@@jdmmike7225 in short, after 80s breaking of Yugoslavia started and standard of living started to decay, some people started forming groups by themselves. Because we were always a mix of different nations, believes and religions, some "groups" started to think they have a right to claim some regions for themselves. So from 80s to 90s tension raised. Some western powers like US and other saw an opportunity to gain benefit of this, so they secretly pushed their agenda by fueling rebellion (bribery, ideas of "better life", regions etc). But because Serbs were in a big percent in those regions that are nowdays Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo some way needed to be found to break down the people spirit and togetherness and let them fight and separate themselves, further fueling of nationalism and separatism sparked, and because most military and police were in Serbia swift action have been taken. But unfortunately, those separatist have help by Germany, US and other nations so even if action against them would be fast and successful, casualties were unavoidable, so we got civil war from 90s to 2000. So thats how western powers meddle in other states politics and lives so we got consequences (like cinema, food or others) by putting sanctions on some nation.
