Hi everyone the Triumph 2.5 p.i. the pump used to overheat when it was a hot day or in the summer but you can get a Bosch pump as well but you can get one they're very rare you can get one with a metal pipe like a coil goes over the pump and call it call the the pump down the petrol used to cause the engine pump down

Back in the 1970's when the UK police used Pi's as fast pursuit cars, many forces would bypass the fuel pump cut off switch as it would often jump up, killing the engine when in a Sweeny style car chase!

But you can with the distributor you can upgrade it to electronic ignition with that it will always start on the 1st twist of the key and sometimes there is on where the wiper motor is it's a long sore or like a cigar Connor thing with a button on the top 4 a cut-off switch with the 3-manifolds they are two systems the Mark 1 and the Mark 2

With that pump you have your hand on he only had problems when it was a very very hot day when the pump overheats there is a German one the boss pump but there is another pump it is a copper pipe goes round the pump like a coil go through the petrol tank and then it goes around the pipe calling the motor down sometimes the brushes inside the motor the other one sometimes you need to change the brushes but the one with the copper pipe goes around the pump with petrol through it is a lot better and the other one pump

Hello Tony, Enjoying your blogs on the Stag. If I may add a laymans Observation Without Predjudice PI parts on the bench, Cant see the double drive gear for the metering unit and distributor, may be covered over in the engine block? The distributor block bolted on the engine is for a Carb Set up. Longer bolts needed for the PI Pedestal. Not shown on thediagram Metering unit has an over fuel pipe connection for low pressure return to petrol Tank.Im sure you know all this anyway. Looking forward to more stuff. Regards Jimbo.

Well done with your analysis of the injection system. Look forward to your next program, hopefully the rear drive unit which was a problem for me trying to match a 2.0 litre mk 1 which was an excellent engine to a 2.5 litre model mk 2 rear drive unit. Can you tell me what I had should have done to eliminate the heavy growling noise when driving at 50mph.

I think that in the TRs the pump was in the tank or the boot... anyway the original overheating pump issues were supposedly mainly when the fuel level ran low so couldn't cool the non-Bosch pump.
It would make sense to build the car a rare injection 2500 even as an automatic since it all looks pretty good and straightforward on the bench.

Hi there, My fiend in the UK has the 2500 PI saloon , he just purchased the bosh pump kit, and cant figure from the instructions on where to fit the new pump with its associated bracket, can you shed any light on this?

Replace the lucus pump with a Bosch pump, works so much better and more reliable.

Hi there - I did see a feature on one of the Triumph Stag Facebook Groups the other day and I can't find it again. May well be worth putting a post out on one of those Triumph 2000 Triumph 2500 PI Groups to see if that gets and answer. All the best Kind regards TR Tony
