Another good informational video, like that you show a lot of DIY stuff, very cool, just a little addition the 335 series 351c 351m/400 tangs are to the outside along with numbers, keep up the great work! 👍

Thanks 🙏 for the video I couldn’t find what way to face them, I pulled rods out a 400 and 2 where backwards...

Are those ARP 8740 3/8" rod bolts? I'm doing a similar 351W build and was going to go with same pistons and rods. Was wondering if an ARP 2000 bolt upgrade was worth it. Summit has the max rpm for the SCAT pro stock I beam at 6200 rpm, which seems kind of low. Assume the bolts are the limiting factor.

That's a good question. I'll try to keep it short. I did quite a bit of research on these rods before I used them. I have my Rev limiter at 7,000. Honestly, I know guys that have used stock football rods at that rpm for 10+ years in drag racing NA with 8740 arp bolts in them. Knowing a power adder was also in the future I opted for these BC of price/strength with 8740 bolts. If I personally wanted more strength I would switch to H beams with 7/16" bolts, the 2000 bolt option on the I-beams puts it in that H-beam price range. But now you are getting within cast crank 408 stroker kit territory. Where do you stop the snowball??? 😆. In the quest for affordability, I feel confident with the I-beams with 8740 bolts for my purposes keeping it under 7,000. After all it's just a stock cast crank. You'll have to decide what lets you sleep at night. 😁👍

@@blueovaldude Thanks for the response. I think I can sleep soundly with the 8740 bolts. I won't be going over 7000, and will likely limit it to 6500 RPM.

Hey man, im installing rod bearings on a stock 95 351w. What clearance did you use for your conrod bearings? Stock crank is 2.3, so im assuming .002-.0023. Clevite has the spec at .0005-.003. Ive heard alot of people tell me .002 is too loose and to go for .0015

Good question. For a high performance engine generally .001 for every inch of journal diameter is acceptable. So .0022-.003 for a rod journal in a Windsor. .0029-.0035 for the mains . It helps allow for high rpm flex and scoring bearings. You can go Tighter in a stock non performance app .

On a side note, I know a national record holder that told me he had over .004 clearance . Also use the appropriate oil for your clearance and engine temp . I hope that answers your questions.

Pro tip: he said fillet, like it is a piece of meat, but in this context that word is pronounced FILL-it, like fill it up. Now you know.
