- Next up on my first impressions of the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Nintendo Switch Remake series is chapter 5! I also managed to find my first (and hopefully only) game crash along the way.

Fun fact: You can actually get the Keel Mango right away now! You no longer need to wait for... whenever it was it became available. Flavio even has unique dialogue if you give it to him when he asks for an item. He mentions how it is indeed island-chic, but Mangos "don't agree with him".

Makes me curious about what the Spanish translation did for him, like a different dialect or something.
Same, I was literally talking to my gf, she's Latina, about it and it just feels so much better than throwing in "amigo" at the end of his sentences like in the original

So I've worked with classified information. You often have an unclassified general-purpose computer that can connect to wifi and then a classified computer that is only connected to the classified internal network and it is absolutely imperative that the two do not mix.
Of course, if Grodus's computer *were* classified, then it'd absolutely need a password at the very least. Passwords for classified computers have stricter requirements than regular passwords and expire faster, too.

Wanna hear a slightly amusing glitch that I found in this game? Go to the battle dojo and pick Goombella. Then, do her multibonk and successfully pull off her two stylish moves before the action command and then fail the action command. Keep doing this over and over again and see what happens to Goombella.

unlike gamecube, this game could actually get patched.
Grodus's computer is air-gapped. It's a pretty common thing when a computer is used for things that require some measure of absolute secrecy (like private keys for certificate signing)
At first I thought so as well, but how would Peach be able to access the network from Grodus's computer if it's not connected?
I think TEC just never got to analyse the content of the disk because either he didn't exist until Grodus had already sealed it away, or because TEC knew it was briefly on the network, but didn't have the time to pull it before it got disconnected

its kind of interesting that despite flavio is like, super selfish enough to want the cola to himself, he's still nice enough to take something bland like a coconut for it, especially knowing its bobberys final wish.

Also, why the hell would Scarlette give Podley, a random-ass bartender, a letter intended for her husband? Why not just leave it in her house? He was bound to come back some day and find it there.
Also-also, I get that Podley wouldn't want to bother Bobbery right after his loved one died, but after a few weeks of that, wouldn't seeing him blame himself and continue to mourn his wife be the perfect time to give him the letter? On the account of, you know, that being exactly what Scarlette asked Podley to do because she knew Bobbery would?
But what do y'all think of this?
My headcanon is that Scarlette and Podley had a fling. It explains everything from Podley not delivering the letter to why Scarlette would give Podley the letter in the first place.
Seeing your closest friends go through some tough shit can make you feel bad and act stupidly. Maybe he thought that giving Bobbery the letter would just make him feel even worse about things and do something foolish. Podley had no way of knowing what Scarlette wrote in the letter, so perhaps he was worried that it would be something that might make Bobbery tip over the edge. The game leaves it vague enough that you can come up with your own answers about this stuff.
Also, I assume that Scarlette knew that Podley and Bobbery were good friends, and she wanted to make absolute sure the letter would make it to him. If she just left it on a table or something, it could've been missed for weeks or months if Bobbery was more focused on his freshly dead wife as opposed to looking for letters she left for him.
As he said, he regretted not giving the letter, but most people find it extremely difficult to rectify a mistake like that since it would mean admitting to the person that you made this mistake that affected them negatively. Especially after it had been a while of not giving the letter it’s a large enough mistake that most, Podley obviously included, would rather just bury it rather than admit their mistake. Obviously it’s the morally wrong decision, but it is also a very understandable one.
considering his final wish when dying is "chuckola cola" a drink that sounds like something you would find in a bar, my guess is bobbery was a regular at the bar, so he'd obviously be close to the bartender, both him and his wife.
his wife probably gave it to him, knowing bobbery would be too sad, so she wanted the letter delivered once he felt better, but as he said, bobbery was so focused and heartbroken trying to get over her passing and blaming himself, he obviously wouldn't have the courage to give him the letter, especially when you consider that podley doesn't know whats written IN the letter, and for all he knew, it could've made bobbery even more depressed.
and mario NEEDING bobbery to return to the sea was the push podley needed to deliver the letter, as regardless on the outcome, if bobbery wants to return to the sea, or doesn't, he deserves to hear his wifes final words to him to finalize bobbys resolve on if he really wanted to give up on the sea or not.

I LOVE that they made Cortez more Spanish now! Also, Flavio still stands as the most powerful thousand year door character. Possible RIP for "The adventures of Flavio" though.

In regards to Vivian, I buy into her not knowing the villains plans because it was all orchestrated by Beldam. Do you really think Beldam would tell Vivian the plan? Sure it could be explained better when it comes to Vivians awareness of the villains plan, but logically it would make sense that Beldam wouldn't tell her their true intention or even what the plan would fully intact. She likely even kept Peach being on the moon a secret
I remember something about Beldam being the only one to actually personally know the Shadow Queen since she's the oldest, as well

Don't know if someone mentioned it already. But fog is now a seperate state for u and the opponent side. So if u appeal with bobbery only clears ur side and fucks u over ^^ learned that the hard way ;D
That is a weird change.. like now instead of a kinda benefit it's now a nerf to appeal with Bobbery
@@BaconNuke i havent tried how fog behaves when u attack with bobbery or use an ice storm. U just need to get rid of the fog on the opponents side on not all together. I wouldnt call that a nerf directly, imo
The L button (you can't use because you're on a GC controller) is super useful to keeping the Train Chapter going. I knew what to do generally, but it helped remind me which flags needed to be triggered to get an event to progress.
I completely forgot about that hint system. I just finished chapter 6 today and forgot the order of events so I looked up which room to go to after discovering the paper in Zip Toad's room. How stupid of me!
Just a heads up, they added new dialogue lines for Vivian during the X-Naut fortress. I think it’s pretty cool.
are there new lines for every partner or just Vivian? (Don't tell me them I have not gotten to that part yet.)

you should spread news of the crash. Nintendo might fix it with a patch.
for power lift, red ones will stop showing up when you reach +4 and blue ones will stop showing up if you also reach +4 defense.
So the hard limit is roughly +4 of each.
Cortez's remade theme is my favourite music in the remake,What's your favourite remade theme?
tbh a lot of the remade songs were harder to love than the entirely new ones, Chapter 6/7(Fahr)’s battle themes are the best pieces of music in the game highkey, but the best new piece imo is X-Naut Fortress simply cuz it’s so similar and a new version of an iconic ass song
21:30 You know, I never even knew those blocks were there, not that it matters, even without the blocks the shine sprite is in bobbery explosion range if you hold him over your head right at the ledge there, I genuinely thought it was a teaching tool to show Bobbery's blast radius

The spring pad is greatly appreciated, but I wish they’d’ve had Flavio insist on giving the cola to Bobbery himself so that he’s right there at the skull rock when you need the skull gem.
Honestly that would've been a really tasteful way to cut even more backtracking. I like that idea a lot!

Yes Vivian knows about the Shadow Queen and while I don't know why she doesn't talk about the queen more, (maybe because not enough lines were written) Vivian assures us she's fighting for Mario.
I suppose another theory maybe with Beldam's bullying may have also been a factor as to why Vivian didn't talk about the queen that much.
Side note, that block in Hooktails castle, the one with the shortcut pipe, is kind of a jerk, every time I entered the castle for various trouble quests, that block would spawn in it's up position!!! Even tho I left the castle with the block brought down. That shortcut saves me no time!!!! Ugh.
The point is for when you get the badge, not for general use.
That Shine Sprite you got with Koops in the cave is now much more trivial thanks to being able to hammer down. If you just hammer down right in front of the block you can activate both invisible blocks. It makes me wonder if that was always the plan for that puzzle, but they never had enough time to implement 360 degree hammering in TTYD?
After watching a couple other mid players of this game... it really makes me appreciate how good at this game Bringle really is lol

given that you can hammer downwards now you can also get that shine sprite without koops now

I have actually gotten 5 attack with a power lift it’s just you need good luck to get mostly attacks with less defense
Bro, Power Lift combined with Quick Change is so busted. I powered up Yoshi and just kept switching him out after attacking. I beat both Cortez and Lord Crump without taking damage, and in Cortez’s case, he didn’t even get a chance to heal.

My game crashed once in Chapter 2 and I lost so much progress it was heartbreaking, I kept running back and saving after that because I was worried of losing all my time again, but it hasn’t done it since, in chapter 7 now

Maybe power lift is limited by the movements on the board you do? I managed to get a +5/+3 on it once
i THINK the arrows for each stat stop spawning once you hit +4, but if there's already enough of that colour on the board when you get +4, you can still get them before they despawn if you're fast enough. so +4/+4 is the intended max buff but the actual max for a single stat is +5

I think the shopkeeper toad is more for the Cortez fight than the Crump one tbh, since you can access him before that fight

Edit: 30:38 there is a cap for panels for each power and defense you can only get up to +5 in one or the other, as far as I can tell, but it doesn’t end it early; it is entirely timer based. The best you can do totally, at least for me, was get +4 in each. I am sure if the game was running at 60 fps you could get more and using a wired controller.
From my perspective, this Let's Play series is the best way to experience this remake! I loved the game as a kid, but now I only enjoy playing hard games. So while all my gaming time is spent playing very challenging games, i still love watching others play easier games when I'm chilling. Bringle also puts a pro spin on things with his analysis, which is very satisfying. And, I can still appreciate the story because Bringle is reading a lot of the most important dialogue this playthrough. It's awesome that I can experience the game during my chill time like this. But I plan on actually playing the TTYD Hero Mode mod for the original if it gets finished someday.

You don't actually have to do the hover to get the instant acceleration. As long as you hold a direction before you hop on Yoshi he'll start at full speed. It won't help in any instance you have to get up to speed while you're already riding him, but I'm pretty sure it's faster whenever you have to start riding him

IDK WHAT I DID BUT IM UPLOADING IT WHEN I GET A CHANCE. SMORG BUGGED OUT AND STOLE EVERY TURN FROM ME! If Bringle could look into that, that would be sick.
Although the translation seems to be more faithful to the original Japanese (and they fixed a couple translation errors), the drink you give Bobbery was originally just a bottle of vintage wine. I personally think changing it to Chuckola Cola is fine, though it does stick out as the only reference to Mario & Luigi (that I can remember).
Podley and the other characters who look like him are Beanish. This is supported by their names
Also - and purely because I have never seen this addressed on your channel - when Goombella tattles the X-Nauts, she says that the X is supposed to be pronounced like "cross". They like to be referred to as "cross-nauts".
Which, taken on its own, is quirky enemy banter. But then consider that the computer's official name is TEC-XX.
So if you connect all the dots, the game just straight up tells you that TEC will doublecross his masters.
So I found something interesting about this chapter. That mandatory fight where the bulky bob-omb falls from the ceiling isn't actually mandatory. I'm doing a mandatory fights only playthrough right now and when I returned down that hallway I still had the Bill Blasters (cause I had run from the fights) there and the Bulky Bob-omb didn't fall from the ceiling
You know what bothers me is that after chapter 1 grodus refrences that they got the 7th crystal star from rougueport but at the end it goes to far far outpost but even if the rules was that the star goes back to the last place it was at it still wouldn't make since because the xnauts took it to the moon and never was in far far outpost
I mean, the stars seem to have a mind of their own, and my assumption was that each star returned to an area Mario helped in some way where they knew support would be given. The bob-ombs were thrilled Mario brought the cannon back, and wanted to see him succeed
What I'm wondering is just WHERE in rogueport they found that star. I don't think it's ever explicitly stated, though admittedly i don't have a real lock on the npc dialogue, but it had to have been down in the sewers somewhere I'd think.
I always loved the chuckola cola lines because the item references Superstar Saga. Which apparently also got a remaster and Im super happy about it.
And I like how the game is self-aware enough to have the fourth chest spirit just be this jaded guy who knows you know what to expect but he is grateful to you for letting him have this one. Thats honestly a really nice subtle charater building. And the guy even worries if he overdid it.
I didnt expect such a dichotomy my first time around but this is honestly such an overlooked but such a strong cutscene.

My fight with Cortez went by hella quick since I went in with Mario at 1 hp. Every bounce did 10 damage so Cortez literally didn’t even get to play the video game lol
I've been avoiding watching you play a chapter of the remake until I completed the chapter myself so I am a bit late, but I wanted to say the invisible block at 21:31 that in the original you required Koops for can actually be gotten with Mario alone now, due to them adding the ability to hammer in any direction, including directly towards the camera as weird as that looks.
X-nauts would not even be able to tell they are invisible when they are fully clothed in a full body uniform.
I'm pretty sure soup-mix is a turtle soup joke.
Something that bothers me is that Mario doesnt talk in Origami king. It's such a bad design decision. I really love how mario talks again in this remaster of TTYD

Way I always interpreted it was that it all Beldam's plan and hers alone. She wouldn't have trusted Vivian with the details of the plan. Marilyn probably didn't know either.
I think they actually buffed mowz slightly.
Tease is extremely consistent from my experience.
power lift simply ends at +4/+4, and if you get +4 on one stat then panels for it will stop spawning so you can get only +4/+4 at maximum

i dunno if bringle will look a this but you can get at least plus 5 attack with the power lift i think its a matter of rng, cause when i fought against prince mush i had plus 5 attack and plus 1 defense
