I think the knobs would look better in the middle of the doors. I think the bases are too big, it hangs off a bit! But love this update, cant wait to see it finished.
I actually like them oversized, but they'd look good without the backplates. I'm personally not a fan of cabinet hardware installed in the middle of the door.
I would have omitted the back plates on the doors. They just don’t fit properly. I’m surprised that they were ok for her because she is such a perfectionist. Which I love. Lol
Thank you for advising how this product would work with a chip brush! I was wondering whether the stiffness of a cheap brush would be an advantage with this product in that it would create more defined streaks - or whether it was complete coverage one was after.
@@christopherdewaard6932 it was a dresser. It has held up to a teen for two years but not to the extent a kitchen would need to. I have also seen people using an enamel cabinet paint in beige then using gel stain over it to achieve the same look.
Hi MaCenna! The vanity turned out amazing! Can't wait to see the full bathroom makeover! I totally geeked out over your hardware selection! I work as a designer that focuses strictly on older homes (circa 1890s - 1940s) and those appear to be from the Arts & Crafts era (best guess would be early 1900s to mid-1910s). Very reminiscent of what you would have seen in manor houses during that time frame.
indeed, that's about where i put them, too (not a designer, but i used to spent my summers restoring an old house and so i sometimes randomly know these kind of things LOL)
Arts and Crafts generally had much simpler hardware. Look at The Craftsman by Stickley for examples in the American style or Peter Waals, Gimson or the Barnsley Brothers in the English Arts and Crafts tradition. I think decorative hardware like this is more typical of neo Georgian or neo classical styles.
Yes, this style dating has had me a little concerned. For a slightly more modern take (1920s) look at the work of Gordon Russell whose furniture designs echoed Waals et al and who used metal door furniture which was often smooth in line and feel.
I’m not sure you even need the back plates, they would look great without them. The finish on the cabinets looks fantastic, I can’t wait to see how the rest of the bathroom turns out. :) ❤
I agree, I think the back plates are a bit too much, but it's all a matter of taste. I love that faucet - can't wait to see it installed. Great job on the Retique It.
Crazy how well the retique it worked! It looks really good also on the beams! :) The hardware you found is really beautiful and suits the cabinet well, but the backplates are a little big for my taste. It works on the drawerfronts but it is wider than the trim on the doors which makes them look out of place - but as long as you're happy with how it looks, it's great :) Can't wait to see the next and final episode! :)
This is actually a really good idea for ppl who prefer wood furniture but don't want the hassle of having to strip every single cabinet before staining it esp if u don't know what kind of wood is underneath something. Thanks for sharing a great resource!
Looks so freakin good!!! Just a thought, but wondered if the window would look good painted the same wood color? Beautiful bathroom :) can’t wait to see part 3!
If you hadn't said that you were doing a faux wood treatment on those cabinets, I would have sworn you had replaced them. That stain color does so much to warm the space, and paired with the brass hardware? Love! It's amazing how you can make just a few changes to a room and create a whole new vibe. Can't wait to see the new fixtures installed! ❤

I love how thorough you are MaCenna & how professional the final results always look on your projects.I’m a knitter & it really matters to me that the sweaters I knit for my granddaughter look professional. What I’ve learned from you is that for most jobs, it’s not that it takes hiring a professional for the job to end up with professional looking results, it does take attention to detail. It takes being willing to slow down & caulk, fill all the nail holes, sand, & wipe it all down 2-3 times before the painting can begin. It takes time to clean off ALL the old paint from the pulls & hinges before re-installing them, or to complete all the steps to prep the surface properly instead of just slapping down some peel & stick tile to cover up floor you don’t care for. 😉 At first I thought you weren’t going to paint the inside of those doors, 😳 but I know you better than that. The bathroom looks absolutely beautiful!
Unbelievable. I can't believe that it actually has a wood grain look to it. I'm blown away. I love, love, love the cabinet knobs. So amazing and yes, I would try Retique It. ❤❤❤
The plates on the knobs look slightly too big on the cabinet doors. Maybe you could do a mix ? Have the plates for knobs on the drawers to fill up the space and no plates on the doors? Not sure. That product was very cool - nice find
Oh WOW!!!! What a major difference the cabinets turned up. Excellent. You wouldn’t have known that that was that wood cabinet put in and your handles. Yes ma’am they do it justice!! ❤❤❤
It looks wonderful! I love the knobs on the drawers, but idk about on the doors? Maybe without the backplate on the doors? idk..but the knobs are so beautiful, especially against the wood color!

I love following along to see the different transformations in your comfort cottage and rose garden homes… I am also definitely going to try out the retiqueit on my kitchen cabinets. I think it’s a lot more economical for my budget then replacing them and seeing you use it sold me lol
Antiquing kits from the late 60’s and early 70’s were very popular and much like Retique-it (though I can’t remember the smell). The kits from then came in both wood look and in colors with slightly different colored glazes as well. I did a bookcase and unfinished dresser to match a blonde dresser with a Formica top I couldn’t change when I was in 8th grade. I also did a 30’s style drop leaf table and chairs in a bright apple green with a bluish glaze for my first apartment in the mid 70’s.

Hello McCenna….love the work you’re doing for the drawer system. The back plates are pretty awesome for the drawers but the others can probably do without the back plate. It makes them look like they don’t fit the doors.
Beautiful. Knobs look incredible on drawers but somehow a bit oversized to where it is positioned on the cabinets doors, would be great without the backplate or same metal but different shape.
Yes! I would totally try the Retique It on painted cabinets or furniture! It looks amazing! I’ve already used the Sculptors Clay paint in two rooms and love it. Thanks for sharing products and your experiences!

This was such an informative episode. You are a wealth of information. We are so lucky to have you. The cabinet turned out beautiful. The knobs are so unique and really stepped it out. You should be so proud because we are of you🌹
I love how everything is looking! I’m so glad you tried this product, I’ve been thinking about using it on my vintage kitchen table that has so many layers of paint that I don’t want to strip off. I’ll definitely be ordering it now!!
I like how it turned out! The other videos where I've seen it used a tool for a more pronounced wood grain effect, but I like your more subtle look. I'll weigh in with my opinion on the two issues people seem to be commenting on most. I don't think the hardware looks too big - I had expected it to, but I like the oversized look. If it seems to interfere with the doors working properly, that would be different and you'd probably have to make the change. Oh, and I think you definitely don't want to put one in the middle of the panel under the sink. It would make it look busy. If you feel the need, it might take two as any wider drawer would do, but I think it fine as is. The section bf issue is using the Retique-It on the window. I feel like that's a slippery slope leading to doing the doorframes and then you just have a bunch of brown boxes outlined all over the bath, taking away from the look of the vanity. I'd leave the woodwork painted white or creamy or even match to your wall paint. And I'd leave the ceramic tile toe kick or basebosrd until you renovate. I can't wait to see the rest!
The hardware you found has just elevated those cabinets to a whole new level, I so love them! I struggle when spending and can now see the difference these make. I’m going to have to open my wallet a bit wider to achieve the look I’m wanting, thank you for opening my eyes/mind and wallet!
Wow Macenna this looks amazing I love it. I’m definitely going to try this on our bathroom cabinets. We have a very old pink bathroom and it desperately needs a remodel.
Okay I don't see that anyone has said this already. I'm really pleasantly surprised this worked so well, I've watched multiple videos on this product. They said on the retique it video it's better to use with water based products. It's better not too rub it on also... Lol. Your supposed to use the brush to get the brush strokes to immitate a wood pattern. They even have a larger and a smaller rubber like tool your supposed to rub down the "grain" . This makes me more confident about using it, and not even have to spend the extra money on they're stain and tools. Wow! If I had done that it probably would have came out all wrong. Anyways I love the stain color. Great choice!
This episode really spoke inspiration to me. I have a quart of the dark wood Retique It on order and seeing your results has me over-the-moon with excitement. So happy for you! Bless your spirit with endless creativity and vision ✨✨✨

I love the new nobs, but i would remove the baking on the doors, The frame on the doors are un my opinion a little to narrow, and it looks like the back plates are stikking out. Also the Retique It really does look like real wood!really does look like real wood!
I think the knobs would look better in the middle of the doors. I think the bases are too big, it hangs off a bit! But love this update, cant wait to see it finished.
Yes...I think the knobs without the large bases would look good too, they're not fitting and look a bit odd.
Agreed, I would do backplates for the drawers but the doors without the plates.
I actually like them oversized, but they'd look good without the backplates. I'm personally not a fan of cabinet hardware installed in the middle of the door.

This episode really spoke inspiration to me. I have a quart of the dark wood Retique It on order and seeing your results has me over-the-moon with excitement. So happy for you! Bless your spirit with endless creativity and vision ✨✨✨
Retique it opens up so many options!! Can you try to do it on a non wood surface? Like MDF, Plastic, Metal etc?

The color of the wood is absolutely beautiful
I love the new nobs, but i would remove the baking on the doors, The frame on the doors are un my opinion a little to narrow, and it looks like the back plates are stikking out. Also the Retique It really does look like real wood!really does look like real wood!
