    Nice one! Glad to see you using Blender. A couple of years back I had an important project that required to learn QGIS from scratch, with no previous knowledge and your tutorials did it for me. Really nicely explained!

    This video is very timely. I have been struggling through various ways to to this, but a demo done from the QGIS perspective (and by a experienced user) is super helpful!

    Nice work!! Thank you for the "walkthrough". In R (programming language) you can also do it using the package "rayshader" alongside other packages like "sp", "sf" and "raster" with 10 lines of code is possible to achieve such a beautiful result.

    good morning, great video. in qgis I create the 3d model with the Qgis2threejs plugin and export it in gltf format. in blender I import it and I find the correct 3d model also with the Z coordinates.

    Not sure why Blender calls that setting "air" exactly but it's volumetric lighting - you're changing the effect that light passing through different media might have (more/less water vapor or aerosolized dust, for example). Great tutorial!

    Hi, thanks for this. Question. You mentioned having a global elevation dataset. Is that by chance part of QGIS or do I need to find a global dataset to use inside of QGIS?

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  2 месяца назад

      You need to download that from Internet. And you may need to merge several files to get a complete global dataset in a resolution you are satisfied with.

    • @eleftheria_fr
      @eleftheria_fr 11 месяцев назад

      Hello, I had similar issues and this is how i solved them. First, I had to reverse the color ramp in Qgis so that the lowest value was white and the highest black. Then in Blender I had to lower my plane since it has higher than the actual elevation model. Hope I helped! 😊

    Hej Klas! Tack för denna video! Jag har precis börjat jobba i QGIS och klurar nu på hur får jag in en 3D-modell i QGIS (har en modell i dxf-format och en i obj-format). Har du någon video om det? :-) Tack igen!

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  2 года назад

      Du kan använda 3d modeller i obj som symbol för ett punktobjekt. Välj detta i 3d inställningarna för ett punktlaget.

    Excellent video. I've tried to follow your tutorial but my model has "stairs" and it is not smooth. Could you help with this situation? My elevation data is 10m pixel size. Thank you. Again nice video

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  2 года назад +2

      Well, 10m pixels should probably not be used in scales under 1:50'000 (roughly), so if this is the issue you should "zoom out" or get higher resolution elevation data. It might be possible to resample the elevation data and interpolate the new values with a suitable. There might also be workarounds in Blender, but I'm not savvy enough to guide you there.

    • @vladimir-nodes_surfer

      That is not only a resolution problem, it is related with the image format. Jpeg is really not good for displacement as it introduces that stairs artifacts, due to compression. You should use Tiff 16 bit at least and if the results are not good enough try Open EXR, although 32 bit could be too much in many cases. That is for the displacement. For texturing you can get away with Jpeg.
      Also, if you use Blender 3.x you get do do this stuff in Geometry Nodes, that starting with this version has Image texture nodes. This way you get to control the effect a lot better.

      @KlasKarlsson  2 года назад +1

      I have a used 4 core i7-3720QM from 2012 upgraded to 16 Gb ram and a 250 Gb SSD. It came with a AMD Verde graphics card. You really don't need a lot (if you run Linux). All is done with open source software and you trade limited computer performance for time spent. A better computer will be faster, but you can still do all the work with limited hardware.

      There's a "top" view and you can switch the 3d view to orthographic if that is desired.

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  2 года назад +1

      If you are asking if you can do the GIS parts with ArcGis, then the answer is yes you can. If you can't get the correct raster image file formats, you can always convert them in another graphics package.
