Thing is, that sort of warehouse life, where the cat is free to do its own thing and socialise only if it wants, is so much closer to a cat's natural social arrangement than living in a house.

My parents had a deli in Newark NJ during the 80s and 90s. We had a few cats. Carmen was our best cat. Believe it or not we had to get her fixed because somehow she kept on getting pregnant. Somehow walked in that store every night she got out to get hers.

I read somewhere that some cities are hiring cats to help lower the population of rodents. This also helps to control the cat population, meaning that they are spayed and neutered before hitting the streets. I don't know the minor details, but I would suggest that they wear a special collar to identify the hard working felines. With that being said, the cats should be compensated with food/water stations and yearly health checks. Perhaps maybe hire teenagers or the ederly to assist in fulfilling the needs of these 4-legged officers.

Why should society decide if cats should live or die? Unless there is a rabies problem cats should be allowed to live in the streets.

    • @pavarottiaardvark3431

Feral cat colonies DO carry disease, and not just rabies. They are also commonly inbred, and they present a danger to local wildlife. They are not a native species and they themselves often suffer. Neuter your cats.

@@jennyclark6183 No, most humans are not inbred. Most humans do not have offspring with their siblings. Feral cats suffer. Inbred kittens often have diseases and deformities. Feral cat mothers are often sick due to the constant breeding cycles, and many litters end up being abandoned. The best way to ensure that the small and vulnerable do not suffer is not to let feral cats breed uncontrollably.
