People don’t realize that your plants don’t just thrive just because you live in Australia. They thrive because you are like you stated “consistent “. Well done Jan thank you for being an inspiration 💚🌸 Hugs to Brad❤
Thanks :) it's like that with every skill ... people don't appreciate how much effort goes in until they do it themselves .... maybe I make it look to easy online :D
I mean, it's true he puts in a lot of work but it's kinda annoying when people don't acknowledge how lucky they are. In this video he literally says how insanely hot humid it was. I've even heard him claim his success isn't because he's from Australia, because 'Australia's climate isn't always hot and humid'. Purposely not mentioning that where he lives specifically is very hot and humid. Reminds me of when rich people say they worked really hard to become rich and don't mention the giant loan they got from their parents. Everyone who's successful in anything had some luck involved, I wish people would just be honest with that, I would respect them more.

Absolutely agree with all the challenges you've mentioned! I feel like it's the most untameable one among others, and the next one is Splendid. Also, absolutely agree with consistency! And this applies to all aspects in life, not only the plant hobby!
OMG I jumped and tried to grab the plant when it fell over!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha! a very authentic "chop and extend" of sorts, and much more realistic for many of us!!!!! Lovely plant, you've done an amazing job. I managed to buy my first Glorious rooted cutting last week, I'm hoping it will be as beautiful as yours in a few years.
28:58 You live in Sydney and the rain and humidity, and not having to run AC, does give you some advantage. I live in Arizona in the US. The Sonoran Desert! 🌵 My plants definitely struggle. I run a humidifier, it feels like the moisture instantly evaporates. I have to buy distilled water for the humidifier because the tap water is so full of minerals, it will leave a white dust over everything. I have an older apartment that was built to keep out all direct sunlight. I love plants and didn’t have any houseplants for years because there was not enough ambient light from the sun coming in. I knew I had to invest in grow lights if I wanted to keep any plant alive. I have to run the AC for 5-6 months of the year. Last year, every day of the month of July was over 110° F/43° C. (Don’t ask me why I live here, I don’t know.) I’ve been doing this hobby less than 1 year. It’s a struggle and I’m still figuring it out. I’ve decided I need a greenhouse cabinet is a necessity if I want these plants to thrive. This is becoming an expensive hobby. Don’t underestimate the impact of the Sydney climate on your plants!
He said climate sets the potential, care realizes it. I agree that it is easier to grow in a nice climate but I think his point was about people who assume that with a tropical climate you don`t need to work at all because the plants grow themselves and no matter what he does the plants will grow huge and healthy. I understand his frustration, for me it is the same with people who think my plants are nice because I "was born with a green thumb" and they could not possibly keep any plant alive. That just shows ignorance about the actual amount of effort that goes into growing plants I think, as if I did not research and trial and error and invest a lot of time and money into this hobby to know how to grow plants in my conditions to be huge and mature, it is not JUST the "green thumb" or good climate, it is a lot more. That honestly goes for every person that is good at something like an instrument or art, people assume it is talent and therefore easy for them without grasping the thousands of hours of practice it takes to get to a professional level. I live in germany, it is very cold and dark for half of the year and the other half it is hot and dry, it took me a few years of experience but I am able to grow huge plants now. You have some disatvantages with your climate but you will learn to grow despite it and maybe even gain a deeper understanding about what makes your plants grow well.
Agree with the comment above … never denied that I have an advantage, just saying I still need to realise the potential. You certainly have a disadvantage naturally but can be overcome … just saying it’s certainly possible, just maybe not at the time & effort you are willing to out in and that’s something only you can decide :)
@@fluffy_mcsparkleVery well said,I get told that,I was born with a green thumb,I understand your frustration. You take what you have and make the most of it. Good growing 💚🪴🌿
@@sydneyplantguy I don’t have a Milsbo green house (yet.) A week ago, I moved some of my plants to a greenhouse I used for starting seeds after they were planted out. In the last week, I’ve seen more growth in some plants than I’ve seen in the last six months. It’s amazing. I have *most* of the plants I want. I’m definitely making judicious decisions on my collection, on what is and isn’t worth the money, space, & effort to keep versus the joy I get from it.
40:45 I always wondered why the water was brown because when I put GT FF in, the water doesn't change color, now I know it's the root zone that you add as well.
Fellow Australian plant lover here (Brisbane) - being in Australia is somewhat an advantage in terms of the warm and humid conditions BUT also creates a heap of other issues us plant parents need to manage ie you know your babies are gonna cook in one of our many heatwaves or completely dry out if you miss a watering. Waw ! Such a beast you got there! You did an amazing job with it, congrats ! 👏🏻👏🏻 Cant wait to see the evolution of this top cutting. I wanted to mention that at 4:05 you talked about glorious and EFN. Actually, the sugar like liquid on the leaf is not EFN, but nectar. Sorry if this sound pedantic but I've read a lot of confusion about it. The liquid is the nectar, produced BY extrafloralfloral nectaries. EFN are secreting glands, not the liquid. Also a lot of people said that the brown spots on the leaves are normal because they are EFN, but in fact these brown spots are just burnt leave spots, caused by the nectar secreted by EFN, but no the brown spot is not EFN. 🤓

you are a great plant papa .I will be following you. I have 83 plants and want them to grow bigger leaves so i will follow your tutorial on moss poles.
I really need to put my glorious on a pole as she’s only a wee little baby. Also I got a El choco Red from Flora Magnifica because of one of your videos about it 😅😂. I love your videos.
41:40 great tutorial on the real hard work it takes to have big beautiful plants ❤ If all of my plants grow to potential Im going to be in trouble 😅 do you actually keep track of when each plant is getting fertilized or do you fertilize with each watering? I can't keep track. I use a very diluted amount with each watering. I use all GT products but my water is barely tinted brown. Maybe I need to use more?
Thanks :) I just fertilise with every watering because it's too hard to keep track. The brown color comes from a small about of GT rootzone on top of the GT Foliage Focus :)
Thank you for this video. It seemed more like what happens whenever I decide to chop my larger plants. There is always a mess and choices to make that are not clear cut. Can we see updates of the top cut of your plant? It seems as if you might loss some leaves on that one due to the small root system. I would be very surprised if you don't, but would really like to see what happens. If you can make that work without leaf loss you are truly a magician.
Certainly expecting the plant to drop a couple of leaves in favour of re-establishing a new root system .... that's why I'm so annoyed for not getting on top of it earlier :) will definitely make an update video once there's news to share :)
Do you ever consider the PH when you are feeding your plants? Just ask because I have never heard you mention it in any of your videos. If you do feed at proper PH do you measure after you have added your nutes? TIA Love ALL your videos!!!❤❤❤❤
Jan, I also had to 😂at the comment "your plants are large cus you live in Australia ",I'm glad that you address this as I'm in Adelaide and as you say, "condition "plays a big role in the success of your plants, as well as nutrients, consistent etc.I can't stand humility, so therefore my plants don't get the "optimum" condition as in summer air-conditioning is on constantly and in winter heater is not on at all 😅. So I know that plays a big role in the size of my leafs growth, but besides humility the plants are relatively happy with the constant nutrients upside down method of watering to maintain moisture in the moss pole 😉, say hi to Brad and a cuddle too 🥰
Wow !!! Huge plant, lots of patience required, wonderful, entertaining and fun video. I know it's only been two months but how are those two beasts going, especially the top one ?
The patience.. dismantling the moss pole.. love it. I thought it would just fall apart. Is it easy-er to get of the sphagnum when it's humid or dry? Love the "embrassing the mess" statement, I will tell my family to do the same (hope to see you next time 🤣)
I learned so much! A tour of your rearranged room please. Is your mom still in Sydney? Does she have house plants 🪴 or garden in Germany? Will your merch be available soon?
On the Grow Vertical pole, could you put two of the plastic backings zip tied together and both ends to the mesh for a deeper moss pole if you needed to? Love your videos!
You did a great job. You plants are visibly well taking care off even the ones in the yard. Also, I think Something is very wrong with your plant hahaha! You said “Stay, I am gonna grab the knife” and it did not run for the hills?😮😂😂😂 😂😂😂
I want to put my verucosum on a pole some day but I dont want giant leafs. I already chopped my monsteras leafs because they blocked everything. Only left one leaf. How to keep the leafs from going big without compromising the health of the plant? Should I keep it away from the window? Should I even give it a moss pole. Or maybe give it a small pole and chop it before it reaches maturity? I am not sure.
Great video as usual, thanks Jan 💕 I've been waiting for you to mention that lovely philodendrum smell 👃😋💕 Did you seriously say "I'm lazy"? I think we will all disagree with that, you are actually a workhorse! Fingers crossed for the top cutting🤞
As a recovering "control freak" myself, i agree one needs a proactive mindset to stay on top of plant care and supplimental conditions. It must be unassertive personality types complaining they don't live in Australia, as if they can't do anything themselves to maintain nice "houseplants". It's frustrating when life gets in the way, but you did a glorious job taming that rogue top cut. 😻
Thanks :) ... good point ... if only people were aware of their own personality types though :D I'd never put little effort into something expecting amazing results ...
The way you said “disgusting” made me think of the video where the Irish mom busts in and yells at the kids for being DESGOSTANG. What a great reference lol
Hey jan. Love plants and videos as always. Yiu have helped me so much with my plants. Can i ask how u mount your PS32 together. I have some and cant work it out. Thanks.

Heyy do you know any good places where they sell philodendron glorious (preferably small businesses). First time seeing your videos and u seem like a really nice plant parent. Keep up the good work ❤❤❤
I have a small philodendron that reached the top of its 60cm pole last week. I’m happy to keep it relatively small as opposed to extending as I don’t have heaps of space. should I cut it right back or only a little off the top? Thanks for all your helpful vids!
The smaller the cut, the less roots & leaves, the more of a 'set-back' to the plant. If you choose to keep your pole smaller you will have to chop more frequently which means you'll induce more shock. Completely up to you, just note that you won't get the full potential out of the plant :)
The splendid is making a lot of progress. It would be cool if you did a video special on the splendid, and it’s vigorous growth.❤ besides this plant spotlight
Where’s Timmy to help with this gigantic beauty?! I’m going to have to tame my Philo Joepii, it’s star fishing in every direction Love your explanations so much, all sciencey, but how we can understand it. It all seems so obvious when you explain everything
The bottom half was supposed to be a surprise for him so I didn't ask him to help :) that's great to hear ... I always wonder if I overcomplicate things :D
Just wondering how cold it gets where you live? I’m in south Florida and I just grow EVERYTHING outside. Indoor houseplants seem like way too much work. I just recently started putting various philodendron cuttings at the base of my palm trees (no need for moss poles here) LOL. Hopefully mine will grow just as big. Great videos btw.

It’s definitely supposed to be entertaining :) glad I achieved that!! Hehe
Always enlightening to watch you in action. 45:06
Love this kind of video, repotting and extending is so helpful.
Thanks :)
you are a great plant papa .I will be following you. I have 83 plants and want them to grow bigger leaves so i will follow your tutorial on moss poles.
Happy growing :)
Winds and rains were crazy here in PA.
Stay safe :)
I really need to put my glorious on a pole as she’s only a wee little baby.
Also I got a El choco Red from Flora Magnifica because of one of your videos about it 😅😂. I love your videos.
Happy growing :)
32:19 haha. What scented febreeze spray would you like? I want philodendron scent
I love your channel and your amazing plants. Love how you keep it real and you’re so cute! lol 🪴
Thank you so much :)
Enthusiasm is contagious. 🤩
Reactions like a jedi 😂. Noch viel lernen wir müssen von Dir.
Haha :D
Do you ever consider the PH when you are feeding your plants? Just ask because I have never heard you mention it in any of your videos. If you do feed at proper PH do you measure after you have added your nutes? TIA Love ALL your videos!!!❤❤❤❤
I never do :)
So I know that plays a big role in the size of my leafs growth, but besides humility the plants are relatively happy with the constant nutrients upside down method of watering to maintain moisture in the moss pole 😉, say hi to Brad and a cuddle too 🥰
Thank you!! You’re making good points :)
OMG I'm tired just watching this! Job well done and so entertaining.
Thank you:)
😂😂😂😂😂Those "cat like" reflexes on point! Looks awesome 👌
Brad taught me :)
Wow !!! Huge plant, lots of patience required, wonderful, entertaining and fun video.
I know it's only been two months but how are those two beasts going, especially the top one ?
It’s struggling a bit but getting there :) definitely planning an update video but it will take a while :)
Hi Jan, do you have any ideas against the dripping of the plants on the hardwood floor?
“Acknowledging it’s going to be an absolute mess..and we’re embracing it. 👀👀”
You’re so cute and funny at the same time, Jan 😊
Thank you :))
The patience.. dismantling the moss pole.. love it. I thought it would just fall apart. Is it easy-er to get of the sphagnum when it's humid or dry? Love the "embrassing the mess" statement, I will tell my family to do the same (hope to see you next time 🤣)
Thanks :) easiest when it's wet or moist :)
I learned so much! A tour of your rearranged room please. Is your mom still in Sydney? Does she have house plants 🪴 or garden in Germany? Will your merch be available soon?
Thanks :) mum is back in Germany now. She grew cacti & bonsai when I was growing up :) and yes, working on the merch :)
On the Grow Vertical pole, could you put two of the plastic backings zip tied together and both ends to the mesh for a deeper moss pole if you needed to? Love your videos!
Totally :) or u could cut the width of the wire which makes it deeper :)
Hi at time - 32:31 you are holding a white plastic thing.. could you advise me where to purchase this please ?
It’s from grow vertial :) linked in the description
You did a great job. You plants are visibly well taking care off even the ones in the yard.
Also, I think Something is very wrong with your plant hahaha! You said “Stay, I am gonna grab the knife” and it did not run for the hills?😮😂😂😂 😂😂😂
Thanks :)
Thank you for sharing another great video. I have this plant and now I'm beginning to wonder if I should keep it inside. Kisses to Bret. ❤
Thanks :)
Great video as usual, thanks Jan 💕
I've been waiting for you to mention that lovely philodendrum smell 👃😋💕
Did you seriously say "I'm lazy"? I think we will all disagree with that, you are actually a workhorse!
Fingers crossed for the top cutting🤞
My version of ‘lazy’ is probably productive for others :D
That was 100% my reference :D
Love how the bottom extension was only 6 leaves but still taller than you 😅excited to see how my cuttings will size up
The perioles are just soooo long now 🫣🫣
That's a HUGE glorious 😍 I would love to bottle that distinctive Philodendron fragrance ❤
We need a philodendron candle :D
@@sydneyplantguy great idea!
Nice catch ✌️🩷
Thanks :)
Hey jan. Love plants and videos as always. Yiu have helped me so much with my plants. Can i ask how u mount your PS32 together. I have some and cant work it out. Thanks.
I use the screw that’s used to mount it on the disk to mount them together (yiu need to unscrew the top of the bottom light and screw it in from the inside out of that makes sense ?!) it’s not a very official way 🤭🫣
It’s not a rant. It’s a reasonable response. I feel the same way when people are dismissive of the effort required to grow beautiful plants indoors.
Fair point hehe :) thanks!
Wooow so big!!! Amazing. Would you not allow to callus the top part before planting? I’m due to my chop soon😍
I gave it about an hr or so to callus over but I wanted to get this over & done with :D
Your a ripper 😊 so informative funny and nice guy i have learnt so much from videos thankyou so much 💓
Thanks heaps :)
I've just made up your plant mix love love loving it also looks great thankyou
Your plant is absolutely gorgeous, you didn't really want to cut it did you??.. don't blame you,but you will be helping it..
Thankyou for sharing ✌️☮️🍄🌱🌼🐞✌️☮️🍄🌱🌼🐞
Buying one soon. But have you heard about philodendron nangaritense? i have 2 love them. Edit it has red on the back and little on the Petiole to think you will love it if u have not seen it
Yes i’ve heard about it but somehow never had the desire to grow it 🤷🏻♂️
Wow, that was quite job 👍😀🇨🇦
But got it done yay !! :)
I'm in zone 10 (ac year round) with east facing windows and all my plants have grow lights and humidifier running. If the plants are indoors they will need extra help
agree :)
Congrats on your overgrown Glorious😳. I totally get what you’re saying about having to provide consistent care for your plants to thrive & size up. I live in southern USA, but my plants can’t take all the heat & sun in the summer. I have to work with grow lights in all 4 seasons. Well done Jan, you should be proud of your accomplishment with plants. Thanks for being an inspiration to us plant parents!
Great info about house conditions ,what plants need etc.to be the best 🌿.I heard :she has a green finger and I know I don't ,is like you said dedication ,consistency, etc ....
The weather in Sydney has been crazy!
A great chop for the better of this huge 🌿
👋
💚🌿🍀🌵💚
Thanks Carol :)
Hi I live in Turkey and tree Fern does not have fibre. What can I use instead of Tree Fern fibre? Would it make much difference if I use coco chips? Thanks and your videos so much good thank you
You can use coco chips but be careful with nutrient lockout , especially cal & mag.
@@sydneyplantguy According to your aroid mix, how many scales would you advise me to put? Or how much less than tree fern fibre?
Heyy do you know any good places where they sell philodendron glorious (preferably small businesses). First time seeing your videos and u seem like a really nice plant parent. Keep up the good work ❤❤❤
I get most of my plants from Growing Grounds Australia. Small nursery and she has glorious available everybnow and then. Ships australia wide :)
Its the "Wheeee“ for me😂!
haha !! :D
Fabulous Sweety 😽
I think philodendron smell like pine almost, very close to it at least. I LOVE it too haha sometimes I just wanna chop them to smell it haha
Yes you’re right!! :)
Thank you for all of your awesome videos. What size pot are you using for those big boys?
Thank you :) 20cm for the top, the bottom is in 25cm
I have a plant spotlight on the splendid already :) it's certainly one of the fastest growers :) might make another one eventually :)
Your plants are gorgeous, but don’t you have central heat and air conditioning in Australia?
We do … just not in that room
Where’s Timmy to help with this gigantic beauty?!
I’m going to have to tame my Philo Joepii, it’s star fishing in every direction
Love your explanations so much, all sciencey, but how we can understand it. It all seems so obvious when you explain everything
The bottom half was supposed to be a surprise for him so I didn't ask him to help :) that's great to hear ... I always wonder if I overcomplicate things :D
Great real info.
The more we give the more we get!
The Sydney weather is crazy ...
This plant is glorious × 2 now, great job!
💚🌵🍀🌿💚
Thanks :)
Winter can go down to 5ish degrees celcius at night :)
About the same winter temps here. You should try growing some outside too. You might be pleasantly surprised!
Leaf rip beats snap any day xD Growing tropicals in scandinavia: at least we have air humidity going for us. Light tho? xD Sure, at least 3 months of the year xD
At least you're heading into the good season now :)
