From the day 'Guitars and Gear' video series was posted for the first time, I have been waiting for the Dan's Gretsch time! Awesome! Cheers from Brazil!
Totally agree. I heard my Gretsch being played by another customer in another room and had to go and look. Took my turn to have a play, too one strum and my knees went weak. Perfection
Players Additions are probably the best Gretsch that you can get today. I just picked up the G6120T Players Addition and absolutely love it. Its a keeper!
I just bought a 2018 G6118T P.E. Anniversary model in silver/metallic iridium blue. I’ve been wanting one for a while now, after watching your video and a video from a friend who has this exact model. It should be here in two days.. I’m very stoked! Thanks for this cool video Dan
I've been a Gretsch fan for years, and I love my power jet, but even amongst Gretsches, that one sounds amazing Dan; like the tolling of bells dipped in raunchy sauce. Nice find.
I knew from the (black screen) intro it was going to be a Gretsch - that lovely ‘airy’ sound was a joy to my ears. And in the closing moments, the bliss on your face was a joy to my eyes. I hope to see you play it in Brisbane (or Melbourne?). Thank you for telling the story of your Gretsch.
I've never fallen in love with any Gretsch I've ever played, but I enjoy hearing others play them. I still think Dan's Tele is still the best sounding of all of the guitars featured on the show.
You're a man after my own heart Dan, every time one of these comes out I fall slightly in love with whatever you're playing. Whenever I go into a large-ish guitar shop Gretsch seems to be one of those brands that always have a lefty there yet I so rarely pick one up. That may have to change.
I saw this model guitar completely by chance while doing a general search for local used Gretsch hollow body guitars for sale. I Googled the model for the specs and checked RUclips for demo clips. Up came your video with exactly the same guitar. Fast forward three days during which I was lucky enough to be able to play it first, do the deal (a very fair price when considering the cost of trying to procure one from elsewhere), then even get a couple of jams in. Jam 1 was Blues/Rock at a friend's place. Aside from confirming the sound variety shown in the video I can attest to the fact that these particular High Sensitive Filter'Tron pickups really change the sound just by the amount of attack with the pick. I've never played a guitar with the same control over the level and pitch of the overdriven feedback. I was able to use the Bigsby in a very musical way to control and shape the feedback. Possibly the shallow Hollow Body was a big plus. Jam 2 was much more of a smoother sounding jam at the home of a retired sound engineer. I even attempted the obligatory Wicked Games cover. It does the warm, smooth, mellow, rich vibe with absolute ease. It's reassuring to know, even with the smoother tones, that the bite is waiting patiently until the pick digs in for contrasting attacking tones. Dan I can totally get your reactions while playing this guitar. In my humble opinion this is a good all rounder and in my case definitely a keeper. It's been a few years since you made this clip so I don't know if you still have this guitar but thanks for the detailed and very helpful introduction to this model.
I was lucky enough to get a 6118t 75TH Anniversary model in two tone Cadillac Green for my 50th Birthday. Doesn't have the pinned bridge or the string through Bigsby so I get where your coming from there. Like you, the first time I played it I had to own it as it makes you play way better than on any other guitar. I am lucky enough to own several guitars strats ,Telly's LP but the Gretsch is the Jewel in the crown of my collection. Great Guitars.
Gretsch guitars have something magical about them, that no other guitar can seem to replicate. Even their streamliner collection, although far from Gretsch's best work, still sounds amazing!
I prefer my Electromatic Jet to my Inspired by Gibson Epi tbh. Buying a second one in a few weeks for my birthday. A Pro Series Jet is now my dream guitar.
Everybody who is anybody has a Tele, Strat, LP, 335 and some Gretsches because they all have a distinct sound and purpose but the 6120 DC that they used for recording is the is the best all around and versatile you can find .
I mentioned in one of your other videos that, because of you, I wound up buying this exact same guitar and I have to say it is rapidly becoming my new favorite. It's one of those guitars that inspires you to play.
Mine arrives tomorrow. I feel your pain. Or I will when my wife sees it. In fairness, sold a spare 335 so it's a zero sum game which is our agreement...
I've just got a 5420T after wanting a Gretsch for ages myself! I got it on eBay loaded with TV Jones Classics. Haven't actually had the chance to play it properly though because one of the machine heads got snapped in transit! I've ordered a new set of Wilkinson Waverly style vintage tuners and a TUSQ nut for it though. I already love it. Called her "Penny" because she's big, round and copper coloured! :)
I own an Electromatic center block model and, I'll tell you what, it covers A LOT of tonal ground. Definitely one of the guitars that is not in my revolving door of guitars. She's a keeper!
Gretsch guitars into an AC30, as cliché as they have become in the music that I play in, are just THE quintessential clean sound for ambience and textural playing. Especially the White Falcon.
I've always wanted one of these or a 335. They just sound so warm and full. I just have mostly Les Pauls for now, but I'm sure I'll pick a hollow body up within the coming years.
Words cannot do the beauty of that guitar justice. Just seeing it gave me Gretsch GAS (the G2655T Streamliner in Walnut Stain) and GAS for a guitar with similar looks (the Schecter Solo-II Custom). All things considered, however, my next guitar will be a 2017 PRS SE Santana in Santana Yellow (they finally gave it 24 frets!).
A few things that should be mentioned about your Gretsch. It has a tone pot instead of the typical 3 way tone switch which is a HUGE improvement, a pinless Bigsby, PIO caps, and a big change is ML bracing which couples the top to the back, which really helps in the high volume applications!
I always associated gretsch with rockabilly, until my buddy who's in an AC/DC tribute band played a 64 firebird through a jtm 45/100. Holy crap what a sound! Now I need one
That clean, sparkly neck pickup sound...I think I need to get a filtertron style pickup for my SG. I play clean/edge of breakup mostly on the neck and the humbuckers were too muddy, I currently have a set of HB sized p90s that are better, but I'm missing that sparkle. Maybe a Lollartron. I don't care if it "sounds like an SG", if I could put Telecaster pickups in it I would...a vintage Tele neck with a hotter bridge is just magic. The guitar plays beautifully and the Maestro is very useful for a little extra color but I need brighter pickups...
This is lovely. I have a filtertron on the neck position of my Tele, but I find it so dark and ballsy! It's really hard to balance with the bridge....I fitted a 500k pot which has rendered the bridge a bit bright🤦🏼♂️ I've always fancied trying a Hi-lotron in it's place...
I know this comment is 2 years old haha but I had the same config on my tele and I just bypassed the tone pot for the filter torn and kept a 250 pot for the bridge. Set the amp up so the neck sounds good and then use the tone to take the bridge pickup treble down a smidge. Worked great!
It sure won't man, as long as we are happy for what we have it's all good! I'm liking your combo of axes, I mainly play my trusty Les Paul aswell and tele for singlecoils but agreed that a 335 or maybe a casino on top of that would be stellar, or why not a gretsch? The strat I can live without, sounds good when other people use it but we don't get along ;)
Just love this guitar! - can't afford it, but am currently awaiting a Reverend Club King RT in Clear w/Bigsby and 'Rev'trons', ordered from the States (6-7 weeks into a 9 week wait ... Grrrr!). And I really lust after the revised Gretsch Electromatic 5420T w/Bigsby in delicious Fairlane Blue - Mmmmm, luverleee! That's next! But, MAN! This Anniversary is just gorgeous!
Oh man... i'm quite the opposite, i never wanted a Gretsch, till now! what a classy guitar, the collors are stunning, Black back and White front, who would have tought uh? and you can go easily from Robben Ford and Peter Green straight to Foo Fighters with it! Congrats Dan, and tks for the vid!
So cool! Got one on the way! Love that late Beatles sound. But then, when the occasion calls for it, just switch to the neck pickup and play some jazz. Very versatile and very classy
Struggling to choose between one of these and the fortus signature falcon. Prefer single cut but still like to crank up the gain so the centre block would be handy. Damn hard to find a shop with both in stock to try 🤔 It’s a luxury of a dilemma but still got me pulling my hair out 🙉🤯
Interesting to hear you play this every week in your duo, as we don't see it so much on the show I assumed it was one of the 'lesser' guitars in your collection. Seeing you playing it though, I feel it suits you even more than Red or your LP. Absolutely epic tone!
My Gretsch is my electric guitar of choice in my duo too. Such great soul to help fill out the sound when you've only got two of you and you need to combine with acoustic instruments :-)
Very nice guitar! I have a 6120. Unfortunately, it needs all the mods you mentioned - pinned bridge, locking tuners, string through Bigsby. The combination of a large hollowbody, filtertron pickups and a Bigsby vibrato is the formula for a tone that is sweet and full, but still cuts through the mix.
I got this... played this.... love it... couldn’t get a similar tone like Dan ... would appreciate some help on that... but I’d just like to mention that Dan is probably a tall gentleman for the guitar to look so small in comparison.. I’m a short guy of 5’7 and this guitar is pretty much the size of a jumbo acoustic guitar for me. Not that it’s uncomfortable in any way at all .. but just a size comparison.
That Pedal Show Nice, was it that white one you were worried the wife would notice by any chance? 😄 I fancy a 5420T in Orange (the blue one in that same vid).
Funny! For 20 years I could not find a Gretsch I bonded with! Was convinced it wasn't my thing and then found a 64 Tennessean and SHAZAM! Now with my LP-SG-Strats-Teles and Ric 370! Circle complete! Great through 78 JMP and 79 Deluxe Reverb!
Hi Dan, hopefully this question isn't too late. The Gretsch sounds great, but do you find the intonation is OK considering the bridge doesn't have adjustable saddles?
Hey Dan, what a wonderful guitar that is. Does it still have that....grrrrrrrr....floating bridge? I had an otherwise beautiful gretsch 6121 Chet Atkins RI model but I couldn' get over the zero fret and the floating bridge so it's gone...
Gretsch makes the most beautiful and inspiring guitars ever-maybe not the most practical, but rock'n'roll is not about convenience-. Just adquired a 2008 Silver Falcon used, full size, no pinned bridge, TV Jones on it... no words to describe it. And apart from the heart-stealing looks and clean sound and that Setzer they have inside, into my '79 JMP it does just screams!!! My LP is more easy-going, but Gretsch just makes my heart beat faster!
Yeah, that Silver Falcon just stole my heart ath the first sight.... apart from the cool factor that it's almost impossible to see a Pro line Gretsch here in Catalunya, as most people play Fender and Gretsch... There are guitars that make one look and feel cooler, and then are Gretsches....
I am desperatly searching for a guitar that can handle my expectations of what an amplified guitar could add to a Fender + tube amp (while it was a Fender amp but this doesn´t really matter). I just need to have more warmth and body. Seems it has to be a Gretsch.
Hey Dan and Mick, Ive watched this video countless times and cant get over the amazing sound of the guitar. I personally have a grestch pro jet but i dont feel like it compares to your G6118t. I play on a boss katana but i dont feel as if im getting the real grestch sound with the pickups and capacitord i have. I was really considering aquiring and installing the same pickups as your Grestch Dan, but wanted to confirm if it was a good idea. The sounds im going for were both presented in this video. I loved the dirtyness of the bridge pickup and the cleanness of the neck. Would yoy recommend me to replace the pickups as planned or recommend me to do something else instead. Thanks for you time and cant wait to hear back from you both.
+Noe Barboza Hi Noe. Not sure what's in your Gretsch, but the proper Filter'Trons really do have a sound of their own. Also the ProJet sounds very different anyway, being much closer to a solid body. The attack and sustain of the notes is completely different on a hollow body. Also, we're playing good and loud through a couple of tube amps and that makes a huge difference too. Good luck with it if you decide to swap them out!
With you guys having 230v and 50hz electricity in the UK/Britian, does this effect the quality of your tone or reduce the hum-cancelling qualities of certain pickups? Would British made-wound pickups sound differently in the US?
It's not really for that (though I think a bunch of Gretsch players down the years might disagree). Mick here. All the money is below the seventh fret anyway. :0)
@@ThatPedalShow Hahaha true ! I finally ordered this guitar after waiting more than year. It wasn't available anywhere in my country. Recently became available and I ordered it instantly. Can't wait to play it !! 😍
+Adam K There was no tussle really. It was always going in Dan's direction. Mick is fixated on a 335 at the mo. But managed to pick up an Electromatic in the meantime. Ahem.
+Matthew Law They're both very different from a 335-type thing. Duesy have their own thing going on for sure - well worth an audition alongside a Gretsch. All very cool and exciting - no losers there. :0)
the last question on the list.. what setup are we hearing the guitar through? I'm always curious when you demo your instruments what amp/speaker/pedals I'm hearing it through.
Hey Dan. I've had the opportunity to play both guitars for a while. In short, I wish I could own them both! The G6118T is a great guitar: awesome playability and great note definition and presence. It has more bass and just rocks with a British style amp. The Falcon has this absolutely lovely chime in all pickup positions, which I fell in love with. It is a much more traditional Gretsch and also bigger in size. There's a great demo on Guitarist called "Gretsch 2016 Players Edition Vs. Reissue Edition shootout". Either guitar is great!
The grin of satisfaction on Dan's face at the very end says all. Well done Gretsch!
I have one of these and I agree. One of the best guitars I own. Loves being played!
Nice to see someone genuinely grinning & loving their new guitar rather than trying to sell it to us!
Congratulations 👌

Totally agree. I heard my Gretsch being played by another customer in another room and had to go and look. Took my turn to have a play, too one strum and my knees went weak. Perfection
What a joy, to watch a man in his element…
Congrats, Daniel!
Because of this video I just bought one of these guitars! Just absolutely astonishing in every way! Thanks Dan!
Just ordered one of these and this video just gets me even more excited to have it in my hands.
I can see from here that you are totally in love with that guitar. And I can see why. It's gorgeous, and sounds awesome. Congratulations, Dan
I'm so glad I bought an Electromatic about a year ago. It has become my favorite guitar to play. This one sounds great!
Players Additions are probably the best Gretsch that you can get today. I just picked up the G6120T Players Addition and absolutely love it. Its a keeper!

Beautiful playing Dan, need to hear more of you!
Because of this, I just ordered the 6119t Tennessee Rose Players edition. Thanks Dan. Can't wait to play it !!!!
I've been a Gretsch fan for years, and I love my power jet, but even amongst Gretsches, that one sounds amazing Dan; like the tolling of bells dipped in raunchy sauce. Nice find.

I’m already in love with this... gonna save for sometime and get this beauty imported. 😍

+Matt Eaglesham yep, they really are very very special guitars
That Gretsch is the only guitar I've heard that made me question whether I'm actually a Les Paul guy.
I've been a strat guy all my life and the minute I tried a Gretsch, I practically stopped being a strat guy. Now all I need to do is buy one.
Gretsch guitars have something magical about them, that no other guitar can seem to replicate. Even their streamliner collection, although far from Gretsch's best work, still sounds amazing!
Amen bro
After playing one myself, i knew im 100% still a les paul player
I prefer my Electromatic Jet to my Inspired by Gibson Epi tbh. Buying a second one in a few weeks for my birthday. A Pro Series Jet is now my dream guitar.
It’s great seeing some really dig playing. Beautiful Gretsch as all of them are. Enjoy your Gretsch and play loud!
Awesome, and no gratuitous Rockabilly licks either. Your face at the end- priceless.
Everybody who is anybody has a Tele, Strat, LP, 335 and some Gretsches because they all have a distinct sound and purpose but the 6120 DC that they used for recording is the is the best all around and versatile you can find .

+TsiratiugZ man, well done, it truly is a remarkable instrument. They've nailed this one :)
Pete Townshend played a 6120 from Joe Walsh on almost all of the 70's Who songs, including all of Who's Next. There's the Gretsch rock credentials.
Beautiful. I wanted a red tele cus of you. Now I want a Gretsch. Thanks Daniel. Haha
The Gospel of Mark same
Mine arrives tomorrow. I feel your pain. Or I will when my wife sees it. In fairness, sold a spare 335 so it's a zero sum game which is our agreement...
i did not expect this clean sound from a humbucker guitar. what an incredible sounding instrument!
Filter'Tron humbuckers have less output than PAF humbuckers and are very bright, though variations exist which share neither quality.
Since I bought a Gretsch I find them like a Telecaster, in the fact What Can't you do with a Gretsch. Very versatile instrument is an understatement.
You guys should use this format to cover your amps next.
+Frederick Pfeiffer yep, on the way :)
And your pedalboards!?
I own an Electromatic center block model and, I'll tell you what, it covers A LOT of tonal ground. Definitely one of the guitars that is not in my revolving door of guitars. She's a keeper!
...and the quality control on their stuff coming out of Korea is simply top notch.
Gretsch guitars into an AC30, as cliché as they have become in the music that I play in, are just THE quintessential clean sound for ambience and textural playing. Especially the White Falcon.

+Robstafarian she sure is special, PRS sounds sweet ;)
I have a 64 6117 , the sunburst version but always fancied the green ones , mine has the hilotron pickups though
A few things that should be mentioned about your Gretsch. It has a tone pot instead of the typical 3 way tone switch which is a HUGE improvement, a pinless Bigsby, PIO caps, and a big change is ML bracing which couples the top to the back, which really helps in the high volume applications!
Ive only just realised how good these look and sound . Probable because of poison ivy of the cramps
I have the green one. That and a K-Line Tele is all I need for electric gigs.
I love these videos! I hope you guys got a lot more guitars lying around.
I never really thought about a Gretsch before but this one gives me GAS like mad...Will own one someday.
I always associated gretsch with rockabilly, until my buddy who's in an AC/DC tribute band played a 64 firebird through a jtm 45/100. Holy crap what a sound! Now I need one
+MrBingping Yes to all of that. Such a cool sound all round!
Nowadays I feel like I associate Gretsch with a lot of the worship guys
ACDC Core sound came from Malcolm Young "the engine room" on his gretsch
Yes.. Lets hear some AC/DC on that thing !!! Awesome guitar Dan.
MrBingping yeah they sound soooo good!!
Great video. Those guitars always sound nice, the really complete a guitar inventory.
That clean, sparkly neck pickup sound...I think I need to get a filtertron style pickup for my SG. Sound absolute killer, I understand why you've used it's great that you brought it to the show!
Compliments the Tele great!
+Mike Hudson yeah, this, the tele, and the LP... and the Jr... I need a Strat, maybe a 335, arghhhh, it doesn't end. But jees it's fun :)
It sure won't man, as long as we are happy for what we have it's all good!

Sounds beautiful! 👏👏 love it! Congratulations!

I've always sorta kinda liked Gretsch guitars but never as much as Gibsons or Fenders. But this Gretsch in particular just sounds glorious.
Completely share your feelings! Great guitar!
So cool! Got one on the way! Love that late Beatles sound. But then, when the occasion calls for it, just switch to the neck pickup and play some jazz. Very versatile and very classy
+Hayden Barrow it’s such a great guitar, I need to play it more

I will have that guitar one day ,in 2 tone lotus Ivory
Damn you, Dan. Mine arrives tomorrow. New ones are running low, just for the record.
Beautiful looking and sounding guitar Dan! I really want a Gretsch in my life, but it will be an Electromatic for me I reckon.
+Rob Holiday I've just bought a Electromatic, Rob (Mick here). It's great! And it'll be coming up in a few vids.... cheers!
That Pedal Show Nice, was it that white one you were worried the wife would notice by any chance? 😄
I fancy a 5420T in Orange (the blue one in that same vid).
I am sooo in love with that guitar, must have one day indeed. 😍😁
+Jonathan Farias yep, she's amazing
Dan and CW stone king both made me want a Grestch! Just another piece of gear for my list I guess ;)
I'm more or less the same. Stoneking made me want to buy an electric guitar
CJ Amen brother! My exact thoughts

sounds great.
Hi Dan, hopefully this question isn't too late. The Gretsch sounds great, but do you find the intonation is OK considering the bridge doesn't have adjustable saddles?
Dan, any chance we can get Dave Gregory as a guest on TPS one of these days? 🎸🎸
Would love to see a video of Micks Lonestar and Dan's ac30
+Tobias Hawthorne yep, some amp videos coming soon

i love the lack of binding on the neck but hate the colour. seems they always come like this
My '61, #6117 annie is sunburst beauty
I know it’s not the ‘right’ Gretsch, but I think you need to do some Enz and Crowded House covers on this bad boy.
Do you use Flat wound strings? Anyone?
Gretsch makes the most beautiful and inspiring guitars ever-maybe not the most practical, but rock'n'roll is not about convenience-. Just adquired a 2008 Silver Falcon used, full size, no pinned bridge, TV Jones on it... no words to describe it. And apart from the heart-stealing looks and clean sound and that Setzer they have inside, into my '79 JMP it does just screams!!! My LP is more easy-going, but Gretsch just makes my heart beat faster!
+urilacambrafrias Ours too after that description! What a wonderful guitar!
Man what a beauty,
Awesome!
Hi, if you had to choose one between Duesenberg starplayer deluxe and Gretsch 6118 anniversary, which would you go with? Thanks
I am desperatly searching for a guitar that can handle my expectations of what an amplified guitar could add to a Fender + tube amp (while it was a Fender amp but this doesn´t really matter). I just need to have more warmth and body. Seems it has to be a Gretsch.
Once again, a great video! But when will you do your amps? I'm very curious to learn more about the Lazy J :-)
I am more interested in the Brunetti which has not been heard in an episode.
+FKnoph amps will be up next ;)
Great! Looking forward to it! :-)
Hey Dan and Mick,
Ive watched this video countless times and cant get over the amazing sound of the guitar.
Yep!
Can you play up the neck on this easily ? Because I find it difficult even on my Les Paul.
The black back/sides really pops against the top. Awesome. So how'd you guys decide who won the "tussle" over it?
+Adam K There was no tussle really. It was always going in Dan's direction. Mick is fixated on a 335 at the mo. But managed to pick up an Electromatic in the meantime. Ahem.
+Adam K I tried some 2016 ones on for Andertons channel and was blown away!
She is a beauty
i was especting the wicked game riff during all the video... ;)
+Frank A. Trevis I know, I play it every time I pick up the guitar, can't help it ;)
Really want one of these type guitars. Gretsch or a Duesenberg maybe? I got one of those Epi 335s and its okay I guess
+Matthew Law They're both very different from a 335-type thing. Duesy have their own thing going on for sure - well worth an audition alongside a Gretsch. All very cool and exciting - no losers there. :0)
I've played a Gretsch and they make you play in such a different way its so refreshing. Would love to own one for sure. Want to try something new! :)
I love your collection! It's perfect. You just need a 335.
+Christian Yes we do. Mission in progress.
That Pedal Show Yay! Can't wait!
That Pedal Show By the way! Your clinic from Copenhagen Guitar Show is up. If you're interested :-)
Kingsley Maiden? Is this new? I haven't seen it on the show before.
+Savage Cabbage brand spanking!
Hey, just wondering if either Mick or yourself have ever tried a Gretsch Duo Jet with Dynasonic pickups and your thoughts on it.
my next guitar
Let me sound off on that great tone. Heavenly! I'm going to give you some great feedback on that feedback. Love it so! :-)
how about a semi hollow body shut out on how they respond to pedals? eh? (i just want to see you guys rock out with an es335 ;)
Would you put TV Jones PowerTrons or TV Classics instead of the standard HS FilterTrons?
This channel has driven me to the brink of bankruptcy. True story.
the last question on the list.. what setup are we hearing the guitar through? I'm always curious when you demo your instruments what amp/speaker/pedals I'm hearing it through.
+Matthew Maneri All in the description Matthew. Cheers!
sounds absolutely amazing. especially that overdrive tone. what amp and pedals were you using here?
+theused0321 the OD tone with a good Gretsch is in a class all its own :)
Dan - I'm considering either the G6118T Ann. or G6136T Falcon. I can't try them out beforehand. They seem very similar. Any thoughts?
What about the Krautster?
