- Fantasmic is a Disney nighttime spectacular that performs every night at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park at Walt Disney World in Florida. On November 2, 2017 during the 8:30 showing of Fantasmic, a little "Disney fail" occurred when Rafiki's boat barge ran into the Disney character monkey barge during the Lion King Segment: a Fantasmic fail caught on camera. Also, John Smith didn't swing from the rope either this show. Other than that, it was a perfect performance of Fantasmic! Fantasmic originated and opened at Disneyland in 1992. After the success of Fantasmic at Disneyland, a second version opened at Disney Hollywood Studios (formerly known as Disney MGM Studios) in 1998! I have seen Fantasmic many, many times and have seen quite a few mishaps:
My personal favorite mishap was when The Little Mermaid barge came out with no one on it... or it may have not come out at all. I can't recall.
There were a few nights in a row where there was no fire during the dragon scene so it just seemed silly that Mickey was just spraying water across nothing.
There were many times that the water fountains or splashes were not working.
It's always sad when the dragon decides not to come out too. Disney does a great job at handling that, though!
I am always disappointed when the finger fireworks don't happen. That's what they advertise the most!
When the lifts don't work on the floor it's always strange but very well handled!
And OF COURSE my biggest fear was that Sorcerer Mickey would not appear at the top of the mountain. Thankfully this never happened when I saw the show but I have seen live streams and it's horrifying.
Fantasmic is my absolute favorite nighttime spectacular and I can't wait 'til I can see it again!
smooth395 You have seen it a lot! Those are some rare occurrences, but problems happen pretty frequently. There are tons of contingencies in place in case of problems and we can usually make changes on the fly. Glad you love the show!
The only time I saw a Fantasmic fail was 2 years ago in the beginning of November at Hollywood Studios. I wish I'd been able to record it, as it was a bit of a hoot. You know those spinning fireworks that pop up after the boat segment goes by? One was going off in front of me, but not spinning. Had I gotten a fastpass for Fantasmic, I'd've missed it, as it was in front of the non-fastpass areas.
The biggest fail is Disney World not getting the new updates that Disneyland got for their Fantasmic
I'm just happy Disney world doesn't have that section devoted to Pirates of a Caribbean...that scene is so boring now compared to when it was a Peter Pan segment.

Yes! That's the great thing about WDW most people have never been before and only will go once so you get even more reactions from all of the audiences.
It seems like Disney is trying to remove Stitch from the entire park or something because first the Great Escape closed and now he's not even on the Steamboat anymore.
Generic Name Stitch was relocated to the bottom where Mulan used to be. So not really lol

You sure? Stitch merchandise is everywhere in the park (and the Disney Store).. and he's still doing character greetings at that ride's location for now, and he's in parades.
Stitch is still everywhere, they closed the ride because it was horrible, not because of Stitch. His dining experience is one of the most popular and he meets now where the entrance to his ride is.
Sad to see him not be in front anymore...that was one of my favorite moments of fantasmic: seeing Stitch at the end, since there are no lilo and Stitch scenes shown during the entire performance.
Still to this day one of the best Disney creations of all time
I think the worst fantasmic fail is when Dopey falls off the boat and lands on Goofy!

It doesn’t matter on how many times I seen Fantasmic it still makes me cry with joy and happiness every time.
I saw Fantasmic for the first time a couple of years ago (even though we have been to Disney a ton). I cried it was so wonderful. I’m a woman in her 40’s. My 12 yr old niece thought I was a moron. Totally worth it.
May I say that i'm loving your channel. At first I didn't want to subscribe, because I thought that you would be a clickbaity and cringy joke type of channel, but no, you have a really good series, and I think you can grow a lot.
When I went to DW back in High School Fantasmic was one of the highlights. Really wish I could go back just to see Fantasmic again.
I love how the actors on the barge that got hit just went with it
One year i went to see the show and we waited for an hour but when it got to the lion king part the show was stopped for technical issues and we were led out. I wasn’t too happy

There's some flammable something spread on the water ahead of time. Forget the exact name, but I know there's at least one video here on youtube-or at least there used to be-that talked about the technical stuff behind Fantasmic.

Battle Shark when i was about to go on a lift in august, there was a problem before we even got on so the cast member told us all to move over to the other lift because the current one we were going on wasn't working. everyone on our lift was so glad we got switched and the technical difficulties stopped because on 3 we got i want you back and it was great!!! so i think if there are technical difficulties they are fixed quickly
I saw fantasmic last week and it was amazing!
That cherry picker dragon just looks so out of place with how low quality it is compared to the other stuff.

The biggest fail ever is Disney World's "fake" Fantasmic compared to the one and only, original, O.G., Rivers of America, Disneyland version of Fantasmic.
Happiest Place Chill, without Disney World some people could never go to Disney. Better than nothing in my opinion

When John Smith doesn’t fly and just does the salute it’s because he can’t see the light that’s giving him the all clear to fly. So he will just salute. It’s a safety precaution. Also, the boats bumping is a common thing because underneath them are real people that drive them and as you could imagine it’s hard to see under there with just a tiny gap to see out of. I used to work at fantasmic is Hollywood studios.

I thought the worst fail was when Murphy the dragon didn't function right. Imagine being Mickey and having to deal with a giant dragon who's not functioning looming over you!
Who is Murphy the Dragon?
The dragon is actually named Vivian at Hollywood Studios, after one of the original creators ex-wife. Murphy was at Disneyland until they updated it.

Manuel Macias Are you complains about the just the fountains ? And the seats? It’s all about the show, The one at Disneyland is way better than the one at Walt Disney World. Fantasmic is even at the main park at Disneyland, while at Walt Disney World it’s at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But I respect your opinion.

I went to Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios and we were at the the Mrs. Pots part in the clips when the show just stopped and canceled because of lightning in close proximity 😫 so we tried it again but the show didn’t start because of the rain

Stitch is now on the bottom where Mulan used to be. If you watch other videos after they do their dance rotation, you'll see him on the bottom next to the princesses

Emily Grace I don't know a ton about casting (not really my department) but from what i gather it is basically a general pool based on operational needs and seniority. Many people train in roles but you may or may not ever be cast in the show. Costume and scene changes happen quickly under the cover of darkness when the mist screens are up playing video segments. Any other questions, feel free to ask away!

Sometimes they omit certain stunts due to stage conditions. Last time I went, John Smith didn't swing on the rope because it was raining.

How does those boats work? Are there tracks under water?
The big Steamboat in the finale is on a track. The barges however are not, they are driven by technicians that are seated underneath and have very limited vision through heavy mesh and the lights on the sides.

Are you sleeping when watching this? sorry, i'm used so chocked. The only two was Rafiki's barge was going to fast for some reason so it bumped in to every barge that was before it and then it was john smith that did not jump over the cliff with a rope to the stairs on the other side. The rest of the video as he said was used nice pictures of fantasmic

There are officially 4 mice. Traditional at the beginning and end also does red pants/tomato butt Mickey during the Jafar snake scene. Brave Little Tailor, Steamboat and The Sorceror are all different performers. They do other things in the show before they end up in their big mouse role.

Are the boats controlled digitally vs. a track system? I mean, I'm sure that saves money on part and maintenance costs, but it can lead to more issues like this and it would also mean they're hackable.
+Nick Colman the boats at WDW are actually driven by a driver beneath the barge’s surface. So I think in this instance it was just a poor calculation of speed and position

Why not "Frozen"? There's a mountain scene in the real movie in fact. Besides, what's Disney (or in this case, a new Fantasmic!) without Frozen? The show's gotta be updated with better technology.
Hope they never add Frozen anything to this show...there's enough Frozen in the parks already...a ride, a whole pavilion, two shows, 3 or 4 meet and greets, a desert party, ect.
Frankly, I'd like this show to remain about the classics...maybe change the mountain scene to something to do with fantasia and night on bald mountain instead, since the mountain top is literally perfect for that part of the show.
Inuranchan, Sorry, but they can replace the Friendship Faire with a One Man's Dream 2.0 show (similar to OMDII at TDL) and move the Frozen gang to Mickey's Most Merriest Celebration and the Frozen Sing-Along with something else. So yeah, Frozen can play a good major part in Fantasmic! as well as Moana, Stitch, TaleSpin, and DuckTales.
I think we both know those shows aren't going anywhere for a long time. The last castle show was literally there for 10 years. And the sing along is ALWAYS packed, even though it's just a single along and not even a real show. It's been there for two years that way. So why should they add Frozen to this show when it has/will have two for many years to come?
