      It's actually a very conservative and crappy air frame design. It still uses conventional air intake (instead of more advanced DSI intake) that affects stealth, and its manuevability is achieved solely by a powerful TVC engine.

      @johnjingleheimersmith9259 5 месяцев назад +1

      "All aspects"? Spoken like a dunce that knows nothing aside from "ooo look shiny and LOUD go boom, big power fast!"
      The F-35 is by far more versatile, and capable of performing air-to-air, air-to-ground, and electronic warfare missions. Making it more flexible and adaptable compared to the F-22, which is primarily designed for air-to-air combat. The F-35 boasts superior advanced sensor fusion capabilities, allowing it to integrate data from various sensors (radar, infrared, etc.) into a comprehensive picture of the battlefield. Enhancing situational awareness and decision-making for the pilot. It is also designed to be a node in a network-centric warfare system, enabling it to share data and collaborate with other aircraft, ships, and ground forces in real-time. Meaning better coordination and effectiveness in complex operations. The F-35's single-engine design simplifies maintenance and reduces operating costs compared to the F-22's twin-engine configuration. With its versatility and affordability, the F-35 has been adopted by several countries, ensuring a wider global presence and interoperability with allies. Some other advantages over the F-22 include improved stealth, incorporating advanced stealth technologies, enhanced survivability with advanced electronic warfare systems and defensive countermeasures, and ease of operation, as it is designed to be user-friendly and easier to operate than the F-22, reducing pilot training time and costs. While the F-22 may win in a couple raw performance and power numbers, the F-35 is miles and above the superior aircraft.

Next gen fighter jet known as the NGAD (Next gen air dominance) will have no vertical tail surfaces and will sport some extremely advanced technologies to advance its stealth capability which will make it less appealing than the Raptor. So let's enjoy this beauty for another decade or so since the Raptor is the first aircraft that will go when the NGAD starts arriving to the fleet.

      @CoffeeAndPaul Месяц назад

      @@mikeyplayz8438, it's ugly for practical reasons.
      Your complaint, though, is valid for a good reason, & that reason is Recruitment & Retention.
      The USAF DEFINITELY has a "drop dead sexy" requirement for whatever air superiority model is expected to be the primary fighter in conflict. The F-22 is no exception.
      The upgrade for all flying F-22's that's meant to hold it down until at least 2030 is noticeably shinier. Instead of the eminently practical matte grey it had since '97 getting some sort of metallic-looking surface treatment.
      That's not by mistake. All the US Armed Services are having problems with recruiting & retaining good warfighting talent. One way to help solve this problem is good advertising.
      Since World War I & US Army aviation we've sold prospective recruits a lot of Sizzle, & fortunately for us we actually serve up pretty good Steak. There's a lot of fascinating jobs across the US Armed Services.
      Federal civil & military service doesn't have to be boring. If you're willing to truly explore your limits & grow to work beyond what you thought you could do you'll find a lot of interesting, challenging, difficult but rewarding roles these days. We'll never stop looking for a Few Good men & women.

So basically if jet engines can fly over Mach 1 without the aid of afterburners then that's super cruise. Right now only 4 fighter jets can achieve this, F22 is not the only one! The Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale and Saab JAS-39e Gripen can too. Edit: each plane has a supercruise top speed, Apparently the F22 and Typhoon can do Mach 1.5 , Rafale 1.4, And Saab 1.1 . And there were jets that could do it in the past like the English Lightening and a few prototype US jets like F-16XL .

      @@danimayb First off, the lighting doing it is a matter of definition. The US Air Force had this defintion: supercruise was defined as "the ability to cruise at speeds of one and a half times the speed of sound or greater without the use of afterburner for extended periods in combat configuration."[2]
      By that defintion, the Raptor is the only one. The weapons being held internally is a MASSIVE advantage. Putting weapons and drop tanks etc. on planes is a massive drag on the plane. When you have a real world loadout, then you can do it perhaps with the Tyhoon, however with missiles, etc. you don't succeed in the ..."for entended periods, in combat configuration" part.
      If you don't fit the bill, change the defintion, guess.
      Once again, by US Air Force definition, none of the planes you mention fit the bill. The Raptor does. The cutoff by that defintion is Mach 1.5. The Raptor can attain Mach 1.8 without afterburners. The Rafale can attain Mach 1.4 without afternburners. The Typhoon can attain somewhere betweeen Mach 1.2 to 1.5 (which would qualify it at the top end if that number didn't drop with weapons loadout).
      So, I know people want to pretend, but the Raptor is still by itself in this regard. It is capable of Mach 1.8 with a real world weapons loadout. Easily number 1...by a wide margin.

Absolutely amazing tech either way.

    • @recoilrob324
      @recoilrob324 11 месяцев назад +3

      No, no, and no. Yes the YF-23 DID out perform the -22 in a couple areas...but not by much and both airframes more than met the AF requirements. There were no 'orders of magnitude' differences in any of the testing except perhaps weapons delivery where the YF-22 held the high ground as it was able to fire missiles where the YF-23 could not.
      Same thing for the engine competition: the GE DID out perform the P&W in a couple areas...but again by a small margin and both met all requirements that had been set forth. (disclaimer: I worked at P&W on the 5000 engine/nozzle and readily admit to my bias)
      In the end it's good to always remember that the Air Force would rather have improvement rather than innovation. The F-22 under the skin is a relatively conventional build where the YF-23 was breaking new ground and when billions of their precious budget are at stake...the proven technology will usually get the nod. Same for engines where the GE used an unconventional cycle while the P&W is very familiar to anyone used to jets and won the competition because we worked long and hard making it as simple and foolproof to maintain as possible. This sounds like it should be the norm...but that's not the case and many jets are a pain in the ass to work on. The maintainers vote went pretty much universally for the P&W from the reports we got back at the plant despite early bragging from GE that they were winning.

The RAM on this plane is also prone to deterioration. That's something that was addressed in the F-35. It isn't as stealthy as the F-22, but has significantly better sensor fusion. And yes, it still has some significant bugs to work out due to the high complexity of its various electronic systems

What surprises me is you still have bigdummies in comments sections like these that think the F-22 is the better aircraft, as if dogfights still matter anymore. Dogfights don't matter if you never even see your opponent, let alone get close enough to make swirling around in the air effective. It's all about who can detect the other first now and get a missile lock, even if it's miles away or even beyond the horizon.

The F-22 was built in response to the Sukhoi Gen 4 and 4.5 jets, like the SU-33 and especially the SU-35S, which is still a threat today in 1v1 WVR fights. The latest block SU-35S has the same omni-directional thrust vectoring nozzles that it's had for decades (the Raptor only has bi-directional), new avionics, and AESA (Active Electronic Scanned Array) radar, similar to the Raptor and Lightning II. The SU-57 was built in response to the F-22 and the F-35. In fact an engineer at Sukhoi, when asked why they had jumped from 35 to 57, made the joke that it was "because 22 + 35 is 57", referring to the F-22 and F-35.

      Wasted money? Please educate yourself. The F35 is by far the better aircraft. The Rock may be physically superior to me in every aspect, but if I can see him through a scope over a km out and he can't see me as I put a .50 cal round through his chest, who is the better soldier? Similarly the F35 excels in versatility with its multi-role capabilities, sensor fusion, and network connectivity, while offering lower production costs, single engine simplicity, and global presence. These advantages make it a compelling choice for modern air forces, though the F-22 still boasts superior speed, maneuverability, and payload capacity for specific needs. The F-22's superiority in these areas however is quickly being replaced by advanced missiles that don't require a pilot at all, if not already.

I personally think they should go to all the member and design an aircraft the pilots want. I'm not saying its bad to other nations. I just don't think it could take an F22. Which I could be wrong. I wonder if they ever ran against each other? I think we could have put a little extra money towards building a 6th generation aircraft.
