God I love actual dnd characters affecting the cannon lore, like back in the gygax days. Hail the paladin of Tiamat
I agree! I love it! I could not of stated it any better.
As someone who has spent his entire life trying to reconcile his nerd side and his jock side I love that someone like Joe Manganiello doesn't just play D&D but is so clearly passionate about it.
I’m really glad that guys like Joe are involved with D&D, he loves the game and brings it.
Of course it was on a Thursday! Todd should have caught that :)
Technically . . . by that time it was Friday!
Ultimate player goal, have your PC become cannon to the lore :D
Gotta have goals!
Leeroy Jenkins!
If you record an entire adventure from start to finish in book format you have money.
P.S. not joking.
@@earthobserver1007 Not "rich". Have all my personal House Adventures bound in book form.
I am so happy for Joe, that Arkhan is now canon. What an honor and definitaly #DnDGoals
Anyone else feel like Joe is the perfect example of like a jock-nerd? He seems to be too cool to be in to D&D and yet here we are.
Also "I WIN!" *SPLAT.*
Yes, i'm gonna go sit in the corner and think about what i did.
SPURT NOOOOOOOOO.
@@warforged7948 I wanna be like "Spurt YES!" but no 😭😭 RIP SPURT!
Well he lived a long 11 days for a kolbold lifespan
@@warforged7948 That he did. Even though obviously Kobolds live MUCH longer than that. Perkins obviously played him with a sense of time relative to how old Spurt actually was.... If that makes sense or is even right lol.
Jocks Machina lol
All three of you gentlemen are absolutely delightful! Getting to know the amazing people who are creating new content and helping shape this magical shared space has ignited my own creativity in ways I never expected. Thank you for sharing your passion for D&D!!!😘
Love Joe's 3 part description of Arkhan-- Conan/Darth/Darkness. That brings a lot of clarity to the character.
When the celebrity promoting the thing is actually invested in the thing to the point of becoming part of the thing.
My current DM has created a brilliant way to get Arkhan to help my character and props to my DM
so, what i'm actually hearing here is... Arkhan gets to be included in a canon adventure for D&D, all because he crossed paths with Vox Machina.
no, he has become a stable part of the world and has been an advocate for main streaming our game. much more than Vox Machina
The Book also says that arkhan was in exandria, This makes vox machina and the mighty nein canon.
@@damian_bubble6287 Officially Vox Machina is outside the contents of WotC. only because the book was published elsewhere (Why WotC didn't jump on that campaign setting I will never understand) which means they cant include anything referencing the product. However the name Exandria is fairly generic and could refer to any number of places and being so general allows them to use the name. Its the same reason Idle Champions, a game licensed by WoTC, cannot use Vox Machina characters in the game.
@@nickhuffman3177 But the Wildemount supplement is an official licensed product so Exandria does exist in canon in some form.
This was a nod to the wild mount book they couldn’t announce yet lol
So is the book gonna casually mention Vox Machina and how Arkhan got the Hand?
That would be lovely.
I wondered this too. Does this make VM cannon too? I choose to believe yes 😂
Maybe just a mention of Arkhan getting the Hand in another plane/dimension, I don't know if they are going to make the whole of Exandria canon, but I wouldn't be shocked, CR is so damn popular afterall.
from what has been released in review pics exandria is talked about a little
I believe in the description in the book of Arkhan says something to the extent of "after his travels in Exandria and gaining the Hand of Vecna..." So I believe there is a passing mention which in turn makes them canon :)
A really deep conversation on D&D.
Every time I see Chris Perkins now, i just think about Spurt.
So many questions... How is the Hand of Vecna affecting Arkhan? What was the Ioun stone with the cost of a goblin baby? I'm so excited about Descent I'm about to plotz! Thanks for sharing that tale of Joe's Player Character becoming a canon part of D&D.
Arkan got the Hand on the last boss fight in Critical Role. I would imagine he is fighting for his sanity depending on how much time has passed
@@ShadowxOfxFlames I would think that being in actual hell would make "fighting for your sanity" *SO* much harder. That said, pretty hyped for this one. The "souls as currency" alone already has me drooling for the roleplay possibilities! It also makes me fear for our good-mannered cleric in our party...
He has to consume unicorn horn powder to stave off vecnas power thats trying to take over his mind
Came down here to look at the nice comments but keep getting distracting by people not spelling the correct version of canon. Cannon = large artillery. Canon = Accepted lore of a story (or a camera company).
Good... I wasn't the only one confused by this...
lol Joe's character in his game with Todd was QUASI Evil. He was the margerine of Evil....
Melamber “You are the margarine of evil” is some cutting words right there. 👍🏽
The "margarine of evil" 😂😂😂
Oh man... that made my day! Thank you!
On brand would be " I can't believe it's not evil"
He was the Diet Coke of Evil. Just one calorie, not evil enough.
Tiamat: bringing balance to the universe, just like Annie did.
I like how joe is so big the camera thinks he needs a different focus value.
I'd love to see Arkhan cross paths with M9 one day. That'd be great.
Imagine a player villian working with Matt. Like how awesome would that me. Especially since VM never said that they actually messed with Arkon after he too the hand. Only really have the paladins of bahamut going after him. If the M9 fought him that would be amazing
There is a chance, him and Matt are friends.
Joe Manganiello is a God.....celebritys like him are the reason more and more people are coming into the hobby
Joe is the reason I got into d&d after seeing his interview with Colbert.
"It was a Thursday actually" haha Chris came back with that so fast. Jeremy is amazing, but damn am I gonna miss Chris as DM for Aq Inc.
Joe with Arkhan makes me think we need a Warlock pact of dragons Officially
To be fair one goblin baby for an ioun stone IS a pretty good exchange rate......
An Ioun stone for one goblin baby? That is a steal if I ever heard of one.
Can we get one for the feywild
Ooh you have no idea who long I shall be waiting for this to become a full fledged mapped out area.
I'm now waiting forever for Chris Perkins to actually give us a scenario where asmodeus actually congratulates you for something and says you go champ
I imagine the rise of Tiamat would be a little like Deathwings return in wow and Arkhan would initially play a Cho'Gal ish role but only as a setup.
If archon is critical role cannon and now official cannon, does this mean vox machina is cannon!?
At the very least they are part of the same universe/multiverse, Critical Role has done a tonne for D&D's recent popularity boom so it makes sense
Exandria and Toril are two different planets. They could possibly be on the same plane of existence, or on different planes altogether.
BUT THE 9 HELLS ARE THE NINE HELLS EVERYWHERE!!
Tal'dori is a book that is published by D&D.
Kerrek, Pat Rothfuss's CR character, appeared on DCA, which is canon...so yeah Exandria, and Vox Machina, by extension, is canon
No
Arkhan is the perfect example of why altruism leads to the tyranny of a god over its subjects. Huh.
“Arkhan would do what Vader would do.” Would Arkhan be redeemed at the end?
Tyler Boyce Beautiful. Also, terrifying title idea for Arkhan: The Herald of Tiamat.
Remember he is not just Vader, but Darkness from Legend as well
Syegfryed Hellscream Idk who that is, lol
@@claduke Ledgend is an 80's fantasy movie. Well worth checking it out :)
What's Chris' thoughts on the current state of Dice Camera Action and how or if they are going to move forward?
Just got Descent. After we redeem Zariel, Arkhan will take her place and rename Avernus to Arkhansas.
I have Arkhan as one of the antagonists in my D&D campaign and he accidentally turned into Thanos 😂
Beeman24 same minus the Thanos part, can’t wait to get more info on him in Descent and use this interview to get more into his head space. I’ll likely have to power him down a bit so he doesn’t TPK my players but I still want to do Joe’s character justice.
@@relint12 he was like 17th level on critical role The Descent caps at 13th level, you will have to bring his power way down so he can't TPK an adventuring party, but I think he is supposed to be very powerful and likely not meant to be fought by the party, I heard Kate Welsh and others talk about interacting with Zariel and Bel both are archdevils one is a fallen angel one is a pit-fiend, Tiamat is also lurking on Avernus somewhere too (you may even see a Demon lord), I get the feeling that there are many things in hell that can destroy you and as there should be
"Vader, but more metal"...
Tbf, I always imagined Arkhan as a bit like The Kurgan from Highlander...
This is amazing. To have arkhan as an npc is such a cool thing, can t wait for it
Joe was such a troll after Vecna's defeat.
We are just starting the path of the devils. 25 weeks and going strong!
It is a dream of mine as well, to have a dnd character of mine become cannon. One day.... one day.
“ we have a good story... but it’s in hell” I don’t know why but that made me laugh
Chris is the best DM ever.
"There is the power to redeem in hell" is such a good line
Hey I know this is very late but just hearing it. Mr. Mangoniello, with all due respect, I was also there during the Satanic Panic, and I don't remember "many" tens being sent to prison for murders they didn't commit. Having said that I'm almost jealous of your game room. God bless y'all and stay safe gentlemen.
The focus is all over the place! My brain hurts :(
Imagine walking into a room and seeing Arkhan and Spurt being interviewed by your DnDdaddy
This is the real shit man. Just so awesome
We need 5E Dark Sun!
And a campaign that doesn't stop at 12th level
"Satanic panic" I wish I still had the fliers. We almost got 3 teachers fired when they tried to ban the books on campus at school.
Is there a VoD of the game Todd and Joe talk about in the beginning? I wanna see how he steals that Goblin baby :D
I just started watching critical role’s back log and I’m dying to get to his guest appearance
So... This by proxy makes Critical Role canon.
"I survived a walk through hell, risking my own soul, but pulled souls free of it's damnation. And found my own salvation." A story of heroism unmatched, save for one book in our reality. ☺
"Kids who wore black and listened to Metallica, were put in prison for life, for murders they didn't commit. This was kind of a common occurrence."
Really????
This is based on fact, or???🤔🤔
I wish I had friends to play with
Who needs friends when you got strangers on the Internet...
@@BlueSun_ who needs stranger when you got your imagination
I hope Joe is gonna be involved in the new movie
Great chat. But that random camera focus makes it really hard to watch.
Would love to play a game or few with Chris Perkins my last name is Perkins as well LOL
what would vader do...might be quicker to think what would he not do
Boy it was annoying that the camera kept going out of focus.
Does anyone know if Chris is starting any new campaigns that will be viewable online?
Does this mean a possible return of Arkhan in critical role
Maybe the bowl Callianna had that Yasha dispelled and broke was tied to an Arkon plot!
I guess you would have to take a pill of those who played the Avernus campaign and see how many killed him. I know our party did because our DM had him try and sat he would help us if we have gone the soul of the LG flying elephant that was in our party.
I am thinking about sending my LE Drow players to the First Layer of Hell. LOL
I wanna see Manganiello's character in play.
Check out Critical Role Season One
All 119 episodes...
He only plays in the final battle. So if you want to see only him, find that. If you want to see some insanely good roleplayers and friends. Watch all 119.
@@PalleRasmussen ^^ if you want, skip the first 27 episodes. it turns a lot of people off to be honest to start from one but it gets so much better starting from 28.
Tiamat is the Thanos of D&D lmao
Is that Deborah Ann Woll in the background waiting around for something?
Looks like this is their interview space. you can see her sitting on a stool and it looks like she's responding to someone. Likely a separate interview. Or indirect True Blood reunion.
I’m replacing Severin with Arkhan in RoT
So lay on hands can reattach limbs?
Does anyone know where I can watch the campaign?
What campaign are you referring to?
If you didn't know, they were referring to Critical Role and the epic conclusion to their story. Joe was a guest in episodes 113 and 114 of Campaign 1. That epic moment is why this character is in the book and this video was made.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the in and out of focus between the three of them is bothering me 😅🤣
Great video - please learn how to focus the camera. I thought I was having a stroke.
ohh lord.. set the lens to f4 and raise iso so that way everyone is in focus ..this in and out of focus is killing me :(
Everness. = )
WWDVD?
WHERES THE SPELLJAMMER AT!?!?
Does anyone else want to see Arkhan asend to a Demi Godhood?
Wait so since Arkhan is canon wouldn’t Vox Machina and all of Matt’s world be canon too?
Focus problem?
LOL you must be new here.
Our 55 mm is a bit off. We will find a replacement.
Instead of darkness I would have said Geralt from witcher
6E?
Godsake's man get more microphones!
Wait...
Can we go see Tiamat?
Can we invade her realm?
Does she get new stats for how she fights in her home plane, with lair actions?
CAN I FINALLY RUN AN EPILOGUE TO TYRANNY OF DRAGONS WHERE TIAMAT SEES JUSTICE?!
When you don't set the aperture right lol.
dip a toe in and lose a foot lol.
Holy shit the focus is bad lol
"Kids who wore black and listened to Metallica were put into prison for murders they didnt commit, and this happened alot."----citation needed. I remember the satanic panic well, theres not a bunch of prisoners from that. Im on board with DnD and have been since red box, I wore alot of black, listened to heavy metal, even came home from camp one year to find my mother had thrown away ALL of my toys and books and replaced them with sports equipment. But theres no need for this hyperbole on the other side to make up for it. Did it happen? Yes, but isolated incidences, few and far between. We cant claim the moral high ground on this issue if we just let bombastic and inaccurate statements like that go unchallenged. C'mon Joe, you're better than that.
Gabriel Shervo First off, you misquoted him. He didn’t say that “it happened a lot,” he said it was “kind of a common occurrence.” I feel that the qualifier of “kind of” is an effective way of saying “it happened more than it should have.” That still may be overstating the frequency of those events, but it’s not near as egregious as you make it out to be.
You probably shouldn’t chastise people for making exaggerated claims if you have to change their words to suit your argument.
@@Demonrifts Joe doesnt need you whiteknighting for him. What he said was innaccurate, proveably. Quibble all you want, he engaged in hyperbole with a microphone in his face. I'm a fan of his, but of an age to know he exxagerated, badly. Doesnt help the cause to blow things put of proportion, especially when he has a platform that reaches so many. "A common occurance" and "happened alot" mean the same thing. Unthinking partisan zealotry is never helpful.
My best guess, he is making reference to the West Memphis Three.
Nah, I’m not white knighting bub. I know it’s a common defensive tactic for people to pull whenever they get caught in logical fallacies, but calling you out on your misrepresentation isn’t anything close to white knighting.
You misquoted him in such a way as to make his statements seem much more exaggerated than they actually are. There is a world of difference between “happened a lot” and “KIND OF a common occurrence.” Either you intentionally changed the words you were quoting, or you misheard him. How can you call someone else out for misrepresentation or hyperbole when you’re just as guilty?
good grief in 1985 there was an entire 60 minutes episode about this on primetime tv when most households only had like 4 channels. I wouldn't call that "isolated". It happened a lot! There are people (over the age of 40) that still believe this stuff.
Such amazing people to interview and the interviewer is annoying as hell trying to make jokes that aren’t funny
