Gavin Harrison's drumming is very "high resolution"... As you look closer and closer, more and more detail emerges. Absolutely brilliant drummer.

Yes and as it is with most surgeons, they have no or hardly any emotion or feeling. He is a cold player and seems quite weak, and of course most drummer like this have insecurity complexes and always seem to have something to prove with all the fancy fills they try to fit in. It has nothing to do with the music but rather feeding their own Ego. Read my book, you'll find it in the brain entrainment column on Amazon. It's called The Radio Mind by Lawrence Mailbrook & Rob Chaser. It's very good and teaches all about Narcissistic types like GH.

Gavin said in another video "technique impresses him, but doesn't move him. His playing here moves you. Such grace and style.
Edit after 24 hours and watching this video several times. I'll start with I am not a drummer so bear with me. There are three distinct sections here, roughly put, the opening, the middle ambient section, and the closing. The opening is strong and pulls you into the song with a grooving hard beat. The ambient section is reminiscent of Phil Collins but way beyond Collins in phrasing. The mood set by the tone of his drums is other worldly. You could drop all the other instruments and never lose the song through out the middle section because his phrasing and tone is so melodic. Post ambient section he starts grooving, and what a fricken ride. There is so much going on but you never feel out of sync with him and the fills are incredibly creative, not a simple tom roll or such but massive snare and cymbal runs that float over the beat. This is so slick you need a cigarette and a shower after watching this. Seriously impressive on all levels.

Gavin Harrison produces amnesia. You can easily forget about past and present drummers in his genre. While you listen to this you don´t think or even remember Bonzo, Peart, Carey, Gadd, Porcaro, Moon etc. you name it. One makes silence and listens.
And then you click again to replay and replay again because you do not believe this is so f... good.

Every single drum hit and cymbal hit is exactly where it needs to be and serves a purpose. Simply mind blowing!

What blows my mind isn't as much the fact that he's able to do it, it's the fact that he makes it look so easy. Dennis Chambers is another prime example, as is Baard Kolstad from Leprous.... he's a power drummer that has such control, finesse and musicality that he uses the COMPLETE drumkit, and it's tuned impeccably. White Mist, like most Pineapple, is pretty unassuming, but Gavin's perfect percussion section for the track is what brings it alive. He does so many things that are lowkey and subtle, but are in fact plain difficult to do... especially with such EASE god damn Gavin you're the man

Not that there's a need to compare, but I find the control displayed here much more satisfying than Matt Garska's style of continually going as mental as he possibly can. This has greater longevity for the listener.

There is not just no need, there also is not a possibility to compare those two. What you would compare is maybe - we are generous - 10% of Gavins whole skillset with 100% of Matt Garska. Is Matt a good drummer? Yes, but Gavin is just sooooooo freaking far ahead of what Matt is capable off it's unreal.
