Bought this tent few weeks ago but still haven’t used it yet. I bought it because like u I love OEX and the build quality is always great. I had a cheep one man tent from Aldi and it was ok but wasn’t very waterproof and the foot box area had no poles so your feet where hitting the bottom roof. I have been trying to get this on go outdoors and millets for the last 2 months or so but anytime it came in it would go out of stock just as quick so I think it’s a popular tent. Glad I have it now though. Great video as always. Thanks Dan.
Bought this last September. Did a couple of one night camps in Kent and have now moved to Scotland. Had 2 nights out. 1 on the bealach between Ben More and Stob Binnein. Windy, rain. Had to get help from friend to put the fly sheet on. Great for getting in and chilling but not for doing anything else. 2nd time was last week just off the summit of Ben More. Put it up in 5 minutes. Very windy night and it stood up well. It is cramped, but as you say, it is a one person tent! All this aside, it is a great little tent. As I write I see Go Outdoors are doing a bit of a deal on the Phoxx 2... Half a kilo heavier but I am very tempted!
Great review! I just purchased this tent to lighten my load a bit, I wanted to push it as low as possible while keeping the price low and the durability high. This one seemed to tick all the boxes! Luckily I’m a 5’7” & size 10 slim female so should have enough room! I already carry an extra tarp and a waterproof picnic rug so that should solve the cooking in rain problem. Hoping to try it first time next week, let’s see how it performs in some Scottish weather!
@@englishwoodsman It’ll be just perfect then :) I’m on an island on the west coast so camping in winter would be about as much fun as sleeping with horny porcupines... I generally hang my backpacking gear up around October.
Greetings from West Yorkshire ,another great tutorial . Im absolutely against these one man low profile tents , they are light weight compact and great for all that BUT and this is my point you must be able to sit up in the tent ,laying down to cook or boil a brew at the end of the day is so dangerous especially if extremely tired? as a former medic I have seen it so many times ,guys stop for the night through up their hoop bivi get a brew on light a cig stare out in to space and then BANG you have dozed off and gone face first in to your stove , again another great film glad to have found you .
Just found your review after looking for a 1 man tent, great tips and brilliant review thank you, I’m 5’7 and reckon it would be a good buy for me if I can still find one🤞👍🏻
I use a lunar solo treking pole tent weighs 750g and its very spacious inside, loads of vestabule space to cook in and keep shoes and water and pack, enough space to keep your pack inside and to sit up and get changed, I was I bit skeptic at first but works., love the vids dude.
I bought one of these, because of the good reviews they've received. I DO like it, but it is quite a confined space inside. One thing I have found, the thickness of your sleeping mat makes quite a difference, as the inside of the tent slopes inwards by your head. My 5 cm thick (mountain equipment Glacier 5.0) means there's not much space between head/face and inner tent wall; but this is improved with a thinner sleeping mat, That's something to keep in mind.
I should mention, the Glacier 5.0 *only just* (about 60cm wide) fits in the Phoxx 1 V2. Which is another reason, a shallower, narrower option would be a wiser option perhaps.
I reckon a mix of this and the Snugpak Ionosphere would be more or less perfect. Love the side entrance of the OEX, having two entrances, and how far the flysheet comes out for boots etc. Also those wind clips are a really good idea. Snugpak though the inner is all mesh, which is really nice as it's completely bugproof and well ventilated so you don't get any condensation at all. In summer, just that mesh inner and a tarp is nice to give you protected sleeping from bugs but also some living space to cook in. Feels less claustrophobic when you can see all around too I guess. It has little velcro ties to the poles for the flysheet which is nice and quick. But a mesh inner with a slightly bigger fly and OEX style side entrances on both sides would be perfect for me!
graet logical review , i have this tent and think its very well made for the price , decades ago I owned the saunders jet packer that I loved and this seems quite similar
I've owned one of these for about a year, and at 5'11" it's never faulted me in sleeping or changing in it. Deffo something to get used to, but after one or two initial tries I've found changing to be a relative ease. Can get rather sauna-ish in heatwave weather, but that's easily remedied by utilising the ventilation spots. Overall I'd say go for it, just be mindful that most people can't sit up in it properly
@@callummaidment5239 Just about mate, deffo have to make more use of the side "pocket" next to the door but if you play your cards right and it should be ok. Mind you, if I have trouble sitting up in it, you'll deffo need to stick your head outside the tent to do the same!
Awesome video as always pal, you didn’t mess around getting this one uploaded, I saw the picture on instagram yesterday and video in less than 24hours 👌👌👌
I got a 1 person tent. Really like it... for what it is. Took it on a back property camp at a farm. We were there for a long weekend and the sky opened up halfway through. While I remained warm and dry, I was stuck in my tent for a significant part of the day, barely able to lean on my elbow, though thankfully the vestibule was large enough to cook in with my small BRS stove. That weekend taught me both that I had picked a really good tent, and that that tent was best used in specific circumstances and in conjunction with a tarp. My 2 person tent is heavier, but at least I can be comfortable staying in it for a significant amount of time, and I can change my clothes without leaving the tent
Thanks for a good honest review. for the same weight and packsize, my Zephyros 1 seems a palace in comparison, I can get changed in it, have cooked with the door pegged open with a bit of cord, I suppose all 1 person tents are going to be a compromise, but these look to be just a sleep shelter as some have said. Cheers.
Really good vid, I have the Phox ll, great for motorbike and backpacking, the 5000 HH means it s watertight, and I can confirm this is the case, great little tents, I use a tarp which allows me to be outside under canvas, I also have a 5m Bell tent so all basis covered. Do what the man says and Get Out and give it a try, you cant loose for £50!
I have one that is almost the same, but even smaller ! You are right, they are just for sleeping in and that's it. Winter time if the weather is not looking good, I take a tarp and make a porch or dry cooking / sitting area. One thing with the inner 1st tents. In the very warm weather you can use just the inner as a bug net and put a tarp high over it to keep you dry but still gets some nice air flow. Regards JB.
I am coming back to the UK to do some work and I am planning on stealth camping, I am keeping my money and I am not paying hotel fees. i did this before In Norfolk during the 2008 financial crisis I didn't have a problem with is and in fact I enjoyed it roll on CANZUK so I can head off to Canada.
Good tent for Bikepacking. Straps to the handlebars easy enough without fouling levers/cables. Wild camped up on the South Downs and had 60 mph winds coming off the coast and it withstood it pretty well; was more worried about the tree I'd pitched up under! Used it on several times, good for £40. I'm 5ft 10 and medium build, space is pretty tight. Saved 15% of the total weight by swapping for titanium tent pegs.
I am 176cm and I can literally still change clothes whilst laying in a camping hammock, im sure a lot of people have no issue changing clothes whilst half laying down in a tent like this. Also, usually one brings a tarp along when using tents like this to make a little dry sitting/cooking area infront of the tent, cutting out the need to do any of that inside the tent. Thanks for the honest review.
Another. Good watch 😎☝️ I definitely need a 3 man lol 😂 but then most of my camping is on a motorcycle 😎☝️🇬🇧🏍 but I have just ordered a hammock and tarp
great video, thanks for explaining things some other people didnt. I was interested that you said you cant really move around in it, i have never really heard that in a review before.. usually the review goes on about how cool it is for stealth camping and then forgets about anything else useful to say. like i said, great video, keep it up.
I'm 6'1 and I can fit in this tent with my bag as a pillow and it was fine as long as don't fully stretch out. It is tight but worth it for less space taken up in bag in my opinion.
Careful with winter camping in something like that. I'm 6'2" and have found that when it's cold it's easy to get stiff and aches when you can't stretch out. Very hard finding a long enough tent that isn't unreasonably heavy though
I was going to review the v2 myself but wasn't bold enough to publish. I appreciated your first video. I'm not into the video far but can guarentee i'll be getting to 2 man. And i'f it were dry'ish i leave the inner set up and drying out as i do my breakfast. Condensation had been not great but seems to be when i exit the tent in the morning opeining the door is what gets the inner damp for me.
I have Robens Starlight 2 and that is smallest I would go. Not that bigger and heavier than Starlight 1 (I`m guessing similar weight as this one, even though it has just one pole) but Starlight 2 gives that additional room that allows for camping in all weather scenarios, spring through fall. Not exceedingly comfortable on long trips, but I just love it.
Thanks for this Dan. I use to own the original black Phoxx 1 and I like the upgrades they've done. However, I completely agree with you about the restrictions of these tents - unless I guess you have a tarp over the top. Like the colour of it. 17 pegs??? That's a lot but then they haven't designed it for the outer and inner to make use of the same pegging out points. Thanks again. ATB - Ben
Good and fair review mate, well done. Personally i'm not a one man fan, if it weighed closer to 1KG then that would be a fair trade off for the lack of room. I bought a Naturehike cloud up 2 last year, and it weighs roughly 1.5 KG. Tons of room to sit up, just about brew up in the porch in an emergency. Another good one on the market is an alpkit soloist. Which looks incredibly similar to the Naturehike. Made in the same Chinese factory i suspect. The advantage of pitching the inside first, is you get a bug mesh only tent for a summer camp out in good weather. Odds are against being able to do that if its pitched outside first.
Evening Dan. Interesting video mate. Try the burghouse peak 3.1. You move about in it cook in it. An change in it. Its a one man tent with loads of room. Hope this is useful mate. Tc Andy
The one man tents of this size & dimension really do limit what you can & cannot do whilst camping, like you say if you just want to get your head down & go to sleep or listen to some tunes then they will do the job,if you are tent bound due to bad weather well you are in for a bit of a torrid time...if anyone is looking for a roomy one man tent I'd definitely check out the Nordisk Svalbard 1..it's lighter than this tent,30cm higher meaning you can sit up easily & drink/get dressed or undressed,it's longer & wider,a vestibule you can cook in if need be & it's wind speed tested to withstand a hurricane & you can pick them up new for about £150 online. I always like your honest reviews on gear be it good or bad & that can only help us all in the long run as we renew or upgrade our gear..cheers fella
I stick to my esp low pro full brolly system yes its a one man but its high a nuff to seat up right in get changed even safe a nuff with door open to cook in and takes about 1 minute to put full up and in the bad weather thats a god send !
great video as always, wish you uploaded this a few weeks ago as i recently decided to go wild camping for the first time in this exact same tent. it was so much smaller than i imagined and i could hardly fit myself and a backpack in there! wasn't the best experience
bought a similar tent(new) for silly money on ebay earlier in the year, great for sleeping in, but I also carry a tarp to go with it, that way if weather is inclement, you are able to have some head room, for cooking / changing clothes / etc and be dry
It’s a nice looking tent that but like you mention no good in rainy days! I went with the wild country helm 2 because it has enough room for me and kit plus I can sit up in it and you can pitch it up with the inner already attacked to outer. Great vid dan
Nice one Dan, looks great protection tent for backpacking and just in it to sleep. Anything else and would need a tarp would you agree? The tent poles alongside trekking poles combo may lend itself to a quick tarp set up. Doing so would vastly improve conditions.
Good review, the tent looks a faff to put up especially in the rain and 17 pegs seems alot. I agree with what you said about one man tents with the exception of the Hilleberg Soulo i found I could get changed and cook easily but then you are paying a premium for it.

the netting by the head is good thinking on the oex side for the condensation...1.7kg is a good weight for distance hikes so worth looking at for fifty quid. some nice features. peace pall.
For all Im not gonna get one (6 foot 3, have no chance of fitting in it haha) it looks like a brilliantly made 1 man tent. Titanium poles, inner clips to poles and the clips for the fly sheet. All great features and looks very well made for such a reasonable price. Class review mate!
I was looking at the cost and weight of the tents before I bought mine. I started looking at space aswell to winter camping can all be done in one tent. So true...for not a lot more weight a two man tent gives you so much more while camping .I use a Coleman cobra 2RS and its spot on . Comes in at under 2.8 kg and loads of room. 😊
Reminds me of my argos tiger paws , a tent that served me well for a year or two even surviving a blizzard but I've needed more and more room as I've got older so moved on to a banshee and a couple of nature hike tents targa 2 and now cloud peak , a two person is a minimum for one person and kit and the nature hike tents allow me more space and are high enough to sit up in yet still light weight and sturdy but at £50 this looks to be a bargain
Great general tent but The poles are pretty fragile so you can't tighten them too much. I've had 2 joints bend and 1 snap after a year of sparse use. Honestly if you're more than a casual camper wanting a small profile tent, get a tarp.
I’ve got a cheap gelert solo tent used a couple off times on motorcycle trips but I think I will bring a tarp as well to sit over top to give me more room etc witch I think is a good idea if your using these small tents 👍
I just bought one (oct 2nd) from Go Outdoors for £39.99. All one man tents are pretty tough to live in. This is the third one I have tried and hopefully has the least compromised design. The side opening is deffo a big plus compared to the end only of existing tunnel tent.
I've recently bought a phoxx1 tent. I like the quality! There's 1 problem I've found, I have yet to find a technique to remove my bra, or for that matter to put it back on, in the morning, inside the tent. I of course realised this is a problem that English Woodsman hasn't encountered?
Got this tent last month and am taking it out for the first time tomorrow. At 5’6” and slim I’m not envisioning that many issues with space. I’ll be trekking and camping but have a tarp and my trekking poles with me anyway, so can always build myself extra room for cooking etc, should I need it.

I’m 6”1 and i do just fit in but you’re right I can’t move much 😅
hi Dan . Any chance you could do a phoxx 1 v a phoxx 2 for a comparison . Great honest review by the way , as always . 👍👍
It's a great summer tent
@@englishwoodsman It’ll be just perfect then :) I’m on an island on the west coast so camping in winter would be about as much fun as sleeping with horny porcupines... I generally hang my backpacking gear up around October.
Got one myself a few months back for £90 and thats with a sale on, great video keep it up!
I love it, mate you are the real deal, I hope I have one of that 1 man tent absolutely awesome!
You can just buy them at go outdoors
@@englishwoodsman Ta for that, I’m going to the Chester branch today, they are having a closing down for refurb sale. 👍🏻👍🏻
I recently got the 2.0 backwards bungalow just loved it's unusual set up desided to build a bug out bag arround it ty for the cool reviews 👍🇬🇧
Good, straightforward, honest review
I use a lunar solo treking pole tent weighs 750g and its very spacious inside, loads of vestabule space to cook in and keep shoes and water and pack, enough space to keep your pack inside and to sit up and get changed, I was I bit skeptic at first but works., love the vids dude.
Hi mate thankyou for watching and taking the time to comment
I bought one of these, because of the good reviews they've received.
I DO like it, but it is quite a confined space inside. One thing I have found,
the thickness of your sleeping mat makes quite a difference, as the
inside of the tent slopes inwards by your head.
My 5 cm thick (mountain equipment Glacier 5.0) means there's not much space between
head/face and inner tent wall; but this is improved with a thinner sleeping mat,
That's something to keep in mind.
Another honest and straight forward review Dan, nice one.
I'm 6ft 5 you reckon I could get away with it ?
Cheers.
Much appreciated thinking of getting a one man tent ill only use it in summer and I'm 5 8 too so great comparison
Nice review mate, my son uses the phoxx 1 and is fine for him... seems like a big bulky bivvy bag really 😂👍🏼 thanks for sharing mate
Ash
I have one that is almost the same, but even smaller ! You are right, they are just for sleeping in and that's it. Winter time if the weather is not looking good, I take a tarp and make a porch or dry cooking / sitting area. One thing with the inner 1st tents. In the very warm weather you can use just the inner as a bug net and put a tarp high over it to keep you dry but still gets some nice air flow. Regards JB.
Feel the same...thats why I combined It with tarp. Nice video🙂👌
Swap out the steel pegs and remove the stuff sack and this drops the weight to 1.4 kg great low profile tent.
I also camp off a motorcycle, so I like the small form factor of a one man tent, I love the OEX bobcat and swear by it
I’m only 5’10 so it’s not bad space for me. I got mine cheap last year end of season at go outdoors. Not bad for an over nighter.
As 6'3" i find a one man tent doesn't give me enough room
Good straight forward review
great video, thanks for explaining things some other people didnt. I was interested that you said you cant really move around in it, i have never really heard that in a review before.. usually the review goes on about how cool it is for stealth camping and then forgets about anything else useful to say. like i said, great video, keep it up.
Thank you for this video. Very helpful, a specially comments about what you can and can't do in this tent. Very helpful :)
Lol @ "attacked" to the outer! 😂
Assuming attached is the intended meaning 😜😁
@@GypsyGirl317 you no lol
Nice one Dan, looks great protection tent for backpacking and just in it to sleep. Anything else and would need a tarp would you agree? The tent poles alongside trekking poles combo may lend itself to a quick tarp set up. Doing so would vastly improve conditions.
Good review, the tent looks a faff to put up especially in the rain and 17 pegs seems alot. I agree with what you said about one man tents with the exception of the Hilleberg Soulo i found I could get changed and cook easily but then you are paying a premium for it.
I just checked the price of the Soulo, wow lol.
@@GeordiLaForgery it's a good tent, but I ended up selling an getting the Hilleberg Allak because I wanted more room and 2 porches.
@@steveharrison1765 Very nice, £1000, worth it if you camp often. I've got Snugpak Scorpion. 👍
@@GeordiLaForgery the scorpion is decent, Luke from TOGR did a review of it in the snow and its snow shedding was excellent and its very strong as well.
@@steveharrison1765 yeah it's a good quality tent.
Great honest review. I'm looking for a new tent for canoe camping, don't think it'll be the Phoxx 1 v2 though, now I've seen this. However, it is an improvement. Cheers Dan. All the best
If I had a go outdoors local to me I would buy this for £50 it has it’s flaws but I know for the money it is still a great value tent that I would find a use for
It’s almost like its a luxurious bivvy 🤣
OEX man 🙂 they should sponsor you, awesome review thx. Check out the Terra Nova Helm compact 1 the best tent under 200 garrenteed but they sell like the PS5 always out of stock, the Alpkit Soloist is the only other tent I recommend under 150.
this is the only video Ive seen on this tent where its actually erected properly. nobody else uses the ties inside the fly sheet to secure it to the poles.
I have a phoxx 1 and love it but in bad weather i put a tarp over to give some cooking and changing space.
the netting by the head is good thinking on the oex side for the condensation...1.7kg is a good weight for distance hikes so worth looking at for fifty quid.
some nice features.
peace pall.
For all Im not gonna get one (6 foot 3, have no chance of fitting in it haha) it looks like a brilliantly made 1 man tent. Titanium poles, inner clips to poles and the clips for the fly sheet. All great features and looks very well made for such a reasonable price. Class review mate!
Yup not much room you made a good few valid points nicely done bud
Is an 85l naples backpack to big to fit in the side department ?
I was looking at the cost and weight of the tents before I bought mine. I started looking at space aswell to winter camping can all be done in one tent. I ended going for the naturehike cloud up 2 in greed. It’s a 2 man and great head height and storage. For 89 it’s well worth it at only 1.4kg. Worth a look at.
Shame the CloudUp2 are now closer to £150, I'd be all over one of those if they were under £100
@@Spaghettikid I’ve now sold my up 2 and gone over to hammock set up. I had a stroke and I’m mostly wheelchair at the mo. When I get up and out again I’ll be tree swinging. I got a eBay hammock that’s got it’s own bugnet. I’ve gone for the Dd xl tarp but I’m looking at a hammock hot tent from onewind. I could get me and two maxes on the ground in that and split the weight
I need to get a spare pole for the bottom of mine, any clue where I can get one from?
Good review there Dan,just bought the phox 2,luke you say if they had made it all pitch together, it would have been a fantastic tent but still not bad
How is the elastic inside the poles though ?
being a solo motorcyclist camper this tent would do me no good no room to fart let alone anything else .....i ended up buying the OEX Coyote III 3 Person Expedition Tent hopefully you can do a review on it as i am still yet to use it no thanks to the covid paranoia :)
I have a 1 man tent (Wild Country Coshe micro) and its tiny!! I had to sleep curled up with the door half open to avoid drowning in condensation! However it's half the weight of my Vango Banshee 200 which means I have room for extra beers so it's not all bad!!
I have a similar bivy tent like that, it’s called the golden bear. There’s some RUclips videos of it to give you an idea of what it’s like. It worked great for a couple nights camping in the summer, plenty of ventilation.
Great vid my friend thankyou for sharing...no..i brought this exact same tent in go outdoors in July...bargain I thought...its still waiting to be used lol...but its given me an idea of what to expect...away this weekend canoe camping for 3 days...we weather expected so will take another tent ...cheers mate 👍 atb jj
The good old Bobcat is outer pitch first or if you leave the inner in you can pitch both together 🤘🤘
Nice vid pal love the review stuff you do would like to see a review on how you pack all your gear when out keep them coming
Hav to that's a grate review will be perchesing 1 of these grate to not here music in background thanks 👍
A year on, I've still found on, can't wait to get it out
good video gives me idears could use basher over it in winter more weight to carry though
Great video as always Dan 👍👍
I've recently bought a phoxx1 tent. I like the quality!
There's 1 problem I've found, I have yet to find a technique to remove my bra, or for that matter to put it back on, in the morning, inside the tent.
I of course realised this is a problem that English Woodsman hasn't encountered?
I've solved the getting my bra off in the Phoxx 1 v2 with the help of those nice people from Bravissimo.
FYI , the OEX Bobcat is Outer pitch first.
Hi mate yes the Bobcat is outer first so it the Bandicoot
Great vlog E.W. Great tent, learnt a lot. Thanks.
Tutankhamun Tuta maaaan. I've been really enjoying this tent a roo. Big luv luvs Dan the man...
Can't get the Phoxx 1 or Phoxx II for love nor money right now.
Right fancy the Phoxx II too.
Try Tiso got the phoxx 1 v2 from them at £55 still to try it out yet
I have an old coleman rigel so that looks pretty spacious to me!
Got this tent last month and am taking it out for the first time tomorrow. At 5’6” and slim I’m not envisioning that many issues with space. I’ll be trekking and camping but have a tarp and my trekking poles with me anyway, so can always build myself extra room for cooking etc, should I need it.
