For songwriting, Ableton. For mixing/mastering, S1. For scoring/videoediting, Cubase. Different beasts.

Can you build some effects only patches for real amp fx loop?

It seems I should probably take a closer look at Ableton for songwriting. The arranger in S1 still isn't fully developed and get in the way of creativity.

I have a Suhr modern 7, and a prestige 7 string AZ. You made the best possible decision looking for a cheaper alternative. The neck feel is literally identical to my Suhr. I just hate how boring Ibanez does their 7 string AZ’

Just wanted to clarify that the scope of this video is to investigate some of the best Drum Machine Plugins for Producers that already have a collection of drum one-shot samples that they want to load up in Pro Tools. Seems like there is a bit of confusion - this is not for Drum Synthesizers nor traditional samplers. Also since posting, Algonaut Atlast has finally released and AAX version that should be included in in this list! Another plugin that I missed is called Triaz, highly recommend that one. Thanks so much!

I think Studio One 7 is miles ahead of Ableton 12. S7 is generally the best all round DAW.

Still on Cubase 8.5, terrified i'll break it if i upgrade... I have warning messages about an expired fingerprint when i start up, and i havent been able to sort out soft e-licenser properly for years. 🙈 I am also scared of upgrading windows in case it disturbs the delicate eco-system 😅 Should i just upgrade everything and if cubase fails, uninstall and reinstall? Is there any chance it won't be able to open my old files? 🙈

why can't I drag presets into ableton?

sounds to me like ableton is great for , live performances, Djing, making beats and studio one is great for recording and mixing and mastering.

Thanks a ton for this video as it set the initial spark for me to look more into Studio One, as after getting frustrated how Ableton handled multiple outputs with some VSTs I was looking into something that lets me to have better workflow with 3rd party plugins. You are being way too modest though, I think Studio One is great even for electronic musicians. I keep finding workflow improving feature one after another, especially with Multiout instruments as it allows you to take full advantage of just the amount of outputs and midi tracks you need without unnecessary clutter. I'm so relieved now that I feel whoever designed this DAW is pretty close to a genius. And I still keep finding one feature after another that works the way I would expect it to work. So it seems to me I've finally found a tool that lets me work just the way I want. I'm still happy to own Ableton and have learned a lot with it, and it can do so much especially when using their stock devices, so will keep it for projects that are more focused around it, but I feel Studio One is steadily becoming my go to going forward. Nothing is perfect though and it still has some limitations too, mainly for modulation devices, you don't have something like Shaper device for example, just a basic LFO, step / gate modulation device called xtrem, some arp tool, and thats pretty much it, but TBH so many plugins can do modulation at so many levels on their own these days that it is hardly a big issue for me at least. Another plus for me, this supports ARA too so finally can use plugins like RX, Melodyne or Synth-V without compromises. So much more I could write, so I suggest anyone that is interested to check out some of the videos they have on their site, its a good way to learn more about it.

As a DJ/Producer flexibility is key and for me; Ableton-Live💪'That's The Ticket". On the other hand if I were a Film Score Composer, without a doubt my choice of DAW would be; Cubase-Pro💪. Closing out the set, the industry standard for top Mixing/Recording engineers undoubtedly is; Pro-Tools💪. It shouldn't be about which one of the (3) is better, but rather about "LOGICALLY🤔" choosing what's best for your needs, as they all serve a purpose✌.

Firstly, thanks for making this video! I'm a Logic native so this has some great advice. The one thing holding me back from making the full switch is the lack of solo safe. In Logic, I would create an external output for headphones that I can solo safe, so I can exclusively listen to a channel while tracking and it won't affect the headphone mix. Is there at all an option to do this in Ableton?

I am so glad that Cubase entry-level software was included with my Yamaha mixer. I was not familiar with the name and, after using it for composing and producing, I am now at Cubase Pro 14 and loving it. Your evaluation about an eternal amount of customization is spot on but, after getting it exactly how I want it, the workflow speed is amazing. Patience pays off in the long run. Great un-biased video!

Nice comparison! Quick and to the point. I give the nod to the Les Paul. The 85/15 pickups are interesting. I have a CE 24 with them and some days I love them, some days I hate them. But then my SG with the 60s burstbuckers always sound amazing to me. PRS is hands down the best feeling guitar ive ever played though.

I'm not sure if you're ignorant or just biased, but "out of any DAWs" it's the Reaper followed by FL Studio that open the fastest. Also, Cubase had a huge upgrade to v14, and Bitwig - with 5.3 out recently - is a DAW that bests Live at most things. Lastly, it's very well known that Live is one of the most unstable, unreliable and least performant DAWs with VSTs (20% of tutorials has "report crash" panel at one or multiple times), whereas Bitwig or Reaper sandbox the plugins so if they crash, the project is still running and only the faulty plugin needs to be reloaded.

these dumbass warp modes never work, anyway, an easier way is just to count how many bars your loop is. so say u have a 1 bar loop, drag it in your track. if its not exactly 1 bar, timestretch it so it is exactly 1 bar. and then your done, without having to use silly ableton bullshit warp modes.
