  • In Jung's view, a complex is a collection of images and ideas centered around an archetypal core, imbued with a specific emotional tone. Once a complex is triggered and starts to exert its influence, it can have a highly emotional impact on a person's psyche and behavior, regardless of whether they are aware of it. This influence can even become "dominant." Strong emotions such as love or hate, joy or sadness, gratitude or anger, often accompany the activation of a complex. At such times, we may no longer be able to rationally present our true selves and instead become entirely controlled by the complex.
In this sense, a complex is similar to a psychological instinct that, once triggered, operates automatically according to its inherent patterns. Therefore, individuals trapped by a particular complex tend to exhibit thoughts and behaviors dictated by that complex. From a clinical perspective, complexes often result from psychological fragmentation; traumatic experiences, emotional distress, or moral conflicts can all lead to the formation of a complex.

Thank you this was direct and succinct.
I've been trying to come to terms with why I've been attracted to something that wasn't good for me. Realising more that what the other person gave was part of what I needed, yet the other part was challenging my shortcomings. Seeing your last video on giving I realise that I've figured some things out, and gotten better at acknowledging my own boundaries.
A naive part of me has wanted to reconnect with the other person to heal things together, or help them and help myself by getting a form of resolution. Yet I'm also very weary scared of getting back together with the other person as I don't want to be trapped in the same dynamic and she might not be ready to shed layers, and I don't want to lose face, again. So best if I could get to the place wear I understand and accept the past and don't begrudge what happened.
A part of me wants to mend the past as you said, and hard to let go of something we never had, but felt like we had.

It sounds like you’ve made significant progress in understanding yourself and your boundaries. It's completely natural to have mixed feelings about wanting to reconnect and heal past wounds while also being cautious about repeating old patterns.Reconnecting might provide some closure, but it can also risk reopening old wounds if both parties aren’t ready for it.Sometimes, letting go is the healthiest option, allowing both individuals to move forward independently.

    *poof*
Just like that, get damaged enough times in life, nothing matters any more.

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling this way. It's true that repeated hurts can make us feel numb and detached. It's important to acknowledge these feelings and seek support, whether through friends, family, or a professional counselor. Healing takes time and effort, but it's possible to find meaning and joy again. You're not alone in this.
