Beth Roars hello Ginger Scotland I guess when you grow up....LASS There is a TV ad in the USA I think you might like this one ruclips.net/video/1H9FI87HK-s/видео.html&feature=share
Europe Is so underated, sure this song Is a classic and their trademark song. They have a ton of albums, that If you live In the States, you don't even know about or care about. They have been around for 40 years now and still' going strong!!
I love how he still brings the fire, passion and gives it his all so to speak. A lot of bands, as they get older and they've played hits a million times, mellow out a lot. Yet, and especially in the rock/metal genres, they give it their all for their fans, night after night. Which really does tend to lead to a unforgettable performances, band sustainability over the years, and a loyal and dedicated fan-base.
As a Swede, I can be proud that our small country has been blessed with so many singers & bands throw out decades, Abba, Roxette, Europe, Avicii, Cardigans, Zara Larsson, Rednex, Army of Lovers, Swedish House Mafia, Spotnicks, Eagle Eye Cherry, Charlotte Perelli to mention some others. I recommend Loreen with song Euphoria & Måns Zelmerlöv with song Heroes from Eurovision song contest 2012 & 2015 both won with their song
Joey is one of the few of his era that still has it! And Europe is one of the very few bands of the 80s that are still doing great music (in a different style of course, but it's still great quality). The last 3 albums are underrated.
Gracias por analizar a esa gran banda Europe talentosisimaa sigo esa banda desde el año 87 soy de Mexico. Y hasta la fecha siguen mejores y esa voz de Tempest guau. Todos todos talentosisimos. Gracias.
Norum is a beast! One of my favourite guitarists of all time, hands down. Great phrasing, awesome vibrato, clean technique, and every note rings like a bell. And he always brings his A game live!🤘🏼
All of them needs. Maybe not a band that made many hits but to be honest, a lot of the best bands alltime didn't make much hits. Europe still wrote many damn good songs and they are all just soooo talented. Especially Joey
Thanks, Beth. This brought back fond memories. First heard Europe when they opened for Def Leppard back in the '80s during the Hysteria tour. So much great music during that era. It was awesome to hear it again and get your take on this band and their lead singer.
He still can sing but in my opinion, he was fantastic when we were young, he is only 1 year older than i am and i started following them when they won the tv show in Sweden called Rock Sm. Was never a contest tbh, they crushed it. I am so happy John Norrum came back and is in the band till the end? I actually meat him after a show he did after he had left Europe, cool guy who actually talkes to the people he see after a show.
Your video just popped in my home and I could not avoid watching it Been a Europe fan for almost 12 years now, I was 13 at the time. Went to my first concert in 2017, first row, and they have been freaking epic. Had to repeat the experience so when they came back to Italy in 2018 I was there again, still in front, and they rocked the hell out of me once again. For me being at their live shows (they tipically last for about 2 hours) means singing along as loud as possible and jumping until my legs don't function anymore, they're so energic. I was also so lucky at my first concert since at the end Joey literally came in front of me and I managed to tell him how much I love Europe and how amazing it was to finally be there with them after so many years. Go see 'em live if you ever have the chance!
And he’s over 50 in that performance. Saw them a few years ago and they were fantastic. Joey never stops moving on stage and sounded awesome. I read somewhere that he doesn’t drink alcohol the day of a show because it dehydrates his throat. Instead he drinks warm tea. Who knows if it’s true but he’s certainly taken better care of his voice than a lot of others from the 80’s.
As a Swede born in the 70s I grew up with Europe. One of the few bands I have seen live more than once. The first time it was in their classical hard rock set up, second time was when they did a special set up with several good covers, including a very good version of Pink Floyd Wish you were here. Have never heard anyone do that song so well other than the original
Honey, you can smile all you want--it's one of the reasons I adore your videos! I never really appreciated this song until I listened to this version and heard your breakdown of his vocal style, and yes, the man's voice is holding up well. Like it or not, this is one of the most iconic songs of the early 80s and I remember well when it first was released!
So much so that you consider '86 the *early* 80s! ;) ... But I feel the same. Our local radio station had a daily hour of listener-wishes (from 5-6 in the evening, I believe), and from the moment this hit the charts, that hour didn't end without at least one listener requesting this song - from '86 through '90 at least. It certainly helped define the 80s.
Oh yeah! This was the song that brought Sweden into the 21st century. They rented a float for Europe to play on and with Stockholm on the water, their song reached the whole city. The whole population was out on streets, we had an enormous wagon filled with champagne bottles and sung along, drunk as skunks and happy as quokkas in a selfie. That was a glorious night.
in 1986 his voice was of course higher and a bit cleaner, but i think he adapted to age really well. and i guess u think so too beth, hehe. loved the reaction tnx...
I don't comment a lot on RUclips, but in this case I had to say thank you! I love your reactions and therefore I'm very happy, that you have chosen one of my favourite bands this time. Although after being a fan for 30 years I like TFC only live.... I have heard it to many times and hate, that I always have to name that song, when people don't know who Europe is. There are so many other and more recent great songs.
It's a really great review. However I think Joey was on the top of his game in the 90's. And it's also worth to listen to him on the actual TFC album at his age of 23 or so. He had a really unique, powerful and beautifully clean high tenor with the flexibility he might not have today.
On the flipside, the band's style nowadays is FAR from this cheesy stadium rock stuff, and Joey's matured, grittier voice is *perfect* for the darker, bluesier stuff they've been making since their reunion.
They were my favorite band from 1987 to 1989. I actually wore the writing off on my cassette of this album, I handled it so often. It was, is and remains an iconic song. I went to an In This Moment show a couple years ago, and the venue, between acts, played a medley of rock songs. And they played this. Having never seen Europe live, the volume of it in that arena during the change-over was the closest I’ve ever come. And it was the highlight of that night. Better even than In This Moment.
‘Not Suppose To Sing The Blues...’ is one of the best blues rock tracks i’ve heard & sounds nothing like the 80s Glam iteration of Europe... The difference is truly amazing!
I'd be interested to see what you think of DIMLIM. The singer is very influenced by Kyo, the lead singer of Dir en Grey, a band you reacted to before. As for live songs, I think the best quality one is Regret, and Sho really shows his vocal range in the live version of that. They don't have a lot of high quality videos, because they are a relatively young band.
Hey Beth, I reeally recommend the Brazilian Singer Zé Ramalho( Chão de Giz especially), His voice is very powerfull and has a great Lyrics(btw i can help to translate). Very famous around us brazilian and I think you can be surprised!
Thanx Beth for react, the best..!!..Joey's is a pure incredible talent, an' I'd like to suggest "Tomorrow" from "Out of this world" album..hope you'll make a video 'bout it..thnx again :) :)
The work is transposed downwards a minor or major second (I don' know...) from the 80s version which can make a lot of difference in the voice when happening in a transition zone.
As a Greek this brings me back to 87 Eurobasket win by Greece, first ever European trophy, as this was the openning and closing theme for the final against the mighty USSR....Great memories!

Wow Joey Tempest and Europeee. Back when i was a teenager 😀
Love your beautiful voice showing here. I'd like to hear more of your singing.
His name is Joakim Larsson:) And i saw them back in väsby, and a friend got the old leather jacket from Norum befor they hit it big. Take that! :)

Because this is even more impressing, being aged and still got it.
