I appreciate the kind words on the stream yesterday about the bike. The dual exhaust pipes on single cylinder engines, is usually because the piston is oval shaped. It helps to scavenge gasses out of the odd shaped combustion chamber. Honda made these popular.
The ovality of a piston is tiny. Big singles like this have a big piston and 2 big exhaust valves, so instead of your typical siamese port they run seperate ports and 2 header pipes, usually combined later down the pipe.
@@mandrakejake yep, sure. Understand all that. What I'm trying to explain, is that Honda made oval piston singles. Maybe this engine doesn't have an oval piston. What your talking about, I'm not sure? Tiny ovalty? What does that even mean?
@@andrewbecker3700 what I mean is it having twin headers on a single cylinder has nothing to do with oval shaped pistons like the NR750. Lots of big singles did this. Pistons are usually oval, and slightly tapered so they become cylindrical when at operating temperature. You can't see it, it's a very small amount.
Got my '23 with 1900 miles a few weeks ago. First bike. Really wanted a CB650R but there were ZERO in DFW. Went with the Trident since there were many more to choose from. Mine came with the quickshifter but I have to tell myself to not use it so I can keep practicing with the clutch. Feels so good to ride for the first time since I was around 12 years old on a KX85
The dual exhaust was NOT because of an oval-piston design, that was rare and expensive for Honda to make. The reason was because of the packaging of the engine/frame combo to get the weight distribution where they wanted, the engine had to be close enough to the frame that they had to split the exhaust around the frame. The DR/XR series had the oil stored in the frame so an argument could be made that it was also designed to share the heat from the headers for a faster warmup period. It was also not due to having 4 valves, the newer CRF series had 4 valves and a single exhaust but the frame was made in a "U" shape the allow for a single header.
I remember your original R3 days! I even remember when you had that wreck (glad you bounced back). Boy have you blown up since then!!! Keep up the good work 💪🏽

I am pretty sure the dual exhaust header for the dr600 was because it had a four valve head and that each exhaust valve ran to its own exhaust port.

The dual exhaust headers on a single cylinder allow the exhaust to clear the main dowmtube on the frame without an offset exhaust port
small diameter exhaust tubing off the head can make a tighter bend. Two of them have same flow as one large tube.
