I was kind of hoping for just a drunk Karl sitting in a recliner, someone says something about an unrelated subject, and Karl links it to one fact of Robocop and continues on for an hour
I love that Robocop's one weakness is you can just run away from him and then he has to be just another fool in a car... which IS how they take him down in the first movie. He's like a tank he needs backup. They missed a trick there they could have had a cool reloading mechanism in his leg where it holds out a fresh magazine for him to jam the gun down on after taking the old one out and sticking it in his left leg like it's a wastebasket (Robocop doesn't litter). I love that he's using the equivalent of a rigged glock like the Joker.
I was playing RoboCop Rogue City today and yesterday, and the story about Paul Verhoeven with his wife and the script is so close to one of the lines from a quest in a VHS store, with Pickles. He says - and I'm paraphrasing "You know that movie was never suposed to be made, it's only because the director's wife found it in the bin..." - and I thought it was a throwaway line, until I heard it again...
Fun fact of my own, My grandfather helped design and build the Robotic arms in the Frank Miller scene in Robocop 2! They were genuine pieces of lab equipment, with their crowning achievement (second to being in Robocop of course) being sent aboard the International Space Station. Not a particularly important aspect of the scene, but still cool enough to mention.
We’ve got the upcoming Robocop game, and they got the original actor to reprise his role, like Mortal Kombat 11 did, so I have high hopes that it could take the third film’s place as the end of the original trilogy.
Takes place in-between 2&3 but not canon, but it should, aside from the obvious graphical bugs, the game is fucking mental, best game I've played in 24' so far... It's gonna be knocked down to 2nd when space marine 2 drops but for now, rogue city is my game
Karl you need to know, the videos “Robocop listens to music when fighting crime” and “The hidden depth of Robocop” are both private. I don’t know if you meant to do this, or if it was an accident a long time ago and you never noticed
We set those videos to private after they received copyright strikes, which I completely forgot about when I linked them here. Hopefully we can reupload them at some point. Apologies. -Brad

"WRONG." (in my best RoboCop voice) The original theatrical cut of "RoboCop" did show the back of Murphy's head getting blown out. What they cut out was the beginning of that shot, where we see the face of the "Murphy" dummy head rise into frame, then the camera tracks around to the back of his head. All of the was removed from the original cut, and goes straight to the head-shot. I know this because I saw the movie in the theaters in 1987, and I still have my VHS copy.
As much as the first movie is superior, i have a soft spot for the second one. The team behind it knew they couldn't live up to the first movie & leaned into the satire of that. Hence all the Robcop 2 protoypes being unmitigated failures. I also think the inclusion of the child gangster that gets killed by Cain was a deliberate jibe at how toy companies sold Robocop merch to kids on the success of the first movie, despite it's graphic violence. I also just googled the release date & relized i'd of been 8 or 9 when i first saw it. Being young & only exposed to the special effects of the time made it a lot more engaging than it would be thorugh a modern eye, Though Cain's Robo design was terriflyingly cool.
You guys just joking about robocop and making up scenarios had me crying lmao thats exactly how my friends and I go off on tangents it's our kind of humor
RoboCop listening to music is the funniest thing I heard in a while. My Headcanon is now that he is sometimes standing around and bopping his head slowly the music and of course RoboCop doing the Robot Dance
A scene that always sticks in my mind is from the opening of RoboCop 3, where one guy says "Cyborgs eat bullets" and the other guy is just like "Not today they don't", and that just sorta clears up the first guy's legitimate concern. I don't know if it sticks coz t's so good, or coz it's so bad
Me having never watched robocop or robocop videos on RUclips deciding to click on the robocop supercut has been thoroughly entertaining. Especially repeatedly being told "if you like fact fiend you like robocop"
everyone mokcs 3 round burst wepons with mags not being divisable by 3 but its to let you know that you hit the bottom of your mag and lock the bolt back for reloading
I think another reason why Alex's Murphy doesn't kill himself is because he isn't a man coming to terms with him being a robot, he is a robot coming to terms that he is actually a man
So a fact about me is i have watched robocop but it was when i was far to young i think i was about 6,7,8 ish and it was the dead of the night and the hole thing with the melting man still live in my head rent free
in the reboot they could have made his armor/body have it be change able so you can change his color as needed or say it can change color so he can go around shiny silver or black for stealth/intimidation
peter weller wasn't even in robocop so the fact that movie even exist is the reason why i ignored that movie even back then when i was a kid. i was like 5 when those movies was out, i even saw the short lived mediocre animated series of robocop i rather watch that over robocop 3. i love that peter weller is coming back as robocop for the upcoming robocop video game. i can't freakin wait.
If there’s one thing, one concrete lesson that I learned from this video, it would have to be that Karl’s house has at least one picture of some kind of Robocop art
I actually don't mind the reboot as long as I don't think of it as a RoboCop movie. I know that's a very flaccid defense, but it does have some good scenes and good filmmaking and Joel Kinnaman did a really excellent job acting with just his face in a lot of scenes.
I'm pretty sure that Bob Norton, the character who was the one in charge of Robocop's construction mentions a few times that Robocop is a cyborg. I guess the character went with the rule of cool because "Cyborgcop" doesn't have the same ring to it
Robo does reload in the first movie. In the steel mill with Lewis as he says "Get the car" He also reloads in Robocop 2 during the nuke raid at the beggining of the movie. The Auto 9 was modified with custom cams to have a working 7 round burst. 2 trigger pulls empty the weapon irl.
To Robocop shilling with adds plastered all over him. Lol. I had wait till I stopped crying to dry my eyes to see to be able to type this shit. Funniest thing on RUclips
Im not sure how remarkable it is that people in a profession that requires a lot of self control got some catharsis watching a fictionalized version of themselves beating the crap out of a PoS. Its important to remember plenty of criminals do heinous things and cops are required to stay professional.
I was a huge fan of this movie when I was a kid. I collected all the toys, it was great. I had a glow in the dark one. They used to fight might swamp thing figures.
I believe by accepted definition, robocop is an Android. A cyborg would be a living being fitted with (normally substantial) mechanical augments. Where as an Android is a robot designed to appear as a human, especially if steps are taken to artificially augment them to a human appearance. As they admit to doing in the second film.
Nope, he's a cyborg, a cyborg is living flesh fused with robotic parts. Part of Murphy's brain, part of his spinal column and some of his digestive tract are meshed with the robotic body.
People think the first Robocop is a criticism of free market capitalism when it is in fact a critique of what idiots call capitalism which is really crony capitalism or more realistically socialism as it actually exists in the real world not as it is described in books that are basically fairy tales. OCP has power because it is essentially part of the government... Dick Jones says so "Shit we practically are the military!" Police are a social program, Alex isn't screwed over by a corporation he is screwed over by the government who sell him to a corporation that they have hired to run a social program. Socialism isn't hospitals for sick kids, it is simply: redistribution of wealth (taxes), will of the people (elected officials), seizing the means of production (regulatory capture). The military and police are run by the government (will of the people), they are paid for with taxes (redistribution of wealth), and they are the only ones allowed to do that job, (seized means of production). Robocop is a critique of modern socialism. Robocop 2 is a commentary on the fact that the media after Robocop actively targeted children. Hence the movie and the bad guy are called litterally Robocop 2. The movie is a critique of violence sold to kids. The Hobbs character is the kid that represents all kids, Hobbs was a philosopher whose ideas centered around the surrender to authority. Cain is a character that killed his brother, in this case the brother is the original Robocop movie and ideas. I mean shit, they even say it when Murphy tries to shoot Hobbs and he says "Can't shoot a kid can you fucker" and minutes later he is killed by Cain who can target kids. The failed Robocop 2s are all the attempts to Remake the violent original that were all squashed in favour of cartoons and toys... Robocop 3... there ain't never been been no Robocop 3!
I was way way too young to watch robocop when I first did. Between Alex Murphy getting blasted and the melting man, I have some psychological scarring😂
Sadly I have never seen robocop and won't be able to (probably) because I only have it on VHS and my VHS doesn't work I want to tho Anyone know if it's on netflix or hulu?
The new Robocop FPS game showed game reviewers don’t understand Robocop, because they complained that Robocop is a slow walking tank that can auto aim and highlight all enemies and only has his auto 9, other weapons are only temporary and are dropped when depleted after picking it up. It looks like classic Robocop, it sounds like classic Robocop, and Peter seller voices Robocop. It may turn out to be not perfect, but I’m buying it because it’s Robocop.
Rob Bottin was an Art Director with a team working under him, the concept designs on paper were done by Miles Tevez (who also worked on the IRON MAN costume, & I believe some of the Bat man costumes) my only critisisms of ROBOCOP are that it was too short, they could have squeezed another...10 minutes, & that it could have used that time to be more Corporate, between this & TRADING PLACES, They are the best Corporate social commenting films of the 80s decade, that hit the feel of that soulless decade best.
