As a huge Greta Van Fleet fan, this was really interesting to me. I love hearing the passion and Daniel nerding out about his kit. His drum solos are one the best parts of Greta’s live shows and I can’t wait to see them on tour again this summer. Thank you Modern Drummer!
Here come the old timers with their “bonham” comparisons. Just shut it. Music changes, people grow old, the new wave moves in. Danny is a fantastic drummer and he’s the nicest guy- leave him alone. I swear, half of y’all can’t drum, and the other half have never won a Grammy.
There are Hella lot worse comparisons to make than John Bonham. Listen to "Sacred the Thread" and the first take pretty much everyone has is Bonham on "When the Levee Breaks" and rightfully so. Whether Greta fans like it or not, Led Zeppelin was there first, though Greta Van Fleet is neither the first nor the last band to be compared to them.
Story time- Danny was a top notch high school golfer(his dad was his HS coach) he qualified for the state championships all four years but did not play his senior year because GVF had festival dates in Europe. Seems like a wise choice!

Danny deserves all the attention we can give him. He’s a great human being, and he works his ass off every night for the band and the crowd. And I don’t know just which part of his kit creates that thud sensation, but the first time I saw them live in Bridgeport, Connecticut, I swore it was gonna be the death of me, because I was standing right in line with his drums. I was contemplating hittin’ the deck!😂
I just love that’s he’s being honest about his gear. “Yeah this breaks sometimes.” “This is the 112th year blah blah snare… it sounds good, buts it’s just my back up, because my Supra is just magic.” Most of these sound like a infomercial direct from whatever manufacturer they’re sponsored by. This was just unbiased honesty and it was truly refreshing!
This is really cool. I feel like people might not guess how much goes into the drums too! Danny is a talent. We’ve heard the nerd stuff about their guitars & bass so it was about time we got to hear Danny nerd out about the drum gear
Enjoyed this very much. I'm also OBSESSED with buying drum off of Reverb, I completely feel you there! The kit is awesome and so personalized which RULES. The bottle opener is a great addition. Congrats on your success and best wishes for the future.
I saw them at Bourbon and Beyond last year-not knowing anything about Daniel as a drummer-just knew about GVF..He was awesome!!! Great show!! Really cool to see his drum kit and have him tell about it..
Lot of people think you need an expensive kit to play live . It's just not true . Nice to know I am not the only one frankinstin their drum kits it's a lot of fun doing itv
Love the Speed King! I have never been able to dial in a pedal the way my early 80's Speed King performed - DW 5000, Pearl's , and currently Tama Iron Cobra's - all great pedals, but I miss my Speed King's!
I respect the fact that even though he's in a huge band, he's playing orphan drums/roto toms/old Ludwig timbales because he likes the way they sound. Drum geeks unite!
My daughter & I met Danny in person in Asbury Park. He’s only a yr older than her. lol. Very, very kind & truly talented. GVF will make it into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Long live rock!
I absolutely appreciate the fact that Danny took the time to introduce and give credit to his tech. There are so many people working together every night to make a show happen, and it's nice to see Danny recognizes that teamwork.

Enjoyed listening to this! I always wondered about the in ear monitors for drummers and what that would be like. My bands never made enough money for them, so we either suffered through incredible decibels or suffered with not hearing anything with ear plugs.Would’ve loved to have had them for hearing protection, but how they’d work for drummers seemed like it’d feel very strange. I’ve noticed that snare tone, it’s beautiful. So cool to learn that it’s his baby!
Not really a greta van fleet fan (not NOT a fan either) not even a drummer (guitar player) but familiar with lots of rig run downs and this was S tier, covered all the bases down to monitoring. Guy is as down to earth as it gets and you can tell he loves his craft.

The nicest, most personable, most genuine rock drummer…threw one of those sticks high up at Beale Street with the biggest smile.
