List of historical complaints with gundie’s video.
Claiming fetishists have taken over comics when the medium’s whole history is full of that kind of thing. Wonder Woman was created by a guy who loved bondage.
Per the joker getting pregnant thing:
    1. They’re just mad comics are weird.
    2. They’re confused why Joker is nonchalant about the whole thing and not freaking out. Like, he’s the joker. They’re expecting him to react like a normal person. Why?
    3. She complains that this is somehow super vulgar and how could comics ever do this. Again, these people are clearly not real comic fans. They’ve never read one. Infinitely worse stuff was going on in comics in the 80s. This guy is championing manga when infinitely more messed up stuff has happened in manga since the 70s.
    4. Just pearl-clutching while insisting they’re not.
Complaining that an X-men story was updated to include certain minorities shows a complete ignorance of the series history as an allegory for civil rights.
Saying that the “wokes” were mad that Snowflake and Safe Space weren’t successful when they were universally panned.
Complaining about the idea of superheroes with disabilities when the 60s gave us two superhero team leaders in wheelchairs. On top of the numerous other heroes with disabilities or who are allegories for disability.

      @nackskott12 Год назад +14

All that doesn't even really matter because ItsAGundam is lying when he says comics have been overtaken by fetishists compared to anime and manga - because anime and manga has had prominent kink-centric works since at least the 70s, and the kinks presented in anime and manga can be way more extreme. Urotukidoji and Wicked City alone are far more graphic (and morally concerning) than anything I've seen in Western comics by a long shot. Considering he's such a weeb he must be aware of plenty of things like Eromanga Sensei, Kiss X Sis, Nekopara, Fate/Stay Night and all the other erotic visual novels which delve pretty deep into some degen shit lmao. So much so that it's illegal to sell or depict in some countries.
So either he's lying about the presence of fetishism in anime and manga, or he considers the amount of incest-bait, tentacle stuff and real suspicious “100yo vampire girl” content normal and non-fetishistic.

I will admit that I get tired of woke and pandering stuff when they're just being 'woke' to get some brownie points and money or to get people mad for more publicity. Just changing genders and orientations of a character or making the lead character not a straight white man isn't the be all and end all, but sadly that's how a lot of grifters think progressive media is. A lot of women characters are still written so badly with little effort because they think 'two women having a conversation that doesn't revolve around another man' is all it needed. But I'm more on the "Why are you half-assing it?"
Like with DC comics, you cowards, go all out and make the big blue and Bat bisexual and a couple, why not? If people are gonna be mad either way, let them be mad about the titular characters. Or have at least one LGBTQ supes and batclan coupling, instead of coming up new civilian love interests?
Or actually promote shows with good representation like the 'Stange world' instead of letting it sink, for some reasons.
I feel the media, itself, is using the woke (when it's really not) as excuse to get away with bad writings and then hype those up so both sides will talk about it - complaining, defending - leading to more visibility, hate watching, thus profits.
But if Gundam thinks Japanese manga/anime aren't woke, he is so wrong. I guess the difference is that there is not much of 'in your face' like recent controversial western media, but more of a subtle hidden messages - and from what I've learnt the rights seem to not get subtlety or undertones. Or they just sometime totally miss the point.

We primarily remember the good ones because they stick with us and stand the test of time. He refuses to go out of his comfort zone, research new titles, and just dig through the graphic novel/comic section of his local bookstore to find something cool that he’s never even heard of before. What guys like ItsAGundam completely ignore is most Manga and Anime have stories that end, it’s what allows the arcs to be meaningful. Comics generally go on until they’re unprofitable, which is why the characters stay stagnant and the continuity is such a mess. If you notice, Indy comics and Elseworld stories tend to be beloved because they’re finite. 37:25 "greek mythology has never changed". I actually studied Classical Philology and History and even wrote a long paper on a greek goddess. My man, this take is so hilariously dogshit for anyone who has spend a day with the actual greek and roman sources (translations are good enough for that). I get corn daddys popculture references, but lets stick to the ancient greece and rome: The mythology was in CONSTANT change. From one city to another you see different aspects of the same god emphasized and therefore different stories told about the same god. you see different gods merged into one. you see stories once told about one god get adapted for another god. the longer the character hercules was around, the more stories were attributed him which before were tied to other characters. every literature author we have from antiquity who wrote about mythology wasnt concerned about digging up a "true core" or whatever, but had its own free interpretations of the characters with their own artistic approach. its very much comparable to the diverse corpus of stories we have for comic heroes like Superman or Spidey who are around for some decades. just imagine Superman stories retold not only for decades but for 500 years. ancient mythology isnt like the bible where we have a fixed set of books at one point in time and from then on everyone is concerned with sticking to the word and just trying to understand the OG text correctly. nope. everything was in constant fluidity in greece and rome. its also interesting to read authors whose focus is on writing history or geography, when they write about foreign cultures at the edges / outside of the greco-roman world. they take in their new gods or more often they just equate a foreign god with one of their own gods. "oh, these germanic tribes worship Odin? Well, sounds like our Zeus. They call him differently, and emphasize other aspects, but there are some similarities to Zeus. Lets hear what stories they tell about our god Zeus!"
I guess with my ramblings I just wanted to demonstrate on an example how ridiculously clueless reactionaries always are when they reference history, other cutlures, science and every other subject we can study.

Honestly, if there's one thing that bothers me, it's the lack of creativity, and how having an agenda (on either side) always distracts from considering different or unusual, often radical ideas. If we want to explore gender-non-conformity with Poison Ivy, for instance, a great idea would be to have it revealed that she is physically both sexes at once because, you know, flowers. From there, you could explore how she experiences, interprets, and expresses gender. Maybe when she was born like this she had an ugly surgery forced upon her, and only her powers allowed her to grow back what was lost. Maybe circumcision could be mentioned at some point and she could make a remark like, "It's no less barbaric just because you only cut off part of it," and suddenly everything makes sense. All this seems too radical for either side of the mainstream, though.
I had a similar response to the way they discarded the character of Gren in the Cowboy Bebop life action production. The original character provides a way for people to empathize with gender dysphoria, but instead of having the grace or nuance to address such issues, they just decided to replace the original character with someone who was completely comfortable with their gender situation. As a Third Gender person myself, that's not the kind of representation I want. I don't want to sacrifice someone else's representation (as in the representation of people who suffer deeply from gender dysphoria, which is something that only mildly affects me) and instead have a vague and generic "non-binary icon"; I don't see the need to sacrifice one for the other.
They even mentioned the "Gay Iceman" situation, and I remember that as being another huge missed opportunity. They could have instead really done something interesting by having the guy who is traditionally heavily interested in women suddenly discover an attraction to someone who isn't a woman, and start slowly exploring his sexuality. It would have been a pretty easy opportunity to have some bisexual representation in a way that mirrors something that naturally happens to a lot of people. Instead, I'm pretty sure they just wanted to go for some kind of sensationalism by having a character like that suddenly being gay. Imagine if, instead of revealing that Logan, Jean, and Scott dabbled in polyamory, they just one day decided that Logan and Scott both never loved Jean and just used her to deflect their own exclusive feelings for one another.
That's the most I have rambled in a long time. In truth, it bothers me that I have all these ideas and no platform for expressing them, meanwhile people like that (in the video) end up getting paid tons of money to miss every opportunity to make a difference and ultimately write everything into a corner. If anyone read all of this, thanks, and if you have any writing opportunities for me, please don't hesitate to offer. ;p

For example, themes of the individuality and embracing that you are different may not be revolutionary to a Western audience but are not always embraced in Eastern cultures that prize collectivism. Many of the the anime cited are based on older mangas that focused on these themes and were counter to other mainstream ideals pushed in Japanese society. Like our own network media often sanitizes their source material, anime often does the same towards manga. That is my experience at least.

Greek mythology has been in constant flux in various forms of media recently and for many years before this. Not to mention that Greek mythology in it's own time was constantly changing and evolving the way our culture does now. And even before many things from Greek mythology were adapted and change from previous cultures so mesopotamia. Greek mythology is one of the worst examples he could have picked for that XD Orators that would tell the stories of Greek mythology did not tell it the exact same way everytime, many times it was adapted to fit various perspectives and interpretations of the orators or the audience. If anyone thinks Greek mythology was a simple, unchanging group of stories, they haven't the slightest idea how Greek mythology came about. Greek mythology is only a singular solid mythology today, because the followers of the various cults to Greek gods are long dead and we have pieced together and sanitized their stories to fit modern interpretations.

But it wasn't just because it had the "right" kind of Strong Female Character (and it had a *boatload* of strong women) - it was a neat sword-swinging monster-hunting adventure story!
(Oh, and regarding manga/anime as having little to no fetish content, if you think there wasn't at least a little bit of an undercurrent of fetish in Claymore, idk, maybe you just don't comprehend the appeal of beautiful, stoic, superstrong women)

    • @KireiC

Also it's hard for Claymore to portray men as incompetent - there's barely any men in the story aside from Rocky, the audience surrogate character. In-universe, men don't make good Claymores - they basically all turn into full monsters, instead of monster-strong humans like women do (even women are at risk of going full monster, though, they're just statistically less likely to). So, no male Claymores, and no human men are a match for the all-female Claymores in terms of fighting ability. Rocky tags along because we need an audience surrogate, and he's also kind of the heart among a cast of superhumans. Ask another chud and they might say the fact that Rocky never becomes a super soldier to match Clare or something means he IS emasculated. But Rocky's fine. It is astounding to me that someone could get so ridiculously angry over such a trivial thing. Hey buddy, if I don't like the songs the radio are playing, I change the station, if theres no good station, I hook my phone up and play my own music, 8 tracks for you boomer minded people. I'm not going to make a bunch of RUclips videos complain that Anthony Kiedes is an annoying singer and demanding he stop singing, lifes too short, I'll just put on something I like. It sounds to me like what you hate is the free market.

Mentions the Children of the Atom comics and that it focuses on teen heroes who’s powers are just copied from established mutant characters. doesn’t mention that the premise is that the teens are humans and stan mutants and want to be mutants, so when they found alien tech that they can use for powers they try to be their favorite X-Men

Omg he is completely imaging the plot of children of the atom, its about kids who arent murants that get powers and model themselves after the civil rights heroes they look up to aka the xmen. The xmen were intended as an way to discuss civil rights, first race and then evolving to a gay survival and civil rights story.

Comics were always pretty transgressive/progressive. I think the problem, besides the grift and being a little piss baby about stuff that he can just ignore, is that he truly can't relate and isn't interested in trying. I'm not trying to gatekeep and say that old school nerds weren't obnoxious too, but I don't know. It just never felt this relentless and hateful when I was younger. It's just this kind of guy doesn't even know what they're talking about. Also!!!! Most of the MCU films do follow the basic structure of the hero's journey, so I'm not sure what he's on about.
Okay, but...anime/manga can be just as wild when it comes to gender, sexuality, and uh, amorality? Although I suppose it's slightly easier to box yourself in due to there being a much wider range of genres (like, Western comics do have a wide range too, don't get me wrong, but I'm saying they're not as narrowly focused). Honestly though, I wouldn't put that much faith in him being that self aware. Personally I think it's very telling that he spoke very little about the comics in general, of either iteration. It was mostly about the movies or the TV or anime, which I think are very different animals. You can really like a comic but hate it's onscreen adaptions. I really have to wonder if this guy picked up any old comic one day, expecting it to be like the movies.
Anyway, I agree, She-Hulk was fun. I went into it with middling expectations, and was really quite charmed. Honestly I hope they do more stuff like that.

I love how the guy is talking about Demon Slayers like if it was some masterpiece of story telling. I know the series is mega popular but its story and characters are absolutly basic anime tropes. The only really good thing the show has running for it are the good animations and fight scenes. It is really such a bad series to take as excaple for good story and characters when there are so many anime out there that really have that stuff in it.

10:14 my trans nonbinary ass thinks this is bad ass 😂 it makes you cringe but it’s really encouraging to me and my community 🤷 btw if the “groan” comment is coming from this being “hammy” you gotta understand that queer ppl like us are used to being queer baited so we kind need authors to be overt about it (the bat has trans colors on it which is a bit on the nose I’ll admit)…
it’s exciting for us to see that we exist in the DC universe… idk what to tell you, like… this really isn’t even a corny line-as you mentioned, we have definitely seen way worse-this is obviously a comment on how unsafe trans women feel in ANY city let alone one as notoriously dangerous as Gotham.
With all due respect, I don’t think cis people should be the judge of what’s corny or too on the nose when talking about trans characters. Even allies like yourself seem to think our very existence is ridiculous or cringe. Think about it. How is it that our EXISTENCE is so unserious that a throwaway line like “of course I have a weapon, I’m a trans woman” makes you “groan”? To be fair, I feel like this guy would say the same if the line was “I’m a woman”. So I guess at least cis men disrespect all women equally.
