outcome, change the game!
Notice how she sounded more confident towards the end. Love how she still delivered well despite being nervous. Once you change your focus to the message, her quivering voice wouldn’t even matter. One of the best contents I’ve watched.
Have the mindset to not be distracted by flaws in the delivery and truly focus on the message.
Truly fascinating. My mother was a strong advocate of developing and maintaining positive mindset. Damn, it's only 50 years later and I'm finding out she was right all along! Great, simple advice. Love it!
I love u
Watched this 3 weeks ago, told some friends about it last night and then went to send the link today seeing all these comments about how nervous she is. Not once did I even think about that. All I thought about was the mindset growth.
This was an example of a perfectly-executed tedtalk that was not only informative but straight to the point! She did amazing!
Thank you Dr. Alia Crum. You have really inspired me to have a more positive mindset in all aspects of my life. I will have increased awareness from now on about all my negative thought processes and will try to change my thinking for the better. Keep up the good work with your amazing research.
Thank you for teaching us so many new ways to look at life and for being so brave.
Same here.
From now on, I'll check whenever negative mindset occurs.
There's a reason why the personal development field is so much about mindset, beliefs, ideas, attitude and so on.. Science seems to be finally catching up. Mind affects body. Body affect mind. The external world affects our internal world and vice versa.
***** ? Sounds cool though so please explain.
"Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right"
Guys, her voice just has a quiver, she has a beautiful smile and she can walk around, I don't think she's that scared or nervous....
actually this is quite natural in some people, notice she does it to the end, nervous people will change their tone of voice even if it's down to the end.
this is the same placebo effect she is speaking about, we perceive that she is nervous because of the way she sound, now if this was and experiment, with three other speakers, you would not have said that she was nervous. because of her voice. but some people's voices are naturally so,
keen observer This didn't make a lick on sense.
Febha Mathew Dounr it cuz after she made that little joke about being in the dark and got some laughs her voice started to clear up. I’m guessing she started to relax a bit
@@mikeytobago So insightful.. you obviously got what she was saying..love it
I like how her speech is based on studies .
Yeah based testing and trying...Not just quoting the books...As many of them are wrong when it comes to how things work....
Imagine giving a speech based on how you're feeling in that moment and you literally have to apply/rely and on the topic of of your speech to propel you through the entire presentation. She did an amazing job 🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾
her energy through the whole thing is admirable , she is the definition of resilience
The placebo effect just scientifically proves how powerful our minds are. She was awesome! 👏
This TED talk was amazing, she was so clear and I was hooked at every word she said! Great job and really interesting
She has got perfect wit - especially when at 14.50 second, after video clip the lights did not come back - she said, and
"here we are.... (lights did not come back) in dark"......
all the reason to love her forever.
i love her presence and words. she's amazing..... nervous and victorious 💙 she showed a great study to us... smiling and trembling... very original ❤❤❤
Simply put "WOW". THE best Ted talk and most informative I have ever seen and heard. Applause

This was one of the best TEDX Talks I've ever heard. I loved how positive and inspiring Dr. Alia was. She is absolutely a fantastic speaker and a courageous one. 💕💕
Just beautiful - the whole thing about this talk, the delivery, the content, the pace. Absolutely amazing presentation ♥️
She is really brave and inspiring as she was still able to do her presentation well
No one on this Earth will love you more than you love yourself. Be intentional.
Exactly
In this comment section shows us, we have so much people who console us, who are very kind.
I give her a lot of credit , I use to get nervous on stage as well. She did a good job pushing through. Very smart and I learned a lot.
9 years later and this is even more amazing!
I think she’s just tired and out of breath, but not nervous... she delivered perfectly :)
The stress study was rather intriguing. It explains so much of how I react to certain situations. When highly stressed I am overly productive and can focus on tasks more clearly. However when stress is prolonged for years, it causes problems in my body. Eventually bringing in harmful effects until the stress is minimized.
It's much more impressive to be so coherent and articulate when nervous than if you are just naturally comfortable on stage. Also it's adorable.
Happy that I invested 18 minutes in something really worthy.
Wonderful speech!
Thanks again & hope to see & hear much more !

do you think she need water
this probably is the most important speech on whole TED.. incredible, if I'd be in the comitee for the Novel price I'd give her all of them; this is what ever single human on the planet should know about !
A true demonstration and evidence that mindset over fear and nerves can deliver a kickass presentation and drive the point home! 👏👏👏👏👏

This is definitely one of the best Ted talks I have ever come across.
I admire her bravery by overcoming one of her fear and grown through it. Love it doc!
this is pretty mind blowing. great work & presentation!
This was a fabulous presentation! Thankyou!
Everybody talking about how nervous she was. But I want to Highlight she has given us a powerful message and we should all be thankful ❤👏

I don't want to say that what was exposed in the video has given me an immediate response, but I definitely need to reconsider the mindset I've built all these years, especially for my emotional health.
resting is important, take days off and let your muscles and body recover so that the next time you’re performing in a better shape.
Plz help me i want to study more and remember more from what i study so how i can do that through changing my mindset can u plz guide

How do you not love this woman! Bravo, Dr. Crum!
Dr. Joe Dispenza has written a great book on this topic: "The Placebo Effect", giving the same (and many more) examples, but also explaining why the body reacts this way. This topic is truly fascinating!
She is nervous but she is brave.... She is trying to over come her fear and challenge her self instead of hidding behind... that good example....
