I wouldn’t have even got out 😅
😂
I suck at backing trailers, so I probably would have had the same problem. The value of having someone closer to the problem giving you directions should not be underestimated! I also have a hard time judging distances.
I would've disconnected and moved the trailer by hand as it doesn't look that heavy
A lot of people might laugh at this, but I give this lady props for stopping before any damage happened, and calling for help when needed. Yes it was pretty simple, but not everyone has experience with a trailer, and the only way to gain that experience is to pull one. There’s no shame in asking for some help when you need it, and in this case it kept both the car and the trailer from being damaged, so that she was able to continue on her trip with no issues.
Absolutely. And awesome that you had her do the driving to gain some experience and, hopefully, some confidence. Still curious how she got it that tied up, but I can’t say too much - I can’t back a trailer up to save my life. Rebuild a motor? No problem. Race motorcycles on and off road? No problem. Back up a trailer? Forget about it.
There is definitely a learning curve involved with backing a trailer up. This was probably her first time ever with a trailer and I bet if she had an extra set of eyes to guide her she probably could have figured it out after a few extra minutes. definitely props to her for knowing her limits and asking for help.
all she needed was a second pair of eyes & some-one who knew the angles ..... i bet many companies would have charged her & mad her feel stupid ..... nicely done Casey
Absolutely correct.. also boy would it be hilarious if nate did youtube 🤣 his life seams to be full of excitement!!
Kudos to the lady for accepting her limitations. Many people (male and female) would rather break something than do that.
She could have pushed a twenty on you, though. You absolutely DID do something she couldn't do, even if it was just verbal instructions.
Asking for help is a lot better than denting car or trailer.....
Yep, because once it's something severe enough that Uhaul needs to know, they'll blame you for EVERY bit of damage that hasn't been repaired yet.
At first, I was shaking my head, but realized just what you said above. Not everyone has trailer experience, and at least she realized she should stop before any damage occurred. And she asked what she owed, which is a bonus because she called for help and did not expect for it to be free. All impressive. Good luck to her.
she also took direction really well.
By making her do the driving, you turned this into a teaching moment. Good job Casey!
She now has muscle memory, because of brand new neurons, created in her brain.
Fair play for making her get into the car and talking her out of the situation!!! most people would automatically jump into the car and do it themselves.... her hesitation when you told her to jump in showed she wasn't overly excited at the prospect
The fact you've talked an inexperienced driver out of the issue without making it a big deal at all will give her a ridiculous amount of confidence moving forward with towing, also credit to her for doing the right thing and knowing when to call for help when she realized she was stuck instead of trying to unhook it or something
Talking about unhooking, that was my first thought too, unhook and manhandle it out of the way, until I saw it was a larger 2-axle trailer, and I drive semi trucks for a living. 😅
@pigletshut same, I didn't even think about the 💦
I need to remember to use driver and passenger instead of left and right. I'm a U-Haul dealer and have come across many people that can't even back the car up without a trailer. You did an excellent job!!
I love renting trailers from U-Haul and watching the relief on the face of the dealer when I slide them right back where they came from. I'm sure you folks see it all.
Your patience and kindness with her were amazing I think every place that rents a trailer should give every customer a basic driving lesson on going forward and backing it in again
Also remember/realize as Casey did a good job of…easy for the driver to “lose” what is straight. Telling her to turn Passenger to get back to Straight is better than just saying “Straight”.
Great job Casey, you didn’t even break a sweat with this one. I have never pulled a trailer and I sure hope I never have to. I would most probably be like this woman in the video. Good to see Nate. Take care, stay safe.
@jessiemae.
Person turns up unable to reverse car before hitching to a trailer. Me, I’m sorry but you are going to have to take out the ‘can’t drive insurance policy’ before you can rent a trailer! 😳
Title; This morning Casey meets 2 people in a pickle.
Hats off to the trailer lady showing great patience and Nate, well, he's just Nate.😂
I loved the "what do I owe you?" 'Nothing... I didn't do anything except teach you how to get out'
Well, would she be able to do it on her own if you put the car and trailer back at the same place?
I doubt it.
You can't really learn when you're just being told exactly what to do.
You need trial and error to learn, which means she needs to see what's happening back there when she does this and that.
And a lot of it, so you can't give up.
But in this case, I think she was afraid of damaging stuff, and then you're not learning... just worrying.
I mean, she couldn't see what was going on back there, right?
So, I get it.
In that situation, she did the right thing.
@@jsjs6751 ah yes, I don't learn how to put a table together when I follow the Ikea instructions because I'm just being told what to do and totally not doing it myself.
Would she be able to do it as well? Probably not, but she could at least try next time. Will she be able to tell if she's about to hit? Maybe not, but she could ask for a rando's help to tell her when to stop instead of needing a specific person next time.
She has more knowledge than she did before, her brain didn't completely deactivate just because she was instructed how to do it. Still a valuable lesson for her.
@reru_personal Oh, I think she tried - that's probably how she got into this mess.
But sometimes you just need to get help.
About the IKEA instructions: There's a distinct difference here. The car, trailer, and pole will probably not ever again be in the exact same spot/position.
If it (always) would, she could easily memorize the movements (instructions like: turn all driver, 1 foot ahead, turn all passenger, 2 feet reverse aso.).
I am pretty sure she would have made it if she had live drone video from above. Then, you get immediate feedback from your actions. And, not the least: she would actually have learned something about how a car and trailer interacts and would probably never have this problem again.
More than anything, I was impressed at how well the lady followed instructions! So many have a heavy throttle foot, or can't figure out when or how far to turn the steering wheel. She did as instructed, and got herself out of that predicament. Well done Casey and lady!
Yup, after consuming so many videos of people who cannot control their vehicles, it was very refreshing to see someone who can control their vehicle!
And not only that, but also calls for help when they find their limit, and calls it before they wreck it all!
I've become used to dropping to 4-low for tight maneuvering. then it just walks instead of having to hit the throttle to get it to move.
She might be a little embarrassed, but that was one heck of a valuable lesson she got for free.
She just needed another set of eyes. As usual respect to you for not charging her and making the most of it by choosing where to buy breakfast instead of only having one choice. Most people would have said they still spent the fuel and wear and tear on the vehicle and your time plus a call out fee. Plus the old you are not paying for me but my knowledge and experience. Respect also to this lady. How many videos show driver of trailers and hgvs caught like this and just power through the obstacle. She stopped when she realised she needed help and left with very minimal damage to the trailer and non on her car or lamp post. And she followed instructions really well. One of my first effects towing a trailer I went 5ft into the driveway next to the one I should have. 15 minutes later I had managed to position my car 15ft back and was completely jack knifed around myself. Fortunately I was only just able to take the correct driveway from this position. I didn't have a Casey so did it myself but I didn't slightly damage my trailer and scratched my car. Sometimes the most important thing to know is you need help.
My daughter used to work at a motel and a guest got herself into a similar predicament. She drove her U-Haul truck under the canopy after being warned not to. She got it wedged in the tight turn. The tow truck driver came and drove it out for her. You guys rock!
Casey, a great way to start a day.
Assisting a distressed motorist, followed with a just reward of consuming a comfort and junk food breakfast combo.
That and Nate doing a "Mia Culpa"... too. Priceless!
For folks not used to trailers, it certainly would look like a heck of a pickle.
I'm used to trailers and it looked like a pickle.
One of those I actually have to be there doing it to figure it out.
Course I learned to tow trailers on a riding lawnmower with a small utility trailer intended for a 4-wheeler atv years before I got my license.
@@erikwilliam1254 Every trailer / tow vehicle combo behaves a little different. An adjustment at times. My boat trailer is easy, my car trailer is sorta easy, backs nice but it is short tongued, so I got to watch over correcting. I also learned on tractors and manure spreaders.
I have a little single axle trailer. It still takes me a while to get used to backing up and turning. Never been stuck or damaged it. I'm sure I have entertained people taking a few tries getting into tight spots.
@@olivei2484 I've backed long, medium and short trailers.
I've backed this particular type of U-Haul trailer and the smaller one they have.
Even the car dolly.
I'm pretty used to backing up trailers (cars, on a tow truck) and this looked like a bit of a pickle even for me. I'm not sure how she got there, but it's always best to ask for help when you need it. Nothing wrong with needing some guidance.
This was actually not boring, but I'm sure quite instructional for people that are towing for the first time and get crossed up especially when backing up. Great patience and allowing her to do it, giving a sense of accomplishment was brilliant. Chance meeting with Nate at Breakfast was the icing on the cake!
❤
Imma guy, i would have dented and the car and the trailer... respect for asking help, the only right thing to do... I wish my younger self learned that lesson earlier, and then get Casey to help you is a gift send from heaven. thanks for sharing.
I really like that you taught her how to do it by making her do it. That builds experience and confidence.
That was nice of you, for no charging her
No judging just teaching....well done!
Oh, he is judging... We all are
Excellent! You were very helpful and kind to her. Thank you for putting this video up :)
She was towing a 12 ft. trailer with just the car mirrors. They didn't give her the side mirrors that offer full viewing, that would have made anyone new to trailer towing have lots of problems safely towing it.
I’ve done a lot of UHaul 6x12 towing with a SUV, including one-way/cross-country. They’ve never offered anything but the trailer.
She did the right thing. She wasn't comfortable with the situation so she asked for help. You did a rockstar job as usual Casey and gave her confidence that she didn't have before. Peace Out.
Honestly, it's stuff like this that makes me want to be a tow truck operator. Person needed help, you provide help, no charge, no fuss. Thanks for the video.
As a tow truck operator, these are the highlights of the job. 1) the rare call where you never have to touch the vehicle. 2) the rare moment when you get to make someone's day by not charging them. 3) helping a customer to fix a simple issue without making them feel stupid for getting into a situation in the first place. Having all three of these factors in one call is kind of a unicorn, but it does occasionally happen.
Towing can be a lot of fun, but it really depends on the nature of the service your company provides. If all you're doing is repairing flat tires for entitled customers who are unpleasable, the job can really suck. Picking up wrecks and cleaning up the messes from them all the time also gets boring and can be annoying. Working for a company doesn't generally pay very well. The overhead is ridiculous on keeping a fleet of trucks on the road. Expensive to operate, and even more expensive NOT to operate. After costs, depending on the nature of the calls (especially if they're through contract providers like AAA, Agero, Allstate, etc.) the company turns very little profit per call, so to make any profit you need to be constantly slammed with calls and hustling through them. The best money is always in direct calls, but then you don't get many without some advertising expense. It's tricky to make a good living in towing without burning out quickly.
At first I was confused how someone could not get out of it but realised she's a young driver probably the first time she's ever towed before. I think the initial reaction is to laugh and many others would, but I have the benefit of experience and knowledge that others don't have; good on her to ask for help, to admit failure because that is the only way to learn and congrats Casey on being there to give a tiny percentage of your knowledge and experience to help, if we all did that the world would be a much smarter, kinder place.
Thank You for the Nate Sighting, I hope he is doing well
That really sucks but I can relate. I never was good with a trailer until I learned so I feel for her. You're a good dude Casey. It's too bad you had to come all the way out. I mean, I would have thought someone would have spotted for her like you did. Solid karma points for you brother!
Never boring when you help someone in need thanks for sharing
That, actually, was a jolly good video and with breakfast thrown in. Top notch job there, Casey, and a very happy lady sent on her way
OMG! If I would be that woman and Casey would tell me this is 'for free' I would run up and give that man a HUGE hug! What is wrong with people to not show a big appreciation anymore? I remember that truck driver that was stuck on his FIRST job and cried after Casey told him it would cost him nothing, THAT is being a true humane human...
Hugs from Belgium Casey.
You were very kind to this lady, it's nice to see.
As someone who has very limited experience with towing a trailer actually this video is excellent 👌 👏 👍
I'm proud of my wife! Showed her this video, paused before he gave instructions and she knew how to correct the angles! You'd have to know just how uncoordinated my wife is to understand how amazed I was. She gets stuck WALKING sometimes! No BS! She really does.
Nate locked out of his own shop 🤣🤣 too funny.
Thanks for the video
You got a glimpse into the future raising Riley. Keep showing your sympathetic side and she’ll blossom with confidence. Have you thought one moment about how that girl appreciated your kindness? You’re a daughters’ kind of father.
It was not at all boring, it was acually really fun video. Show the diversity of your work.
Gotta love having an easy one occasionally. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Nate! Casey, [you are younger than me, but] I wish my dad had taught me to back up a trailer as well as you taught that young lady.
Good job explaining to her what to do
The way I learned to back a trailer was when I was a kid. Backing a garden dump trailer behind our lawnmower, big trailer and truck/car was a piece of cake when the time came. Been towing a fifth wheel RV for only 6 yrs now and still have minor issues, a little different, but doable…not hit anything yet 😁
That's because, the longer the trailer, the slower it moves, the more time to adjust.
During college I worked at a supermarket, during my break I would go to the delivery docks and watch the trucks and trailers, I was watching one day when a regular driver came in but instead of the normal 40ft trailer he was towing a shorty, 20ish ft long, he would normally swing round and put the 40ft trailer straight on the dock, he went all over the yard with the short trailer, it took a good couple of minutes to get it on the dock!
Short trailers are arseholes to reverse, I’ll take a trailer with a longer drawbar every time!
Good Job !! Have you ever noticed that when a lot of drivers(men or women) put their car, truck, van in reverse they turn the wheel as they back up even when all they have to do is back straight up.
I've trained many students in an industrial setting . One of the most important things is to make them feel relaxed and comfortable . Questions , instruction and learning come much easier then . Casey ; Your interaction with that young lady was well handled . Nicely done .
You, Sir, are the best!
Great direction, and did not embaress her. Once again....Casey does excellent!
She went from Oh crap with probably a touch of panic to Oh, that wasn't so hard... And perfectly courteous to ask what she owed you. Those are the ones you don't mind helping for free. Plus there's a father out there somewhere that is very thankful someone helped his daughter like a father would.
Super tough recovery. You sir are a patient man.
Thanks. Our good life keeps getting better because you share happiness with even things you consider simple but tough for most of us.
Good morning Casey I respect how you used this as a teachable moment and helped her get her own car out of the situation.
You are a good teacher by having her do definitely helped more then doing it for her.
Why doesn't Nate have his own RUclips channel? He definitely needs one in my opinion. I would definitely subscribe. His videos would be a lot of fun to watch. I always enjoy his commentary
I laughed and realized I know at least 3 people who would have needed that coaching to get out of that situation. So thanks for teaching someone a new skill!!
It might not have been the most exciting video but I am smiling and that is worth way more to me than entertainment. Thank you. :-)
As someone that briefly worked at a Uhaul maintenance facility and seen the various damaged equipment, I truly appreciate this video.
👍😎
100% that they were backing up, and thought that the trailer would miraculously turn with them..
Nope.. trailers have a mind of their own unless you tell them what to do.
Good job ,well done
Just one of those things you can't learn until you're in it. "Do stuff, and things 'll happen" is a motto round this household.
This is a perfect example of good business ethics 😊
Great video, short sweet and love to see your kindness. You treated her with great respect.
Nate is hilarious to watch
Smart having her do it. Doing is better than watching.
You almost did as much work as Bruce Cook. Almost.
😮😮🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And could have just stayed in his "jeep" and did this one. 🙊🙊🙊
💕
😂😂 just commented that I wouldn’t have gotten out then saw this comment. 👌🏻🍻
Thank you for being so respectful to her! Man or Woman, not everyone can see the overall picture when stuck in situations like that.
Driving is a lost art. But at least she called for help before destroying something.
You boosted both her confidence and capabilities by instructing her how to resolve the situation herself. Nice work as always.🥰😎
Extraction under instruction! You learn by teaching and helping. Helping her to do it herself has taught her something. Good job!
Simple for you, magic to her.
Well done Casey. Reminded me of camping years ago. A lady pulled up in a big class A and said can you back it in for me. I jumped in and parked it with her toddler and baby inside. Better safe than sorry. Not embarrassed to ask for help.
So Wise , Thank You I agree . Having the lady drive herself out was a good experience for her , and a reminder when we do the same thing.
Your a nice guy, Casey! 👍👍
Man, one of the hardest lessons is to learn to stop while you're ahead and to not keep digging the hole you're in any deeper. Thanks for posting this to remind folks of this lesson and to demonstrate a good attitude and what it's like to be a good person and a good neighbor. Thanks, Casey. 👍
Simple for some, impossible for others. Well done Casey 👍
Not a boring video at all! Great training video on how to back and straighten a trailer.
After 48 years of pulling everything from cut trees tangled in vines, to cars and trucks, even pulled my brother and his oversized zero turn mower out of the ditch just yesterday. I still cannot back up with a trailer. I cant seem to see it in my head. So thanks for helping her out!😊
here's a hint to make it easier. Hold the wheel at the bottom, the way you want the trailer to go is then the direction you move the wheel in. Try it, it makes things much easier.
@@marvindebot3264
I prefer to put my right hand on the left of the wheel, that always works for me, but same principle.
She did a great job following instructions. 😊
Backing up a trailer might be one of the most UNintuitive things on earth to the uninitiated. No matter what you do, the trailer always seems to do exactly the opposite of what you expect. The answer should be obvious : do the opposite of what you have been. Unfortunately getting our brains to accept that nonsensical answer isn't easy.
It's somehow like learning to ride a motorbike or even pedal bicycle. It's counter intuitive to steer into the opposite of where you want to turn first, so the two wheeler lean on a side first, and then steering into where you want to go.
@@5Dale65 Exactly so. And insanely glad to see someone else acknowleging the counter-steer thing on a bike. Pretty much anyone I mention it to swears I'm out of my mind.
Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺. Agree with all the comments, great job Casey.
As someone who is currently still pretty inept with trailer’s, I can see why she called for help.
Good for her for calling for help. Without experience that can happen. I more and more appreciate the skills I learned on the farm when I was young!!
Another great video thanks for taking the time to film and help her out of a situation that could have gone a lot worse damage wise
Cascade Light Rescue™ 😂
Passenger / Driver side for turns, that’s great. People quickly forget Left and Right when in stressful trailer situation, commonly asked question, your right on my right. Props to you.
Your an alright guy.Thats why i enjoy watching you.,💯👍🇺🇲
Kudos to Casey. I was a little worried that the woman might be too nervous to drive, but Casey did a really good job of calmly and clearly giving instructions. And the woman did a great job of following the instructions with appropriately gentle use of the gas.
Its also very hard to menuver 4-5 inches, get out of the vehichle and check, then do it over and over again until you get it.
Hopefully she will remember a little bit of what was taught just in case it were to happen again 😊 In a video game it would be a breeze but actually doing it is way different lol
Helped her help herself, then got breakfast! As it should be.
Good on you for being a good humble human being.
It's a heck of a lot cheaper to call for help before damage then it is after damage happens.
Best part of all of it is not how easy a job it was but that she called Casey. Some other might have charged her for the advice. Gave us a nice video and got Casey out to get something to eat.
With Casey giving directions, even i could back up a trailer 😂
And this is why in the UK you need to pass a small license test to drive with a trailer!! (involves reversing around some cones, and a supervised drive) it then gets added to your license so police can make sure you can drive.
That was nice of you for helping her for free. It's amazing how people get into that position with nothing else around them. That's for doing something kind today for a stranger again.
Man that’s gotta be the hardest Casey’s had to work in months 🤣
I've had curbs and light standards jump out in front of me also, I'm glad that nothing was damaged in this recovery.
I once got myself stuck up a dead end road, driving a Uhaul with a car trailer on the back...took me two hours to get out of that pickle...could have used a spotter like Casey!
Good on you. Made her day! Anytime Nate makes an appearance makes my day, now out to the garage and to blow up a can of carp cleaner!
Helped and educated all of the same time & it was free 🤣👍
That was very nice of you to help that lady out Casey your a class act god bless you and your family
Nice teaching job Casey. Great experience for her and all of us that watched that have never pulled a trailer.
That was really cool for not charging her. So many people would want something just for his/her time of showing up.
I probably would have done it the hard way. Unhook the trailer, and turn it straight, hook back up and go. But I'm not as clever as Casey, and the young lady has gained some valuable experience. Well done again Casey 👍👏👏👏
THANK YOU Casey!
You are always entertaining and I watch and learn tons from you. Just everyday things that make sense. Your techniques saved my Terrain a lot of damage. My wife stopped to let a large straight truck into a business. He continued in and proceeded to crunch the rear drivers back tail light and fender with his frame and tire. Luckily he stopped but the angle that he came in on made it so him moving forward or backward would cause more damage as would my wife moving the SUV forward would also have done. I used your technique for grabbing the rear wheel with a soft shackle and a tow rope and pulled it straight to the side with my pickup. Needless to say it worked like a champ and saved a lot of damage, plus left a very impressed policeman and truck driver.
Don Scott
Learnt to drive with a trailer on a farm , 30 foot steel framed trailer through a clevis to a tractor with a bare steel steering wheel. Oh, the fences were electrified, 59 years later I still use trailers & still remember the fence 😊😂😂😂😂😂
Girl was going out to conquer the world. It’s scary doing it on your own. Glad you where there to give her guidance.
I think what might of spooked the lady was that the wheel had dropped off the curb onto the dirt, which probably looked to someone with little experience that it would damage the tire/trailer trying to pull sideways going forward, so she did the sensible thing and called for help
