    Super helpful. I've been looking into bouncing/exporting and delivering stems for a few days now. I just didn't get it until I saw your video. Thank you!

    Thanks for this! I really appreciate the in-depth video and how organized you are! I just switched to Ableton from FL after like 5+ years in that DAW and I'm trying to simultaneously improve my organization and professionalism now that I'm in the new DAW... Sidenote: Ableton is amazing and I look forward to checking out some of your other tutorials.

    Very insightful! I'v got a quick question: what if the mixer doesn't have the same plug-ins I used to make my midi tracks or the same one-shots I used to create the drums? Will my midi keys and drums play in their daw?

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  Месяц назад

      If you export them as audio files yes! But if you send midi files they would definitely need the same plugins or samples

    Thanks for the tutorial, really helpful and detailed!! I was wondering how much compression and EQing you usually apply before sending to the mixer, do you send detailed notes along with the stems? If yes, would love to have your lights on that too!
    Anyway, great ressource here, I'll definitely recommend it...

    • @LucasMessore

      Thank you! It depends honestly, it's usually good to send a demo mix to the mixer and get their opinion on whether or not to bake in your eq and compression. Some people might prefer to get everything raw, others may ask for the stems to be printed so it sounds exactly like the demo. Also depends on the state of your demo mix and how much processing is applied. Another option is to just bounce two folders, one with everything baked in and a second folder that just has raw stems.The mixer can just choose what to use. Let me know if that helps!

      @@LucasMessore Amazing response time, thanks man! Yeah, that's kinda what I thought, it depends. I'm just bouncing stems rn and only left a little EQ and compression in so that there's room to work. I also decided to provide some notes to make sure it's fine... Anyway, followed your steps for naming and organising, great tips!!

    I got told to freeze tracks with plugins that are not on Ableton. I am also struggling to find the stems, using windows 11

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  Год назад +2

      Freezing is a very useful tool. And also, I suggest having a bounces folder so you don't have problems finding them.

    When bouncing the individual stems/ groups are they running through the master? Been having an issue, exporting stems, and put them in a new project and noticing everything is kind of clashing into each other. I have a limiter on the original project that the stems was exported from some confused why the stems are pushing the master

    • @LucasMessore

      They are not unless you check that setting!

    How do you send multitrack to a console for virtual sound check?
    When I did it it sent as a left and right mix. I need to get the separate instruments for virtual sound check.

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi! You just have to assign the outputs of those instrument tracks to whichever outputs are connected from your interface to the console

  • @markmendozavano

    Also, people would appreciate it if the track names aren' t too long. Like instead of
    "BandX - Drums - Overhead Left_134bpm", just label it
    "OH_L" , same as "KK", "snr_T", "snr_B" "tm_01" "tm_03", "RM"
    For drums it's easy. But for certain tracks you kind of want to balance convenience with cryptic.
    "JBUV" (Joey's backup vocals). I don't know who Joey is. Just label it "BUV" or "Vx_BU".
    Hope this helps.

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  6 месяцев назад

      Depends on who you ask, but I generally agree. If it looked like this:
      Lead Vocals - Verse
      Guitar - Rhythm
      Drums - OH L
      That way they know 1) the instrument 2) the section/part/track you should be in good shape!

    Thx Lucas! If I do this way, will the stems export with the master/main channel effects/plugins affecting these stems?

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  2 месяца назад +1

      There's an option for that yes in the export dialog!

    • @LucasMessore

      I definitely use bus processing, and it will be printed down! It just depends if the bus processing sounds good and you want to commit to it go for it.

    Hello,
    great tuto,
    I have a problem creating stems, maybe you can help me ?
    I give you a simple exemple :
    if i create, let's say :
    A Kick Stem
    A snare stem
    A bass stem
    and I have side chain compressor in between those groupe (the snare control the kick, the kick control the bass...)
    When i do a Export selected track, those sidechains do not work,...
    It's very problematic...
    Can you help me on this ?
    Thanks !

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  11 месяцев назад

      Hi can you try doing this: make sure you have the sidechain compression on all three individual tracks (no groups involved). Then hit command R, click all individual tracks. See if the sidechain prints down that way. That usually works for me. :)

    Hi! I have a question, if I have groups on my project and I want to export the stems but only for the individual instruments and not the master and all that stuff what I need to do? I mean the answer might be just deleted the groups and then export but is there any other easy way to do it?

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  7 месяцев назад

      Hey not that I know of. I usually save as first. Delete groups & move any important effects over to the channels. Then bounce selected tracks or all individual.

    What's the point of all individual tracks? Stems more like about groups of instruments

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  Год назад +4

      When you do all individual tracks you get all the individual stems AND the groups, it's awesome. Sometimes I go in and delete whatever I don't need after.

  • @linzenmeyer

    You didn't include your sends and master chain fx?
    I suppose someone like you is recording from real world instruments ... perhaps through fx pedals that are automatically being recorded.

    • @LucasMessore
      @LucasMessore  Год назад +1

      I usually don't use that button because it bakes in the return effects to your stems. I'd rather have them seperated.
