I was watching an older Sounds like from like two years ago and came across a very good comment idea. It is as the guy in that comment said a long shot but why not bring in a guitarist (famous or semi famous) and let them create a rig to match their sound on a budget of 1500$, or just let them find a sound they would use for under 1500$. Seeing as a lot of famous guitarists has near unlimited budget it would be fun to see what they would do with a very limited budget to get a sound they like. You of course help find the gear in the store and give tips.
It can become kind of like a top gear thing, formula one drivers trying to get the best time in that "Reasonably Priced Car".
Hell yeah
this is the best idea
This would be so cool!
That's a damn good idea! BUT, a lot of famous musicians have a signature, so by doing this, it could be sending the wrong message...
"Sound like me, but paying 10 times less" might cause problems with their sponsors :(
Good one!
When that "Sleep Now in the Fire" riff came in, I wasn't sure if I was hearing you guys or if you were trolling us with an audio clip from the album. It was just that perfect.
I was just about to post the exact same thing. I was on another tab and I didn't realize it wasn't a clip until the bass came in. Didn't sound bad, but TimmyC has a hell of a tone.
So is normal Whammy or Whammy DT better for Tom's sound?
It was not
@@rileymcgill9893 It was.
Hahaha, I just find the whole idea of sounding like Tom Morello by spending $10 grand very ironic!
Ticket prices this year change that mentality
Who else got a Tom Morello masterclass advert??? XD
Me! Thought it was very fitting
I got a Guitar Center ad about the Chapman Semi-hollow! xD
ToothyTubs Apps I really wanna take the class
Yep. The first RUclips ad I think I’ve watched all the way through...!
Jack Hail To The Kid yeah me too, looks interesting
21:07 that was the most unsatisfying thing I've heard in a while
no killing in the name, denied!
As badass that intro part is, you always need to do that main riff
As badass that intro part is, you always need to do that main riff
Yes, QotSA represent, Matt.
Wow that might just have been your best sounds like episode, this is the segment that had me subscribe to your channel in the first place. Andertons kind of cracked the social media code with their RUclips channel. Fair play I say, Keep up the good work.
big props to Matt - adaptable and talented always sounds great in the jams and really helps the sounds like, sound like!
I shall ask one more time. PLEASE DO RANDY RHOADS BY BUSTING A NUT/THE BANK
Gibson Flying V with PAF style pickups + MXR Distortion Plus + MXR 10-Band EQ + Marshall Plexi Reissue
Offinthepines Cranked to hell lol. And yes please do a Without Busting a nut versions as well
Gibson Flying V or Jackson USA Rhoads V, if none of them are in stock then Gibson Les Paul Custom
Marshall Silver Jubilee head and cab
MXR Distorion +
MXR Stereo Chorus
MXR Flanger
MXR 10 Band EQ
Dunlop Cry Baby Wah
EHX POG (for part of the solo in Over The Mountain)
Can’t do one without doing the other
LP + Peavey PA head
How to spend 2x the amount tom morello probably spends on his rig
Tell me you dont really think that the Tom's actuall rig is cheaper then this...
whatttt?
is this comment serious? 🤣
Thats actually right
Rebel Rebel about what?
Dhiardana Rachmadiargo tom's been playing with the same amp, pedals and guitars for 30 years. Go eatch the new Fender sessions video, just came out today.
Glad for this one, Tom is one of my favourite guitarists, with a distinct style.
So funny but so true. When your that could u don't have to copy artist u can actually have a great tone on a small budget
0:18 now that noise sounds exactly like him
Nailed it
Man that Tele JCM800 combination sounded HUGE. Also huge love to Matt, I think he does a marvelous job on the bass in every vid he plays in.
Love this series :)
I’d love to see an episode on Boston
Well I'll be dimmadamned. Didn't expect to see you here
Aaron I mean it's not like the most surprising thing ever
I surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
No way.
Love Tom Scholz’ guitar tone, sounds absolutely huge and it’s awesome
I got a Tom Morello ad before this!
Please do Megadeth and Van Halen soon
Doesn't Morello use the 2205 Dual channel 800? You're nailing the tones with the single channel reissue don't get me wrong but the 2205 twin channel uses diode clipping which does sound slightly different.
Nailing it with that set up tho!
Oh and would absolutely love to see a sound like Alex Lifeson BY busting the bank 😏
It's only the boost channel which uses diode clipping. The "clean" channel on the 2205/2210 sounds pretty similar to the single channel JCM800's.
A Morello sound like without trying to recreate the sound of "Arm the homeless" or "Soul power" guitars? What is this?
I don't think paint and marker makes much of a difference.
A couple weird ones:
My Bloody Valentine without busting the bank
Melvins without busting the bank
I'd love to see a Melvins rig, Buzz has such a unique setup
So long since I heard some of these Morello grooves. Just irresistible.
That bass sound was killer!
Never clicked on a video so fast!
same xD
And they did bass this time. Hell yes.
Tim Commerford is a beast, yeah
From the very first note you played on that Tele I was blown away. Wow, what a great sounding guitar.
One of the most accurate sounds like for sure, very good
21:07
Who else grabbed an air microphone and shouted "Killing in the name of!"?
Guilty
shame they never did the headbanging riff that comes after, but there's only so much room in a sound like
also yes i did scream "KILLING IN THE NAME OF!"
I did it on the : "yeah yo it's just another bombtrack !!!" 😂🤣
I bought the tele in this video! Dropped in to Andertons while on vacation in the UK a couple of weeks ago, from Canada, and fell in love with it. The entire vacation I couldn't stop thinking about it. So when I got home I purchased it. Should arrive on Monday!
That sounded fantastic guys! Well done! And the bass work was on point as well Matt
"Simple ideas executed perfectly " couldn't agree more. Excellent description of TM's style
Matt’s bass playing is spot on in this video
Trying to nail down Tom Morello is like trying to catch the wind with a butterfly net!!
"Sleep Now In The Fire" was absolutely spot on! Damn guys, this was veeeery cool, cheers! Well done.
Love it with Matt playing bass now, great job and really make the Sounds Like even better!
PLEASE Sound like Billy Talent! Ian D'Sa is a Riff Master ...
yes! Billy Talent would be awesome to see!
100% Agree. Ian D'Sa is a genius when it comes to riffs. It would be great to see a sounds like!!
Sound like King gizzard and the lizard wizard without busting the bank , please!
Strat, fender hot rod deville, devi ever thorns peaker , carbon copy, dd3 and wah
Add microtonal frets without busting the bank!!!!!
A thousand times yes
That sounds like the coolest band name ever, that's hilarious
@@andrewpappas9311 It's a real band. They're a heavy psychedelic group from Australia who change styles frequently.
Great playing by Bea and Matt, as always. This is one of those episodes that shows just how much of the thickness is coming from the bass.
I have been watching you guys for years now, and I believe this has been your best sounds like episode ever. Keep it up guys!
How about sound like Rammstein? Maybe wait until their new album finally comes out..
it's only another 10 years away
Ooh, that's a good one. Sound like Rammstein would be awesome.
I know Richard Z Kruspe has a signature ESP (two in fact) but it's too much money, but the good thing is it's EMG's and Floyd Rose
Tom Morello wow, but can you guys do sounds like dream theater?? It would be a complete heaven to watch the video.
>crappy riffs
>carnival keyboard sounds
>worst singing on the planet
yeah sure!
You are high, take a rest and wake up next morning and delete this comment.
Just use John's actual rig. EBMM into an Axe-FX.
All it is, is music man john petrucci signature with any amp with tons of gain lmao
I believe they did do Dream Theater.
Thanks for the lot of sound clip demos! I love hearing as many riffs as possible in the same sounds like video. Also, great choice in adding Audioslave into the mix...some of those songs are killer.
Ohh gosh... I've been waiting for this soooo long... and I thing this episode is just pure awesomeness! Goood f**king job guys!
Sound Like Mark Knopfler BY Busting The Bank ;)
Lauri Värtinen Guitar just a strat with a booster. And a les paul for all the dire straights stuff. It’s mostly his finger and thumb picking technique.
Yes!
@@jasonrhodes5034 yeah I know. I just would to hear the sound they achieve by using all the expensive stuff. 😊
And a steel guitar for Romeo and Juliet. But yeah Knofler could make any PoS guitar sound amazing.
Jason Rhodes all you people who comment “ it’s easy just get x guitar and x amp with x pedals” need to shut the hell up... that’s not the point of the show. Anyone can go and look up what to buy, but it’s how they get the tones and dialing it in and everything that make the show.
Ritchie Blackmore, the clash, Rory Gallagher
On my birthday you publish the “how to sound like” to my favorite guitarist!!! Perfect!!!!
That was awesome, guys. You nailed this one. Spot on, in my opinion. I love the nostalgia of hearing those great riffs from my youth! Would love hear a sounds like video about Ween and see how you guys play some of those riffs. Great job, as always!
The first album of Audioslave is in my top 5 best albums of all time without any doubt!!
Sounded great. How about Robin Finck from Nine Inch Nails (and Trent Reznor)
Oooh
These guys are awesome. I started watching them years ago , and I go back to it over and over. Love their attitude and attention to detail. Cheers from USA guys!! Take care and Keep Rocking!!
HELL YEAH I'VE BEEN WAITING ON THIS ONE FOREVER LOVE YOU GUYS
You guys should do Chevelle and get some baritones for a change of pace!
Type o negative for Halloween and the bass players!!
One of the best Sound Like! You nailed the tone! Now I have to buy a tele, thanks
That Tom Morello ad gave me goose pimples, I learnt a number of the RATM back catalog as a kid :)
Funny thing, in my head "no budget" means broke :(
Sound like the Clash
Sound like Joy Division (including peter hook)
Wow this one really nailed it. Great great tones, and what a fantastic rig.
Tom is such a killer guitarist, his style is just too epic. I'd love to see a Sound Like Ghost or Sound Like Primus at some point as well, great vid as always guys, also that Les Paul and Tele both look gorgeous
also: Sound like KARNIVOOL!!!!!!!! and bring Dave for the bass!!!!!!!! DO IT!!!!!
Yes, yes, yes!!!
Sound like Steve Lukather (Toto) and Andy Summers (Police)
Steve has a signature Musicman but way too expensive so something with EMG's or Double Humbuckers will work well
his amps are Bogner which are too expensive so maybe get the Uberschal overdrive
Pedalswise he has: Xotic SP Compressor, MXR Univibe, Jam Pedals Waterfall Chorus, Toneconcepts Distillery Luke, Dunlop Joe Bonamassa Wah and some kind of distortion, he also has a Strymon Lex, TC Flashback and a Strymon Blue Sky
go figure!
another great video boys...well done, it sounded immense!
Remember to also strap your guitar on super high like a nerd for the full effect.
You miss the flanger in the intro of killing in the name
Quetzal Cuevas i think it’s a phaser actually
Cameron Cade , i dont know dude, but phaser and flanger sound so similar
it was originally a flanger but he changed to phaser in live performances
William Allison actually the opposite I’m pretty sure, I saw one of his boards had a flanger for a performance of killing in the name, the studio sounds like phaser
Great video! Blur next time?
SOMEONE ELSE AGREES!!!
Love the video! I do recall he ALSO played the Les Paul that he set on fire at one point. That was an instant classic in my book.
Sleep Now in the Fire tone NAILED! Bravo, gentlemen.
Sound like Wayne Static. Sound like Megadeth (Friedman era). Sound like Robert Fripp. Sound like Electric Wizard. Sound like Corrosion if Conformity. (have they done Alice in Chains yet?) Sound like John 5. Sound like Frank Zappa. Sound like Yes. Sound like Wolfmother.
Alice In Chains was done and so was Wolfmother
Love this shown cuz it’s a fun way to find out about other musicians and allows me to get out of my comfort zone and be inspired by stuff other than the music I always listened to. Keep it up!
Che Roberts Thanks man! Appreciate it!
Completely awesome! Very well done. You guys nailed it. It couldn't have only been better if Tom did it himself. Fantastic job guys.
Agreed. "that is a great colour" Looks amazing in any light.
Yeah I'm taking an early lunch to watch this
S T I’m skipping class to watch it
Pls do sound like dorje there my favourite guitarists big up rabea and Rob.
To get the sound of "Testify" : Telecaster with drop d tuning , neck pickup , then you plug the guitar to an overdrive pedal , the next in the chain is the vox wah , the next is the whammy with the double harmony option , the next is a boss dd3 with a slapback delay , and all that goes to the amplifier . And to create that weird intro on Testify , you play the six and the five strings together with the overdrive , wah , whammy and delay together too and you must modulate the sound with the wah going up and down . . . It's a lot of work.
Once again the tele is proved to be the versatile beast it really is. Great job!
You absolutely have to do Steve Vai!
SOUND LIKE ERIC JOHNSON
Fender Eric Johnson Thinline Stratocaster
Fender Twin Reverb

Walrus Julia Chorus
Catalinbread Belle Epoch
Ibanez TS808

Fender Squier Classic Vibe 50's strat
Marshall Origin 5
Tone City Tape Machine
Tone City Angel Wing
Mooer Green Mile
Dunlop Eric Johnson Fuzz Face
Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive MOD
Pre or post fuzz?
@@kenconify like ah via musicom era
Judson Graham gotcha so pre fuzz light distortion with that incredible crystal clear tone
@@kenconify yup yup
You guys nailed it, also both of you playing together has gotten tight!
Thanks for this one guys! Morello is a legend.
Sound like buckethead without busting the bank
love to hear Bea play some buckethead
Yes!
Easy. Marshall Origin or DSL. any Les paul with ceramic humbuckers and a killswitch. That new EHX wah, digitech whammy and any modulation type shit he uses
Weeaboo Trashski
playing like buckethead isnt easy...
@@samsonl7 I was talking about the gear, you muppet
Sounds like ghost
Senin ilanını garaj'da görmüştüm dünya küçük :D
1000%
I got so happy when they played like a stone. Great rig guys
I came for the guitar sounds but man!!!! What on earth was that bass??? Some of the best bass sounds I have heard for a long time.
Billy Duffy of The Cult please
sounds like blur
sounds like the clash
sounds like idles
sounds like the sex pistols
sounds like the pixies
sounds like death from above 1979
sounds the ramones
sounds like sonic youth
sounds like suede
Adamnme01 Yes to all of these 🙏
the clash and the ramones would be great
Pixies and idles would
be boss
I like to imagine a Sound like The Clash.
-Joe
Obviously a Fender Mex Telecaster with rosewood or pau ferro :( fretboard. His main amp since 1979 was a Musicman HD 150, but he recorded the first and second albums with a Twin Reverb and also tried to get that kind of sound with his new Musicman amp. We can even see a Fender amp on some live pictures after 1980. Maybe you could get a Fender Mustang, if want to spend more money, get a Fender blues Junior is a good one.
-Mick
Mick used Les Pauls as we all know, a Les Paul Jr at the early days, a Standard to record the second album and some Custom models for the rest of The Clash years. I think the best choice for a Sound Like is the Epiphone Les Paul Standard, not so dark as a Custom and not so P90's as another guitar. Plus Top Pro, Tribute... I don't care which one. For amp, Mick chosed a Mesa Boogie Mark II through Marshall cabinets for most of his career with The Clash. But, for not busting the bank, our dear Marshall DSL40 is the perfect option. You also need a flanger, a delay and maybe a Ibanez Tube Screamer. That's all my stuff
So “Sounds like Pop Rock”?
You guys did it again! Superb
Nailed it with that Tele tone guys, soo good!
Great video guys! Please do:
-The Cult
-Stray Cats
-Ted Nugent
-UFO
-Pat Travers
Would like UFO just to see them doing the V some justice.
But for the cult I see their rig being DSL, boss chorus, Flanger and delay (and maybe reverb or and RV-5 style for delay and 'verb) with a cheap gretsch (of if it1s too much, DSL, Gretsch, Chorus)
And stray cats also a gretsch hollowbody, fender amp and a analog delay (o,r if the money allows, Strymon flint and mxr cabon copy)
I really wanna see those now
My mate's cousin played bass for UFO... Pete Way...! He signed one of my guitars....!
Stray Cats without busting: Gretsch G2420 (with bigsby), Fender Blues Junior, Boss DM2 Wazacraft
BY busting: Gretsch Brian Setzer signature 6120, Fender Bassman head and cab, Boss DM2 or Roland Space Echo
Like your requests. No more commies for me thank you.
Sound like Franz Ferdinand without busting the bank
After years I think I’m ready for that digitech whammy. Always wanted one but didn’t know my instrument well enough.
PERFECT this is the best episode yet
Sound like Anthrax or Slayer
Imperium And Megadeth!
Sound like Malmsteen?
Oh good God No
Only if both of them are wearing leather pants in the video.
Fender Stratocaster
Marshall Origin Combo
Boss Chorus Ensemble
Fender Yngwie Malmsteen Overdrive
Boss DD3
Dunlop Cry Baby Wah
Dunlop Fuzz Face (but only for show, as Yngwie said he likes the way it looks, it looks like a landmine)
No thanks
First, while I am not a guitarist... but a bassist, I always enjoy how to sound like and all about the bass segments. Second, if I were a guitarist, I would want to sound like Tom Morello! That dude kills it! So as a result, I am more than happy to know that I sound like Tim Comerford; synchronicity.
Keep up the great segments everyone! Music love from across the pond.
You've done some tricky, iconic sound likes but probably the hardest left to do is Jeff Beck.
Sound like...
Sonic Youth (all of their tunings are on their website.)
The Cure
Danzig
Ramones
The Clash
Dinosaur Jr
Jackson 5 (this could just be a fun one)
Gotta be sonic youth
sound like Sonic Youth it's a nightmare
Beeing a captain of a Deep sea trawler is a dangerous occupation Matt you must be brave man. Have you ever had any near misses or had a crew member go overboard? To be honest I think there's easier ways to make a living. But if the seas in your blood man. what can you do us land lubbers don't understand the calling of the sea

One of the best episodes!
Great job. One of the best matches you've done.
Nailed it. I was really hoping for the Like a Stone solo though. I think that’s one of his greatest tones and I’m just being selfish because it’s one of my favorite solos of all time.
