    • @rlm4471
      @rlm4471 5 месяцев назад +5

      He did some UCI XC races in Europe earlier in his career. He said that it didn't go well for him. Keegan is an awesome rider, but the best riders in the world are not showing up to win the Lifetime Grand Prix races. They are all busy racing in Europe. That could certainly change as US gravel continues to grow, but for now Keegan is kind of a big fish in a small pond.
      What is maybe most impressive about Keegan is his ability to avoid mechanical problems. There are a handful of riders who could show up to these races and blow his doors off in terms of power, but half of them would probably struggle with mechanical problems, whereas Keegan hasn't flatted or had a major mechanical issue during a race in years.

The sad reality is that, if a bunch of the top World Tour riders ever show up at a US gravel race, the top US gravel specialists couldn't win. At UCI Gravel Worlds 2023, Keegan was outsprinted for 4th by 43-year-old Alejandro Valverde.

      @@rlm4471 Valverde is known for having a great sprint. Keegan also burned a ton of matches reconnecting with the group at Worlds after a crash. As respected as Keegan is, still don't think he gets the credit he deserves. His ability to put the power down at altitude is world class, and I don't think we've seen the best of him on the world stage yet. (World Cups are a completely differently beast and different training btw - don't think that's his ideal format)

    I love this series. I really do. And I love the athletes, the races and all the beautiful people who created this. And that's why this makes me a bit sad:
    To me, the sound and music of the production is just so over the top with its non-stop intensity. It's exhausting to watch. I mean it's just incessantly epic and hardcore, even when athletes are giving interviews about their difficult situations or when we're just trying to follow the pack on the initial parts of the course. Am I the only one who feels this way? Does everything have to be either utterly dramatic drums and strings or crescendoing inspirational piano pieces? It's like the audio actually ends up being distracting and takes away from how dramatic and inspirational what we are witnessing actually is. It creates sort of an empty sense of constant pump and hype that's just impossible to keep up over the course of the episodes. Instead, I end up a bit apathetic.
