Good choice Chris , currently run a S5 MK 1 and might wait for an possible S1 MK2 since I'm doing lot of motorsports photo and videography and higher mechanical burst rates + 4k120 without crop would be nice to have ... Also keeping an eye on the S5ii X

Chris, thanks for mentioning the Lumix S5 II. After a bunch of research, I bought one with 2 lenses (deciding on only 2 lenses was agonizing, but in the end I am super happy with my choices.), planning on 1 more lens for sure but I am super happy with the camera. I have been looking for the right camera to switch to from my 5 Nikon bodies bought over 20 years and 12 lenses and downsizing to one body and just a few lenses. What you said caused me to finally take the time to sell it all, 20 years of Nikon gone! Thought you'd like to know you had some impact on someone. Take care.

I'm still on a G85. Love the IBIS and how light it is. Can't wait for phase detect to come to their M4/3 line.
You could keep your lenses and try Olympus/OM systems. PDAF and Contrast detect. Works very well!
@@gordon3988 For sure. I'm not married to Panasonic as a brand, but I've come to the conclusion that 10-bit is overrated if you can get the colors right in camera, and I love my Dual IS. So for right now there's not a compelling enough reason to upgrade to any other camera, let alone system.
Good auto-focus would be nice to have, but I started my career with manual lenses.

Rumor has it that the creators that were in Japan for the launch were gifted the camera and a full set of lens? Would you have switched if you had to spend your own money to replace all of the glass?
I'm super curious about how effective that baked-in LUT works. Like if you work in a controlled environment (e.g. same lighting, location like a photo studio), can it eliminate the need for post-processing entirely? I hope someone makes a video about that when this camera is fully released. I'm on a Z6ii and looking to switch as well, mostly for the same reason as Chris.

It's worth mentioning that the S5ii uses the same old focus at 1080 50/60p full frame. You need to use cropped sensor in order to have PDAF. So. If you shoot a lot of 1080p (which is my case) this is not ideal. Cheers.
Obviously i'm not a youtuber and my channel is almost empty, but if you are into outdoor sports, climbing, new experiences, exploration, mountains.. around italy or in europe, let me know cause for me it's always inspiring to share stuff with others and learn from them..
And the Lumix chapter, will repay your choice, it's an amazing camera and i'm really happy with S5 from the beginning, now will be even better.

And what about the lens lineup? I’m pretty tempted by this new Lumix but if you compare what’s available for Sony the range is really massive. Is the S5II any good for stills?
S5II is very good for stills. It have a great sensor and probably much more options than you need.
Regarding the glass, what lenses do you need? L-mount has it probably covered as Sigma has a lot of the great lenses. Also, with Sigma adapter, you can use a tons of Canons EF lenses.

I went from the GH4 to GH5, GH5s to S1H.. brilliant and robust camera systems. Coupled with the Ninja V for pro res raw it's a perfect setup for me. Probably get the S5ii for Gimbal footage (feel like im betraying my trade using auto focus now ha)
I have quite a bit of Canon RF kit (R5, R5C, 3 lenses) and I'm honestly on a wait and see. If LUMIX continues to improve with the next S5mark3 or S2H or whatever they do...I might sell off Canon gear and make a switch. That or Sony puts eND in a full frame mirrorless style body...will they do it for under 7K...doubtful.

Aww. Goodbye former sony user. I did actually hear great things about Lumix overtime and they do very well in the video department maybe photo as well. I got my Sony A7IV recently and have been enjoying the camera and its entire lens system. I've made the switch from Canon. Good luck with your new camera!

Whether Sony or Lumix tgyey are some of the best cameras out there at the moment. The a7 iv and the S5ii are the only camera you will ever need. They can do absolutely everything! What a time to be alive with such camera's
Just when I might move to Sony with the A7R5. I tried the Panasonic S5II out a few days ago, very nice camera, AF was good.

although i am currently a sony user.. i started using Lumix, the color science has always been superior and their equipment has always been superior in technology and with cheaper prices. I think this is the right time to jump to a new generation and expect good things from Lumix, I will also sell my Sony equipment and switch to the S5IIX. It suits my needs and my pocket :)
Hi - if I filmed in vlog and baked in the 709 conversion lut on the S5II, how much work would I need to do in post. Im not used to editing log.
Unrelated, but has anyone done an outdoor, direct sunlight overheating test with a normal camera that is known for overheating VS the same one with a white skin on it like his Sony? While I know much of the heat is internal, we also know they overheat faster outdoors int he sun. Black absorbs heat, white bounces much of it away. Thoughts?

Chris does the autofocus work well in anamorphic modes?
to be honest it's easy to switch camera but the problem is switching the lenses lineup. I've switch from Nikon to Sony years ago and it's always difficult to get and equivalent lens.

I’ve seen others do the same with the R5C. One reviewer is actually ticked at Canon. He sent his camera in for an excessive noise issue along with detailed info and images. His cohost on the show also had the same camera to compare, so they know the camera had an issue. Canon gave him the song and dance and said nothing was wrong and returned it.
Have you used or reviewed the new fujis? (Xh2, xh2S or xt5) I love them! Finally up there with Sony and canon autofocus. 40 mp and 8k video and doesn’t overheat.
Or the 6k version with open raw and stacked sensor etc for sports and action etc
6K open gate changed the game for vertical video. GoPro 11 has that vertical capability to do vertical. Cameras are headed this way?

Is that any good for photography? Weddings, funerals etc..? For a video that seams perfect for me but i need a hybrid camera. I was thinking that Sony a7rV would be my next camera, but now I'm not so sure. Rumors tells that R5 II is coming, without that ibis wobbling that would be perfect for me. But Lumix is best for a price.. So confucing :)

I’ve always felt like Lumix has the best videography science out of all the brands, but the Sony’s and Canons of the industry put the biggest spec innovations for headlines. Lumix has other features that aren’t talked about enough like post-focus and so much more. Kudos to you for having the courage to make the switch!
Nah Panasonic actually made huge waves for quite some time with specs. The Gh4 was the first video first camera to ever do 4k. They popularized 10 bit. They do get credit for big innovations, it's just they completely ignored RUclipsrs for 3 years and AF sucked, so Sony tookover.
Canon hardly innovates beyond changing mounts and increasing MP.
@@CanditoTrainingHQ Your point about the GH4 is exactly one of the reasons why I hold this opinion. I've always felt Panasonic was superior video-wise too, but Sony just seemed to be the fav mainly due to the AF point you mentioned, and canon has good photography reputation, which would obviously spill over into their hybrid cameras. I don't think we disagree...
Panasonic features are usually to fix problems like lack of dynamic range or other annoying quirks that shouldn't have been there in the first place. I guess they are good for people who don't like to use mounts, are happy with manual focus and need a decent internal anamorphic mode.
The lens selection however is the biggest obstacle I think personally.
They are really good value but there are pros and cons to Sony, Canon and Panasonic. The influencers switch gear like no one's business stoking the brand rivalry. Pretty sure Chris has been getting paid to use Panasonic for like a year anyway 😅

@@walrusgumboot You can adapt almost anything to e mount it's much more versatile.
I'm an FX6 shooter so there is nothing on offer from Panasonic as a way of comparison.
Mirrorless don't offer all the tools I need day-to-day for the work I do.
If I were to get a b-cam it would be an FX3 for continuity.
I think for content creators, vloggers and entry level Panasonic is a great choice.
It's not the right eco system for me though and I think it's illogical for people to switch eco systems more than once in their career from a financial perspective.
All the cameras now are amazing anyway so who cares, just choose which brand you are drawn to and enjoy!
I just sold my new S5II and bought a Canon R6 mark II. I'm happy with that!

I have $2100 to work with. I’m going from GH5 to the S5 or S5ii. The question is, do I get the S5ii with the kit lens and no other lenses for an extended period of time? OR do I get the S5 with the kit lens and 85mm f1.8 for $100 less?
