When The Terminator came out we thought of it as a monster chasing people around horror movie. It was in the horror section of the local video rental store as well.
I found the T-800 perfectly frightening in the first movie. It was covered in human skin, could emulate humans - barely. It was also an unstoppable killing machine. _“It Doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!”_ That's what Kyle Reese said. But by the time he said that the T-800 already demonstrated that. Perhaps most incredibly to me as a kid which further illustrated the point was the "oh no he didn't" police station scene. Police today are seldom respected, admired, and not particularly feared. But in the 1980s they were at least feared. For the average citizen the police staton was as safe as Fort Knox. The T-800 simply walking through the place mowing all the cops down with impunity like a first person shooter gamer in God mode proved a shocker. T2 was entertaining but the idea of a Liquid Metal Terminator, despite the special effects, just didn't quite have the same believability.
No you're wrong. The terminator that started a family worked in sales and was never around for his son until one Christmas where he had to find a TurboMan doll. Then his son grew up to be darth vader
I didnt even think of "exterminator" but when you said it it reminded me of this pest extermination service here that has their mascot as a cross of dukenukem and the terminator.
For mech suits I would think they put the important things on the head/chest because humans (who would control it) would try and instinctively try and protect it since it is like themself
Another reason that Terminators know field surgery techniques is to maintain their organic flesh. If their living components bleed out and die, then their ability to blend in with humans is compromised. Of course, this was before every T800 was just Arnold.
Are we just gonna ignore that the T-800 can specifically detect the Nicotine level of tobacco smoke in the air? Specifically Nicotine, not other substances. This thing was designed to track down smokers.
I started having nightmares after seeing terminator back when it came out, I was very young and being chased by the t800 was terrifying. I've actually had similar nightmares over the years even up until recently, it was so ominous, it was super dark apocalyptic looking sky net was live and the machines were out murdering people and destroying everything, all I could do is run and run and try to hide but I knew it was inevitable I would be confronted with something evil ...
My favorite thing about Wiki Weekends was that almost every single article you’ve done a video on gets taken down, presumably because the Fact Fiend exposure generates a huge spike in traffic to the page, presumably causing server load and/or massive edit wars.
The reason why critical components are typically placed in the chest or skull of humanoid robots is because it's still ultimately much easier to armour those areas well.
Ten ton seems a bit much, or it could probably have survived the hydraulic press. Especially given the terminator in the first movie struggled to kill a man in his underpants.
@@Here_is_Waldo The guy in the first movie just caught the T-800 off guard. Remember T-800's can literally rip T-600's(super strong metal) with their bare hands in Salvation.
Couple of valid reasons for why robot "vital organs" are in the same places as with humans. With the T-800, the chest is the biggest, thickest piece of the body. If your robot is restricted to a humanoid shape as the T-800s are for stealth and infiltration, then the most well-protected place for something like a nuclear power source is the chest. The computer chip is tiny and so if the rest of the head is basically solid, that's pretty safe in the centre too, but you probably wouldn't want to put it near the nuclear power source for overheating purposes. Plus, you want your computer chip to be near your sensory input devices like cameras, radar, etc (which should be in the eyes if the robot wants to mimic humans because if you're going to have something that looks like an eye anyway and has a hole for light to get in through, then that's the perfect place to hide a camera) to process data as quickly as possible, and also as equidistant from your appendages as possible to maximise coordination. Also, the warmest place in the body? The chest and head. The warmest part of a terminator? I'm willing to bet it's the nuclear power source (chest) and the computer brain (head), so they'll more easily blend in with humans on thermal imaging this way. And as for Jaeger's, the head is also the thing humans will most instinctively protect, and the most important thing to keep safe in order to survive, so it makes sense to put the pilots there, since their instincts will drive them to protect that head and therefore themselves more than any other part of the Jaeger.
A lot of the reasons for the T-800, T-850, T-888 difference is to explain why the endoskeletons produced by for different series/movies are not identical if they are “mass produced”. Also as the model 101 was explained away after T-2 as being the shape of the living tissue, and that there were other variant numbers of the T-800 that did not have Arnold’s appearance.
The story about Arnold grabbing the twin sounds cute until you point out that he’s wearing the terminator costume, a guy that big dressed in leather, snatching you up, would make anyone shit their pants
I don't have any sources to actually back this up, it's just an observation but I always assumed that the pilots were placed in the head of the Jaegers in Pacific Rim to simulate being the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The Jaegers seem to have a synthetic nervous system that's structured in a similar way to a human's which is why when the Jaeger gets it's arm ripped off, the pilots are put in pain. Because of that, I figured that the pilots were in the Jaeger's head to act as the hemispheres of the brain and they couldn't put them anywhere else as it's 'nervous system' is structured like a human one. Also, excellent video as always! It is always good to get new content from this channel, it often makes my day so thank you.
Yeah, it’s in one of the books too, where it’s explained that they take live humans to study them, and to also harvest stem cells from the in order to create human skin and certain organs, from memory.
Keeping the important bits in skull and chest makes sense. The unit as a whole can keep functioning when less important parts are damaged and the skull is pretty much a solid piece of armor with few weaknesses.
My head canon is that Skynet secretly won, and whole time travel war was just an experiment on humans, in order to know them better. Because Skynet's final goal is to create a peaceful human world, eventually (at any cost). You can throw in stuff, like humans somehow can create alternative realities during time travel, and machines cannot, so experimenting with it makes sense for Skynet. Complete knowledge of humans is necessary for completing its goals.
Hey, batteries in processors in place of heart and brain make sense for a very simple reason: It has space. You can't put these components in the ass, cause of ass space being taken entirely by servomotors.
Worst part about killing John in Dark Fate is that it was apparently Cameron’s idea to do so, even after he stated how much he hated how Hicks and Newt, two fan favorite characters, were unceremoniously killed off in Alien 3’s opening. A bit hypocritical if I do say so myself
You forget that in terminator genisis that that terminator sent back in time was heavily filled with the info of all the terminators that they had been putting together due to converging timeline weirdness
#1: the "gun" used to disable the "original" T-800 in Genisys actually used specialized rounds to punch through the chassis. Basically, it's not exactly something you'd find in a gun store. They were also prepared and were waiting for the T-800 to show up. #2: the shotgun "Pops" used was to basically just goad it into attacking him. Kinda like throwing rocks at a bear or bull. #3: The T-850 in Rise of the Machines had its armour chassis further reinforced and hardened, especially against Resistance plasma weaponry. Basically, if the original T-800 was a light tank, that thing was a heavy tank.
Actually there is a scene with Seven of Nine where she lists the best way to kill various species based on their weaknesses, so it makes sense to give a Terminator knowledge of human anatomy.
I want to see the storyline where John Connor in the future captures a T1000 and enables its “learn” function and it helps humanity defeat skynet once and for all
On the genesis note the shotgun didn’t actually damage the endoskeleton of the t800 but rather the terminator was knocked back by the recoil of the blast before being taken out by a sniper rifle
"Is it really that difficult to kill a human?" It can be. It can also be really easy. The fact that Skynet doesn't employ any sort of gas, chemical weapons, or poisons shows that it has no capacity for creativity. a creative machine would just use silent drones that shoot fentanyl darts at people, or explode into a cloud of fentanyl powder. Imagine a machine the size of a hand grenade swoops down from the sky, and as it's about 10 feet over the heads of its victims, it explodes into a cloud of highly poisonous powder, or identifies exposed flesh and shoots a dart with a powerful toxin into that flesh.
The reason forthe T-888 was due to where there was issues with what they were allowed to use in the series,it is supposed to have some upgrades though. The deleted scene isn't technically deleted, it just depends on the version you are watching, some broadcasters would opt to cut it and the scene where the T-1000 stabs the Security guard visibly through the eye socket to make it more TV friendly. The aging thing does also make sense even though the Movie is a bit iffy, Machines genuinely do degrade over time (think like an old Car) and being that theres no way to service it it will start getting problems, the Skin can completely die off too which happens in SCC with one that had been incased in a wall.
maybe in the future, the only photos on a soldier that Skynet could find online were screenshots from the movie Commando and that's why every t-800 looks like that. . .
One great detail regarding the T-800 in the first movie is that it never actually touches Sarah Connor while functional, as if it did, it would have killed her, because that's how damn scary these things are. Ironically, the only time it actually touches her in the film is after it's been destroyed by the Hydraulic Press.
The heart and brain are put in the rib cage and skull because they are the areas with the most protection. The place with the most protection in a robot would also probably be in the chest and skull. They are technically still weak points but it would be better than being located in the leg lmao.
The original Gundam timeliness is the only series that actually addresses the natural weakness thing. Char moved his cockpit out of the chest to the head which is usually just filled with cameras and radar.
"Death rendered in chrome" is how James Cameron described the Terminator so it is only natural that it would be terrifying. There is even a blink and you'll miss it shot in Terminator Salvation where the prototype t-800 resembles the Grim Reaper for a split-second. o_O Plus the t1000 is a more advanced model so it makes sense that it is more efficient and has upgraded capabilities regarding communicating with humans. One thing that I noticed is that the 800 series tends to be bikers and other ruffians, especially in the movies and the Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles show. T1000s are police, in T2 and in Genisys. The T1001 in TSCC was a CEO, which really surprised me.And the Rev-9 was undercover as a law enforcement officer, albeit as a border patrol agent. I didn't watch Dark Fate either, I was too turned off by the twist in the beginning. Overall a good video.

Cameron’s fever dream started with the endoskeleton rising out fire, and when he woke up he sketched it, and the design was kept
The reason I love it and it's scary is not the 'oh my god that looks so scary' it's the 'HOLY SHIT THIS FUCKING ROBOT SKELETON WILL NOT STOP CHASING ME JESUS CHRIST, MY GOD IT JUST WONT DIE SOMEONE HELP ME'
Summer Glau from the Sarah Connor Chronicles was the most badass terminator . That show was better than all the movies after T-2
The show had no business being as good as it was. I still remember the scene with the rival unit mixing fake flesh in a bathtub, coming out as a horrible monster mash face, then trimming off the edges and sculpting a new identity.
What about the terminator then went dormant for 40/50 years, had a woman, a job, got married etc etc.
& I'm not talking about Carl.😏
@@kirbyfanprime The scene I will never forget is when Cameron fought the other female Terminator in the elevator. She broke all her arms and legs, snapped her neck and twister her up like a fucking pretzel. Summer Glau is a hardcore Hottie.
It was bloody good, summer wasn't believable but did a great job
Read "Terminator Salvation: The Final Battle", John talks to skynet and mentions how Skynet wanted to end all human life but made itself (terminators) imitate life
I first saw terminator when I was 4, being babysat at friends of my parents house. The scene of the exoskeleton rising out of the exploded truck burned into my fragile mind. But the trauma turned into a fascination and love of electronics.
I was 8 when I saw it in the theater, and that was the only scene that bothered me.
I build robots now.
It's kinda scary that they know how to do field surgery. It means if they are trying to take a captive alive they can keep them alive against their will.
I took a break from watching fact fiend for a month. Now I remember why I binge so much of this British mans videos
Low power terminator: excuse him, he's a little dim
"The T-800 is actually the stuff of nightmares"
"Ay yes this floor here is made of floor."
"Imagine you have never met Arnold Schwarzenegger, and he sneaks up behind you in full terminator outfit and tries to strangle you"
I would need years of therapy
Never stop producing adrenaline
Her twin was brought in for part of the steel mill sequence when the t1000 is malfunctioning. It was imitating Sara Connor when it finds John its feet melt into the floor giving it away, but they cut this scene as well
When The Terminator came out we thought of it as a monster chasing people around horror movie. It was in the horror section of the local video rental store as well.
T2: “I have detailed files”.
The 80's imagination is way ahead of it's time when you think about it. Now it's all stagnated.
As an eighties nostalgist I’d agree. But if you remove my nostalgia, nothing compares to the atmospheric ideas of that era.
i think studios are way too conservative now and the budgets are too big, they can't take any big risks
@@charlesissleepy they dont want to take risks. its more about how much money the movie will make. sadly thats all that matters these days.
Lucas:“We’re talking about the term-in-a-uh”
I loved the fact that they went out of their way to explaine why the T800 (played by and older Arnie)has Robo Arthritis
The T-600's were the Terminators that were in the 4th movie. Kyle Reese fought one when he saved the little girl.
I like to think that robocop has that too
"No one rip your juuls right now, were in terminator territory."
*le gasp* A man with a tiny mustache!?
These guys can make anything and I’ll watch it without question.
I love terminator, I also love how strong they are. can lift 10 tons with ease and sometimes has chainsaws in it's arm
Speaking of strength, one of the very few good things about Genisys was when he held the whole bus on the bridge
@@Here_is_Waldo The T800 in the first movie is different from the rest, in that it is the weakest version.
Also, when it was crushed by the hydraulic press, it was technically only half a terminator lol
The story about Arnold grabbing the twin sounds cute until you point out that he’s wearing the terminator costume, a guy that big dressed in leather, snatching you up, would make anyone shit their pants
can't wait to watch another video about films ive never watched purely because this channel is so interesting and funny
YOU'VE NEVER SEEN TERMINATOR?!?!?!?
@@krenotenze nope :/
@@lethesadie2224 good flick! Still good even today!
(I think this was in a comic) If I recall, they said that the skin and teeth were REAL. It's why they were rounding up humans in Terminator Salvation.
good god that actually makes it more creepy than synthetic materials
Yeah, it’s in one of the books too, where it’s explained that they take live humans to study them, and to also harvest stem cells from the in order to create human skin and certain organs, from memory.
I'd love to have another Terminator horror movie (and yes, the first one was a horror movie).
Keeping the important bits in skull and chest makes sense. The unit as a whole can keep functioning when less important parts are damaged and the skull is pretty much a solid piece of armor with few weaknesses.
Head canon: Skynet sent a T800 into the past to be Arnald S.
Technically the 800 series incorporates super conductors, which means it can operate off ambient energy, like a fire or sun light.
They put the important parts in the head and the chest for the same reason Evolution put our important parts there
Maximum protection
Hey, batteries in processors in place of heart and brain make sense for a very simple reason: It has space. You can't put these components in the ass, cause of ass space being taken entirely by servomotors.
im loving the new green screen, real true to character.
Love the "EX-TERMINATOR" joke LMMFAO 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣
The dark troopers give the same vibe as the T-800, terrifying and unfeeling with glowing red eyes
10:46 that's giving the phrase "get your head out of your arse" a whole new meaning O_o
Worst part about killing John in Dark Fate is that it was apparently Cameron’s idea to do so, even after he stated how much he hated how Hicks and Newt, two fan favorite characters, were unceremoniously killed off in Alien 3’s opening. A bit hypocritical if I do say so myself
I love how gundam handles the weak points of the machines. Sensors are in the head but the pilot is in the waist or stomach.
Wiki Weekends is a great way to start my Saturdays.
I want to see the storyline where John Connor in the future captures a T1000 and enables its “learn” function and it helps humanity defeat skynet once and for all
Having the power source in the chest makes sense. Extra room for armor. Equal power distribution. But the brain can be anywhere, Like the ass.
On the genesis note the shotgun didn’t actually damage the endoskeleton of the t800 but rather the terminator was knocked back by the recoil of the blast before being taken out by a sniper rifle
I miss the drinking videos.
Unless that’s some Jamison flavored coffee right there.
"Is it really that difficult to kill a human?"
It can be.
I love how the t-800 knows how to safe human life but only knows it because it makes it easier to kill someone
If only they knew how strong women were in the 80s, we could have had a hand to hand combat scene with Sarah and the T800.
I can't tell if this is a joke or not
I would like to request the cement wall and duct tape get greenscreened in once Fact Fiend returns to the studio
Yay, sweet video, congrats on the new green screen, love it!
Congrats you guys are super funny y'all have gained yourself a new subscriber
Lucas had it right. I'm never going to see Dark Fate.
maybe in the future, the only photos on a soldier that Skynet could find online were screenshots from the movie Commando and that's why every t-800 looks like that. . .
But, I bet he sells a LOT of drapes. I mean, if a Terminator told me to buy drapes, I'd f'kin buy drapes!! I'd be too scared not to!
Whoever mixed the volume for this video made it entirely too quiet.
One great detail regarding the T-800 in the first movie is that it never actually touches Sarah Connor while functional, as if it did, it would have killed her, because that's how damn scary these things are. Ironically, the only time it actually touches her in the film is after it's been destroyed by the Hydraulic Press.
I thought that the drapes was supposed to be like...
"It's curtains for you..."
The heart and brain are put in the rib cage and skull because they are the areas with the most protection. The place with the most protection in a robot would also probably be in the chest and skull. They are technically still weak points but it would be better than being located in the leg lmao.
The deleted scene in T2 actually is part of the director’s cut, which is used everywhere.
Just the cinematic cut misses that scene.
