Boarding Carnival MARDI GRAS - Our First Mega Ship Experience!!

- We are sailing again with Carnival... and what a ship Mardi Gras is!! This is the first mega ship that CCL has ever built and it is incredible! We loved pulling up in Port Canaveral and seeing this massive ship for the first time!!! Exploring the ship will take us all week... but we know where Guy's Burger Joint is and we head there first for lunch. And yes, they are as good as we remember!!
We have been on four cruises with four different cruise lines and let me tell you, no one does a sail away party like Carnival! Chris 'The Flying Scotsman' was our cruise director and he had everyone singing and dancing as we headed out to sea!
In trying something new, we had a cove balcony for the first time. What is a cove balcony? It is a balcony cabin on a lower deck that is inset, from the outside of the ship, it looks like a big window! It was neat to be outside and so close to the water... we even saw dolphins swimming around us.

Jason, when I'm doing low carb or no Carb, i call my burgers without buns "hamburger or cheeseburger salad". It's the perfect meal. I love it!
Cove balcony cabins can in high seas have waves crash into balcony, that's why door opens out and they are reinforced so the waves won't crash into room 😎
A wave crashing into your room sure would wake you up in a hurry!
And remember, on the Vista and Dream class ships, the cove balconies are on deck 2. I can verify that if the waves are high, you will get soaked out on the balcony. 🌊🌊🌊.

Discovered you guys from Parodeejay’s videos. One plus of the fact that we’ve had to have a cruise restart is that we get to see a bunch of vloggers together and find new content. And Jay does dance!
We love shuttling to port!!! My 1st cruise we did it!!! I don’t do a gangway dance but do one as I get on like wat I saw in this video!!! My bloke just said he can’t have fun during the Muster, he’s still hoping things go back, I don’t care ether way!!! We love guys burgers and I always get a bunless burger, I was bought up on bunless burgers at home. My mum gave us the choice of buns or bunless but we learnt bunless are way better!!! We love both it’s own space and part of a deck!!! We always have tons of luggage as we have a Suite and have a more ppl in the room. The plugs are awesome!!! That closet is awesome!!!

Only the cove balcony cabins have the open shut doors and that awkward wall space, was like that on the Magic too. I also noticed the coves were so much smaller than a regular balcony. Still a sweet spot being so close to the water! 🌊 🐬 ❤️
Hi you two beautiful fun kid's.. I can feel your excitement.lol funny story when I lived in Ocean Springs MS Gulf Coast 2001.I was working at a yacht club. One of my patrons had worked and just retired from Carnival. She was friends with one of the big wigs well he came into the yacht club with her.. HIRED me on the spot. He said no you don't want to be a bartender you won't make any money. So he hired me I think as an activity director does that sound right? Only gave me I think 2 days to think about it. He assured me I had the job I just had to fly to Miami for the application process. Which they would have PAID for the air fare... I would have took it in a heartbeat just because you work 6 mo.on Get 6 wks. off.. give me plenty of time to land travel. But I had a dog and cat at the time that were truly like my kids. And I just could not kennel them for 6 mo. at a time I just could not do that to them. So lost that opportunity. But if I would not of have them.. I would have accepted in a heartbeat! I'm not a fan of cruise ships like I've told you before. But I would have got to see the world.And 6wks. off WOW.. your balcony maybe small.. but hey still room to sit out and enjoy it!. Love love love you guys's videos I'll always armchair along with you!💗

I’m on the P & O Iona in February.. the Mardi Gras sister ship in England… it’s on my bucket list to go on the Mardi Gras someday :) think we have equivalent of a cove balcony … so good to know what to expect…lovely to see Dee and Jay with you guys !!!

I just have to say that I loved seeing Jay in front of the camera dancing. It's different but nice. Parodeejay is awesome but Jay needs to get in front of the camera like this more often.
Also, I hope they are both doing well since quarantine on the ship.

That cabin looks smaller than any older carnival ship balcony. I've been on 9 CCL ships and this is tiny. Nice looking cabin, very modern. I agree that balcony door wasn't thought out well.

Most Mardi Gras balcony doors are sliding glass. However Cove balconies are found very low on the ship, underneath the lifeboats. Perhaps they are configured differently as a safety feature.

We’re in a regular balcony room on deck 15 and it does have a sliding door. Balcony is nice.
That was the 1st. Thing I noticed when u walked into the room., was the stran wall & thought why did they block the beautiful view w/ a damn wall .. lol.. definitely should've been a slider ...
The balcony door opening outward, I inside of sliding g must be because of the proximity to the water. I know that most decks do have sliding doors on the Mardi Gras. I did see a video of a forward facing balcony that also had a door that opened out. Maybe that's why?

Someone else may have mentioned, but thought I heard on cove balconies that since they're so close to the water, there needs to be some mechanism to close them up if seas are rough. So perhaps easier to do with individual doors vs. slider? Took our first carnival cruise last October on Panorama, and Guys burger was all I'd heard about it. Loved it.. Hope to go again soon! Great vlog as usual!
I am not a fry eater but there is something about guy’s fries that are so good. I will eat them two or three times on the cruise.

Cove Balconies are my absolute favorite as it's a close to the water as you can get. Unfortunately for structural reasons, the coves have the separate window and door that opens out. All the other Balconies on the ship had practically all glass walls with a sliding door. But unlike previous ships the Cove railings are glass as well. 72 days till my Mardi Gras Halloween Cruise AND I just added the Elation beforehand for my first side to side cruise! So 67 days till my Elation/ Mardi Gras adventure! I cannot wait.

Hardee's actually della any of their big burgers wrapped in iceberg lettuce, so they're low carb burgers immediately. Perfect meal!
I’ve always found Carnival ships food to be sub-par in comparison to other lines. The cabin is nice, I like the decor. Thank you for the tour!
I didn't think the balcony was that small. It looks larger than the NCL Breakaway class ships. That's a good catch about the design flaw about the door. What good is the table if it constantly needs moved to open the door.
It’s pretty small! But we still liked it!!
I’m sure that by now, someone has already pointed out that the doors open out for safety reasons. If the weather gets bad and the seas get rough, there is a chance, however small, of waves crashing into the balcony. The door, as is, will act as an extra seal against water getting into the cabin.
The virus is hitting them ships again i saw on news last night 12 people and the ship did not say 1 word to the passengers stay safe and have fun.

Yes the upper balconies have the sliding doors on this ship. We found out it is so they can close a safety door.

I've heard if you turn one of the chairs against the side wall to the other balcony they fit better for room.
