I bought Legion in the fall of -94. I was fifteen years old. I remember before I bought it, the cover pic was patched on the backs of many a member of Oulu’s most feared gang roaming the streets at night - but then again some wore Iron Maiden patches, so I went into the record store thinking, ’it can’t be too heavy, can it?’. At the same time I bought Morbid Angel’s Blessed are the Sick. What can I say. Satan Spawn the Caco-Daemon blew my mind. It was the heaviest thing I had ever heard, nothing came even close. And it persists to this day and sounds just as good right now, 30 years later.
This reminds me of when I first picked up a Napalm Death album. To call it heavy would be an understatement. I thought my car speakers were going to explode lol
First album i bought was Vile from Cannibal and got home and had to wait till everyone was away and asleep and I would be so nervous to play it,lol, I would turn it off many times and look around me to check if I was still safe, lol.
As much as I appreciate Deicide, I love Morbid Angel........(not all of it, but. Lol). Then again, when I wanna -for lack of words, 'really get the anger out', I'll crank some F'n Deicide. Some select tracks though. Like "Slave to the Cross", "Once Upon the Cross' (I mean, Fu**...that intro CHUWG, CHURGH, CHORG,CHAWG, 🤪). Of course, I'll turn back the clock for some "Carnage in the Temple of the Damned" and $h!t like that too. Anyway. Hello fellow metal fan.

Beyond Glen and Deicide, this interview is really interesting. Specially when they talk about life, marriage, business and music industry but from another point view, and those kind of things made a good interview. I feel like Glen is talking real sh!t right here. Good job Chris 👏👏👏
I came home from the mall with the first album, & my mom actually knew what the band name meant & flipped out! She even made me read the lyrics of Sacrificial Suicide out loud to the family! 😩 Didnt stop me of course, they became my favorite band.
GB is such a genuine person, this interview is a great look inside the man and his life, thanks for setting it up, if someone has never seen or heard Deicide, they really should take a look.
Dude, these interviews are great, I can feel you're a real maniac when it comes to the heavy music scene and that makes this enjoyable to listen to. Thank you!
This is hands down one of the best podcast episodes/interviews/conversations I've seen in my life. No exaggeration. And this is regardless of the subject. I am referring in general. Definitely, one of the best ever. Thanks!
I remember when Glenn used to literally burn an upside down cross into his forehead during the nineties lol. I wish Glenn and the Hoffman brothers would make amends and get back together. They created some of the most iconic sounding death metal music. Once Upon the Cross and Serpents of the Light are awesome albums and I have them in my cars cd rotation lol. People always hate on the production of the Serpents album but that album is a banger imo.
First off, this is fkn great, Amon still gets played regularly around here and has been for over 30 years, also the first album and legion as well, Deicide has always been a step above the rest , theyve outlasted alot of bands alongside Obituary.
This is gold!! Glen Benton is and will always be a legend. Deicide has been a go-to band since mid 90’s. Serpents of the Light was my first of them. Still a top five for me, all timers. Thanks for the interview and thanks Glen. 🤘🏻
Amazing how a Death Metal legend can offer you a ton of positive tips and comments that you can apply to your own life and become a better person. I THANK YOU Glenn I loved this interview and so glad your still making music after all these years 🙌
I saw Deicide one time about 17 years ago and holy shit it was a great show. I just remember being mesmerized with Glen, he had a great stage presence and it was heavy and loud and brutal. All the florida d.m. bands of the 90s were such a great scene 🤘💀🤘
I went to my first DEICIDE show for their Legion tour! Steve was cool and signed My DEICIDE Cd and after glen was cool and signed it & some fans stuff as well , signed my friends Long sleeve tour shirt. Best early birthday gift!
I saw and got to hang out with Glen and Steve around the serpents of the light era. Glen as well as Steve were super nice and very inviting and chill. I love Deicide I always have and if there was ever any confusion, they are great guys and actually pretty funny. Just good fun solid dudes.
I've seen the band in Monterrey, Mexico. And each show has impacted me, the dedication, the respect for people. The passion is noticeable. Thanks Glen.
Very well done on interviewing Glen. You did an excellent job of knowing the right times to ask the questions and importantly when to move on. You brought the best out in a guy that needs someone to be in sync- great work and this channel will definitely go places if you keep bringing it.
Thank you for this interview!! Glen NEVER does interviews this was amazing as a Tampa Bay Native and extremely interested in stories of the legends of the area this is epic! Would be epic if you could get Trey from Morbid Angel on
Great podcast, I've been into Deicide for a couple of decades and Glen seems like such a chill guy these days. Thanks for this and keep up the good work!
I'd crawl through broken glass to have seen Deicide back in the early to mid 90s. They were the pinnacle.... the Balrog of death metal. And they all used B.C. Rich guitars. Serpents isn't their best album but that was definitely Glen's best performance and the greatest in all of death metal, IMO. I first saw them in 2000 when I turned 18 and they were still incredible. Got to speak with Glen a little before the show, then Steve after outside. He was super nice and gave me some drum tips. Glad to see Glen content and doing well these days.
I gotta sub to this man, just catching up on a few interviews and you've had two greats on that you just never see on any other podcast. Glen's gotta be one of my favorite vocalists and personalities. Dude is just doing his thing.

Glen is waaaay cooler and down-to-earth than I anticipated. This was my first exposure to the Garza Podcast, and with Mr. Benton being the guest, this was a heck of a way to get my feet wet.
I think I bought it in '94 and was blown away. I had the Medallion album and that was solid, but not nearly as intense. Downhill from there, so I quit following around 2001. Watched a video from the latest album. Definitely got some mojo again.
Saw Deicide at the Firebird here in STL a few years back. Met Glen outside while smoking a cigarette. He said he was just out there to avoid people, but talked my ear off. Cool dude.

oh man, what a time to be alive, watching interview with the Glen Benton
Beyond Glen and Deicide, this interview is really interesting. Specially when they talk about life, marriage, business and music industry but from another point view, and those kind of things made a good interview. I feel like Glen is talking real sh!t right here.
Good job Chris 👏👏👏
Once Upon The Cross is one of the best records ever....love that album
FINALLY someone that worships something besides Legion!!! This one, and Serpents are actually two of my faves.
you are correct. my favorite. perfect start to finish
Agreed. Wasn't a huge Legion fan. Once Upon sounded so much better to me.
I came home from the mall with the first album, & my mom actually knew what the band name meant & flipped out! She even made me read the lyrics of Sacrificial Suicide out loud to the family! 😩 Didnt stop me of course, they became my favorite band.
Deicide = killer of god🤘
Thank you!
Thank you Garza! Omg finally u had the mighty Glenn Bentton on, been wishin & waitin bro & u knocked it outta the park 👍
Awesome interview. This is the best one I've ever heard with Glen. Thanks for not asking the same old shit that we've heard for 30 years.
This is hands down one of the best podcast episodes/interviews/conversations I've seen in my life. No exaggeration. And this is regardless of the subject. I am referring in general. Definitely, one of the best ever. Thanks!
Great interview!! A dream guest would be Trey / Morbid Angel.
Hell yes wow I'd watch Glen for hours. Get more old school death metal guys please
I THANK YOU Glenn I loved this interview and so glad your still making music after all these years 🙌
Knocked it out of the park with Glen Benton. Great interview.
I saw Deicide one time about 17 years ago and holy shit it was a great show. I just remember being mesmerized with Glen, he had a great stage presence and it was heavy and loud and brutal. All the florida d.m. bands of the 90s were such a great scene 🤘💀🤘
Dude this is such an important interview, thank you!
Honestly that’s nice that glens kids are happy and proud of him and wow his oldest 34
I went to my first DEICIDE show for their Legion tour! Steve was cool and signed My DEICIDE Cd and after glen was cool and signed it & some fans stuff as well , signed my friends Long sleeve tour shirt. Best early birthday gift!
Deicide is and always has been my #1 band. This is so cool to watch Glen talk about where he came from to where he is now. Pretty sweet!
I saw and got to hang out with Glen and Steve around the serpents of the light era. Glen as well as Steve were super nice and very inviting and chill. I love Deicide I always have and if there was ever any confusion, they are great guys and actually pretty funny. Just good fun solid dudes.
Did not expect this to be such a good interview. Awesome work
I've subbed , anyone who can interview a musician and let them talk has my respect .
Glen Benton is legend !! It is so cool to have a podcast with him
This was such a great interview. I absolutely love Glen. Can't wait for another interviews.
Glen Benton, thanks for Dechiristianize and Icons of Evil - Vital Remains. HAIL
Thank you for this interview!! Glen NEVER does interviews this was amazing as a Tampa Bay Native and extremely interested in stories of the legends of the area this is epic! Would be epic if you could get Trey from Morbid Angel on
Benton's vocals were vicious. I always loved them.
he's still got it too
My band Trainwrecked will be opening for Deicide on this tour in Reading, PA. Going to be one of the coolest nights of my life.
How was it?
@@ami2evil Incredible bro! Glenn, Steve and Terry from inhuman condition/obituary were as cool as can be and every band killed it.
You can't beat Legion. Words cannot describe how amazingly awesome this record is. Buy this album!! Thank you Glen!
Amazing interview, Glen is a legend, getting better every time!
I gotta sub to this man, just catching up on a few interviews and you've had two greats on that you just never see on any other podcast. Glen's gotta be one of my favorite vocalists and personalities. Dude is just doing his thing.
The music just doesn't lie: Deicide are one of the most sophisticated death metal bands out there!
Really? They sound like shit nothing can be understood
True
Aside Hypocrisy, Hellhammer
Mmm I don’t know about that
@No One Tell me extreme bands with "consistent discography" let me judge your tastes
Glen's voice is sooo soothing I just want him to read me a bedtime story at this point
A horror story could be terrifying 😂
G ay
“Once upon a… *CROSS*”
him and Paul Booth both.
Thanks for this interview!!! One of my favorite bands!!!
This is crazy wow Glen Benton!! I remember buying the 1st album when it 1st came out. 1 of your 1st original fans here. Got everyone into it!! Dead by dawn was 1 of my faves
Wow man!!! Here I am a 51 yr old deicide fan from there first album up until serpents of the light (a great album that should have followed legion IMHO!!) and you have done a great long form interview with Glenn Benton!!!! Than you bro!!! I am now a happy subscriber!!! 🤘💀🤘
Glen is waaaay cooler and down-to-earth than I anticipated. This was my first exposure to the Garza Podcast, and with Mr. Benton being the guest, this was a heck of a way to get my feet wet.
Great content brother 🤘🏻🤘🏻Glen benton is a legend
I always loved Deicide. One of the best live shows ever back in the 90s. I was surprised to see Ralph join by it was still great. Rip Ralph!
Crazy to me to hear that Legion wasn't well received. I bought it when it came out and it was life changing. Incredible album.
I think I bought it in '94 and was blown away. I had the Medallion album and that was solid, but not nearly as intense. Downhill from there, so I quit following around 2001. Watched a video from the latest album. Definitely got some mojo again.
Glenn is such a cool guy. So down to earth. Met him a few times, in Germany, NY and Washington...they never disappoint
Saw Deicide at the Firebird here in STL a few years back. Met Glen outside while smoking a cigarette. He said he was just out there to avoid people, but talked my ear off. Cool dude.
