    @isaacjohnson. 6 лет назад +15

    That sounded great. Perfect call on the 2x12. I agree that while the Epiphone is a great value, the whole rig would have a bit more bite with an upgraded guitar. Why is there so much controversy around what Greta Van Fleet sounds like-are classic rock sounds untouchable? I love their sound and am happy that someone new and current is pulling off playing new tunes with that sound. If a new jazz artist or blues artist comes out they play jazz or blues, but for some reason no-one in rock is supposed to sound like their classic rock influences. I don't get it. I love and wish there was more of it being played by bands today. Plus Greta Van Fleet plays an amazing live set-Saw them in concert and they blew the doors of the place and played with a ton of energy.

      Andrew Pappas I think they would have a bit of a challenge on their hands. Not so much with Ed King or Gary Rossington’s rig but with Allen Collins rig. Rossington and King played a Les Paul and a Strat respectively, but Collins played a Firebird and Epiphone currently doesn’t make an affordable Firebird. He did also play an Explorer towards the end of the original lineup. The amps would be easy choices Marshalls for Gary and Allen’s rig (likely Origin series and I hope it’s the heads again like this video) and Fender for Ed Kings rig.

      I've heard Les Paul hated it and demanded they take his name off it, although Gibson says it was changed once they used up their stock of Les Paul headplates, and because Paul was declining in popularity and his name was no longer valuable in selling guitars. Whatever, it's my favorite Gibson...

      @Matt_Lanzer_13 6 лет назад +1

      HotRodX if you look it up, it was originally called the les Paul sg. After les Paul was furious about the decision, they dropped his name from it. It was referred to as the les Paul sg because they still had les Paul juniors and similar, so they needed a way to distinguish the models

      @scadoodlemusic3682 6 лет назад

      FiddlerSteve a mix of both. Les Paul didn’t like it and didn’t want his name associated with it so Gibson just waited to change the name after they used up the supply of “Les Paul SG” name played

      All about headstock shape. If they would give epi’s the open book headstock, they would be flying off the shelf. Epi’s don’t look right. Call it vanity or whatever, but most guitar players are a little vein. I’m not sure if it’s a great move or terrible move by Gibson.

    • @Foghornish
      @Foghornish 4 года назад

      The woods used on the cheapest Gibsons are better than the premium Epis. Not only that, but the pickups and pots are superior also (although some Epis do come with Gibson pups/electronics). The biggest seller for me though is the finish: Nitro feels so much better. I've got 2 of the cheap Gibsons: an lp and an sg special and I've owned Epis before too. That said I think they actually made the right choice here and Epis are still great value for money.

    I use the Epi G-400 Pro '66 with a Marshall DSL40C and have zero issues getting this sound. While I'm sure the 2x12 is really helpful, you can comfortably gig with a 1x12 combo and pull out these tones quite easily.
