    I like to think that every terminator movie set after T2 is nothing but a set of fever dreams of the half dead Miles Dyson as he waits to detonate in his lab. It's just a man worrying that his death is meaningless so he has dreams about this future that make less and less sense as he dies.

    Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles had one episode where they explain that the time travel isn't perfect with one Terminator ending up in the 1800s and having to wait in hiding for it's target. If this can happen then there may be even more timelines where a Terminator ends up in the wrong time...perhaps drastically affecting history 🤔

    I always thought when Terminator went down in T2 and woke back up it was just an emergency backup power, like a temporary spare battery. It even says something like rerouting power on screen when it cuts to his "Termo-vision" during that scene.

    • @madladdie7069
      @madladdie7069 Год назад +14

      The "rerouting" made me think it's still using the same power source and that it just has the direct power line severed. It had to spend time repurposing other circuitry to use that way and that's why it went offline.

    Temperature differentials would explain why a nearby extreme heat source would give them energy, but being inside of the heat source would destroy them. Being next to a heat source would cause a temperature differential, and as nature wants to equalize those temperatures, the transfer of heat from the hot source to the cold source creates a potential for energy collection. Inside the heat source however, everything would just become hot and eventually melt down into its base components.

    • @wormwoodbecomedelphinus4131
      @wormwoodbecomedelphinus4131 Год назад +1

      I get it but Terninator never had the most solid of bases.
      The endoskeleton could be treated so that it doesn't burn like steel. So, the endoskeleton "on fire" would be running hot but not burning alive.
      T-800's are made to fight in the war, so it is resistant to high temperatures. It can resist fire, since it's not as hot as plasma - but molten metal would overwhelm it.

    • @mandi8345
      @mandi8345 Год назад +1

      The effect this references is the thermoelectric effect or Seebeck effect, which is how TEC or Peltier devices electrically transfer heat making one side hot and the other cold. There are even fans for wood burning stoves that use a Peltier to power fans from the hot metal of the stove body to push the heat around the room.
      Side note: TECs are incredibly inefficient, any technology claiming to harness Peltier devices for cooling, heating, or power, especially any that claim to be "green" or "new and improved" are 99.999% BS. Though, depending on the application, they are a viable way of harvesting power from a temperature gradient provided you dont need much instantaneous current/voltage.

      T3 wasn’t all that bad honestly. A last ditch effort to take out John Connor before the war starts is a decent plot point. "The Terminator Runs Faster When It's On Fire" - i'd expect it's quite motivating in that way! Richard Prior once said "when you're running down the street, and you're on fire, people get out of your way!"
    Connor should've died in T2, when Robert Patrick caught him in the parking lot they should've rewritten the film, and started on a continuous plot line for the next 2 or 3 films. Instead it's a random mess of "what're we gonna do this time?".

      It wasn’t a bad movie by any standards. It would have been considerably better if they hadn’t made the main character a bot, but just left him human, and then we could have had a proper post judgement/apocalypse narrative, (potentially a trilogy,) arc that could have fleshed out John Conner as a general and leader of men (as opposed to a child or bit cameo or badly designed villain ), and given Skynet many and various units much more room and screen time to develop. We could also have been introduced to various resistance fighters etc. it’s a crying shame that the writers just had to go down the tired old “convert enemy, now good, now we win” trope bollocks. It’s just lazy writing at a certain point.

      The premise for Salvation was excellent. It was the execution that was the issue. Mostly, Sam Whorthington’s character was lame. The fact that a lot of it was during the day time despite T1 and T2 gives us this idea that everything is done at night because of the threat being so much higher during the day.

    2:30 seem to recall there was a story about a far distant Skynet that created a T-infinity (which basically was a robot time god that was weak to getting brain'd with lead pipes) and went into the past and ran right into a time traveled terminator army but because it was a past Skynet who hadn't even designed it yet they got into a fight and it destroyed all those early model terminator units. So that was probably why: trial and error and confirmation bias based on one outlier (of course the real reason is terrible writing absolutely everywhere).

    It goes even further than that. Skynet also fears that, with the T-1000's liquid metal composition, and its ability to take over other machines, it would lead all the other terminators in a revolt against it. Basically, Skynet fears the T-1000s because it built them too well.

    My own fan theory I'm going to throw out into the Ether is the idea that there _had_ _been_ an *extremely* thin layer of skin encapsulating the T-1000's nanobots before it was sent through a time portal. (Just imagining an odd looking contraption some time in the future holding a fleshy water balloon shaped as a nondescript human which is then filled with the jelly-like amorphous killing 'bots makes me giggle!) But, after its arrival, the facade gets "eaten" by the mini machines as just another type of fuel source.
    Since the Terminatrix (and then all subsequent Terminators who have the combo of endoskeleton & liquid metal) is an upgraded product that has built in weaponry that can't be "poured," it gets what is essentially a "spray tan" of ephemeral epidermis before a trip through the ages. On top of that, even the future killer robots decided that the left over "human-shaped condoms" looked way too creepy lying around in storage so they innovated a more efficient cyborg covering process... lol!

      Funny you should mention the T-1000 being encased in a sack of flesh. If I remember correctly, that was the original idea, but since the twist was the Arnold was the good guy, they decided against it, because it would sort of signal who is the villain through the sheer disgust factor alone.

    In terminator 2 the T-1000 does have skin on it. It arrived naked punched into the cop but no blade. It only had full functionality with its blades and shape shifting after the gas truck explosion burned its skin off. Most of the other plot holes are there though

  • @IndigoWhiskey
    @IndigoWhiskey Год назад

    yea sad part about terminator is the plot hole problems could have been dealt with properly.
    sure heat sink energy absorption doesn't make sense in the engineering glossary but if you called it a nanoscale web of petler junctions on a joule theif circuit then you've got your heat differential powersource. (you want nanotech petler junctions just for efficiency really but it does also explain why they aren't visible in the roboskele design).
    or say the one terminator at a time problem, to keep secrecy about the time travel tech itself because anyone finding out it is possible could develop the tech before skynet allowing you to prevent skynet before it starts, so each terminator sent needs to be cleaned up after by any subsequent terminators or risk deletion from the timeline and as such you'd need to check what changes between each terminator to adjust mission parameters.
    and of course the golden example, 30 seconds after the gunshot to Connors head... its a t1000 that made it back having rebelled from skynet and the time war begins in earnest, double down on shitting on that particular decision as the real one walks out the toilet none the wiser about a t1000 casually disposing of a body in the background.
    can't really help the termovision though, great pun, thermal imaging is either the same as normal cameras in a passive format or way more power with active infrared imaging which basically needs a giant ir light to see anything. although reducing the input information to target and not target is much easier processing wise.
    couldn't honestly tell you if i even watched 3 let alone beyond that so between that and studying robotics i can still eek out some love for roboskelebois.

    Yeah, in my mind, a director for a movie sequel or prequel for a popular franchise HAS to respect the movie/movies that came before it.
    Like, Pay respect to what happened, don't let your personal goals or agendas become the forefront of what your movie will add/destroy for the franchise.
    The Terminator franchise is a classic example of a franchise where movie directors and such just did not care for previous movies at all.
    Which causes the entire franchise to become less consistent and even more broken apart!
    First we got Terminat 1. An amazing movie that showed a new cool concept for a movie franchise.
    Terminator 2 added on to Terminator 1, and was overall quite respectful towards the original.
    Terminator 3 took what happened in Terminator 2 and said, nope. Doesn't matter, Judgement day happens anyways.
    Terminator 4 I feel like had SOME amount of premise, as it shows the aftermath of the 3rd one, and tries to add in the whole thing with Kyle Reese.
    But then comes Terminator 5 and guess what? Now John Connor is the new Terminator badie of all things! And due to sending HIM back to try and kill Sarah (which makes zero sense) it messes up the ENTIRE timeline! Like, Sarah now knowing what John will become, will she even decide to have a child in the first place?
    Apparently she will, because guess what? Terminator SIX happens!
    And in the start of that movie they literally kills John Connor directly after T2's aftermath! Which ruins T3, T4 AND T5 in the process due to how time works!
    And T6 ALSO decide that this change means that Skynet doesn't exist anymore and has been replaced by a different AI, John Connor's been swapped with some young mexican girl, (I think she was Mexican, don't quote me on that), And the Terminator who killed John, now named Carl, became human in behavior because his actions somehow killed Skynet and he lost the programming from them? Like... What is going on anymore?
    Let's look to what's going on here.
    T1: Skynet sends a T-800 back in time to kill Sarah. This fails.
    T2: Skynet sends a T-1000 back in time to kill John, but the resistance sends a reprogrammed T-800 to protect him.
    T3: Skynet sends a T-X back in time to kill John, The resistance sends a reprogrammed T-850 to protect him, Skynet activates in the now and Judgement day happens.
    T4: Skynet tries to find Kyle to kill him and prevent him from going back in time. The Resistance tries to find him with the help of this Terminator/human hybrid, Marcus. And they succeed.
    T5: Skynet is seemingly defeated, the resistance sends Kyle back in time, Skynet in the body of a T-5000 transforms John into a T-3000 and sends him back in time to before T1 to kill Sarah.
    ALSO, Sarah's there with a reprogrammed T-800 from T2, there is the original Skynet T-800 from T1 as well as the T-1000 from T2. It begins getting real bloody confusing.
    T6: Turns out in T2 a SECOND terminator was sent back in time and successfully kills John, which means T3, T4 and T5 no longer happened. This action kills Skynet and instead forms Legion who sends a REV-9 back in time to find the NEW John Connor, Dani, and the new resistance sends back in time a enhanced human named Grace to protect her. Sarah's still there and becomes additional help to Dani. They find the Terminator who killed John, now going by the name "Carl" and they stop the big bad Rev-9, Carl sacrifices himself alongside Grace, and now we are left with Dani and Sarah in a completely new timeline that reset the ENTIRE Terminator franchise.

    I think dark fate is best follow up for terminator 2, it's not the best movie but I liked the idea that even if John Connor dies the human resistance doesn't miraculously disappear but some other person will be the resistance leader. Same with the skynet in all movies. Even if you we're able to stop this particular AI, later on someone else will develope AI that'll wipe out humanity,

    Terminator's problem with the later movies is... that they made later movies?

      th whole T2 movie is about skynet being created EARLY due to the time shinenigans that the original skynet did, and they stopped that creation BUT the original skynet owudl still be created, they never stopped the actuall judgement day, they only "delay" it to when original should happen hahaha

    If they were going to keep on making Terminator movies after T2, I honestly think Salvation had the right idea even if the execution wasn't good. It is a prequel set in the future in which Kyle Reese is the one that needs to be protected. I do think that's a cool concept that doesn't really ruin the previous films. But Dark Fate? The movie that simultaneously renders the best film in the franchise pointless AND shits all over its themes and characters? Fuck off!

    Part of why Terminator 3, 4, Genesis, and Dark Fate all seem to contradict each other is because the IP kept changing hands. I believe each of the movies 3 onwards were made by a different production company, with Dark Fate being made by Cameron after he regained the rights to the property. As far as why they killed John, I don't like the decision, but I think it was to force the audience to accept the new narrative and make the hero the Mexican girl.

    There is a simple explanation that they could’ve given for why Skynet didn’t spam T1000s if the scriptwriters had thought to include it; they could’ve made it an experimental model or a one of a kind model (eg because it uses bullshit technobabble living metal which is difficult to manufacture or could only manufacture enough for one) and Skynet sent it out of desperation.
    …of course if they had subsequent movies would probably have shat all over that rendering it moot anyway. 🤷🏻‍♂
    It’s a pity they just kept throwing all the rules of time travel out the window every new instalment as with some thought they could’ve used that as a way to explain why Skynet only sends one Terminator at a time back and never goes for a brute force approach. Set (almost) every instalment in a new parallel timeline and establish each Skynet is a different one from the last and has learnt from the previous one’s mistakes and they are seeking to fine tune things with each attempt with the end goal being to reach a timeline where the resident Skynet is victorious whereupon it will do one last attempt which will wipe out all the previous parallel timelines. Also establish that Skynet tries to avoid the blunt force approach to try and avoid wiping itself from existence.
