- In todays video we are taking a look at the ace pilot legend; 'The ghost of Kyiv', an unknown Ukrainian fighter pilot, flying a Ukrainian Mig-29, who has reportedly shot down 6 Russian fighter aircraft in 30 hours making him Europes first ace fighter pilot since World War 2.
Update
The 'Ghost of Kyiv" was confirmed by the Ukrainian government who have since been ruled as an untrustworthy source due to their bias for false claims to boost Ukraines image and moral.
As of making this video, that was not the case.

It is not the weapon that levels battle field, it is the operator that wields the weapon. Chuck Yeager, an American fighter pilot of World War II and the Korean War and who later broke the sound barrier in the Bell X1 said in his book about a past experience in the Korean war. He was having a argument with his commanding officer. The argument was whether the Mig-17 or the F-86 was better than the other. The Commanding Officers position was that F-86 will beat the Mig 17 every time and that the pilot is irrelevant. Yeager stated it was the pilot and not the machine. During the argument they made a bet. There was a captured Mig 17 on the field and they decided to settle this argument. They would go up, one in the 17, the other in the 86. they would dog fight and then land and switch aircraft. Chuck Yeager waxed(beat) is commanding officer both times proving that it is not the Weapon, but the person who wields it.

I already stated this to a very polite commenter that told me it was a 15. I responded to him and said that he/she was correct and that I was going off of a memory of a book I read over 10 years ago. Last I heard CNN reported that Ghost of Kyiev shot down an entire squadron of Russian fighters while doing a barrel roll, backwards. He then refuelled in mid air while shooting down 5 planes while refuelling. Then he shot down 18 more planes on his way home, zig zagging between debris. Ghost of Kyiev we salute you.

With THESE STATISTICS this pilot is sure to go down in history as one of the heroes of Ukraine along with all his fellow pilots and rightly so. It’s also incredible to think that this aircraft that was originally manufactured such a long time ago is now experiencing a higher heyday in the 21st-century than it ever did in its prime and knocking all the others out of the sky. I just watched another video on this guy/plane, and Ukraine has updated these fighter jets 4 times since the 70s, so it wouldn’t entirely be Soviet era equipment. That isn’t to take away from what the guy has accomplished, just a note that the aircraft is substantially upgraded from its first iteration.

He says its confirmed to be true, gives no sources, and then spends half the video listing random facts about the airplane. I stand with the Ukrainian people, but the Ghost of Kiev is a piece of propaganda, nothing more. This is just the content creator farming views off this viral subject.

Consider - UAF, USAF and PAF (Polish) have conducted joint training exercises. While this may not fully qualify as being "US trained", a keen UAF pilot could learn a lot from this experience. To the people that play video games & are self-professed experts, stating the MiG-29 doesn't carry suffient weapons...most European countries prepare for war knowing air fields would be main targets. Therefore, fuel and weaponry (including cannon rounds & AAM's) would be re-located and aircraft can be operated from freeways and other roadways. Yes, they can. The Swedes fully expect to do this and prepare accordingly. If you're a small air force, operating tough planes (Russian planes, for their pros and cons, are generally built for rough conditions, such as having heavy duty landing gear. So what about operating for 30 some hours - come on! During the Battle of Britain, British pilots operated for extraordinary long hours, fueled by adrenaline and love of country. The idea of a UAF pilot saying "I can sleep when I'm dead" and hunting down Russian pilots with questionable training, mastery of their planes, and quite possibly not very motivated to kill Ukranians, is not at all unreasonable.
I was in Air Force intelligence from 1982 until 1996, and by the time the mid 90's rolled around, we were getting human intell from Russia that most of their pilots were training for no more than 3 hours every other week. They couldn't afford the fuel for multi-day, multi-aircraft training, along with other economic hardships for their military. I don't believe that training regimen would have changed much in the intervening years either.
The inlets of MiG-29s are designed so they can be flown from dirt and grass strips as well.

it was confirmed by a war thunder youtuber who made him and also by the fact that ALL aerial units were destroyed by Kalibr in initial attack. Using this plane...he became an 'Ace' in 30 hours (just amazing!) of the Ukrainian war. (The USA and NATO called them Fulcrum's and boy they were tough 50 years ago and in the right hands is still a beast today! God-bless him and all the Ukrainian people. '

@@gabrigabriele1650 I highly doupt that MIG 29 is a very complicated Fighter Jet. In fact you can even fly this plane ( as a non trained ) in a Combat Flight Simulation on a powerfull PC. It is called DCS ( Digital Combat Simulator ) which is 100 % authentic in realism because this plane is very old and the flight avionics are not top secret any longer. All the instruments and flight abilities are 100 % same as the original. And i can tell you .. even a 16 year old can fly this plane !
Reading your comment i come to the conclusion that you have no idea of reality !
This Jet is very agile but burns a lot of fuel during the flight which shortens the flight to approx. 30 - 45 minutes maximum. After that the plane has to land and be fueled up again before starting the next seek and destroy mission. Please do us all a favour and stop commenting with nonsense like you did !

@@bwu45 Thank you, but i know that. I have DCS installed on my Computer, but did't fly the MIG-29 yet. I am more interested in the A-10 Warthog Close Air Support missions and the upcoming AH-64 Apache Combat Helicopter.
The MiG-29’s first flight was in 1977 and entered service in 1982. It’s not even 40 years old yet, right along 50. F-16s, F-15s and F-18s are the same age.

'Kyiv' is more common today (since 2019) and is used by the US State Dept. in diplomacy and official geography, though I agree that 'Kiev' is the one I'm more used to. I don't speak Ukrainian, but my guess is that 'Kyiv' is preferred because it's either closer in spelling, phonetics, or both, to the Ukrainian spelling/pronunciation of the city.

there was a canadian pilot in ww2 that was incredible. at first his commanders didn't believe him. the films from the plane just showed empty air. eventually live witnesses confirmed his prowess. he was an excellent hunter of game. so in his aircraft he would shoot leading his enemy. he knew where his shots would be when they reached the enemy. so films from the cockpit showed his shooting at air but his enemies flew into the bullets .
he had the tracers removed from his amo belt because tracers didn't shoot down planes.
At 19- my great uncle was an RAF pilot he told me that many of the Alberta Saskatchewan Manitoba boys had better sense of where the enemy was because they hunted as children.)

Tracers are real bullets but with a small burning charge at the base. They most certainly will shoot down a plane. If the story is real, he may have had the tracers removed as to not give away his position, but not because they are just pretty lights and ineffective.

The German pilot, Erich Hartmann, made “Double Ace in a Day”! That helped put him over “300 Victories.” And he was flying against the Russians! He made “Ace in a Day” on three different occasions. (Ace-in-a-Day means the pilot shot down 5 enemy aircraft in 1 day).

None of the ATA combat over their is BVR. Both sides fighting with the same russian aircraft. IFF does not work so good so to minimize fratricide you need to get in close.

It's an interesting story, but it's kind of disingenuous to claim the story is "confirmed." It's not. This is why all the images used existed before this current conflict. Confirmation would include current images, footage, or news reports from reliable sources. But still, all we have are rumors. Not to be a downer or to make light of what the Ukrainians are going through, but I think it's unfair to misrepresent their situation one way or another.

i personally think that even if the ghost of Kyiv isn’t real it is a good morale boost for a country that isn’t being given enough support and is basically being left to drown while learning to swim if you understand. This isn’t to be a downer about it because i have relatives there and i also want the conflict to be solved, but seeing how Putin reacted he doesn’t care about all the civilian casualties and sanctions won’t help anything until a few months from now and even then it won’t help protect people directly

the ukrainins where firing at their own units (a ural zu-23) in kiev, the strela 10 was nearby, retreating which was also fired upon by friendlies who where shooting at the ural in the confusion turned into a car and guess what smooth brain accidents happen especially in war. as for the aircraft firing into a building that was a ukraian mig-29 firing upon russian heliopters at the antonov airport.

Just to add some additional context for anyone who may have doubts - A Mig-29A has roughly 30-40 minutes of gas, and that drops to 15 or less if they need to start pulling combat maneuvers. The Mig-29 is notoriously short-ranged, and it's fuel capacity is considered it's biggest drawback.
Now, with that in mind, and the fact that airports/airbases were targeted and the fact that there is no Ukrainian tanker in the air, ask yourself if you think a single pilot in an old Mig-29A can take out 6 enemy fighters that are better equipped, in 15 minutes, while not being shot down themselves.
And also the first targets of the russian army were the radar stations, so basically this Mig-29 flew almost blind with only the basic radar on the plane. The time he could target a russian plane he would been shot down at least twice. This is just ukrainian propaganda.
