Before anyone complaining about the Koenigsegg driver not being good enough: Perhaps he is not, but he actually uses his car as is only good and proper. In addition: he dares to go against a profesional drag racer on a multi million subscriber youtube channel despite knowing Mat is a better drag racer, Tesla's are great 1/4 mile cars and Koenigseggs are not. The man deserves our praise, not scorn. Also he has a Koenigsegg.
I am from sweden and live not far from Koenigsegg in Ängelholm, so the sight and sound of them are daily occurrences. Sadly 9 of 10 only buys them as investments or for shows only and not as a regular sportscar. Cars are made to be used, so it's very nice to hear that you use it as intended. 👍

Yanni wouldn't have effed up the gear changes 100% of the time. Even the last race, he started celebrating before he'd even passed the Tesla, and in doing so, effed up yet another gear change... a change that, given how close they were, could have got him the win. Driver error galore, but it could have been 2 wins Matt, one to Wam.
I don't blame you at all. I used to work at a car shop and occasionally. Customers would tell me to take their cars for a ride, and I would always tell them no, because if I break it, I can't afford to fix it!
Even though it's a fantastic car, the Koenigsegg seems to behave like a heavily tuned car: it's quite fussy and when serious performance is asked it's issue-prone. We've seen it happen on Carwow so many times. It really shows how well-engineered Bugatti's and Porsches are.
Germans are more experienced, it's also their strategize "evolution" which refines car over time. Veyron > Chiron, Porsche 911 from the 60s to present date...

Their reliability and durability issues stem from rapidly introducing new tech and drivetrains as compared to Japanese or American counterparts. Look at the latest M5s or almost any MB. So what? Koenigseggs are made almost entirely from custom parts, and they still manage to beat records. As for bugatti it still requires very frequent and expensive maintanance
People tend to forget that this is a very powerful lightweight rwd car that is designed for drag racing in the last place. Germans are super focused on 1/4 mile, and now all of their cars are 4wd. Where is the fun of circuits when your cat weighs around 2 tons and more in some cases.

I had probably 70k+ miles on the original spark plugs... and one suddenly started misbehaving when I was almost home. Let me tell you..... People say ForTwo's aren't fast (They're not "fast"... but they can be "quick").... they're even less so when only running on 2 out of 3 cylinders.
Tom is a brilliant humble guy, lovely on camera and just a normal person. Takes a lot to go on a massive channel like this knowing hes going to have the entire Internet throwing their opinions about. End of the day though, hes the one going home in his million dollar car...

In the real world you won every time with a electric car because you always get full torque and power. I play that game now for five years. Before I own a lot fast petrol's but now I have the really fast electrical power.
There is no "real world" mate. The dragstrip is just like a racetrack. You go there to have fun and race. It the perfect place meant for racing. Thats where cars show their true potential

Interesting that it wasn't raced against the faster Model S plaid. A 7 seater SUV vs a hypercar is nuts. The crazy part is how the model X beat it every time and nearly had it in the break test too

Koenigsegg is build to go 200-250 M/h. It has its most horse power where most other cars cannot go faster. You can watch a review of the car. It feels like it doesnt slow down even when you go at that absurd speeds. Its just built differently. Whereas all the electric cars have their boost immediatelly but its not able to go those speeds because of few reasons and a few of which is weight, overheating of batteries and a few more... So electric cars are supposed to win a 1/4 drag race by default. You are just playing on their strong side.
The PLAID produces 1000+ BHP the moment you floor the throttle, and continues to produce 1000+ BHP power throughout the race, whereas the Egg produces 1300+ BHP only at peak RPM. Key difference.
Thats actually not the issue here. For one, electric cars have really high torque, but not infinite one. They still need RPM to get to power. If what you said was the case, for one the traction would be immediately lost, and if not, you would just twist your axels, blow tires and mangle drivetrain. In fact the electric torque advantage is mostly visible when you pit low end electric and ice cars against each other. For the high power sports cars, which easily have power/torque to overcome tire grip, the amount of wheel horsepower at standing start is pretty much irrelevant - its too high anyway. Real reason why electric cars so easily beat hypercars from standing start, is because they can modulate power. If you removed their computer launch/traction control, they would most likely do worse then ICE cars. But what happens is, electronics sort of do a "reverse ABS" thing when launching - they cut off power and restore it to keep tire traction. Both electric and ICE cars do that, but electric cars can modulate the power on wheels up to hundreds times per second (in perfect circumstances, usually its "only" in the tens range). ICE cars have a lot more "lag" , and can only do it a few times per second, which leads to much worse traction management (and they cant as easily vector torque to specific wheels with more traction). In fact in the video, the Egg was already in 1000+ BHP range while still ahead (takes around 1 second to reach that much rpm in 1st gear), and kept there for 90% of the 1/4 mile.

I can’t believe Tesla only “competition” are SUPER AND HYPER cars. Sports cars are not even in the picture Keep in mind just watched a $70k 0:15 mid sized SUV beating a $4,400,000 (US dollars) hyper car in a race. So it’s like you’re the GQ playboy. You’re a rich stud with a prime lady on your side driving around town in your $4mill+ car to show. You rev at stop lights, everyone is looking at your car while you look straight and ignore them because you’re so cool. Then all of the sudden a Tesla Model X plaid suv pulls up next to you at the light. A soccer mom is driving looking straight because she could care less about your care because she has a list of running around town think about. She has 2 kids in the back, groceries in the trunk. The 7 year old boy rolls down his window in awe and say loudly so you can here “ wow look at that car is sooo cool and fast” Now you don’t want to disappoint and you rev your engine again. The mom slowly looks over at you through her tinted window because she thinks you’re annoying. The light turns green and you punch it , ROAR of your engine is deafening and you blast off , only to your surprise so did she. 2 secs later and she’s a half car ahead , 6 secs later the kid is sticking his head out the window trying to see where his cool car went. 11sec later the mom is stopped down the road at the next red light. Then a few seconds later you show up side by side and the kid rolls his window up as he says your car is faster mommy. There is an awkward silence between you and your beauty queen as she realizes as you just did that you spent $4 million for pretty noise and that’s about it. The soccer mom spent 70,000 so she can take her kids to school go shopping and run errands all while spending very little to recharge and being content with her every day driver 😎

Love it when you have to do 10min prep pre-race, make sure the oil temp is just right, check the weather for good conditions and verify if Mercury is in retrograde. These "hypercars" are AWESOME. Meanwhile with EVs you push the pedal.
You do know they were waiting for the EV battery to warm up before they could race yeah? Agreed the supposed hypercar was a bag of spanners, be better off with a Porsche 911 turbo S that can do it all day and has done 10.1 which is mind-blowing given its power compared to these 2 cars here 🤯
I know people hate on electric cars and that's the cool thing to do in the car community but fuck man. It's absolutely insane to me that a 6 seater family SUV is able to beat much less keep up with any part of a race against a multi million dollar hyper car. It's even crazier to me that the a 5 thousand pound sedan is yet faster while not even being 100k new. Crazy world we live in man.
Love my Plaid X. It goes slightly faster with the 20 inch rims in 1/4 mile but the 22 inch rims provide a higher top speed and apparently better braking by how this looks 🤔
@@maerklin29800 most likely comes down to limitations of the tires. However I do know the tires for 22 inch rims are also a little wider. Probably are rated for higher top speed.

I'd be pissed off if I spent 4M on a car that runs like shite. In this day and age not being able to launch it, change gears cleanly and having it constantly break down when it costs that much money is unforgivable. What a WOFTAM.
The problem with Koenigsegg (particularly the Agera) is that it’s a single clutch and can’t put the power to the ground effectively, so it loses. It’s a good top speed car sure, but that’s about it. The Regera is a much more impressive car, and the Jesko as well. I’m fairly certain that a Jesko could beat the X Plaid in a drag race though.
This is truly such a beautiful representation of technological innovation. Fun fact, electric cars came before combustion ones. Imagine if somehow, someway, they were cheaper than gas to produce and spread. We would have the most insane tech rn.

I am gonna answer it once it for all... 1: this Koenigsegg is literally 10 years old now compare to the Tesla. 2: RWD vs AWD plus electric car has instant torque and with the help of AWD.... Of course it is gonna be quick but not fast because after 1/4 mile run? Electric car is cook . 3: I have seen many agera RS act like this especially at launch because of high HP and torque but red which mean slower launch especially for a car that is like 10 years old when technology (grip technology) is not that advanced at that time... 3: sure it is expensive, 3.5 m or something .... But keep in mind this car is very engineered.... High downforce, timeless design, carbon fiber, high HP engine that also need loads of support.... Inside is carbon and so does outside...plus this car is mean to go 450kmh+ not 0-100 nor for 1/4mile..... 4: the car kinda has problem so of course the performance is lower today..... Don't blame the driver.... The driver is there just to have fun and enjoy so plus this two.... You get a lower great result.... 5: PLSSS just because a electric car beat a combustion engine car.... Doesn't mean electric car is faster nor quicker.... And no agera RS is not the fastest.... For now the fastest is Bugatti Chiron 300+ but the fastest to 0-400-0 is Koenigsegg regera RS..... But again... Drag race and 0-100 is useless.... Hit the track and you will notice the Tesla Plaid is kinda slow compared to cheaper track cars.....
I mean if you want to get hung up on noises then why not bring horse travel back? Electric is objectively a better method of propulsion because it's without the inefficiency of so many moving parts, a gearbox etc. It just goes. When the next gen batteries come in, the few remaining complaints about range will disappear too.
i don't know how anyone can hate tesla. Watching a SUV under $100k keep up or beat supercars is just incredible, and the fact that it does it with $1 worth of electricity is even more amazing. If that plaid had Lamborghini on the back and cost $250k everyone would be worshipping it.

That Koenigsegg with almost half the weight and an extra 300hp should have won every race. It is just amazing how the instant torque AND traction control makes such a difference for the Tesla (awd I know). The Koenigsegg might need a factory driver...
I don't know if the result was because of the power application abilities of the Tesla. I'm really curious what the difference would be if the driver wasn't constantly short shifting, even in the higher gears. Dude was leaving cubic acres of power on the table by not revving it all the way out.

I adore the Agera RS but you have to face the reality that an all electric 4wd car with over 1000hp is super hard to beat. A hybrid version of Agera RS would be almost unbeatable though in my opinion.
In the final dragrace Matt is waiting for the koenigsegg to start rolling first and then goes. Otherwise Tesla would have beat him way more clearly. Epic race though!

1020 hp tesla and 1360hp Koenigsegg both did the quarter miles in 10.2 secs which is same time done by Porsche 911 turbo S with 640hp.

Koenigsegg is build to go 200-250 M/h. It has its most horse power where most other cars cannot go faster. You can watch a review of the car. It feels like it doesnt slow down even when you go at that absurd speeds. Its just built differently. Whereas all the electric cars have their boost immediatelly but its not able to go those speeds because of few reasons and a few of which is weight, overheating of batteries and a few more... So electric cars are supposed to win a 1/4 drag race by default. You are just playing on their strong side.
People need to give the Plaid their flowers. Porsche fans are able to do it with the 911, why can’t a 6 seater practical everyday SUV

The PLAID produces 1000+ BHP the moment you floor the throttle, and continues to produce 1000+ BHP power throughout the race, whereas the Egg produces 1300+ BHP only at peak RPM. Key difference.
By that logic the Porsche 911 Turbo S should be a really slow car as well, cause it doesnt even have 650 HP.

Thats actually not the issue here. For one, electric cars have really high torque, but not infinite one. They still need RPM to get to power. If what you said was the case, for one the traction would be immediately lost, and if not, you would just twist your axels, blow tires and mangle drivetrain. In fact the electric torque advantage is mostly visible when you pit low end electric and ice cars against each other. For the high power sports cars, which easily have power/torque to overcome tire grip, the amount of wheel horsepower at standing start is pretty much irrelevant - its too high anyway.
Real reason why electric cars so easily beat hypercars from standing start, is because they can modulate power. If you removed their computer launch/traction control, they would most likely do worse then ICE cars. But what happens is, electronics sort of do a "reverse ABS" thing when launching - they cut off power and restore it to keep tire traction. Both electric and ICE cars do that, but electric cars can modulate the power on wheels up to hundreds times per second (in perfect circumstances, usually its "only" in the tens range). ICE cars have a lot more "lag" , and can only do it a few times per second, which leads to much worse traction management (and they cant as easily vector torque to specific wheels with more traction).
In fact in the video, the Egg was already in 1000+ BHP range while still ahead (takes around 1 second to reach that much rpm in 1st gear), and kept there for 90% of the 1/4 mile.
And at the launch, it would only be putting down some 400hp off the line and onto the ground

So it’s like you’re the GQ playboy. You’re a rich stud with a prime lady on your side driving around town in your $4mill+ car to show. You rev at stop lights, everyone is looking at your car while you look straight and ignore them because you’re so cool. Then all of the sudden a Tesla Model X plaid suv pulls up next to you at the light. A soccer mom is driving looking straight because she could care less about your care because she has a list of running around town think about. She has 2 kids in the back, groceries in the trunk. The 7 year old boy rolls down his window in awe and say loudly so you can here “ wow look at that car is sooo cool and fast” Now you don’t want to disappoint and you rev your engine again. The mom slowly looks over at you through her tinted window because she thinks you’re annoying.
The light turns green and you punch it , ROAR of your engine is deafening and you blast off , only to your surprise so did she. 2 secs later and she’s a half car ahead , 6 secs later the kid is sticking his head out the window trying to see where his cool car went. 11sec later the mom is stopped down the road at the next red light. Then a few seconds later you show up side by side and the kid rolls his window up as he says your car is faster mommy. There is an awkward silence between you and your beauty queen as she realizes as you just did that you spent $4 million for pretty noise and that’s about it. The soccer mom spent 70,000 so she can take her kids to school go shopping and run errands all while spending very little to recharge and being content with her every day driver 😎

I'd be pissed off if I spent 4M on a car that runs like shite. In this day and age not being able to launch it, change gears cleanly and having it constantly break down when it costs that much money is unforgivable. What a WOFTAM.
The problem with Koenigsegg (particularly the Agera) is that it’s a single clutch and can’t put the power to the ground effectively, so it loses. It’s a good top speed car sure, but that’s about it. The Regera is a much more impressive car, and the Jesko as well. I’m fairly certain that a Jesko could beat the X Plaid in a drag race though.
I would also bet there is a lot of user error.
The word ur looking for is single clutch gearbox.

1: this Koenigsegg is literally 10 years old now compare to the Tesla.
2: RWD vs AWD plus electric car has instant torque and with the help of AWD.... Of course it is gonna be quick but not fast because after 1/4 mile run? Electric car is cook .
3: I have seen many agera RS act like this especially at launch because of high HP and torque but red which mean slower launch especially for a car that is like 10 years old when technology (grip technology) is not that advanced at that time...
3: sure it is expensive, 3.5 m or something .... But keep in mind this car is very engineered.... High downforce, timeless design, carbon fiber, high HP engine that also need loads of support.... Inside is carbon and so does outside...plus this car is mean to go 450kmh+ not 0-100 nor for 1/4mile.....
4: the car kinda has problem so of course the performance is lower today..... Don't blame the driver.... The driver is there just to have fun and enjoy so plus this two.... You get a lower great result....
5: PLSSS just because a electric car beat a combustion engine car.... Doesn't mean electric car is faster nor quicker.... And no agera RS is not the fastest.... For now the fastest is Bugatti Chiron 300+ but the fastest to 0-400-0 is Koenigsegg regera RS..... But again... Drag race and 0-100 is useless.... I mean if you want to get hung up on noises then why not bring horse travel back? Electric is objectively a better method of propulsion because it's without the inefficiency of so many moving parts, a gearbox etc. It just goes. When the next gen batteries come in, the few remaining complaints about range will disappear too.
It's the emotion of it, it's not just the noise, it's everything that brings it together. Electric simply doesn't have that.

That Koenigsegg with almost half the weight and an extra 300hp should have won every race. It is just amazing how the instant torque AND traction control makes such a difference for the Tesla (awd I know). The Koenigsegg might need a factory driver...
I don't know if the result was because of the power application abilities of the Tesla. I'm really curious what the difference would be if the driver wasn't constantly short shifting, even in the higher gears. Dude was leaving cubic acres of power on the table by not revving it all the way out.

I adore the Agera RS but you have to face the reality that an all electric 4wd car with over 1000hp is super hard to beat. A hybrid version of Agera RS would be almost unbeatable though in my opinion.

In the final dragrace Matt is waiting for the koenigsegg to start rolling first and then goes. Otherwise Tesla would have beat him way more clearly. Epic race though!
