      Based on their answer, I don't think they actually did. It sounds like they just outsourced the work, more or less forgot about it, and then forced it out to meet the deadline, instead of delaying it to make sure it was good

    Nodes used to work that way. The further up the field the more they produced and were destroyed if area was lost. Also as a medic I would love to be able to drag people to a safe place to revive.

      Never understood why they changed that with the nodes, it was a really good feature and made it so they were more likely to be taken down and put back up during the game. Now at the start of the game my squad just supply cycles and builds a set right at spawn which is a totally skill and risk free way to do it. I guess they wanted to make it easier because people don't build them enough as is, but it was cool to be able to get higher return for a riskier placement.

    In Post Scriptum, there is a mortar class that can fire HE & Smoke with a range between 200-800m. With a possible reduction in sprint speed in future patches, this will suit the slower game pace.
    There are a lot of things Team 17 can learn & take straight from PS.

      @@MrNajibrazak beware that depends on where you are playing from, it is almost impossible to find well populated servers. Even in HLL, I spoke with a guy from Scandinavia and he said that it is impossible to find an English speaking server in the whole of Europe to play on. He had to play on Australian servers with over 200 pings.

      It's a start but words=/=actions. This could easily be survival PR spin, personally I don't trust them until we actually see something tangible.

    Team 17 NEEDS to play similar games, like Squad, and post scriptum, and borrow things that make the other game great, and improve what they already have. The way squad handles the value of your life is better, because you value medics. The way squad handles supplies and ammo is better. I like the way Squad and post Scriptum handles fobs more too.

    What intrigued me about HLL was the Engineer class; By the time Polish faction arrives I hope they further expand the variety for the engineers because I really want to coordinate with my team.

    Thank you for compiling the responses to the AMA.I saw it a couple days ago but didn't want to scroll through the thread looking for answers.
    I'm glad they've started adressing the issues but what worries me is their response to almost all the questions concerning content. They're "looking into it". Ah yes that doesn't tell us much. It's a "we've heard your suggestions and will maybe implement some down the line but most will turn out impossible to implement". They're keeping their options open with a lot of these. I'd have appreciated it a lot more if they'd said "This is a good idea, we've already considered this and are currently gathering more information. This is (approximately) what information/plans we have on this one topic. We're hoping to finish a certain stage of this by this time (e.g. historical accuracy, British forces: "we acknowledge the issues with historical accuracies. We are currently researching tanks for the different maps. We're planning to get started on creating the models, etc by the end of august. Furthermore we've contacted the royal armouries museum and are working with them to better understand the infantry loadouts. We're planning to rearrange them and PTE these changes in a PTE before U14.3.")

    Level locking certain classes makes sense when you already have 30+ players per team. Then again, lots of times, infantry squads are all locked and there is no other option but to create new ones because they are not accepting others (this is another problem I see a lot btw)

      An idea I had was having a limited time where you can lock squads to get your friends in, but then it forces it unlocked so people can join

      @@AkilanNarayanaswamy I like it. Lock squads for the first 55 minutes, then all squads are unloacked for the rest of the game. I really like this one.

      Sometimes you’re running your squad for a specific purpose and randoms mess that up. It’s not that much of a problem, I only really see 2-3 squads doing it within a game.

      I used to love this game and out of my group of friends who played stuck around the longest but the constant issues and with how every update seems to break the game even more I've had to stop playing too. Game used to be amazing, how did this happen

    Genuinely shocked that a game dev team isn’t just burying their head in the sand and doubling down on their BS. Happy to see T17 at least acknowledge their screw ups with the community and are working to try and fix it. Gives hope for the future of the game :)

      I think the release of that awful, half assed trailer was really a ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ moment, as they couldn’t just hide behind words and corporate speak anymore. Because even a casual observer could tell that something was VERY wrong inside the dev team to let that trailer out the door at a big event.
      I’m sure Team 17 not happy with it and got the whole team restructured to the state it’s in now.

    1. Fix the bugs (loudout bug, weapon not firing on first click bug, grenade throwing bug)
    2. Fix every map stuttering and lagging now.
    3. Make the outfit change automatic so when you switch map you're already wearing snow outfit instead of having to manually change every time.
    4. Make pings/markers customizable, like transparency/different shapes and smaller sizes, so they don't constantly cover where you're aiming.
    5. Hitboxes on objects are still really bad, to the point where you're shooting a good 2 feet away from something you're next too and still hitting it.
    6. Fix british weapons, sight zeroing/bipods etc.
    7. Fix LOD
    8. If you want to increase the speed, make it 5% faster, not 20%. To me that is a good compromise, and I think most people wouldn't even notice.
    These are my major problems with the game at the moment, apart from some of the maps being complete server killers, but it's not like they're just going to remove maps.

    The modders would fix this game in no time, they should let the community help them, i got this game 8 months ago i already have 400 hours and join the easy clan, is an amazing game with amazing people

      With an in-game store planned, it will be difficult to allow modders to jump in... few games allow modders to participate in the cosmetics/maps creation (most are from Valve).

    I think they should remove the speed increase, keep the dive but increase cooldown, and add a 'dash' feature where you run with the increased speed for ~10 seconds

    Generally agreed with your points and thank you for bringing this forward! I didn't hear about this Q&A.
    I would like to note that in the future you might want to consider not having voice sound from the gameplay clips in the background while you talk. I personally found it slightly annoying :D

    Im glad they have turned around and listened to the community. It sounds like they want to keep the historical accuracy of the war in the game which make me very happy. I do wish they would bring back final stand for the commander and the old system of nodes. I really dont want them messing with the artillery. Artillery is a huge asset to the commander because its a cheap way to put a lot of shells on target if you can coordinate it with other players. I would like to see a mortar squad similar to recon.

    Very positive that they are listening to the community. If this was a battlefield game they would have just pushed hard on the faults. I haven’t played HLL for a few months but if they slow the general pace to more tactical shooter level I will install again.

    Thanks for relaying this IH. A couple issues. It seems rather redundant to do a PTE to show, what most of us old players, knew worked to begin with. From my experience the grenade bug and loadout bug only occurs in semi-full to full servers....so that angle is redundant also. So really the PTE only served 2 purposes: 1) New players curious as to the old systems. Im really not sure what feedback they expect from those players. 2) Old players to test the stability and hit reg problems. Which I personally saw problems there. Either way most people just came in....tested run, prone, threw a few grenades and respawned a few times and POOF they were gone. So other then seeing stability and standard performance.....there was really no point. PTE is to test new ideas or changes........not for a response to something you screwed up and are trying to see if people liked the old way when its obvious.
    The AMA: All the questions were pretty good questions. Unfortunately almost all of them were long term down the road goal topics. I did see one stability/performance question. There should have been at least 3 more questions on that alone. Being that the game was fine before they touched it and now it has performance issues. How willing are they to just rollback and start fresh? Get out all the tangled mess they put in there. Because they can revert run and prone but if the game still runs like sh!t, hit reg problems are present and bad calculation for rounds(ex. high powered rifle not one shotting at short range)......thats not going to cut it.

    I play medic a lot and I find it perfectly fine as it is. If you find it quicker to redeploy rather than wait for a medic, your medics aren't doing their job right.
    It's 90% about positioning as a medic, if you do it right, and if there's a few of you, it's glorious.

      I only respawn if there isn’t a medic really nearby, heading my way. Otherwise it really is quicker to just respawn at the nearest OP or Garry.

      @@IronHeartGamingYT Yeah I understand, but I just think the problem (like a lot in HLL) is people not communicating/playing the role correctly rather than any balance issue. I can't blame infantry for not waiting because most medics don't medic; if I can't get to you I'd be telling you to go ahead and redeploy myself.
      Put it this way, I rarely see medics communicating with squadmates to secure a downed team mate for them to heal safely, medics are too often an afterthought and left to run around without much thought from body to body.
      Anyway, good video thanks for keeping us updated it's very appreciated.

      Agreed. If I die and see a medic nearby I’ll call out and if I see them running further away or not communicating I’ll just respawn unless I know the nearest spawn is miles away.

      trouble is people respawn when iam standing right ontop of them as a medic, there should be some sort of punishment if you respawn too fast. battlebit has a slightly longer respawn time for instance.

    I really love this game and there aren’t many like it. I don’t really mind if it’s not 100% historically accurate but I play on series s and I have few optimization issues and my game runs very smoothly. This game is very fun and cool and I’m glad that the developers are listening to their fans. I don’t see myself personally stopping playing the game because I have faith in the developers

    Something they havent touched on is implementing actual ultrawide support. In it's current state, anyone using ultrawide gets a way zoomed in image, to the point where it feels better to play in standard 16:9 with black bars. The game simply takes a 16:9 image and zooms it to "fill" the monitor, resulting in a much smaller FoV in the Y-axis and viewmodels looking too close to the camera.

    The only issue I see with locking SL to a certain Rank, will be players who want to test out stuff in an empty server. Commander should be locked to Rank 50 minimum.
    It's funny though, as after playing the PTE, and filling out their questionnaire at the end of it, it asked for 3 things I would like to see for HLL.
    Of course I put 6 things in there, but bringing back old node meta was one. Medic rework was another, removal of artillery or make it a commander ability that's unlocked for a certain period, so commander can always have control over munitions resources. Bringing back the 1 minute buffer on cap times to prevent overextending and steam rolling, and bring back full damage for unscoped rifles, or at a minimum unscoped rifles are a 1 hit kill at 300m. Last but not super crazy important, make garrison distances be 150m instead of 200m.
    Sounds like this was a good AMA, where the only one Max ever did, was 12 hours, of answering the same 6 questions, which was about new content and never once addressing the bugs.

      I’m for bipod being for the mg class.
      All other classes still use the non bipod version.
      Same should be with the Americans

    What would be an interesting way to deal with artillery would be to make it a Commander ability. Bring mortars into the game by creating a "weapons squad" Have 3 mortarmen, 1 MG, 1 support, 1 Medic, and of course 1 squad leader.

    Giving nodes the ability to resupply ammunition for vehicles and people would be huge.
    I think artillery is actually pretty good already and the commander already has a very powerful artillery ability. That being said, I don't think it would hurt to either make the munition's cost a lot higher or have it so that you can only use artillery if you are in an artillery squad.
    Something I'm surprised wasn't brought up was why isn't there a command squad? Maybe a three man or four man unit with two engineers and a spotter

    Russians should get a DShK, not a Maxim IMO. It would also be nice if they gave the Soviets the PPS-43 as an alternative to the PPSh as well as a shorter range but more mobile flamethrower

    The British sidearm the Webley revolver is not accurate. The top break action only ejects a fired round, whereas it should eject all 6 rounds everytime the top break is opened. The ejector would not be able to differentiate between fired and unfired rounds. You can test this by firing 1 round and reloading. You will see it doesn’t make sense.

    have respawn at garri provide full amo, medic revive brings current amo and OP respawn provide half ammo. will help medics reviving rather than respawning

    I think the new team came in, thinking they knew what was best for the game, despite most of them likely never have worked on a game of this scale or complexity before. They got careless, and it all blew up in their faces while destroying trust in the community they had inherited in record time. Somebody at corporate rose a stink, reminding them that this game was their largest purchase by far, HALF their market value as a company, and not blowing up their expensive investment. Management probably got reshuffled, and now their primary focus is to make nice with their player base, and win their trust again.

      Yeah they know they f’d up and need fix up and look sharp or their chances of making loads of money from the HLL franchise will take a massive hit. The truth is they just need to remember this simple formula; Make HLL great, less buggy, while maintaining its core principles as a teamwork-based hardcore shooter with a decent amount of historical accuracy and voilà, they will make loads of money from the franchises success.

    I'm not playing HLL for now, will wait two or three weeks after for the next update, to see what youtubers say about it, if it's good I may play again, I just can't waste my time playing this game if it's not good, it's sad but that's where I am with HLL at this point

    One thing i think that Recon needs is access to a class with a satchel charge for a spotter. I've lost track of the times I've been able to sneak up on unsupported armor but not been able to do anything to it aside from calling it out.

      This would ruin tanking. They have enough of a hard time staying alive without recon squad leaders blowing them up miles from the front line

      Recon are there to spot the tanks, not destroy them. Calling the location out is their role. Giving them the ability to destroy the tanks way behind enemy lines would take away from the team work aspect and make them a solo powerhouse.

    Would be interested in seeing if they add more commonwealth factions either as cosmetic or fleshed out like. The Ghurkas, Aussies and NewZealanders and the many African troops that served or even the Chinese nationalist army within the Pacific

    It can be hard to tell in HLL because it is a difficult game but there is a hacker problem, I think adding mod support would make that worse.

    The flamethrower range feels very short. It's like a powerful melee weapon rather than. Short range weapon.

    Pretty good AMA overall, with a lot of positive answers from the devs. I will admit, I was losing faith fast. And I should be clear, I am still unsure of whether these changes will come in a timely fashion. T17 needs to be very, very careful. If there's another botched update I think they'll start to kill their game quickly.

    I’m so glad that they’re looking into boosting the flamethrower. Increasing its range should be priority 1 I think as it currently stands I think it’s lack of range really hinders it. I believe it’s max range is something like 23 meters? Getting it up to 30 meters would be a massive improvement and make it all the more deadly in close engagements as it should be. A suppression mechanic added to the flames would also be ideal to counteract that annoying situation where you’re actively shooting flames at the enemy only to get domed before the flames reach them because there isn’t anything that hinders the targets ability to do that

    As someone who plays Medic in HLL and Squad. I can say that playing as a Medic is more meaningful in Squad. By reviving players, you're preventing the spawn tickets from depleting and helping your team to stay in the fight longer.
    HLL doesn't have a ticket system, if they want to make Medics more meaningful, they should introduce extra benefits to revive players such as a small boost in movement temporary or reduce blured vision when being supressed. Medics do get extra xp for reviving and have reduced blue vision when getting supressed but thats all it has to offer. Not very purposeful.

    Hope they speed up the bolt on the Lee Enfield. You can see vids on youtube of people firing 10 shots in 6/7 secs. That would certainly compete with the G43

      The G43, FG42 and Stg44 shouldn’t even be on the El Alamein map because they weren’t produced at that time of the war (late 1942). Also the Brits and Germans didn’t develop AT launchers until 1943 so both armies should be using AT rifles and AT guns in the desert. But yes the bolt action speed of the Lee Enfield could be sped up a bit to give the British a bit more of a boost. They also need the Thompson M1928 (stick and drum mag variant)

    Bugfixes and any way to make and keep the game smooth, is far more important compared to new content.
    Speaking of the BREN I agree about the bipod as it's far from the MG's the other factions have. The bren is big and takes a lot of your sight so I disagree that it's too MG heavy in this state.

    Good video. Just a friendly criticism, the b roll sometimes has people talking in the background and it’s slightly too loud in my opinion. It’s a little distracting while trying to hear the info you’re discussing.

      I tried to lower the volume of the background videos enough to where it doesn’t interfere with my voiceover. Guess I’ll need to lower it a bit more but I didn’t want to have a silent video with my voice. A bit of background gameplay noise is needed.

    6:50 when modding is allowed it would be much harder to play since you have to wait for all the download of new maps, objects etc, while we already have to queue up. And also there will be maps like de_dust or orange room and some features from like quake or unreal added to the game would definately spoil the whole thing
    What this game needs ASAP is the tutorial. Most of newbies don't want to read and study first they just wanna play. I see lot of users don't even understand what garrisons and OPs are.

      People would play on the modded maps/gamemodes they wanted not quake or other stuff they weren’t interested in. Modders could create amazing new maps, new cosmetics, new weapons, new vehicles that were historically accurate.

    I will say, it has it's flaws, but how they communicate with their community is what keeps me playing. They're one of the few devs that actually care what their payerbase thinks, and it will be a great game. Let's not forget, this all started with just a kickstarter's funding. IT already came a long way

    Love this game but can't play. I live in minnesota and the ping is terrible. It usually starts out ok but as the game plays my ping gets higher. Such a disappointment

    "I don't know why they outsourced the trailer instead of using the previous team" - Probably so the previous team could code gameplay changes. I'm really happy to see the pivot here by Team 17. The fanbase also needs to consider that they just spent millions on the intellectual property of the game and only have 392 employees. Of those employees, I have no idea how many are actual devs. Divide the wish list in the vid by 392 and know there will be less employees before there are more unless the game turns a profit, which I bet it hasn't done. Team17 is probably way in the red and can't hire more people. Also, outsourcing is a classic play used not to accelerate release (though that's the goal) of something but rather to reduce the overhead costs of the product. Outsourcing is often way cheaper in the long run than hiring more people, because once a sprint is done there may not be the same amount of work remaining and letting people go is much harder than hiring.
    Biz. It's all biz. The entire snafu wreaks to high heaven of a company that had to make hasty decisions to meet the requirements of a product manager and executive leadership team that put a line in the sand on not missing a single deadline. The goals weren't realistic and there weren't nearly enough people to finish the task list, and someone who probably spent no time with the quality team going over major issues remaining decided the minimum viable product (remember... nothing is ever totally perfect, so at some point it gets released imperfectly) was achieved.
    The devs implied but didn't outright say a few things that if you've been in middle management at a corporation you probably picked up on:
    1. They didn't review most of the changes in a quality review whatsoever other than making sure they didn't crash the game or prevent a player from playing at all, or make a massively known bug worse.
    2. They released the trailer basically without watching it or showing it to someone who was familiar with the prior trailers and content of this one.
    3. They're going to spend a lot more time and punt the roadmap, but probably won't hire anyone to develop it faster, so expect them to take a total 180 on releasing things well instead of releasing them on time. Probably a 180 back to Black Matter speeds for a while.

    I asked about the game I never played the game btw but I love history when I learned that North Africa most of the weapons would not even be in that battle
    Example hitler would never give his cutting edge weapons to a campaign he didn’t care about like the FG-42 or the G43 which didn’t even been made when the North African campaign happened it was made when it ended also no Italian guns which is man annoyed me

    I rlly hope this game thrives cause it’s one of the better games on console that focus on realism for WW2 games.Also why were ppl so bummed out for trailer 15 like yeah it was shit but enough for review bomb?Like maybe it’s just cause I’m on console and I know it’s different on pc( yeah I know u guys get more stuff I wish we got on ps5 ngl)

      The terrible trailer came after two lacklustre updates, including a British faction which was pretty much broken and now needs a complete rework. It also came along with untested speed increases and a dive to prone mechanic which caused more problems than it solved. So it wasn’t just the trailer which got people mad. That being said I didn’t engage in any review bombing, HLL is still a great game in my eyes and I just hope Team17 can get things right going forward.

    I don't really like the idea of level locking positions, although I think that's just my personal principles. I think in a game based on communication it should also be up to experienced players to nurture newer players and teach them how things work. If you've never done SL before it probably won't make a huge difference if you're level 10 or 100, you've never SL before either way.
    Medics I feel would be more viable if - like the British medics - they weren't ammunition starved, and you could probably collapse both load-outs into one to make them more useful. Being able to hold your own in a fight and replenish the medical supplies of friendlies for when they break off from you is helpful. I also think reintroducing the manpower impact of reviving friendlies would make them more impactful.
    I think the Bren should have a Bipod, the British were a very static, rifle and firepower orientated army. I'd much prefer each faction to have their own flavour and characteristics that fight in certain ways opposed to all the factions being crammed into a balanced meta.

      @@IronHeartGamingYT I may be misremembering but i'm fairly sure every respawn cost manpower, but revives didn't, so medics picking people up saved resources the commander could use elsewhere, as in a real meatgrind fight like offensives, you'd churn through that manpower REALLY quickly.

      You might be right, I can’t remember that. I just know HLL has never had a ticket system like Post Scriptum. Where if you run out of tickets (manpower) the game is over, except the final strongpoint in offensive which can go into ‘overtime’ where manpower is depleted with every death.

      @@j.b.7133 I would be good with all artillery/mortar type abilities being Commander-only.
      A mobile mortar team would be a nightmare in pretty much every public match. I know I could figure out a way to deal with them, but I simply don’t trust the level 13 Recon SL + his level 7 Sniper to operate effectively behind enemy lines. So much of this game is reliant on experience…being able to predict garrison positions, etc. makes a MASSIVE difference.
      I remember being pretty lost when I first started playing - honestly had almost no idea where the enemies could even spawn lol, but after about 950 hours, it’s basically automatic.

      Mortar teams should have much shorter range than arty, so easier to find and neutralise. They should be fixed deployables which cost supplies to build so you can’t easily shoot and scoot. The ammo for mortar rounds should perhaps also cost supplies. For example 10 supplies = 1 explosive mortar round, so a single support player drop a 50 supply crate could provide enough ammo for 5 rounds of mortar fire. This wouldn’t be too overpowered as the mortar explosion should be less powerful than a commander arty barrage, or the current arty explosion. Using supplies as ammo would also keep munitions resource free for commander abilities.

Have you ever set up an AT gun in amazing spot with a loader and a SL pinging targets which allowed you to devastate enemy targets? It is a pretty epic feeling, well organised squads could do the same with mortars. This wouldn't be too op because of the supply cost of ammo, meaning it was only really available in short bursts. It would then be up to the enemy team to find and neutralise the mortar position just like they would need to neutralise an AT gun.

      They are currently testing the removal of the speed increase and dive to prone on the PTE (test) servers. Based on feedback they will make the changes to speed/dive to prone in the next patch (14.2).

    Honestly, I'm satisfiyed. It seems that when Team17 picked up the project there were a bunch of deadlines and upper ranking people in the company would not give time to the developers. So they made a random crap just to fit in the deadlines. I think they also underestimated the community, and now they saw that there is actually a lot of people that plays and love the game and they seem to have paid attention to it. They look really committed to it, let's hope they actually translate this into action

We will have to wait and see how things actually develop but fair play to Team17 for answering questions and admitting their mistakes, I mean they shouldn’t have made them in the first place but at least they aren’t ignoring the elephant in the room.

    Good job with the video, as always!
    But to be honest, all we heard from them is "y-yeah we are like totally working on it" and "yeah we are working on fixing stuff, but it will take time", so I'm not convinced they have anything solid for the next patch. We don't even know when it will drop (or at least I missed that info). For now they present nothing to inspire my confidence for their work, and admitting that Brits are leftovers after Black Matter? So what? They bought the game over a year ago and in a year they delivered already started projects? Not calibrated aims? Stuttering on the new maps? Shitty British guns? That the year worth of work? Damn, if it was me at my job, I would be kicked out in seconds, if I delivered such shit after so much time.
    If they screw up again on the next patch, not only old players will leave, but now new players who got used to faster running and dolphin dives will get frustrated and they will start to complain to rise it again, because they don't know why it was decreased in the first place. Either they fix it at least some problems with gameplay - new stuttering, running, british aims - or it's another dead milsim.

      The previous developers stated before that the maps were too small for flyable planes, I doubt Team17 would change that.

    As we get on up there in rank they should give us certain perks like swapping out weapon combos. Here lately I have mainly been running recon. The spotter classes are a mixed bag between the factions. Since the MP40 has been nerfed down to air soft gun status why not allow the other kit to have the STG instead of the MP40. My reasoning here is with the flare kit you have to use the KAR vs the carbine on the Americans and the SVT with the Russians. Also why does two of the factions have dmr's and the others dont. Why not give the US a M1 garand sniper rifle? Commander should be unlocked at a certain rank with a specific amount of game hours as squad lead. They should boost the post game xp points for the number of OP s placed. There should be a feature to demote the squad lead after a certain amount of requests for a OP and also there should be a feature that would disband a squad within a certain amount of time if no one takes over squad leads. I cant tell you how many times I have jumped into to servers where there will be 6 squads and only 2 squad leads. Thats when you know its time to find another server because your about to get your teeth kicked in.

    THEY NEED TO LET US DROP SUPPLIES FROM THE TRUCK WITHIN THE LAST 2 SQUARES. IT SUCKS BEING AT YOUR LAST OBJECTIVE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO RE-ENFORCE IT PROPERLY CAUSE YOU CAN DROP SUPPLIES WITHIN THE 2 SQUARES THE DAMN POINT IS IN.

      I think that exists to stop players just spamming supply crates in the HQ to gain XP. You get a decent amount of XP for dropping crates so players would just circle around the HQ drop supplies, re-supply and drop more over and over again
