Cali GDP closed out 2024 at $4.2 Trillion. The LA Metropolitan area is $1.5+ Trillion GDP as big as all of Florida. Cali GDP was $2.0 Trillion in 2012 when Gavin Newsom became Lt Governor, then 2 terms as Governor, adding $2.2 Trillion GDP in 12 years, a mere 144 months, the greatest economic growth in history. Cali just overtook Germany at #4 economy in the world, Japan up next in a few years at #3. The opportunity and fat paychecks of Cali are the envy of the country. Want to see bleak and no opportunity, go to any red state. Cali is booming. All the penny poor right wingers cheering for Cali's demise is pretty pathetic. Cali will always be the King. 👑

Not capping for insurance companies by any means here, but there is a reason they canceled coverage for many in LA. Risk assessment was too high due to mismanagement, funding cuts, and lack of brush mitigation. The people pay extraordinarily high taxes here, there’s more than enough money available, but it’s foolishly squandered, maybe intentionally.

Wanted to say thank you for this interview. I was not previously familiar with David, now a fan. I found his grasp of the situation insightful , attitude refreshing despite the tragedy. Heartfelt sadness but (somewhat) a hopeful posture helping other musicians , producers , engineers. Keeping a positive attitude in terms of moving forward into the future.
Im a former resident of California now residing in Nashville . My uncle (a sound engineer himself) moved out here about a year and a half ago and I’m really glad he did. He’s had a little trouble adjusting to things , it’s a different vibe but , his career would be (potentially) significantly jeopardized had he stayed
I think a lot of people are reeling and (as mentioned) the true scope of the destruction will take time to really understand. It’s heartbreaking. But art will find a way to endure.
Thank you again for this piece.

One thing that really bothers me is that Americans know their government spends taxpayers' money on unnecessary wars and support for so-called allies, yet there seems to be little collective outcry. Everyone appears preoccupied with their own lives, remaining silent as long as their personal circumstances are comfortable. Instead of wasting billions and trillions of dollars on these ventures, those funds could be better invested in modernizing infrastructure, improving healthcare, education, and addressing pressing social issues that would benefit the nation as a whole.

Israel is one of the most successful countries when it comes to water desalination.
They are at least 85% water independent.
The point is that with all the money, inferstructure and brain power that Cali has, access to the sea and a similar climate like Israel(Mediterranean), why couldn't Newsome and Co. initiate a similar concept.
Even if you didnt drink the desalinated sea water, you'd still have access 24/7 to water to not only fight fires but use for agriculture.
Just an idea but when it comes to this tradegy its too little, too late.

From here in Valencia, Spain, I agree. Some 200 dead in the Autumn floods, many tens of thousands lost their homes and displaced. And 20-30 billion+ in damages, and rising. We drove through the hardest hit areas just South of Valencia at the weekend, and months after the deluge, it's still looking like the aftermath of the Apocalypse. Folded over road infrastructure. Military trucks and troops. Heavy moving vehicles everywhere. Fields turned into makeshift dumps, mostly filled with destroyed vehicles, everything covered in orange mud. And just piles and piles of cars, deep and high, tens of thousands of cars as I understand it. The response to the disaster unfolding was not what it should have been too. We've been thinking for a while of where might work for a residential studio. And it's exactly as you say. We have similar fire risks in this province to parts of California too, especially in the regions bordering the many national parks. The Bejis and Alicante wildfires were out of control too in recent years.

This is not a failure of the fire dept. It is simple physics. The fire hydrant system is NOT designed to use many hydrants at once. It is designed for localized fire fighting, like a typical house fire.
When you tap many hydrants at once you will reduce the water pressure tremendously, especially in the hills. Not to mention all the open pipes from burned structures.
Try running your washing machine, dishwasher, and turn on all the taps in and around your house, then try to take a shower, and maybe you will understand the problem. :)

A green shoot response in a wasteland of vacuousness, however, this is not the place for reasonable discourse. What is reasonable, is David thinking about relocating. All people in the country living in flood plains, along fault lines, and in fire plains should do the same. Instead, people continue to do three things: (1) rebuild in those places, (2) complain and (3) cause all Americans to repeatedly bail them out financially through Federal taxation and higher premiums.

That's still an unacceptable explanation. California loves to remind everyone that they are the 5th largest GLOBAL economy. So they have the money and resources to invest in whatever projects they deem necessary and beneficial. California has always, regardless of climate change, dealt with massive wildfires. It is the single most common sort of environmental threat they face. Yet on a near-annual basis, for the last 10 years at least, there is at least one fire that grows so out of control that it requires they call up every fire dept in the Western U.S. to come help put out the blaze. California should be the undisputed leaders in fire prevention, mitigation and overall fire science. They should have a well-developed system in place to prevent wildfires from exploding so quickly, and they should have more advanced systems for firefighting ready to deploy at any moment, especially at times of high fire danger. Considering the weather and all other warning signs there's absolutely no reason that L.A. didn't have a plane or two fueled up and ready to take off at a moment's notice. The State, County and City governments have all been given plenty of millions over the years to be completely, 100% prepared for this very predictable event. L.A. has long known the danger and potential consequences of an uncontrollable burn in the city. They've had the money and they've had a long, long time to put the necessary systems in place to prevent something like this.

Facts are indeed indisputable, but it’s best to get your facts straight before making disputable claims. For example:
    1. The Fire Dept budget WASN’T cut.
    2. The fire chief WASN’T fired by the mayor.
    3. Fire experts from around the world have acknowledged that no city in the world has enough water to maintain pressure when 6,000 homes are burning.
There will be thorough investigations of all aspects of these fires and how they were handled. The one thing we know for certain is that global warning is the base cause, and these catastrophes will escalate until we address it.

Part of American AltRock music for my buds in the early 80's was ALWAYS highly political. For years we've wondered
what happened, a total pop sell out to please the man or what. We artists were some of the first to connect the very things like Palestine and Ukraine
with the karma of the West's homeless veterans and families, as now only something like nature can fully demonstrate ... The hurricanes, the weather war fires, the insane
behavior of so-termed 'authority' including wanton darkness openly purveyed from HollyFried as the media and edu roots on the addled college children ...
All Planned?! Maybe, when there is zero push back from anyone. I've seen firemen abandon their rigs and run for their lives, fire is worse than earthquakes folks,
"watching it just come closer and closer". Two years ago my town here in New Mexico was evacuated, having to leave not knowing
if you'll return, thankful for the moving vehicle and actual safety. So I know some of this first hand too. DEI, Newsonb, and people looking the other way
doesn't seem to be the correct answer Americans. No one cares about the Administration's current forcing of Putin to bring down the real and final fiery Armageddon on
the very real evils of this very lost Nation of ours, when are we going to speak up and right the wrongs each of us is guilty of?! Sex trafficked children,
BioLabs of C19/25 madness, planned. Hello musicians and gifted HUE-mans, we got to get back on these things, as the Holy singular Being this planet always was, and still can be. It just don't happen by Itself.
