  • WELCOME to a Wandering Scholar production; To all my subscribers, it is my pleasure to see you back !
After returning to China at the end of March, the prospect of flying internationally became ever slimmer. This video is the first of many to come series of domestic aviation in mainland China. In the end of May, I had the opportunity to participate in Jiangxi Air’s inaugural ARJ21 flight from Nanchang to Shanghai.
My very first flight onboard the very first China made regional jet was an uneventful one. ARJ21 has completed its maiden flight back in 2008 but only recently did it enter the fleet of major airlines in China. The home made aircraft resembles closely to the Mad dogs but has undesirable fuel consumption and cruising altitude limitation.
Jiangxi Air’s cabin interior is nothing out of ordinary with economy class only configuration. ARJ-21 may be a landmark for China’s COMAC - Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, but with no foreign certifications and lacklustre economies, it has a long path to trek before claiming its native sky.

Even though it’s a McDonnell Douglas copy I think it has great potential. They need to work on the sound dampening more but other than that I wish them success ❤️

Interesting regional aircraft. Thanks for sharing your experience. It's always hard to tell on videos, but it did seem rather loud on the plane especially since you were sitting near the front. It's great to see that the crew had high service standards which will definitely improve the overall experience. Great video!

A beautiful video - thank you very much for sharing! Interesting that they made a plane that only carries a maximum of 90 passengers? I wonder if it can be profitable in the long term? Porter Air in Toronto has even smaller planes making 1-2 hour flights but you pay for it. Would this plane be up to international standards to fly outside of China? (or... would they be looking at entering the market to sell worldwide?) Most importantly, I am happy to see that you are safe and healthy. May your second half of 2020 be better than the first.

Thanks for you kind words :) ARJ-21 is certainly not the most profitable regional jet. There are only two dozen of them flying four years after entering commercial service. The aircraft is yet to be certified by FAA or EASA so international operations is very limited.

@@christopherpericolosi-king4979 Following to the fact. This plan has submited to FAA under CFR-25 since 11 yrs ago. But it was politic blocked since then.
US has patronaged it's subordinate countries such Canada and Brazil on this plane category. Now seems they will allow addition one but same old design to the prior both that is Japanese MRJ to US market soon.

Considering it's China's first ever commercial jet, I'd say it's a triumph. It was delayed so much that the design is even more dated now.
The engines attached to the fuselage is the reason for all the noise, the vibrations should be soaked up by the wings like they are on Airbus/Boeing aircraft.
Interested to see the future of COMAC planes though!

Great report. One thought, with mask wearing it is already difficult to hear clearly & more so in a noisy environment. I note some others have invested in a wireless microphone. Worth a look?

Your “Did you know” highlighted note (4:32) is completely incorrect and indeed needs to be clarified again! No idea where you get that statement, “....branded as ‘Jingang Mountain’...” from, but ARJ-21 is publicly dubbed and named by COMAC as “XiangFeng” or direct translation is called Soaring Phoenix. If you insisted to call it that way as word “branded”, then it would only good name calling for that particular Jiangxi Airline registered aircraft (e.g. former Pam Am “Clipper Bald Eagle” or Qantas livery names) flight or internal COMAC’s ARJ-21 development program (highly doubt they had two different program names) but definitely not the true ARJ-21 name (e.g. B787 Dreamliner).

@Hoy Sum Not sure what your talking about. Both Russia (SCAA) and China (CAAC) have their own certification authority. EASA works with SCAA on certification/testing programs. CAAC was actually the last hold-out in raising issues with the FAA regarding the certification of the 737 MAX aircraft after EASA folded to political pressure.
