Having the best version of this song, above legends like Grossman, Rudinger and Diepold is crazy... This version is beyond perfect, a combination of a profesional studio drummer on the timing and dynamics precision, and a profesional live drummer for the intensity, and the hard playing.
There's something awesome, in a hard to explain kind of way, in the fact that there is no single best musician, drummer or otherwise. I have nothing but utmost respect for both Hannes and Sebastian, they absolutely slay behind the kit, but each in his respective manner. I'd say Hannes invested more skill points in straight up metal, for example his blasts are relentless, while Sebastian took the wacko-progressive approach, his work with Panzerballett is mindboggling. And one way or the other, this goes for any big name you can come up with. The way I see it, every musician contributes something entirely unique and impossible to duplicate. Yeah, sorry, just felt like pouring my heart out, inspired in part by this awesome performance by Sebastian.
An honour to witness Sebastian. Love David DIepold’s take on this track also. Both versions are stylistically different whilst managing to sound almost identical. Masters of their craft. Edit : I dig Rudi but he was handed his hat on this cover by Sebastian and David.
Pff that footwork at 1:50 is insane. Caught me by surprise since it isn't in the original. Great touch! Makes the guitar riff feel really heavy and pop out.
I wouldn't call it perfect, because the issue with only using fingers is that the blasts are weaker. Hannes uses a hybrid technique that allows him to have more power, which is why his blasts are much louder than Sebastian's. It is harder to develop than Finger Control though.
Imo a terrible blast technique, because the sound of the snare just fucking fades, you can barely hear it. For example John Longstreth actually gets sound out of his blasts and remains stable even though he also uses wrists. Just watch the Meinl cymbals video where he plays "All things dead".
DiePixelkrieger I never had a problem with Alex’s cover, but it seemed lacking to me. I think I still prefer the hannes grossmann playhthrough, but the video quality on that video kinda sucks...
Austin Burcham wild! that’s an intense one... like the rest of their discography. 😅 i’m confident you could nail it though! looking forward to seeing it if you ever decide to go for it again
I’ve never found this style of music aesthetically pleasing, but I have a lot of respect for the amount of work it requires to play such a physically demanding part with such precision.
Sebastian is a very jazzy drummer as compared to Hannes. Love both but Sebastian a bit more. Was disappointed when Hannes left Obscura but Sebastian's work in Panzerballett changed my mind.
Been following Mr. Lanser's work since 2010, always being in awe. An amazing musician with top notch musicality and technique! P.s. Omg, that break in 3:40
Amazing playing man! Somewhat off topic: I'll never understand why all these professionally produced YT drumming vids are rarely uploaded at 60fps! I wanna be able to actually see those blast beats being performed.
Ok ok guys pretty amazing, but all of you have to remember.. He does not do the 16ths on the hihat while doing 16th triplets on the bassdrum........................
but you know that he could do this if he wanted to?^^ I think he learned the old Obscura stuff by hearing because Hannes Grossmann didn't transcript them.
David’s is so clean, but I prefer Sebastian’s version. His double bass runs in that middle section are to die for. I’ve heard it but haven’t seen Hannes play this.

1:49 - 1:58 this double bass was just perfect!

Very simple.
An honour to witness Sebastian. Love David DIepold’s take on this track also. Both versions are stylistically different whilst managing to sound almost identical. Masters of their craft.

1:05 - 1:12 perfect blast beat technique
That left hand - perfectly stable, only using fingers...almost unnatural.
Feel in love with this band in 2009, in rehab. Metal saves lives.

Of course you’re talking about the legend Sebastian lanser.
Flying Finger Technique

Sebastian is such an under-rated player. He's incredible!
I always thought Alex´ rendition was perfect but i even found more nuances in here...amazing.
I wonder who disliked this :/
DiePixelkrieger
I never had a problem with Alex’s cover, but it seemed lacking to me.

what a pleasure to watch someone show a skill this well. great drummer!
Definitely he has his own style of playing and I love it..can watch this dude for hours.
Sebastian is the man! I tried to cover a Panzerballett song once... didn't work out too well lol
Austin Burcham what i wanna know is... which song?
Austin Burcham could you transcribe the fill at 3:40?
Zehrfunk!
Austin Burcham wild! that’s an intense one... like the rest of their discography. 😅 i’m confident you could nail it though! looking forward to seeing it if you ever decide to go for it again
i don't think that's necessarily gone, only that different forms of music call for different approaches
I’ve never found this style of music aesthetically pleasing, but I have a lot of respect for the amount of work it requires to play such a physically demanding part with such precision.
Wow incredible masterclass ! elite human skills the power of dedication!
One of the best, most diverse and technical drummers in the scene at the moment!
Sebastian is brilliant. That fill at 3:40 is so tasty.
He didn't write the parts though.
@@BurnTheNuance No, I know, but if I'm not mistaken, the fill I was taking about is different from the recorded one.
Basically just wrote the same comment only to scroll down and see yours lol. Deleted mine :)
That fill does things for me.
BurnTheNuance go listen to deathcore
One of the tightest modern metal drummers no doubt!
Sebastian is a phenomenal drummer - among the very best in the genre(s) he has played in!
I really enjoy the heavy metal drummers you feature. Thank you!
Complete professional. Sebastian is incredible.
Ooof that fill at 3:40 literally melted my face
The way he is playing these open hand blast beats is never going to fail to amaze me.
Cool Idea : Open 3 Windows, with RUclips, search for hannes and Sebastian playthrough and Rudinger's cover, try to sync the 3 videos together, Enjoy !
The world needs more Sebastian Lanser...
Amazing drummer, amazing work behind his playing!.
amazing drumming and amazing person.good job Sebastian...thank you!
Love the sound of that snare!
Sebastian or Hannes... doesn't matter at all. Both are BEASTS.
Guess 90% of us don't come close to this level of drumming.
Just enjoy
Everybody here talking about the cover, I'm still 100% for Hannes. He's laid the path for so many to follow.
This is good but watching Hannes play it (especially on the music video) is the best.
Sebastian is a very jazzy drummer as compared to Hannes. Love both but Sebastian a bit more. Was disappointed when Hannes left Obscura but Sebastian's work in Panzerballett changed my mind.
The way Sebastian plays the doubles at the 1:42 mark is a million times better than anyone that has played this song before. His chops are so clean.
I always thought no one else could play this song like Hannes, but this guy played it even a little better
After the blastbeat part, he do the 16ths triplet while hannes do straight 16ths, it's a common mistake
This guy is killer! Love how that Byzance Heavy Hammered Ride tracks.
Oh man, thanks for this video. Made my week for sure. Cheers from Uruguay
This is their 'easiest' song just so we're all aware
Incarnated too!
@@lambertazur1667 Word. ‘Incarnated’ is much simpler than this.
Noospheres is pretty tame compared to Anticosmic if you ask me
Eh, Ocean Gateways?
God DAMN that fill at 1:03 is TASTY
Quintuplets madness, love that
Love you man. Spot on. I wish I was younger.
A-m-a-z-i-n-g drumming !!!
Those Classics Custom's sound really great :)
I swear this dude has the best drum sound in extreme metal. And cymbals, of course 😉
i could watch sebastian play all day
He's got that huge stage to himself..And He's Owning it !!!
Madre mía. Me encanta como tocas...en febrero te veré en madrid(España)...
Despite of being a song recorded by Hannes Grossmann, Sebastian Lanser is a huge drummer!!!
Excelente que bueno!! Saludos desde Costa Rica
Genius!
That is accuracy at its finest.
More songs from "Diluvium" please!!!
I have yet to see a Meinl video where they mess up the mix. Sounds awesome no matter which drummer or genre!
I only clicked on this video because I saw my dream China the classics custom. Now I am a heavy metal drummer.
have 2 on my kit! Cant imagine not having them!
Incredible, amazing!
1:58 Da Ba Dee Eiffel 65
Lanser is my new favorite.
like we say in mexico, NO MAMES! those new fills are exquisite! outstading!
A machine! Would have liked to hear those splashes in the mix a bit higher
My favorite technical Death metal obscura
Damn!, you are a brilliant drummer dude \m/
Amazing drummer!
Regular drumming for this Hell Track by Obscura.
Amazing!!
Love this guy
When it comes to extreme metal drumming I find it hard to decide between Ken Bedene and this guy... Both are out of this world
And Kevin Paradis.... or Hannes Grossmann and so on... so many legends to choose between :O
Darren Cesca is no slouch either ... nor is David Diepold.
He may be the best of this style
This guys a machine
Very satisfying
Been following Mr. Lanser's work since 2010, always being in awe.
An amazing musician with top notch musicality and technique!
P.s. Omg, that break in 3:40
UnREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😲👍🏼
Wow wow wow INSANE!!!!!
Flawless.
Wow, sounds good!
Yeah 🤟💀👍
Awesome
Waiting for the day I'll be able to master fills like this 01:50 - 01:57
Hhaha dude true that..
@Institoris The waiting IS the practice.
But that is not an easy mission lol
Fernando Lima i feel like fills just like the one you mentioned are the grindiest
I agree. Fills like this sound amazing. Maybe double bass fills are the grindiest when drumming =)
classic song
like a supreme master
Masterful!!!!!
Amazing playing man! Somewhat off topic: I'll never understand why all these professionally produced YT drumming vids are rarely uploaded at 60fps! I wanna be able to actually see those blast beats being performed.
Yep, all the "teaching drumming" channels don't do 60 fps. ☹️
Unreasonably tight.
Excelente !!!!!
That was tight
How tall is this guy? Such technique...damn i wish i had grips like that
1:50 🤘🤘🤘
Insane
Ok ok guys pretty amazing, but all of you have to remember.. He does not do the 16ths on the hihat while doing 16th triplets on the bassdrum........................
but you know that he could do this if he wanted to?^^ I think he learned the old Obscura stuff by hearing because Hannes Grossmann didn't transcript them.
I know he could, but even to him that part is very difficult
he played much more difficult stuff with Panzerballett already ;)
Oh yes, thank you for remember me that, i have to listen it, i havent t.t
Ahaha, I hope that's a reference to Rudy's video where Hannes commented on the same thing.
Top !Sebastian in Great
Would love to see a comparison video of this track by Hannes, Sebastian and David!!! All three are great, but who does it best?
David’s is so clean, but I prefer Sebastian’s version. His double bass runs in that middle section are to die for. I’ve heard it but haven’t seen Hannes play this.
my inspirations
Bateria lindíssima!
Pretty good mix and drummer, but you need to turn the cymbals up in a cymbal video...just sayin
Muy bueno
Any idea about what snare he is using on this video?
Sebastián lanser, are you using tama star, or starclasssic?thank you.
does anyone know what kind of drum rack he has here?
I mean yes, those cymbals sound amazing.. but they would cost like 4000 in total
Cool solo♡ 3:39
Freakin’ killer!
1:50 - 1:59 😱
Máquina.
No foot cam?
why are the guitars louder than the cymbals? Are they Meinl guitars?
20" pure alloy crash got no love in this performance
Miss you hannes
LOL
Damn!!!
4:14 missing chinesse cymbal
yes, it matters.
I wonder how much does that drum kit cost.
