Singing is a BIG part of education in Welsh schools. Anyone who went to school in Wales will know the word 'Eisteddfod' means many afternoons in the school hall singing in front of an hilariously angry headmaster and a plinky-plonk piano.
My uncle died the morning of this match at 46 without warning a true Welshman and rugby mad I like to think as my fellow countrymen sung that morning their voices carried my uncles soul to the gates of heaven ❤️ 🏴

I look forward to getting lost on O'Connell St before the game - as I try to pay homage to Tyrone's Dublin man, Flann O'Brien. I hope I'm able to remember the game and get back home. There's a 1st time for everything.
My wife and our two friends were in Dublin when Wales beat England. Loved the Irish, they remind me so much of us Welsh, such lovely people and they were right behind us when we played. Temple bar and the Guinness was awesome too lol
I'm a rugby fan from a non rugby country and THIS is exactly why I'm a supporter of Wales in rugby. It was a dream come true for me to see a 6 Nations game at the Principality and I still have goosebumps all over when I recall hearing the anthem live, sung by tens of thousands. This video brings back the memories. Now I don't understand a single word of that beautiful anthem, but I think I can see the message in the faces of the players. Those guys love their country and are proud of it. And despite the centuries of oppression, their language is still alive.
I'm Welsh, I come back to this video often... I try & avoid the one where Shane Williams plays his last international, mostly because I can't watch it without crying... They say we're not a proper country... this is my answer...

I watched this live and still remember thinking 'omg we're losing this'. Amazing how another county's anthem can properly bring me to tears. Truly jealous of your anthem. (from an England fan)
At the bronze match against New Zealand this year - 2019 in Japan - I was queuing in the gents when some loud drunks started singing the anthem - the dining grew louder and I turned to see who they were. It was four Japanese guys, word perfect in Welsh shirts, still bring a tear to my eye, wonderful welcoming people.
I'm English, born and raised in Shropshire. Wales is my second favourite country on earth. A beautiful country with fantastic people and by God they can't half belt out a tune.
It is kind of fitting that the first anthem ever to be sung before an international sporting event was this one (Wales vs New Zealand, Cardiff, 1905 - in response to the haka) and it is still the best! Cymru Am Byth!
Love to hear the instruments perform the short introduction and then fade out to let the wonderful Welsh voices do the talking. Absolutely perfect synchronisation and tempo here. The greatest anthem in the world. Best served acapella Cymru am byth!
I worked in a pub down the road from the stadium and the anthem filled the streets i could hear it behind the bar. Sensational feeling ill never forget.
Sends a shiver down my spine... and I'm English. If the matches were decided on singing alone Wales would be world champions forever. I believe we received a sound thrashing on this day.
I've seen a lot of sports in my time, this is hands down the loudest and most impressive anthem that I've ever heard in all of sports. Much respect from NZ.
The welsh bring so much passion to his anthem it gives me goosebumps that's from a proud Englishman as well FairPlay to the Welsh even in football Cardiff and Swansea are class
it is the best National Anthem in the world. Sung by a crowd like that, it should give many people who are not even Welsh, at minimum goosebumps. Tears are just as appropriate. Let's see who responds to this post from all over the world. Respect, in advance.
Came here after reading an article in The Guardian about the awfulness of God Save the King, to remind me of the better national anthems. I completely agree. Just watching this on RUclips brings on the goosebumbs and, yes, tears. God, that's good.
I don't speak Welsh but I want to learn this phonetically and then gradually start to piece it together. Such a beautiful anthem! Performed with such heart by my Welsh neighbours. Respect
I am an African-American man who had never heard "Land of My Fathers" sung before. A friend had recommended that I do so, saying that in the right setting hearing it sung would be an unforgettable experience. Having now done so, I understand a little more the great love the Welsh have for their native land and its history. Let me recommend to anyone who reads this that they listen to "Lift Every Voice and Sing" to understand something of the history of my people.
I am an Englishman from Essex, and yet, every time I hear this anthem I have a lump in my throat. It's one of the very Greatest National Anthems, deeply moving...
Clark Renney The lyrics are what get me the most. The name of the anthem (when translated) is "Land of my Fathers" and it doesn't honour a monarch, it speaks of the land and its people. I don't hate the monarchy, but I'd prefer to sing about our brave defenders and the land that I love rather than the people who live in great ivory towers. Cymru am byth
Not many atmospheres around the world give you goosebumps as much as this one. From start to finish. The welsh are so fanatical when it comes to their rugby. One of the best atmospheres in the world
My Uncle followed the 81 wallabies on tour from Australia and said one of the greatest moments in his life was being at Cardiff Arms Park with the Welsh crowd singing.
As an All Black supporter this is the greatest anthem in world rugby. I hope to travel to Wales and hear this prior to a Wales v NZ test match. My only regret is I'll never hear it sung at Cardiff Arms Park.

As a Welshman, every time I get to sing this is a privilege. It just rises and soars like nothing else. You just cannot hold back while singing this. It demands to be belted out, straight from the heart, as though you want god himself to hear you. We are so lucky to have this magnificent, epic, unstoppable piece of music for anthem.
I wasn't in the stadium that day but I was in Cardiff shopping and I could hear it from Inside St David's Shopping centre...i started welling up. CYMRU AM BYTH
I’m from NZ and was introduced to the Welsh anthem through watching the All Blacks playing Wales in rugby, in my opinion this is the best anthem in the world especially when sung at Cardiff and it brings tears to my eyes every time as when my Dad was alive he would always say that he wanted to experience this live at Cardiff, sadly now he’s gone so now I’ve added it to my bucket list and hopefully one day I can fulfill his wish 🇳🇿🏴🫶🏽
True story....the Welsh national anthem, 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau', is the first recorded instance of a national anthem sung before a sporting event. On Dec 16 1905, in response to the NZ Haka, before Wales played NZ in Cardiff, one of the Welsh players, Teddy Morgan, ran onto the pitch and encouraged his team mates to join in singing, after NZ had finished their Haka. From that day anthems were added before sports matches. So, as a welshman from Cardiff, I think we can lay claim to have the greatest sporting anthem! BTW, Wales won the match 3-0!
@BongGoku amazing, and it's true that it was the first 'anthem'. Now we couldn't imagine an international sports event without an anthem. Of course, England are stuck with 'God save the King', which is British, not even 'English' 😀
To be fair though our anthem is about our ancestors defending our land from the Romans (they never suppressed the native population), Anglo-Saxons (English) (Invasion), Normans (Vikings) (Invasion), English(could not suppress the native population), Irish (raids), Scottish (raids) and Vikings (raids) the first section of the song mentions "her brave warriors, fine patriots shed their blood for freedom". Granted, after a Welsh family got the throne of England (Henry Tudor) his son went against his fathers intentions of keeping England and Wales separate because he wanted central control. Its also about the natural beauty of Wales + it being home to musicians and bards in addition to the survival of the Welsh language.
@Florentine 193 Being Welsh I have to say my own anthem will always come first. But if God Save the Queen was replaced with Jerusalem for England as well as for Britain as a whole then I'd gladly sing it. I never sing God Save The Queen. The monarchy is nothing but a tourist attraction now and I'm not a royalist. And a national anthem should be about the country...not about a monarchy or one person. It's time that anthem was replaced. During sports events I'll always sing my anthem, Flower of Scotland and I would sing Jerusalem too.
General Zeave Not all the English are like that, my friend. I’m English but some of my all time favourite sportsmen are Welshmen - Wyn Davies and Ollie Burton - both ex Newcastle Utd. You have fine singers, beautiful scenery and some of the most welcoming and warm people around........... not to mention some cracking looking women. Lot to be admired about Wales, General, and your anthem tops it all off . I’ m not alone in my thoughts back here in England. Cheers and good luck.
As a Norwegian, this must be the best national anthem in the world, sung by a people who really know how to sing. The Vikings called Wales - Bretland - the wide country. Not sure the if width related to the width of Welsh culture.
A rough translation from the Welsh here: Dear England, If you think You can come here to Cardiff to Wales And win a Grand Slam On our patch Like it's just another game of rugby... We're terribly sorry But you are very much mistaken Regards, Wales
As an England fan back in 2013 I knew as soon as I heard this it wasn’t going to be our day. What an atmosphere, full of passion and patriotism, wonderful
As a Scot we have a no bad national anthem ourselves but there's something about the Welsh singing theirs just seems to add an extra something special. Pure class!
The moment I stood in Cardiff, I knew I had to take my children to watch a match here. I had tears in my eyes whilst hearing this magnificent anthem. Wales won with the last kick off the game vs Australia. Priceless memories. Best atmosphere I've have ever experienced. I'm 45 years old.

Hahahah! Long live your poets and singers!
Best served acapella
Cymru am byth!

What an atmosphere wales creates with his powerful anthem! Greetings from Argentina brothers🇦🇷

From an Englishman I can confidently say this is the best national anthem there is
I'm a Scot and I agree! :)
And we have the best flag😉
Coming back to remind myself what it was like before, can’t wait for it to be like this again, one day
I worked in a pub down the road from the stadium and the anthem filled the streets i could hear it behind the bar.
Greatest anthem.
Greatest singers.
God bless our Celtic cousins.
Cymru & Éire. 🇮🇪 🏴 😎👆
The welsh bring so much passion to his anthem it gives me goosebumps that's from a proud Englishman as well FairPlay to the Welsh even in football Cardiff and Swansea are class
+contee12345 espacially the Swansea ballboy against Chelsea showed some great fairplay
I'm English , Welsh mother. The Welsh have the best national anthem. I got the best mum x
andrea welsh dad
it is the best National Anthem in the world.

Respect
Respect to you for showing such grace..
+Raymond Macon From a Welshman thank you it means a lot
as a proud Scot, i can honestly sit here & say this is the greatest version of any national anthem I have ever heard. so much passion!!
Amy Macdonald signing The flower of Scotland beats this and that is coming from a Welshman.
Irishman but absolutely blown away by this anthem. Goosebumps each and every other time I watch it 🇮🇪🤝🏴
🏴🤝🇮🇪
I am an Englishman from Essex, and yet, every time I hear this anthem I have a lump in my throat. It's one of the very Greatest National Anthems, deeply moving...
Clark Renney The lyrics are what get me the most. The name of the anthem (when translated) is "Land of my Fathers" and it doesn't honour a monarch, it speaks of the land and its people. I don't hate the monarchy, but I'd prefer to sing about our brave defenders and the land that I love rather than the people who live in great ivory towers. Cymru am byth
See a doctor
that means a lot :) thanks, diolch
Not many atmospheres around the world give you goosebumps as much as this one. From start to finish. The welsh are so fanatical when it comes to their rugby. One of the best atmospheres in the world
It's a ' Religion ' 😁
We're easily the most passionate country in the world
Salute from New Zealand. Goosebumps🙌🏽🏴
My Uncle followed the 81 wallabies on tour from Australia and said one of the greatest moments in his life was being at Cardiff Arms Park with the Welsh crowd singing.
I can't stop listening to this.
A choir of 80 thousand singing to perfection. Life changing.
most welcome
Magnifique!
As an All Black supporter this is the greatest anthem in world rugby. I hope to travel to Wales and hear this prior to a Wales v NZ test match. My only regret is I'll never hear it sung at Cardiff Arms Park.
This is still the greatest video of an anthem being sung in all of sport
For a whole staium of people to harmoniously change tune for "Pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad" is astonishing! We are a nation of singers!
I'm English and with you. There is no place for disrespect to Wales and The Welsh, Ever
The greatest anthem ever and that's from a Scot. Respect to my Welsh cousins!

Diolch, assalamu alaikum 😊
One of the biggest dream I have is to go to the millenium just once in my life, to live this insanely emotional moment... and I'm french.
Provencal le Gaulois its a wonderful thing
I'm Welsh and now and again when I'm overloaded with college work I just listen to this. It is amazing to hear when you're there.
I was there for this moment and honestly I can't describe the feeling, the goosebumps I felt were like nothing I have before ❤️
Provencal le Gaulois it’s beautiful you can’t believe how loud it is

As a Welshman, every time I get to sing this is a privilege. It just rises and soars like nothing else. You just cannot hold back while singing this. It demands to be belted out, straight from the heart, as though you want god himself to hear you. We are so lucky to have this magnificent, epic, unstoppable piece of music for anthem.
You don't just hear the Welsh nation anthem you feel it ❤️🏴🏴
No other anthem will ever beat this. This has got to be the best one on youtube.
@@sunnyinsanya2 cheers thanks for that info I just learnt something new today 👍🏽
Did a family tree a few years back, found Im related to the long dead Father and Son that composed this. Makes me very proud.
@@BongGoku nice family history 🫶🏽
@BongGoku amazing, and it's true that it was the first 'anthem'. Now we couldn't imagine an international sports event without an anthem. Of course, England are stuck with 'God save the King', which is British, not even 'English' 😀
My mother was Welsh and this is one of the greatest anthems in the world. I'm English but this makes me shiver with emotion.
you are Welsh. x
Yep, you're Welsh. Be proud :-)
From an Englishman, this is simply the best national anthem in the world. Love and respect to our Welsh friends.
True...listen to the England dirge about Royals when there are homeless & want to vomit.
Respect, @First Last, Nive too see an english person not slagging us off😁
To be fair though our anthem is about our ancestors defending our land from the Romans (they never suppressed the native population), Anglo-Saxons (English) (Invasion), Normans (Vikings) (Invasion), English(could not suppress the native population), Irish (raids), Scottish (raids) and Vikings (raids) the first section of the song mentions "her brave warriors, fine patriots shed their blood for freedom".
The best national anthem... goos bumps. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 🙌🏻
As a Norwegian, this must be the best national anthem in the world, sung by a people who really know how to sing. The Vikings called Wales - Bretland - the wide country. Not sure the if width related to the width of Welsh culture.
Welsh people, I love this anthem, greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
Helo!
Respect from Wales. You are the toughest boxers in the world
A rough translation from the Welsh here:
Dear England,
If you think
You can come here
to Cardiff
to Wales
And win a Grand Slam
On our patch
Like it's just another game of rugby...
We're terribly sorry
But you are very much mistaken
Regards,
Wales
As an England fan back in 2013 I knew as soon as I heard this it wasn’t going to be our day. What an atmosphere, full of passion and patriotism, wonderful
Cannot imagine how proud a Welsh Rugby player must feel representing his or her Country after this. What in life, could better that? I'm a Scot.
As a proud Englishman i will admit this is the best Anthem on the Planet. It's amazing
JUST DRIVE Diolch!
I'm a proud Welsh man who counts his blessings everyday because I can say I live the Welsh way
