I used this tent on my first wild camp last weekend, it was battered by 50mph winds and rain, it took it amazingly well and stood up to everything Mother Nature threw at it. I will be using it on every camp from now on, such a reliable tent.
Great to hear! It's an amazingly tough bit of kit. Don't think i've ever heard of one being torn in bad weather (only through misuse) and the only damage mine ever took was a snapped guy-line in real bad wind. Good kit, no doubt!
Good review! I've got the Phoxx 1 V2, cracking little tent for a bikepacker! Not sure why people complain about it's size, unless they're a 'big un'? At 5'11 and 72kg it's plenty for me to crash into, although it's complemented nicely with a little 2x2 tarp. Also bought a Bobcat, it pitches like a dogs back leg, and the inner hangs down like an old pair of drawers, seriously floored design! It's going on ebay, bloody junk!
Had this tent for a year now. Used 30 times now over that year and 18 times in the Highlands of Scotland and it's done everything you would want a tent to do
Captain Kernowcamps?! 😂🤣😋 is that your new nickname?! 😂 Great review, looks like a good little tent and it’s sooo good to have you and Dave back on our screens!! Have a great weekend Daniel!! 🥰
Having bought the phoxx 11v2 it was good to see a review from someone who has had the tent for a while and put it to the test,as I go camping myself and don't have a dog I find there is enough space for me and my kit,so really enjoyed the review and look forward to more of your vids, new subscriber,so keep em coming mate.
Glad you enjoy it! i think the Phoxx is amazing, especially for the price. Glad there is enough room for you and your kit, but really you ought to get yourself a dog too 😉
I'm doing a look around for tents and really fancy this one as my first wildcamp tent. Came across your review and it sound perfect for me. So definitely edging towards one of these. Thank you very much. Say hi to Dave for me, looks a star.
Dave is a proper awesome little chap, I’ll pass it on! Hope the Phoxx serves you well, it’s one of, if not THE best tent in the UK for the price and spec…in my opinion.
Did my first wild camp in this during the summer, the double doors were a godsend as it really helped with airflow. It's about 2kg but when ya consider that is for a 2 person tent albeit quite snug! It's a great deal. I changed the bag it is stored in for a smaller stuff sack, I take out the poles and pegs, allowing me to squash the tent down to a very small pack size. I realy don't see the point in spending another 100 quid or so to get something a bit lighter.
Totally agree about the doors bud. I also separate it into two compression bags, and store the poles and pegs in sepearate areas of of my backpack when out on a hike to camp, makes for better weight distribution and easier to pack, plus keeping wet parts away from dry after a camp. I do this, where possible with all my tents. makes sense. I wish i could have the same "don't see the point in spending" attitude as you, which is why I now have, more-or-less, far too many tents!
@@KernowCamps haha i can imagine it can be quite addictive buying new gear when you're really into wild camping. I only started in summer so I am sure the bug will get me eventually !
I agree with the issue of the inner sagging, it’s worst in the phoxx 1, I think a solution would to run a thin line between the two poles and hook the inner to it.
Brilliantly crafted video. I have this tent & the PHOXX 1 v2 and the Bobcat. I would say take the tent that suits the weather you will be experiencing, the PHOXX 1 is great for good weather because you can do everything outside, secondly, when you’re out you want to be outside rather than in a tent, so both the PHOXX 1 & 2 would be ideal. Weight wise? I agree, personal abilities dictates that, for me, I’d rather be comfortable and enjoy the experience rather than get obsessive over lightweight kit. I personally, will be taking this tent (PHOXX 2) on the Cumbria way national trail (78 miles over five days wild camping the entire route) Thanks for the brilliant review 😊
Glad you enjoyed the review buddy. I hear what you’re saying about having the right shelter for the conditions. I think the Phoxx 1 is far too small for most, little more than a glorified bivvy bag! Hope the Cumbria goes well for you, it’s a trek I’d love to achieve but know it won’t happen for me. Take it easy bud!
@@dansmith1100 honestly, I don’t know which I prefer. While the Phoxx II has more interior floor space for you and your gear in bad weather, the Bobcat has a ground sheet in the vestibule and more height for extended stays indoors. However if you’re comparing the Phoxx I to the Bobcat, I reckon the bobcat wins hands down UNLESS you’re going for stealth, in which case the Phoxx I has the low profile advantage.
A lot of info. I’m hoping to go wild camping with my dog too, I was considering the Phoxx 1 but after watching this I think the Phoxx 11 seems a better choice albeit with the heavier weight. Cheers
Haha - subscribed when I saw the dog. Been looking for another tent. I have a Vaude and a Tarpent - both quite dear - but I got wet in Wales last year and after a tent just for the lovely U.K. and places like Tibet - rather than the Serengeti or Karoo where space is more important as I am allergic to leopards and honey badgers!!! Cheers
I used this tent near Pembrey beach in Wales in 50mph wind and maybe I pitched it incorrectly however I felt the wind passing over me and was flapping so much I left the tent and went into my car. However I like your review and say hi to Dave for me :)
Might sort them but this review was based on how the tent is as standard. I get around it by being really annoyed and then drinking some JD. After which I don’t much care 😂 Thanks for watching and taking time out to comment. Proper appreciate it. PS: what makes you think I’d have hair bands laying about…. 🥚
I've done the same a number of times, it's nice to expand the usability of the tent in that way, but it add's a bit more weight and takes up more room in my pack, so I on'y tend to do that if I am camping local, or on a camp site.
@@ianwatson194 There was just about enough room for the two of us, cosy but manageable. Will definitely use it again, set up and pack up was quick and easy too 👌🏻
@ianwatson194 Oh wow, big boy 😂 But yeah it was a decent size, okay sharing with the dog but I'd probably go for a bigger model if sharing with a human
Did you come up with a solution for those toggles? I’m thinking of some weak magnets or something, also rigging up some webbing underneath that can be adjusted to make the inner smaller but give more space in the vestibule for cooking, I think Vango does that on some of there tents.
I’ve not come up with a solution. I’ve used magnets to try and sort the same problem on another tent (Naturehike Mongar 2) but found the solution unreliable in anything more than a breeze. I think that depending how you use the vestibule there is ample room. It’s a good storage and cooking space.
It’s a good question. Off-season prices do tend to be comparatively cheaper, yes, however there are always “deals” to be found even during the summer months

I've been used to carrying a Vango soul 300 and now for me this is a very light tent. My phoxx2 has a fab stitched about a ft along the bottom of the zip preventing it from being fully zipped across that I've never seen in any other review. Any one else have this ?
Been using mine for a few years now and love it, been looking at the Lanshan 2 as I now use tracking poles but in reality this tent is so good I don't see the point in spending £170 on the Lanshan
The Lanshan is a great option for saving space and weight in your pack as well as having loads of room, but if that’s if no concern I am certain you’ll be served well by the Phoxx!
Does in not have mesh doors? This tent looks very promissing, but if it doesn't have mesh doors I'll have to look further, as I'd like to be able to open both sides in the summer so I don't float away from sweating. :P
Ultra lite means less durable material, that’s how the weight is saved, I worked in the industry for years, for its weight and price point this OEX is a bargain
I stopped watching this a few minutes in when you got annoyed you could not do up the toggles one handed who ( apart from you ) tries to do the toggles up one handed ?as for them being to to long you could easily shorten them by putting a knot in them.
Great review for a small stealthy robust tent, I might buy it for high winds and stealth camps, as for my double walled lan shan 2 old style 1.15kg not the pro, I like that I have modified it 1st lockdown with 8 extra peg points and slept in it in Norway UK with -10C temperature's with inner mesh 3 season inner, as well as 60 mph winds and held well, and better than the lan shan pro for condensation I have had over 60 camps + with 45+ wild camps and fab-sealed it twice and still going strong, I think I am lucky or have been lucky with fabric not tearing in very strong winds on quite a few occasions due to the tent being the older original kiki 3 ul robust version! the height of the lan shan 2 is also fantastic, I wish I had a camo colour, or the khaki for summer stealth camps, that is where the Phoxx might come into play
