    I appreciate the kind words on the stream yesterday about the bike. Don't let age stop you, us old guys can still get down even when it does piss the wife off when you pass her doing a wheelie and she mentions daily about how much she hates the color of my wheels and cage. 😂 At least my kids think its cool. 😁

    The dual exhaust pipes on single cylinder engines, is usually because the piston is oval shaped. It helps to scavenge gasses out of the odd shaped combustion chamber. Honda made these popular.

    • @mandrakejake
      @mandrakejake 2 месяца назад +2

      The ovality of a piston is tiny. Big singles like this have a big piston and 2 big exhaust valves, so instead of your typical siamese port they run seperate ports and 2 header pipes, usually combined later down the pipe.

    • @andrewbecker3700
      @andrewbecker3700 2 месяца назад

      @@mandrakejake yep, sure. Understand all that. What I'm trying to explain, is that Honda made oval piston singles. Maybe this engine doesn't have an oval piston. What your talking about, I'm not sure? Tiny ovalty? What does that even mean?

    • @anderman82
      @anderman82 2 месяца назад

      Radial four valve combustion

    • @mandrakejake
      @mandrakejake 2 месяца назад +1

      @@andrewbecker3700 what I mean is it having twin headers on a single cylinder has nothing to do with oval shaped pistons like the NR750. Lots of big singles did this.
      Pistons are usually oval, and slightly tapered so they become cylindrical when at operating temperature. You can't see it, it's a very small amount.

  • @HashAssett

    The dual exhaust was NOT because of an oval-piston design, that was rare and expensive for Honda to make. The reason was because of the packaging of the engine/frame combo to get the weight distribution where they wanted, the engine had to be close enough to the frame that they had to split the exhaust around the frame. The DR/XR series had the oil stored in the frame so an argument could be made that it was also designed to share the heat from the headers for a faster warmup period. It was also not due to having 4 valves, the newer CRF series had 4 valves and a single exhaust but the frame was made in a "U" shape the allow for a single header.

    The V-strom 800 (DE?) yeah... in some colours they look good, and other colours they don't, guess why I bring this up. I have a V-strom 250SX, and there are aspects that could definitely be improved apon. Like the addition of a 450 P twin in the 250's frame, not a 650, 800 or 1050 frame... the 250 frame, with a tiny rework of the useless windscreen, vibrating overlapping plastics and adding switchable ABS, and Hazard lights... but NOTHING else. keep it simple and low cost... this is what Suzuki is known for, and why I have had more than 1 Suzuki.
    and back to the colour, I chose the Orange, but they were sold out by the time I got to the dealer to buy one, so I got a black one... The Yellow is an awesome colour and makes some of the Suzuki's look friggin great. but not the V-stroms!

    Im currently in the market for a bike as a new rider, (27yrs old and confident in my ability to not turn the go fast stick too much) as well as one im preferably not going to grow out of in 2 years, I need to eventually be able to move comfortably at highway speeds preferably as soon as I feel my ability as a rider dictates but am in no rush to get on the highway since I still have my car. I am kinda of scared of going with the Aprillia due to all the reliability issues I've heard about, I don't like the look of the Yamaha R7 at all and I've heard the CBR650R has a very aggressive seating position. So my current considerations are between a Ninja 500, Ninja 650, Aprillia RS457,Aprillia RS660, or maybe a CFMOTO 450SS, any advice anyone out there wants to share would be highly appreciated, thanks!!
