Great review, spot on. I've got the V2 and it's a great tent, although with my foam mat and inflatable sleep mat my feet do touch the bottom (I"m only 5'7"). Well worth the money - I'd say it punches above it's weight and price.
Thanks. Yeah, it's one of the best value tents around. You won't find much tougher and more suited to bad weather than the Phoxx tents.

Thanks for the great review, I have just finished a quick cycle tour of the Outer Hebridies in the original tent and came to the same conclusion about the size.
I'm only 5 foot 7 and was cramped.
The twin zip setup still managed to keep the midges out thankfully! Good advice but I'll wear this one out first and try the V2.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad the double zips kept the midges out. It's still a decent tent, but the improvements to V2 really do make a difference.

Great bombproof tent in all but the worst conditions nice and low profile and almost as stealth as a bivvy. Not to mention a real bargain, I've done C2C - NC500 and a month around the highlands in all conditions it's been the best thing I've ever bought.
Which version do you have? They do seem really rugged little tents, the low profile helps and I agree it's good value.
@@TheWalkingKev Phox 1 V2 I've got the total weight down ro 1.4kg with carbon poles and lightweight msr pegs. It;s my main tent for bikepacking over my other tents costing triple what I also own.
@@Bikecampcook that's some nice mods for it. I've sold mine now, I just have too many tents so am trying to get down to just a few I'll use.

I was surprised thought I knew differences between the two tents but are multiple with the extra volume being highly significant. On more general perspective I want to pickup on your point about square versus a single pointed footbox end. When you look at a tent it is easy to consider this as being of only cosmetic significance or that the sharp point design might even be of advantage in severe winds. Infact that shape dramatically reduces usable length of tent and storage area at feet for clothing etc. And the single sharp point choice is not limited to budget 1p and 2p tents. Eg. Lightwave used it on there trek zr0 tents and those were premium silnylon. Respects. JMO.
I had no idea there would be so many differences, the extra space is a total game changer and the revised footend plays a big part in that. I could understand if the shape was replicated by the flysheet, as that might have better wind resistance, but just on the inner it doesn't make much sense.
I've hopefully get chance to take it for a camp soon.
Good video mate I prefer the V2 because it has a better inner tent not as much mesh better for warmth in snow

One major difference you didn't mention was the price. I just purchased an original phoxx 1 for £25 and it's mint condition. This means when we go camping together and pop down the pub in the evening you'll be broke after a couple of pints but I'll have more than enough to have a dam good night out down the ploughman's arms and even get to take the landlords daughter round the back of the haystack after getting her a few banyshams
I got a mint condition Phoxx 1 for £10, the Phoxx 1 v2, new, cost me £35. So I would have £25 extra for a few drinks had I just stuck with the Phoxx 1 I guess.

Good stuff i have the 1v2 and the 2v2 love em great little tents, im a big lad tho so find the 2v2 better. Also love my bobcat that can take a battering! Also have the rakoon 2.1 thats such a comfortable place to chill. OEX make some cracking gear, never had anything fail or leak!
Only bad bit of kit was the tacana stove but that was rubbish 😅. ATB
Nice, I imagine the 2 has decent space. I've got the North Ridge Col Lite tent which is pretty much identical to the Bobcat, decent little tent. I generally like OEX gear.
@@TheWalkingKev yeah the 2 just works better I think mate plenty more space and not much weight difference.
Same I genuinely like OEX you always feel happy that your getting a good deal, where as alot of brands now you feel robbed.
the original version might give you a better blackout nights sleep because my Oex bobcat looks to made of the same materials and colour as the later version and is very light inside early morning. Good reviews.

No idea! I imagine you'd have to measure the existing poles and then find some or get some custom made. Would probably cost more than the entire tent!
Excellent comparison helped me to make a choice. Second version in my case. I also have 2 person version and it is excellent, but I needed something even smaller and lighter. Thank you

I own the second and the original is smaller?! There’s a smaller version out there?!
There's actually two smaller versions. The Phoxx 1 V1 in this video and the Phoxx EV 1. I've actually bought a Phoxx EV 1, so I'll get that on the channel soon. Same size as this black one but lighter weight and more mesh - and it's a nice bright green.
Do you think the v2 would be suitable for winter camping?
It'd be OK in terms of warmth but snow would need to be shaken off regularly as I don't think it would naturally fall off it.
I've recently purchased the V2 however there's some differences on mine that make it seem like a V3 I'm curious to see if anyone's got the same.
When I first unfolded my tent the outer rain layer was already pre-tied to the base mesh and the poles just slid straight through as it seems it now comes with two hoops to tie too on the fabric sleeve for the poles. So I can pitch then tent in rain with the rain cover already attached. Another difference if I've just missed this in the video it has the long sweeping singular zip like the v2 but then it has another zip by your feet as a vent. So it still has two zips that meet just like the V1 just lower down rather than in the corner. I can't find a video of the V2 that looks like mine 100% just curious to why that might be.
Hmmm... I don't have mine anymore. I'd be interested to see if they have made slight tweaks. I guess if they make small changes then they won't say V3 as it hasn't changed enough.

Not often you buy a product with version numbers and get something different... I just need someone to clarify 🤣 Especially when its a sought after FEATURE, seems like the perfect selling point for this tent, set up even faster and in wet conditions... 🤷♂
Great review. I thought the V2 was 5000hh and V1 was 3000hh ?
I might have got it wrong. There was lots of different information online. I suspect the V2 has 5000mm in line with the other tents in the range.
Checked Internet, your old review on V1 ? V1 4000HH and V2 5000hh. Got the V2 amongst other tents and an OEX roof tent. Not used it yet but looks great for backpacking or cycling. Thanks
Are these tents offshoots of the gelert solo, or were there similar designs even before that?
I think it's a very common design. Gelert is also a Go Outdoor brand so maybe they are related. I've had other tents quite old with pretty much identical basic design.

Yes, Bobcat is good for that. I suspect the Phoxx is the better pick in high winds.
Where sales these for £30/£40 I can only find them for 60/80
They're for sale all the time on Facebook Marketplace. That's where I got them from. I need to sell both of them on again.
The v two is as good as a Vango Banshee
Probably better in a storm as the Banshee is a bit higher I think.
