It's a little crazy that this was nearly 30 years into his career. His first band was formed in 1957. What a legend.
It was a Jazz band. The a
Ont of different genre he could do with no problem. Was one reason why he was one of the best.
My favorite Dio song is Stargazer. To me, it is the perfect combination of his incredible ability to tell stories and a mesmerizing instrumentation. One of the best songs ever written imo.
For me it's Stargazer too. Probably the most epic rocksong ever.
Gates of babylon is up there. It works reslly well his style
Stargazer is definitely it for me. Ritchie Blackmore deserves a lot of credit for it along with Dio. Cozey Powell too. Neither Stargazer nor Gates of Babylon could possibly have been made without all three of them.
"Mistreated" Rainbow live 1977, Munich 🌈❤️🤘🏻
My favourite song that has Ronnie in it. Is “The Sign of The Southern Cross”
Elisabeth of The Charismatic Voice once said that she thought all opera singers should study Dio, how he uses his vowels, how he starts and ends phrases, his story telling, etc. I think we can all agree!
No we cant.
@@Nichwar19 oh yes we can!
Absolutely.
@@Nichwar19 Shoo
@@Nichwar19 Yes, we clearly can.
I remember so many people thought us metal heads were nuts for listening to this stuff back in the day, and we couldn't figure out why they did not see how amazing it was
Exactly, back in the 70s my parents generation was clueless and said it was 'noise', LOL! Boy were they wrong.
It's kind of funny how many more people get it now. Metal has been sneaky and the riffs and guitars have gradually been added to commercials, movies, tv series, sampled into rap, is part of a lot other genres. And thus people have adjusted subconsciously and more people can appreciate it now. Even my parents would react differently now.
The quintessential metal voice and the absolutely best vibrato ever.
Dio originally thought this song was "too commercial and pop culture". He was afraid is wasn't heavy enough compared to his songs with Black Sabbath and he was gonna destroy the master tapes until Vivian Campbell stopped him and convinced him to get more outside opinions of the song.
It is a bit "commercial", but that doesn't make it bad. A great song for sure!
Haha ridiculous, considering he'd do stuff like "Sacred Heart" and "Mystery" later (even more commercial, but still good and certainly better than all the glam metal Dio co-existed with).
@@sdjslkdjlsskldjslkdjsl8262 "Hungry for Heaven" (from the Vision Quest soundtrack) is probably the pinnacle of his overtly commercial phase.
Rumour has it he actually held a razor to the tape but hesitated at the very last moment. The rest is history.
My favourite Dio song is “Sign of the Southern Cross”
It warms my heart for Dio to be acknowledged and get the accolades that his singular voice deserves. He was truly one of a kind. 🤘
Phew... Neon Knights, The Sign of The Southern Cross, Mob Rules, Gates of Babylon, Kill The King, A Light in The Black, Long Live Rock'n'Roll, Stand Up And Shout, Holy Diver, Heaven And Hell, Tarot Woman, Lady of The Lake, ...
So many to chose from, so little time... After so many decades, he and the bands he has been part of are still part of my daily playlists...
🤘🏻🤩🤘🏻
The Man Who Would Be King?
The intro to that song was done in one take.
I was in a concert of Dio + Black Sabbath. I can tell you for sure: he was the greatest male heavy metal vocalist ever with his stage presence. His technique lead him to a thriving career with a surprising longevous voice. ALL PRAISE TO DIO!
I would have loved to have seen him in concert.
I see what you did at the end, very nice!
You can listen to DIO a million times, even the same song over and over and guess what......he'll still amaze you. RIP Ronnie a voice precious voice that can't be hear live again.
That man was just something else... Head and shoulders above 99% of rock and metal singers, quality-wise, and a profoundly good person. Edit: My favorite Dio songs are Stand up and shout, Temple of the king, The last in line, and Stargazer. I always come back to the first two when I'm feeling down and low.
When you're feeling down and low, stand up and shout... let it out!!!
I know a lot of artists have said he was incredibly humble and friendly, all while just dominating the stage with confidence. I'm glad you recognise him here. 🙂
He is one of a kind. I believe every word because he sings with such passion.
He will not be replicated, anytime soon!
Dio. The one and only.
My favorite Dio track is "Stargazer" - there's a powerful guitar riff and even stronger Ronnie's voice.
Some people are just born different. Ronnie was gifted with an amazing voice.
Dio is fantastic 😊. I love watching him perform live ❤ I also love that I can understand what he’s saying 😊
Yes, even with poor video you can hear the words. His delivery and enunciation is amazing
My favorite Dio performance is his cover of mistreated (live in Munich). He put so much emotion into that performance it made you feel like he was your own heart singing to you.
My favorite song that RJD sings is definitely Sign of the Southern Cross from when he was in Black Sabbath. It is so magnificent, yet so few reactors EVER react to it.
one of my favorites.....
Dio had an remarkable ability to mix impeccable technique with a strong blues influence. Very few people have combined the two so perfectly. I've seen him referred to as the Freddie Mercury of heavy metal and it's absolutely fitting.
Can I say that I find this reductive? Why to define a singer like him I have to compare to someone else? This is Ronnie James Dio stop. He doesn't need anything else.
@@grigiacomo4860 People always want to compare others with others.
And for people who know rock god Freddy, it's good to have a reference to know what to expect when someone suggest them to listen to Ronnie. And I don't think either would have minded being compared to the other.
@@1972LittleC surely they don't mind! and if you want to know what to expect if you don't know who Dio is, it's a good comparison. But if you want to do a good comparison for people, you can say Freddie is like the Primavera of Botticelli and Ronnie is like Tondo Doni of Michelangelo. Two masterpiece but the first everyone know, the second not everyone unfortunately. If you compare two things that are in the same category (music, paint,..) you always risk to implicitly say one is better then the other. Dio is not the Freddie Mercury of heavy metal, Dio is technically and beautiful to listen like Freddie. The rest it's only speech of musical genre popularity, or personal taste.
@@grigiacomo4860 They're very different singers so it's less a comparison than it is a way if showing respect. Freddie is widely considered to be the single greatest vocalist in the history of rock and roll. All the 'comparison' is saying is that Dio is on that same level when it comes to heavy metal.
@@johnhmaloney @Charles De Wit I understand very well what are you saying. I apologize for being a bit annoying 😁. Probably it's just because where I live metal is always see like a secondary genre and I always take it personally🤘🤘🔥🔥 love from Italy and may the music live forever
"Children of the Sea" is my fav...but i love them all!
My favorite is "The Mob Rules" from his second album with Black Sabbath, "Mob Rules" (1981). When they performed under the name Heaven & Hell at the Radio City Music Hall in 2007, he hit an impressive A5.😲
My fav's Dio song is Rainbow Eyes,so beautiful. It's nice to see you enjoying Dio's songs Beth, the more you listen to it, the more you like it believe-me haha.
outstanding and beautiful ballad. She would love this song.
Stargazer is incredible. Amazing vocals.
I was at this show. They killed it great concert . The Spectrum was a awesome place to see a concert in. One of the last shows to play there was the Heaven and Hell show to support the Black Sabbath The Dio Years CD .
I had big honour to to see RJD 4 times live! 👊👍🤘🔥
RIP Master Dio. 🌹🙏🌹
Dio with the band Rainbow... the song Stargazer live is epic.
Rainbow in the Dark is such a fun song to play. One of the first songs I learned to play on bass. This whole concert is amazing.
So many great songs in the Dio catalog to choose from. Agree with many other here regarding Stargazer. All the Fools Sailed Away is another favorite that often goes overlooked. Just can’t go wrong with RJD. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Dio estudio, en su infancia y parte de su adolescencia, trompeta, era un buen trompetista, y según contaba, esto lo ayudo a crear su técnica vocal única, y a controlar su respiración. Un genio irrepetible!!!!
Awesome...it's difficult to put into words just how amazing Ronnie Dio's talent is! whether it's natural ability, learned talent, or a merging of both, he is just the ultimate showman! He doesn't just sing the songs, he performs the songs...to perfection! My favourite male vocalist, by far...Thank you for another wonderful insight in this "vocal God" as you so succinctly put it...never a truer word was spoken! :)
I absolutely love Stargazer, but actually, I'm a huge fan of the song Sitting in a Dream from the Butterfly Ball too. It's a side of Dio we don't hear so often in his later work, but really nice!
Rainbow Eyes is another similar one
I was right up against the barrier when they came to our city on this tour. They were amazing musically, and then the stage was incredible.
I was at this show, and every time they came around. DIO never disappointed.
Thank you for your wonderful reaction! Had the luck to see him live back in the 80s . Incredible performances!
Thank you Sven!
The power and charisma that came from this small body was unbelievable
So many wonderful Dio songs, to be sure, but my favorites remain Man on a Silver Mountain during his time with Rainbow and The Last in Line.
Looking at him you would not expect him to be such a giant singer. He is on "11" from start to finish.
My favorite Dio song is ''rainbow eyes''
Thanks for paying respects to the Master of Male vocalist Sir Ronnie "He was a natural singer ,so solid !!!owns the stage !he gave so much love
I'm a big fan of Man on the Silver Mountain when he sang with Rainbow
DIO rules,Basta 🖤🔥🖤
Every song he Sung is killers.
But Rainbow Eyes and
Catch the Rainbow show DIO from the other side.
The Rainbow, Sabbath time
and the 3 first DIO albums is EPIC
since you asked; my initiation to Dio was in the early 90's when a friend lent me the ELF album, Hoochie Koochie Lady grabbed my throat! Dio's voice and the incredible piano[keyboards] of Mickey Lee Soule are a fantastic experience.
Great video as always, straight through the heart is my favorite by Dio :)
I saw Dio in Scotland when he was in Rainbow. What a voice.
Been a subscriber since your early days. Your reactions have been a soundtrack to my life. Thank you for being you.
I appreciate that! Thank you Sean!
my favorite dio song? Oh, thats a hard question! I love all song. ALL 💗 his voice makes every song great.
the most humble person I've ever met an his music will live forever
Every time you do Dio I have to watch it several times in a row. I really enjoy your analysis and your obvious Fandom as well😉 Beth and Dio just go great together! 🤘🤘🤘
All Dio songs are excellent, but my favorite is probably Holy Diver or The Last in Line
I agree! Both excellent songs
Great reaction Beth! I always love a good Dio reaction. This is also my favorite Dio song!
I saw him in concert twice, and he was amazing. Beth - I truly wish you could have seen him in concert, you seem like you would totally get him and LOVE it like I did.
Great reactions Beth ☺️.. I always remember seeing and listening to Dio in a small venue in Vegas back in 97'..🤘
A lifetime of wisdom in every lyric, strung together its nearly overwhelming.
The "Voice", so magical. Those sounds when singing, so Beautiful! Thanks, Beth for your SONG!
Saw Dio 3 times. What an honor and privilege. One of the best for sure, a voice like NO other. Memories I will relish forever. 🤘🤘
He's like the Freddie Mercury of metal singers. Great voice, great stage presence, great storyteller.
Love you Beth. Dio IS a vocal god. I live in Syracuse- 30 miles from his Cortland upbringing. As a musically diverse individual- I gravitate to singers that can move me vocally but most importantly- perform with passion. Our local, recently deceased hero Benny Mardones was one- see his LIVE performances not the corny Video for Into the Night which hit the top 20 2 times! Also Barry Manilow live- incredible talent that brings the listener to tears when they wish.
Keep up the great diverse reactions- wonderful 💪❤
Its good poetry and very real lyrics where many people actually are in the 'dark' at times, in their life. He himself was left alone as I learnt when he wrote this song. Great voice and the instruments are in unison. Wonderful!
Dio is THE best! So happy I was able to see him LIVE in the 80s! 💜🤘🏻💜
What he has always sounded to me is a well trained Opera singer that got drunk one night and went to karaoke , just to let it loose . And then left the phantom and became DIO 😳
I had heard recently that Ronnie had no training which is incredible and his dad made him practice the trumpet for hours what a talent he was he's one of my favorite rock and metal singers I miss him a lot I regret that I never got to see him live in concert
It’s still shocking how good he was at singing. One of the vocalists who could do so many different genre’s.
And this song is not easy to sing, no matter how much he makes it seem like it is; I remember when I heard Bruce and Ronnie performing this song in 2000 in Belgium and it happened practically at the end of Dio's show, save my mistake Dio had a flu that day but he remained well controlled, with the same power and with the same naturalness but Bruce Dickinson, oddly enough, had certain difficulties with the percussion of the performance, he was raising his larynx quite high and he was clearly putting some subglottic pressure on the treble and sounding shrill, and I was quite surprised and realized that this song is difficult to play singing in general and just like many of Ronnie's songs but they both Bruce and Dio were fantastics in this performance.
When Ronnie says lookout , you better check your surroundings. This is also my favorite.
Yes, Dio is vocal God!🤘
Great reaction, Miss! Thank you! My favorite Dio song!
Thank you too!
Rainbow in the dark my fav but NEVER ceases to Amaze, even the lyrical Temple of the King surprises many..Same singer? they say.He can do it all.
Just listen to that studio recording when they recorded the Kickapoo for the Tenacious D movie. It's mind blowing!
I had the good fortune to see Dio in a small club outside of Seattle back in 2000 on his Magica tour, before he started blowing back up again. There couldn't have been more than 60 people there. It was incredible. Right up close, loud as hell, not a single note out of place. I even traded the horns with him at one point. Easily my most favorite show I've ever been to.
As a guitarist, it was exciting to see Craig Goldie, and I believe it was Simon Wright on drums (who I believe is playing here?), just a monster.
I saw him at a smaller venue in 2000 and they opened with Sunset Superman. At the moment when Ronnie emerged onstage and belted that opening line "The night has a thousand eyes!!!" the crowd in that joint erupted like a volcano. 🌋
Not just a talent, a pioneer. Beth, more please!
Hi Beth. This is also one of my favorite Dio songs. Another one I think you would enjoy is Man on the Silver Mountain. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you Gary!
Favourite song with Dio would be the studio Version of 'Heaven and Hell' with Black Sabbath. Rainbow in the dark is my second fave tho! :)
All the fools sailed away is great the last in line is amazing there are so many great songs by him!
My favorite Dio song is “Gates of Babylon” with Rainbow.
Also Mob Rules with Black Sabbath.
A hidden gem is I on the 1994 dehumanizer album.
Seen this tour, amazing. Guitarist, Vivian Campbell was 22 or 23 at the time.
As for a favorite Dio song, like asking if I have a favorite son.
It is either Don't Talk to Strangers or Lost in the Middle.
Just mind-blowing ⚡🔥💯
I used to go to a weird bar in college where 6 days out of the week it was all nu metal but for some reason on Tuesday’s they played a whole lot of Dio
That voice , out of such a small guy .Incredible.
You are spot on. Dio is the best vocalist ever. And Vivian Cambell is one of the best guitarists ever, along with Blackmore and Iomi. Dio was never short on guitarist.
I saw this concert tour when it eventually arrived in Australia. Unfortunately Vivian Campbell had left the band over financial conditions, and Craig Goldie
was playing lead guitar. I eventually got to see Vivian Campbell live when he was touring with Def Leppard. Both Vivian and Gary Moore were doing such
great things at the time: Vivian with Dio, and Gary Moore with albums like Corridors of Power and Victims of the Future. Never got to see Gary though.
Growing up in awe of Dio's vocal talent, I, like many like-minded others, were labelled 'Head Bangers' and were marginalized because of the music we loved.
It is so refreshing, and validating, seeing people like yourself acknowledging the talent of Dio, an entertainer that has been a hero to so many 'Head Bangers'.
'Don't Talk to Strangers' from this concert is a great example of Dio's masterful delivery, and Vivian Campbell's nitro-charged soloing.
I saw him in 1984 on the Sacred Heart tour, god he was awesome.
My favorite is "Mob Rules". Especially after a great vocal coach helped me learn it! Thanks Beth!
Dio just hits different
Long live the King!!
thanx. One of the true talents that never got the worlds full attention. Thanx for giving him/the band time. R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio
Your face in this video is how my soul feels when I hear this song. ❤
Phenomenal singer hands down, a one of a kind. V Campbell's guitar playing was inch perfect for Ronnies voice..🤘🤘🤘
You should check out the song The last in line from the same concert that this video was from very awesome version and once again you can hear the power of his voice
Simplesmente o melhor vocal do Rock de todos os tempos!!!
So thankful to have seen him with Sabbath and as a solo act .Every show was spectacular
Rainbow in the Dark has always been my favorite but I could listen to anything he performs on and be happy.
I was lucky enough to see him live twice, once with Dio, his band and once with black sabath, goosebumps from start to end! He was such a force of nature!
RONNIE JAMES DIO was the epitome of heavy metal front men. Beginning with ELF, THEN RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, DIO, AND FINALLY, HEAVEN HELL, right before his passing in 2010. He will always be one of the GREATEST!
To me Dio truly belongs in the Pantheon of singers and showman. You can't take your eyes off him, your ears are tuned in and you get this sense of witnessing a deity.
It's kinda like watching Messi in football or Marco Pierre White in gastronomy. They're just lightyears ahead of everyone in their world. Grandmasters of their art.
*bows and hands down*
For many many years when this songs comes around my friend and I share it. We used to try to one up a rainbow in the dark. Lighting when it snows, typhoon in a cave etc.....those make as much sense as a rainbow in the dark.
crying here! happiness!
I was fortunate enough to see him live and yes, he was this good live EVERY time he took the stage.
Thanks for this neat video!
Thank you for watching!
Stargazer is one of many favourites of mine, but I have always had a soft spot for this song and One night in the City.
Favorite Dio song..... Probably "Stand up and shout".. Or "we rock"... "Lock up the wolfs" is good too.... Soooo many favorites...
