Glad to see you still in the spotlight, man. Watched D&D Beyond videos solely for you, Lauren, and the others. Excited to follow you guys in your new ventures!
If anyone was ever wondering what a total nerd Joe Manganiello is, here is the proof! It was really really cool to listen to him talk about D&D and about everything the game means to him. Awesome video!
I, like many others, are so very happy to see you again Todd!! I am especially pleased to see you hitting the ground running with a 1-on-1 with the 1 and only Joe Manganiello. Great job Todd!! Looking forward to seeing more of your content!! 😊
That advice in legendary actions being basically x-1 where x is your number of players is huge, literally never even questioned why it was 3 legendary actions and never thought to change that. Great video
Loved this video, Todd. As a now two whole sessions as a DM, it's nice to have content like this to help me breathe a little bit when I feel overwhelmed. :)
I kinda like how Joe is riding the creative wave. His wife is in a great family driven comedy. He is an action star that knows struggle through working out plus making it in Hollywood and he runs private games for his 11 friends. Good for him. That tiamat story linked to the octopus was pretty clever.
It's great to see you up and running on your new channel. I'm new to d&d myself and I must admit, most of my fascination with d&d is due to the total life and energy you brought to your games and your loce for d&d. Your love and dedication to this game and the community is truely appreciated, keep it going!
The real name of this channel: "Beyond D&D Beyond". In all seriousness, can't wait to see what's in store! Also, somehow I was already subbed. Must be some RUclips shenanigans, but I'm not complaining!
As a newer player trying my had at DM'ing; I got into a trap of trying to create a world on the scale of GOT complexity. The world building is interesting to me. I've since learned I need to start smaller. I'd describe it as coming up with some Goosebumps style short story campaigns of 3-5 sessions, instead of one giant world. I need more time an experience to build out a bigger more in depth world.
While I appreciate DDB and have all my books in both physical from my FLGS and digital from DDB, what kept me coming to see the D&D beyond YT channel were your discussions with Lauren and the others. Psyched to see your new independent vids like this! Love the depth of humanity you and your interviewees bring to discussions of our fave roleplaying game!
Watching this from Singapore. Keep up the great work Todd! No more ball and chain attached to your leg; can't wait to see who and what comes next after this interview with Joe!
15:00 oh my gosh the same thing happened in the AL Dragon Heist game we played. My goblin wizard did the only thing he could do when we were arrested and stealthily swollowed the stone. We all died when two of the players were drunk and had their characters start a prison riot, but the Casalanters still never got the stone. Noots out for Wirt Who Died Thrice (previously known as Wirt Who Reads)
I always tell people to relax that we're just gonna have fun. I explain that D&D is a group improv game where I'm telling a story and they interact with it using their dice. That everybody plays differently and there isn't a right or wrong way to play their character, because it is THEIR character. And like Joe said, start really simple and then slowly expand out. People that I played with six months ago for the first time, they're now more into it than I am and I love that.
First comment! Woot! Edit after actually watching it This was interesting to watch and see and I am glad to see you still making content. Would follow you all over the net. :)
Feel like I don't have much different to say. So also saying, will always watch your content. You are always down to earth, enthusiastic, and so into making sure everyone else is having fun!
I was wondering if there is anywhere I can watch this entire interview. I've watched this and the Dragonlance video, but both seem like they cut into the middle of longer interview.
I haven't yet seen the Octopus Teacher, but I imagine the octopus would have known the human could stop the shark and expected the human to do so. If the human did not do so, then they were being inauthentic, dishonest, ignoring certain facts, pretending that "humans are not part of nature", pretending that species never help each other. In reality, sometimes "prey" gang up and fight off predators (e.g. Buffalos chase away lions), dolphins save humans, cats befriend birds, bears befriend cats, etc..
joe, funny you’d mention DMG and the planar chapter. Started 2 years ago on 5e after 25 years of break. That’s the only chapter I skipped due to I found it too complex in the (re)beginning... 🤣still haven’t read though...
Most people don't retain the information on one read through. I recommend reading it multiple times, or just sections of it multiple times to remember the content. It is also not necessary to member all of it. Taking notes and writing things down helps a lot as well. The most important thing to remember is what page and where the information is on that you need. The index is your friend.
Came back after a 20 year hiatus...lifelong friends we decided it would be fun to run some adventures...I got ready to run AD&D break out the old books but they suggested let's try 5E. Dragged my a$$ kicking and screaming and complaining....last year and I bought every book and we have been running my homebrew setting ever since.
11:30 Did Joe just admit to trying to murder someone? This is some Armie Hammer level stuff going on here. In D&D, a DM will often try to kill a character, but trying to kill a player in any edition was still felony murder in the United States.
I think my absolute favorite fact to come to light throughout the pandemic is that Joe Manganiello will drop everything to talk to just about anyone about D&D. My sister loves the fact that "the naked werewolf from TruBlood/Mr. Sophia Vergara" is a D&D nerd. We often laugh about the fact that the top three hobbies for industry personalities at his fame and success level are cocaine, hookers, and cocaine. In that order.
First vid on the channel, an interview with Joe Manganiello. Nice flex! I look forward to a lot more great content!
Glad to see you still in the spotlight, man. Watched D&D Beyond videos solely for you, Lauren, and the others. Excited to follow you guys in your new ventures!
Love your work Todd- happy to follow you wherever your content goes.
Same here
Ditto!
100%

Glad this was posted today since I have three new players starting this week, and weird coincidence, I was born in that very hospital
So good to see you still bringing the content Todd!
Really looking forward to more 😁
11 players WTF, mad respect just for that
Let's go Todd! Great to see you snagged Joe to interview to kick it off. Great start and great work
That advice in legendary actions being basically x-1 where x is your number of players is huge, literally never even questioned why it was 3 legendary actions and never thought to change that. Great video
Great to see you, Todd! :)
Great talk. Joe is super cool.
Great video! Love the natural tone of the conversation. Felt like watching friends chat.
Thanks.
I am glad you are still making content. Thank You.
I could listen to you two for hours!

So happy to see you back Todd, look forward to more videos from you.
Two of my favorite people talking about my favorite subject what more could anyone ask for

What an awesome first video for you, Todd. Love it!
This is such a fantastic start here. Super interesting.
damn. this is perfect can't wait to see more
Damn, I wish he would teach a Masterclass on DMing.
You're the one who got me into playing D&D, love seeing your content!
excellent job! great and insightful interview. thank you for doing the work you do.
Where is Joe Manganiello's RUclips channel where we can watch him DM?
Edit: misspelled his name, because of course I did.
As a fellow Todd I am sooo happy to get to follow you on your own channel!! Love your work, & appreciate all that you do for our beloved hobby.
Glad that you Continue your RUclips Vids!
I believe that there is a Dungeon Master in us all. The rulebooks are a guideline, a jumping off point. All you need is a story, a map, and some dice.

I don't know how I was subscribed to you but some how I was and I am glad.
Great to see you making videos.
Congrats on the new job and I am SO GLAD you are still making videos, they help get me through the work week.

great video cant wait to see where this channel goes.

Great start, Todd! I look forward to more.
Great job Todd, great stuff from Joe! Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!
Glad to see you back! I was worried for about 10 minutes there. :P
Whoa, what a great way to start your channel!
I could listen to these two talk about gaming every week :)
Great interview, keep your great work up !!
Thank you for the amazing content! Love your interview style and am eager for more :)
First comment! Woot!

Woooo early commenter! Excited to see your channel grow!

good to see you out with content so soon, hope to see the guys from WebDM here sometime.
lovin' these TK!
Keep up the good work!
Perfect first guest
so glad that you keep on doing this awesome Content
Welcome back to your old channel Todd!
I much prefer this to the D&D Beyond video's.
Tossing fire right out of the gate.
My goodness Joe can ramble 😅 love his insights but goddamn!
My druid has a -3 strength modifier. I rolled really poorly.
*Talks about Planar Travel*
When are we getting a “Book of the Planes” for 5e?!
Oh my God that would be amazing!
Perkins has hinted at Planescape content many times
Great video. Gkad to follow you brother
I was wondering if there is anywhere I can watch this entire interview. I've watched this and the Dragonlance video, but both seem like they cut into the middle of longer interview.
You have my sword.
And of course, my axe
And for sure my bow.
Nice way to start the channel
Yes running 4 vs. 10 players like I am currently running is a completely different game challenge for a GM and the players.
I want to learn to play... Also my sons may be interested too... Keeps em off the computer
Coming right out the gate, hot!
Cool interview. I heard Vin Diesel used to play D&D too.

Subscribed.
do either of these guys post videos of the games they dm on a regular basis, or did they? please past links if you know any, please

my group has never played a prewritten campaign, we make our own set ups.
I got the dungeon masters guide recently and I'm having trouble retaining the information. Has anyone got any advice on that.

Joe: "Now my dragon has 10 Legendary actions..."
Me: O_O
Screw D&D Beyond, im here for ya Todd!!!
Joe don’t be silly, of course they don’t wanna read it. Read the original folios.
Great video, thanks guys.
Had no clue he played Dnd :0
A perfect channel for the perfect warlock . 🍺
