    Thanks for this proper and simple video ......I hade gone through all these steps with my PI motor. Still running a bit faster than it should
    but its no problem on the open road. Maybe one of these summer days I will rebalance the intakes. Keep up the good work!

    This is a great series and really helpful. I have just bought a 72 TR6 which had been standing for around 40 years I'm told. After changing the fuel pump, which was completely dead I finally had fuel coming up to the engine bay. Then all of a sudden, petrol started pouring from the metering unit although I couldnt tell exactly where it was coming from. What would suspect to be the problem with the unit? There is in the boot of this car another unit which looks to be unused and my first instinct was to swap it over but looking at it, I think theres a little more to it than ripping out the old one and throwing in the new.

      Hi Johnny and thanks for watching. If youve got a PI car then check out the video on the uprated BOSCH fuel pump setup which lives in the boot. Itll explain what can go wrong and what to consider with the uprated setup and how to get a consistent 105 PSI to the metering unit.

    Hi, very useful - thanks very much for posting. When you balanced the throttle bodies with the airflow meter did you increase the revs by adjusting the main throttle stop (and not the idle bypass setting screw?) For throttle body setting it would make sense to me that the idle bypass is taken out of the equation, so screwed shut. Thanks in advance for your opinion / advice. Cheers!

      Yes. You are right. Used the throttle cable adjustment to set the revs about 1500-2000 to balance them taking into account the play in the inter throttle body linkages

    Great set of videos - very clearly explained! Just wondering if you had any additional information on the throttle linkage upgrade (10 min mark of video)?

    • @mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349
      @mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349  2 года назад +1

      Thanks and thanks for watching. the upgrade is well documented on the net. in summary youve got a single bar actuator and then 3 ball joined shafts running to each throttle body so they can be adjusted individually rather than relying on each other. It is however expensive for what it is so i'm looking into what's involved in making one up on a budget utilising the existing levers . It a project for this year sometime all being well.

    Managed to source one just in time for cylinder 5 and 6 not firing. Checked the vacuum and barely anything from 5 and 6 throttle body. Worried about trying to adjust it if there is another reason. Spark and injectors check out and good compressions just not much vacuum there?

    • @mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349
      @mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349  Год назад +1

      yes the 3 throttle body setup and balance spring adjusters are sensitive to adjustment and it does take time and patience. the good news is you cannot damage anything by trying and learning how to get it right and the impact of each adjustment on the airflows. good luck and thanks for watching

    Real handy balancer tool. Can I have the name of the manufacturer so I can source one please mate? I have a bike balancer tool but not sure the vacuum works in the same way or if there is a vacuum take off for the pipes.

    🤔 Did i see your TR on a classic car sale site ? Are we leaving Triumph and moving on to another classic.
    thanks and good hunting

    Hi. I know im commenting ages after the video was posted, but im hoping you can help anyway :). We have a mk2 2.5PI that runs beautifully. However if we turn the air screw to set the idle to anything below 1100 the car will try to stall when throttle is applied so is a meance around town for example - other than that the car is perfect. Any ideas? Cheers.

      I’d be thinking fueling and timing may need adjusting with those symptoms. Maybe consider getting a rolling road session to check the setup . Thanks for watching

      @@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 Thank you for replying. We have actually just spent a fair chunk of money having the fuel pump upgraded, metering unit rebuilt & set, plus distributor rebuilt and timed all by a specialist who recommended that work would solve it...however that still didn't cure our idle issue! Maybe a rolling road is the answer as you say. Cheers.

    I changed all injection system (from pump, MU, injectors, admission_coming from N Ferguson) ; it seems I get serious pb on admission
    My idle is roughly at 1400t/mn ; I do not find any air leakage around, and the butterflies look almost nice or not ?. Do you think a very little leakage could produce such idle, which suggestion you propose to determinate the problem. You suggest to reinforce return springs, and to spray molykote D321R on butterflies and around. This product is able to resist to heat, and to fuel (and not to burn in tne engine)? several layers are necessary ?
    Many thanks for to share your video and your advice,
    Regards, René

    • @mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349
      @mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349  2 года назад

      Rene, thanks for watching and the comments. The molykote is used by several OEM. Yes, the throttle discs at idle are pretty much closed with idle being controlled by the bypass screw, therefore any slight increase in airflow from the discs will increase idle speed. Its application is designed to reduce the gaps between disc and throttle bore to lower airflow. The TR6 has 6 large discs producing massive airflow so it helps reduce this. It should be applied when the disc is closed in the bore fully so when opened the fully closed airflow losses are eliminated. The spring changes allow each throttle body to overcome the stiction each throttle spindle will have , meaning adjustment at idle when the springs are at their weakest returning force will become easier. hope that helps and good luck with your adjustments

      @@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 Many thanks for your explanations, helpfull for understanding; I will try as soon as I get the molykote (the only product possible, no problem with fuel and heat?), I find original springs (even new) are too weak. give you news when the test will done, Regards

      I think this one came off an auction website from memory but the big triumph or MG parts stores sell carb balancers. This one is not unique to triumph as they can be setup for any carb intake by adjusting the aperture airflow
