- Before Wild Birds Unlimited adopted Cam & Bobbie from CAWS rescue, they were at risk of rodents destroying their bird seed. These two cats now work to ward off any unwanted pests. Of course, they also don't mind the attention from staff and customers.
Did you know working cat programs do more than deter rodents and protect enclosed property. They also save cats with few placement options once they end up in shelters. A successful working cat program can help cities achieve no-kill status.

This is a wonderful program. i wish more businesses would entertain this idea of using a working cat. It would save more lives and help their business.

How rodents know the danger zone? Little mouses was running around in my apartment until i got a kitten, i haven't seen one since.
Great question! After one encounter with a predator or just smelling and sensing their presence is enough to deter unwanted rodents!

Generally just the scent of a cat in the environment will deter rodents.
" mouser" is a profession some cats earn a living in.
There’s a similar store in the High Park area of Toronto, Canada. It’s called The Birder’s Feed Store and sells great high quality feed, feeders and other bird related items. They too have a resident mouser. Great little employees who work just fun! And there’s all the love that is bestowed upon them as well! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

Rodents do indeed "know".
Even more efficient than the actual hunting is the fact that cats mark and patrol their territory constantly. Rodents smell the pheromones the felines leave all over their homes and look for a less lethal place to stay.
The cats may be chill with humans, but clearly they will suffer no rodents!! Loves me some working cats!
