You have helped me figure out that my hair
    1-doesn’t like glycerin
    2-does like protein
3-benefits from more of a swish to condish, than it does from squeezing the hell out of it to STC.
4-may actually survive my 4th attempt to do this Curly Girl thing.
THANK YOU!! I’m starting to see a few curls instead of cowlicks gone wild. 🥳
I can’t wait to try this.

I thought it was low porosity that you have to add moisture to? Because that's what I have and that's what I have been doing... Because I was reading that low porosity hair can be protein sensitive so you want to add moisture to it verses more protein. So now after I read your comment, I'm confused lol. So Isnt it low porosity hair that you want to add lots of moisture too and NOT high porosity? IDK. That's what I've been learning. I'm just a beginner though so that's why your comment just confused me. I thought high porosity hair loved protein which would make sense since your description of how your hair responded to the treatment. But please correct me if I'm wrong bc like I said, newbie who is now confused lol

Hey Courtney wanted to let you know that I did this treatment to my hair today and holy moly! My hair has been sad looking lately, barely wavy and lasting only a day. After the treatment my hair was even 3a in some sections! People noticed something different with my hair today. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us! God bless you sis!

But now my hair is so lifeless, dull, dry and basically sad. My wet hair is curly but the next day its pin straight and awful. Im definitely going to try the tips and products you used! Thank you!

I did my version of this mask tonight. I used the deep conditioner I typically use (my hair ADORES Cholesterol), and I AM IN LLOOVVEE😍😍 I have done the standard jello treatment before and had decent curl reinforcement, but I didn't think to add a deep conditioner to the mix.
You're brilliant. This mask gave me beautiful clumping, amazing pattern definition, and spectacular volume. I'm in the same boat you are when it comes to having fine curly hair, and if you're looking for something that might give you huge volume try a basic Cholesterol treatment. It ALWAYS works for me.
SHARING IS CARING! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ADVICE!

The easiest way to dissolve gelayin is to let it sit in cool or room temp water until it soaks it up and then add hot water or something that will melt it. This prevents it from clumping so that all of it dissolves beautifully.

    • @ezmadarlington942

    • @ThatOneLadyOverHere
      @ThatOneLadyOverHere Год назад +1

@Ezma Darlington yes, but if you put the powder directly in hot water it clumps and doesn't smoothly dissolve. I was explaining how to avoid that, but yes you need hot water, just after letting it soak up cold water.

Hey Courtney, I tried this gelatin mask last week! I started the CGM a month ago with nice shoulderlength 2B waves (but thick and coarse hair unlike yours), but was feeling a bit dejected with the longevity of my hairstyling... The waves in my hair would be saggy and weighed out every day in the evening. As a result I would have to wash or refresh every day. That's okay in the summer holiday, but not when real life starts up again!
This gelatin mask made a huge difference for me!! My hair holds the shape of the curls much better now, and they seem tighter, even averaging out more towards 2C now. I seem to also have consistently decent day 2 hair, without any kind of refresh whatsoever. Wow!!!
The only thing I did differently was that I added the gelatin to the cold water, let it sit for a minute to soak and then microwaved it for a few seconds. It dissolved very easily.
Thank you so much for this video and your channel, it's a real inspiration for me!

Is there a reason why you've used two styling products?

Im trying this right now!. I dont notice a smell to my gelatin. It isnt the same though. I eat a lot of THM, so I had gelatin sitting around from that. I also considered the powdered integral collagen in a similar treatment, but I havent seen anyone use that so I wasnt sure. Im hoping it helps. I always tend to focus on hydration because I live in a dry climate and I think I overdid it and a rice water rinse didnt work.
Update: My hair seemed to soak it right up and love it. In fact, when I went to rinse it out, it was as if I hadnt put any gelatin in at all. I also tried a new stylimg product. Well, at least I haven't used it since my pixie days and I never used it right. Now I used it right, emulsifying is the key (which I learn from you, thank you!). It's a taffy, it really does feel like taffy. Im gonna see how it turns out. Cant wait!

I’m having such a horrible time with losing hair all over. I’ve taken vitamins w protein and biotin and silica. No sulfate or other bad stuff in my hair. I brush my hair before I get in the shower then when I wash my rooots it starts the tangles. Then put in the conditioner n run my fingers through it but they get stuck bc of all the knots and I have to be really gentle bc by the time I’m done both my hands are covered on hair. I also use a wet brush after to get the product through to the ends n have hair stuck in there too. When you look at my hair dry in the front Ivan see my scalp and my parts ar very wide. My cowl lick has gotten really flat and it’s right at the back top of my head. I use silk pillow case, sleeping cap. Pineapple. My hair is the same length and texture and curl as yours. I’m just loosing so much hair that I’m ready to go get a wig before it gets too bad. I’m wearing silk scarves to cover up the front. I am sick with autoimmune plus other issues but thyroid and hormones are fine. Please any ideas???

I'm sure you don't have time to answer questions, but if you happen to be able to, I need to know, How do you figure out what your hair needs? When you say it's lacking protein? How do you know? How did you figure out that this product needed you to use it with products with protein and how would I be able to figure it out with mine? I find that nearly ALL products make my hair feel like it has buildup on it. your hair looks soft and bouncy and shiny, mine looks stiffer. My hair looks almost exactly like yours wet, but I cannot get the curls like yours when it's dry. The devacurl sylist gets them, but they still look a bit frizzy. Since they only do devacurl products she doesn't use products without glycerin. We live in the desert, no humidity! So anyway, if you could just point me in the right direction to figure this out, I'd appreciate it. I just love your hair and your personality in your videos!

Alright yall listen, my hair was moderately tangly and that scared me so I hurried and rinsed it out after maybe 5 minutes. I shouldn't have. I see the shine and the smoothness just from that one little 5 minute application. I'm going to do it again in about 2 weeks since I should've left it on. I'm excited to see my results then.

I have been trying the Shea Moisture Protein treatment. I feel like every time I use it I get TONS of wet frizz while in the shower. Could that be a protein sensitivity thing?

  • @heymssmithers

Based on what you said when finger detangling, would you say if I use a conditioner with protein, and I end up with hardly any slip and hard to detangling, then my hair is protein sensitive?

Did you know that synchronisd swimmers gel their hair with knox??? It makes a hard mask on air that stays on in the water. Absolutly terrible to get out....having dried little patches of knox for a week....but i awlays sensed that it did good to the texture of my hair, you juste confirmed it!!!!!

Is there a hydrolized vegetable protein that you could use instead of gelatin to avoid animal based products? I tried this with a leftover pack of gelatin in my cupboard and I like the results, but I prefer not to use gelatin in the long run.

This is an older comment, but I tried to find something for you and found agar agar is the vegan gelatin substitute though I didn't find many diy hair treatments with it. However I did find this blog science-yhairblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/what-cookin-vegetarian-protein.html?m=1 that uses beer so that may be worth a shot! I know fermented products are good for the skin so your scalp may like it as well.

@@tradingfriends thank you. I saw agar agar in my quest for search engine knowledge, but wasn't sure if it was suitable for hair. But thanks for the link. It has a few interesting things to try.

Hey, biologist here! Agar-agar is not equivalent to gelatin. It's made of polysaccharides, and gelatin is made from proteins, easily explained. So you wouldn't get aby results using agar-agar. If you want to have nice plant-based protein treatment, look out for rice water protein treatment. It's not as powerful as gelatin, but it does the job and has some other benefits, like it helps your hair grow faster and healthy and is really good for mantaining your scalp microbiome, so helps with reducing dandruff if you have that kind of problem 😊 hope this helps!
