That’s awesome. It looks so good. This is the kinda thing I’m looking for. I want more of a planetarium vibe. Like actual animated things. Nebulas & galaxies slowly twirling or planets or etc. stars twinkling. Shooting.
I'm thinking same thing too - I want something less static. Just wondering if it's worth looking at a portable data projector and then having full control over what it projects? (Eg any space image or video I can find)

Thanks for this! I'm still deciding between DS1 and Flux so it's awesome to see both on your channel. Without price being a factor which do you rate as a more realistic option? I'm after that feeling of looking at the night sky under the stars. Keep up the awesome work!
The DS1 has the high resolution chrome disc, nicer shooting stars, so more "realism" perhaps. But I'd say overall the Flux is probably the more all around cohesively developed product.
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE it's a tough choice! Do both have a similar high resolution (chrome disc aside) ? Any issues with blurring? Also any preference on the disc options for each? Would be cool to see a comparison of the two in a video.
@@themurge I plan to do a video comparison one day if there's enough interest! Just to be clear, the DS1 is the superior image technology if we want to call it that, with higher resolution discs, BUT all things considered (pricing largely), I think the Homestar Flux may be a bit more within reach and an easier to use product / more practical product for the general public, with near similar results to the untrained eye. I bought the Bliss Light a while ago after seeing your Vid. I have it sitting on an angle with a box of matches beneath and shining at the wall behind the TV. Even with my side lamp as well as the brightness of the TV it doesn't diminish the light show by much, so i imagine your SEGA Homestar would be even better, might get one.
Looks really cool, but how practical is it for teaching about stars and constellations, if it has them all in the wrong places; for example I see at 8:00 that it has Taurus where Lepus should be - at Orion's feet, rather than charging from behind his shield which is where Taurus actually belongs
Hello, this is first of all a very2 useful information. Thanks for the reivew. But I am wondering if you have any idea about the homestar lite product. It surely has a more affordable price. I wonder what's the difference between the original one. Thanks.
Probably, but the darker the room the better the result, as you can see from my demo, there is still a lot of light spilling through from outside and it still works okay on my grey concrete ceiling.
Hello, I have seen other models in which you can choose the projection date, in this one it is not possible. I would like to know how you do it to know it, and some tips to know how you do the set-up to observe constellations. Thank you!
Hey Julian, just wondering how you would compare this to the Galaxy 2.0? I feel like it's between those two for me. Given the flux is 100 cad more than the Galaxy with no lasers or color change, is the res/brightness that much better to justify the extra cost?🤔 I feel like I already know the answer for myself, but would love to hear your input since you've actually used all these and perhaps the flux has advantages im not aware of, cheers
They are two totally different devices with different feels. The laser projector you can use with other ambient lights, where as the home planetarium you need to be in next to complete darkness for it to have a good effect! Depends on if you want to more actively watch/observe the unit go for the flux, but if you want to use it to add more ambiance, then go for the galaxy laser projector!
Also at the edges you do get some blur .. perhaps if it was in a particular size room.. and perfectly central to that room that would improve that.. all in all it looks amazing and I love it.
Hi, I've enjoyed watching this review of yours. Very helpful. Still, I was wondering if you can enlighten me somehow, because I still have doubts in buying one. I'm actualy looking for a projector that has dimmer lights, as if we're seeing actual skies. I remember visiting the Titanic exhibition the other day, and there's this deck replica, where it brought you the experience of being in a real ship, on a cold windy night. Still gives me the shivers everytime I remember it. The sky was dark with dimmed stars. Well in real life, stars won't be seen that bright right? So I was wondering if this project could fit my expectation? By your review I assumed that this projector is too bright and too rich in content. I dont really favor colors and . I just want a few dimmed stars. What do you think?
Even at its brightest setting, it’s still pretty dim and needs next to complete darkness to work. There are also brightness settings so you can dim it further although I found that unnecessary. A lot of it is dependant on the discs you use. Avoid the more colourful discs and you’ll get a darker scene. I think you’ll be pleased based on what your looking for.
Thanks for this video, I love the production quality of your videos. May I ask what discs you recommend for this projector? I ordered the "disappearing continent", "earth and moon" and the "galaxies" by sega toys.
Hey man! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. I was pretty pleased with the 17 disc pack. Although my favourites were the solar system, or ones showing planets personally.
Hi I bought flux in 2019, as I kept it in packing for long time satin black finish rubber outer coating became degraded and sticky. 😢. I have used alcohol wipes and water now the rubber cover completely gone. It was soo shiny and crisp with that cover. Is there any possibility to buy it's rubber coating cover? I tried contacting sand blaster service here in Hyderabad, India, they all have no idea about it.
I feel like the edge of the projection should be feathered more to break up that perfectly circular projection. It just takes away from image, imo. It'd be nice if they offered a way to adjust that.
Overall, if I were buying I'd probably go with this one personally. But doesn't mean DS1 doesn't have it's advantages! This one is brighter too, but they both require lights out anyhow to be experienced best so somewhat irrelevant imo.
I really want the DS1 but it's A) super expensive B) no longer comes with the backlight C) they don't seem to value customers. Reading T&C if you are outside the US you have to pay for shipping for returns even if it's faulty. Seems like the Flux is the only real option for a proper planetarium. PS. I would pay more for the DS1 but there's just too much working against them on this one.
The uncle Milton star Theatre Pro and the Sega toys, star theater home planetarium projectors are really good Things are using your room or any place in your home.
In speaking of planarians and stars in general, the eclipse is coming soon by this April so please make a chance to make a trip to a place where the eclipse can be seen. If you don’t have any places near you that you can be able to see the eclipse. Well I’m sorry that you missed your chance.
I believe this is the same projector that was used in Mare of East town web series in a scene, since than I was searching for this product, the price is Little high, in India it may cost 20000 rs. So it's my dream product and I will buy this one day.
hello , thank you for your video, I also saw your video for the DS-1. I'm hesitating between the two, I have two questions for you please: The Ds-1 is surely better but does it justify spending so much money? , isn't Flux enough? or do you really see a huge difference in quality between the two? The ceiling projection size varies depending on the projection distance. I don't have a lot of distance, between the floor and my ceiling I have 250cm (98inch) and I will place the Ds1 or flux 60cm from the floor so 250-60 =190cm (74 inch), can you tell me what projection surface I will have on the ceiling approximately in comparison with your tests? flux and Ds1 have different throw to distance ratio values?thank
For your first question, I think the flux is more than enough and much better value, second question I don't know off the top of my head. Also you can checkout my latest video I released tonight for a budget planetarium!
So to get a more immersive experience would you have to set up more than one. For example is I wanted a image on the ceiling and the wall. Also does any of the images move or rotate. Thanks.
The issue with setting up more than one might end up in overlap depending on where you place them because the projection. Is circular and walls and ceilings are often square/rectangle etc.

Very cool! Thanks for watching.
Why did you not keep the camera still when showing it off?
According to you which is better, the sega homstar flux or the dark skys ds1 which you reviewed couple of months back?
Well, better is relative depending on what you value in a planetarium projector. The Sega is definitely the better deal, but the DS1 is more high end.
Would this work better with a black ceiling? Thinking maybe a projector sheet?
No, it would work best with a white ceiling to be honest. Black will absorb the light and is not a good projection surface.
Bought one, it's pretty good!
Great to hear!
So….do you like the DarkSky or Sega better?… after having for awhile.
The Sega is more practical to use, and most more cost effective!
Is there a ceiling color that best shows the projections? In other words, do the projections show well on a white ceiling?
Yes, white ceiling is ideal in a dark room.
Looks really cool, but how practical is it for teaching about stars and constellations, if it has them all in the wrong places; for example I see at 8:00 that it has Taurus where Lepus should be - at Orion's feet, rather than charging from behind his shield which is where Taurus actually belongs
What color and finish ceiling would you recommend to get the best experience with? (White? Black? Matt, Flat, Eggshell etc)
White ceiling in a pitch black room will work the best.
Hello, this is first of all a very2 useful information. Thanks for the reivew. But I am wondering if you have any idea about the homestar lite product. It surely has a more affordable price. I wonder what's the difference between the original one. Thanks.
Homestar Flux has much better projection, more power and more useful features.
Does this work in a bigger rooms with a bit of light/not complete darkness? Would love to see a demo of that.
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE thanks for the reply I went with the Galaxy already, so sounds as though I picked the right one🙏
👍🏼 Noise? Max throw distance?
Good questions! Thanks for watching. The max projection distance according to the specs from manufacturer say about 9.5 feet. Noise was very minimal.
Oh my goodness! Looks amazing but price. It certainly cost that money but way out of my budget. Any way thank you for directing me to this video!
No problem, thanks for watching Sergey, best of luck with your channel.
Just ordered one .. Will let people know my feedback when it arrives .
It's not perfect.. but I do love it and would recommend it to anyone who might be interested.
@@alpacaslapper282 Is the light dimmable? What concerns have you had?
I have not seen a way to dim the light .. it all depends on what disc you are using. Northern hemisphere is darker than a nebula for example.
Also at the edges you do get some blur .. perhaps if it was in a particular size room.. and perfectly central to that room that would improve that.. all in all it looks amazing and I love it.
do you need to place it in the centre of a room or does it work well at an angle from the side of a room (e.g. on a side unit / low shelf)?
Works fine at an angle, most important thing is just using in a dark enough room.
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE great thanks, and do you know roughly what distance from the ceiling you need it to get a particular coverage?
Any recommendations for an inexpensive short throw projector! Would love to find something like the apeman, but short throw. Love your content!
Thanks for watching! Depends on how you classify inexpensive - Short throw projectors are still very expensive (2000+) from what I've seen!
Great video! Which disc is the one shown at 08:07?
Thanks! Not sure off the top of my head, but was apart of the 17 disc pack.
I was wondering the same thing! Looks gorgeous. I’m buying one of these in the next few months so I’ll let you know if I can find out 👍
Sky disc space exploration
Is that off the ceiling or are you using like a mat on the ceiling just got mine n can’t get it to focus like yours
6:40 I show the focus ring - adjust accordingly to achieve the correct focus.
Wow, that's a high quality one. I guess it better be for the price haha.
Yup, one of the more realistic projectors for sure! Thanks for watching!
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE oh ic. Got yr point. Thanks alot for the explanation. Wish d best for your channel here.
@@ernitansilianto2147 No Problem! Please consider using the links in the description to make purchases to help support the channel! Thanks Erni
Where can i buy theirs 17 desc pack package at? Thankfull for answers
Really cool device, great video!
Thanks for watching!
Are the images in movement?
The discs rotate, to reveal different parts at different times. So it will be a more or less be different image or so every 5 minutes.
Is it loud or quiet? For bedtime purposes
Quiet
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE ooh nice
hey can I get a link to your desk chair in the back? looks comfy and don't see a link anywhere
I actually have ordered a new one to make a video on, but it's been on back order for months. It's on Wayfair - search Pillow Task Chair
I feel like the edge of the projection should be feathered more to break up that perfectly circular projection. It just takes away from image, imo.
It'd be nice if they offered a way to adjust that.
How would you compare this to the Dark Sky’s DS1 Home Planetarium? Is it the same or is one brighter than the other?
Overall, if I were buying I'd probably go with this one personally. But doesn't mean DS1 doesn't have it's advantages! This one is brighter too, but they both require lights out anyhow to be experienced best so somewhat irrelevant imo.
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE Alright, sounds like a winner to me! Thanks for the response and keep up the good work!
@@danwashereman Yup, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, appreciate your support!
I’d like to see a review of their new model the “Mataki”
Dopest item yet!! Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching Rob!
Well done review. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks for watching and supporting!
Where can i purchase the additional disks? They're not on Amazon
Are there any other discs apart from night sky?
What about a Renaissance palace ceiling,
like the ones painted by Tiepolo?
They make lots of discs, search on Amazon or the Sega Toys website!
I want to add something like this in my geodesic dome. Would it project on a circular dome or does it need a flat square ceiling? Thanks!
I think a circular dome would be the most ideal to be honest!
I'm hesitating between the two, I have two questions for you please:
The Ds-1 is surely better but does it justify spending so much money? , isn't Flux enough? or do you really see a huge difference in quality between the two?
The ceiling projection size varies depending on the projection distance. I don't have a lot of distance, between the floor and my ceiling I have 250cm (98inch) and I will place the Ds1 or flux 60cm from the floor so 250-60 =190cm (74 inch), can you tell me what projection surface I will have on the ceiling approximately in comparison with your tests? flux and Ds1 have different throw to distance ratio values?thank
For your first question, I think the flux is more than enough and much better value, second question I don't know off the top of my head. Also you can checkout my latest video I released tonight for a budget planetarium!
no words to the 2 basic discs or the comet ...
The included discs as well as the shooting star function were all included in the demo.
How come Amazon doesn’t sell this one?
Where's the desk chair from!? I've been looking for something cool
Wayfair - Oren Ellis pillow task chair - I actually ordered a new one to do a video on, but it's been on back order for months!
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE cool! Looking forward to it!
Good morning, I have a homestar flux but its electronic board has stopped working, do you know if you can get that electronic board? thank you
So to get a more immersive experience would you have to set up more than one. For example is I wanted a image on the ceiling and the wall. Also does any of the images move or rotate. Thanks.
It's designed to be used as one unit on the roof, throw is pretty wide. The projector can rotate the discs meaning the projected image moves/rotates.
@@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE ok. cool. thanks for the feedback. great channel btw
The issue with setting up more than one might end up in overlap depending on where you place them because the projection. Is circular and walls and ceilings are often square/rectangle etc.
What disc did it come with ??
I have a ceiling fan smack in the middle of my ceiling. How will this work with that.
$6 like new at goodwill cant wait to try it
