- It is about time! We are finally sailing with Royal Caribbean on one of their FIRST sailings back!! the plan was to sail on Liberty back in April 2020... be we all know what happened there. So we are excited to finally sail with Royal! I can tell you that we love the ship! It feels like home to us as many features are similar to the Carnival ships we started with... mainly a fantastic lido deck!
This was the second sailing for RCCL from the US, the second on Freedom of the Seas. We had previously sailed with Celebrity and we can see some differences in protocols from one cruise line to the other...
Overall, we had a fantastic experience on our first day and are looking forward to the rest of our cruise!!

Love how alive the crews are. They are happy to see passengers back.
Royal never turns anyone away from the main dinning room even if you show up an hour late. You may have to wait a little bit but they will never turn you away for dinner. Real nice video and real nice channel too.

I'm so glad y'all are getting to experience some of the things that we absolutely LOVE about RCCL!!! The Royal Promenade and Flowrider are two of our top faves. And Central Park on the Oasis Class is hard to beat!! I'm guessing that Windjammer was closed for dinner due to the ship not sailing at full capacity and knowing that Sorrento's, the MDR and other dining venues were available and probably didn't feel that there would be enough people enjoying WJ to make it cost effective. I'm SO glad you found Sorrento's!! It's another favorite part of RCCL, for us! We can't wait to watch the rest of the vlogs and sail along with you.

Fabulous video. Glad you two have tried Royal Caribbean. Sharing this video with family. I have only sailed on Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Wait until you try an Oasis class ship on Royal. I resisted due to size and when I finally sailed on Oasis I was amazed and love that class of ship.Hey, no bad days cruising. Thanks.

Windjammer is usually open for dinner; only closed for dinner due to limited capacity on the ships. (Post Covid... ) They don't want to open the Windjammer if most guests will dine in the MDR. We've always done my time dining as we didn't like the assigned dinner time options of early or late... Also, you probably could have gone to the MDR; with limited capacity on the ships, they may have been able to seat you. I think your first RC experience is quite different than what you would have experienced on a pre Covid RC cruise.

@@Mrcruisefever1 I don’t expect RC buffet to be closed for dinner when they are back to sailing at full capacity. It was always open for dinner pre-COVID. I’m hoping this is temporary.

100% agree with this. Royal always had the Windjammer open pre COVID. I think the dinning room could have accommodated you for a different time via my time dining. Hopefully the rest of your cruise went better.
I went on a cruise with royal November 2021 out of San Juan and never have I felt so alive since being trapped for a year in Houston. It was so surreal . I can't wait till October for my next one. Amazing contents y'all. Just subscribed!

You have no idea how much this made me miss cruising more! My wife and I went on a cruise in 2020, the week before the world shutdown. Out of Miami too! I will say I didn't even pizza on that cruise but ate more than enough in 2018 on the Explorer!

Loved the Epic on our Med cruise in 2012. At the time, it was the largest sailing, but never felt crowded. They had the best entertainment we have ever had on a cruise ship.
2012 was my first year on epic,,,,,had done a couple on the jade and the epic was so big compared .....but I love the epic,,NCL is a great relaxing cruise line...great people and food and entertainment ...

Hi from Australia. Went on Explorer of the Seas in 2018. Like you, I loved the promenade and drank many specialty coffees in the Promenade Cafe while we watched the world go by.

I sailed on Voyager of the Seas in February/March 2020 which was my first Royal cruise and the buffet was open until about 11pm. I booked a inside virtual balcony cabin which was surprisingly good. The cabin steward just refused to unlock the balcony. I sailed with friends but I don't like to share so this was the only option for me to be solo. I hope the lack of dining options for dinner didn't spoil your cruise.

I'd wait for a final judgment on if you like a cruise line until thing return to normal. Hard to judge a cruise line when it is trying to handle a pandemic and not create more problems for itself or possibly have to shut down cruising again.

I'm pretty sure the card scanning is more for contact tracing than to determine how many people are in there. I just retired last month after 20 years in Education. Our kids had to scan a QR code on the individual desk they sat at every single day for lunch. That way if a student ever tested positive for covid, our Nurse and admin team would check to see who they sat next to in the cafeteria and in each of their classes. Thankfully, none of our students ever contracted covid at school. Our cleaning protocol was insane, but apparently worked. Very happy to be sitting at home this year, and ready to head to our Alaskan cruise in a few weeks. Enjoy Royal. We sailed on the Allure a few years ago and were blown away. The entertainment was the absolute best we've ever seen. Lots of walking though.
It looks like an awesome ship!!! Being a surfer I also love the vibe of that ship. I’ve been on a inside sail away party cos of rain. We’ve said out of Miami and loved it, it was my sister’s 1st cruise at 6. A few years ago now and it was awesome!!! I don’t understand y the buffet closes b4 dinner. I prefer a spacious room!!!
Both of you are just amazing and I really enjoy watching your cruise videos I found your channel about 6 months ago when I was searching for videos of carnival freedom which I sailed on 3 years ago and had a horrible expierence on my first cruise ever that I would love to share with you both … But as I watch your videos it has been inspiring me to go on another cruise which other cruise enthusiasts are suggesting I do …but just not carnival … anyway thank you for the amazing work that you do to produce such great videos and as always enjoy all of your future travels and I look forward to the next video 🛳

I hope you have a great time. Not sure which cruise line you are booked with but one thing I always tell people if there is any advice they want and that is don't try to do everything on your first cruise. It can get overwhelming and you can end up needing a vacation when you get home from your cruise. Plus it keeps you wanting to go back again. People are either passionate cruisers by the time they get off their first cruise or they cruise once and don't like it. It is highly addicting so prepare yourself for that. LOL.

Good for RCCL for their Covid protocols (back in 2021)! Respect. Love the friendliness and enthusiasm of the crew too. If the buffet closing for dinner was a Covid measure, they probably should have said that so people weren't confused. Love how much fun you have no matter what.

We love the Freedom! Been on her so many times, I can't count. I hope you enjoyed it! Usually, the Windjammer is open until 9pm. I guess they changed things because of Covid. who knows. I hope they change that back soon. We really prefer going to the Windjammer.

Awesome review I went on freedom back in 2011 out of port canaveral. It was a 7nt cruise. I’m going back on it September 20, 2021 out of Miami got a Balcony Garunteed room

Won’t cruise this line if the rules are that strict when you have been vaccinated. They don’t have these requirements on NCL.

The Promenade was way more awesome before Covid. The street parties late at night were loads of fun. Think wall to wall people dancing and singing with the crew! We usually travel RC, but our next trip is on Celebrity! The celebrity Edge is much newer than the Freedom OTS. We loved FOTS when we were on her 10 years ago! :)
IF you like the Freedom you'll love the Oasis class ships I have been on the Freedom also but the Oasis and the Symphony are on another level.

Finally got a chance to watch the whole thing. The port is Miami lol. I love RC ships. I've been on three in my young cruising life (Oasis, Independence, Adventure of the seas). Sorrentos has the best pizza! It's a good option after having one too many Mich Ultras. Those dining hours are all because of Covid. The buffet is usually open for dinner. That's where the wife and I would go for our 2nd dessert of the evening. Our last cruise in early 2020 was on a Norwegian ship where the food is terrible. Never again. Next cruise we're going back to our first love, Royal Caribbean!

I've trained on all type mask, half mask, scba, full many more. The one thing they stressed if you can smell through your mask it's not working. Great video.
This happened to many other cruisers. They simply went to the main dining room and they were accommodated.

The Windjammer is usually open for dinner pre Covid but due to lower occupancy they won’t open the buffet for dinner until they increase the occupancy. If they keep these protocols in place for awhile and you are going on another Royal ship, you might want to sign up for anytime dining just to cover you if you can’t find food. Good choice though! We loved Sorrentos pizza. It was so good we ate light night pizza almost every night.
My first cruise was on Royal Caribbean, as was my second and third. I then tried Carnival Paradise after the 2018 dry dock...we were on that first sailing after dry dock and I absolutely hated it. They had not cleaned the rooms so we had dust everywhere, the food was atrocious (veggie lasagna tasted like it was rolled in flour, steaks never came out properly despite paying the upcharge for them), the Lido buffet was gross with people walking barefoot, eating in line and then touching the buffet utensils to get their food, dropping food on the ground and putting it back into the dish (both workers and guests....promptly dropped my plate off and left). I think my heart is with Royal Caribbean! Our first cruise with them was early 2000's when Cococay was just a beach, some local vendors, and the lunch buffet. I am trying to gather friends for a cruise in 2022/2023 on an Oasis Class ship. I miss Royal Caribbean and their CocoLoco's are the best!
The truth about Carnival has been exposed haha. I use to sell cruises for a travel agency, even their call center services was kinda trash. RCI wasn't perfect but they were always good imo
So sorry your first time on RCCL was not as easy peasy as you're used to experiencing, what with the Windjammer buffet not being open for dinner. Hopefully, as more passengers are allowed to cruise soon, and more dining options and activities will get "back to normal." Take it all in, log it in the books and know that cruising WILL get better for us all! My family and I will be cruising on Adventure of the Seas Jan. 7th. I put it off, hoping this pandemic would level out and we'd have a better overall cruise experience by then. We'll see......

Royal is my favorite line next to NCL. One day I will try the Freedom, looks alot like the Adventure, which I have been on twice.
Yes, people can bring up to 12 cans onboard plus you are allowed 2 bottles of wine only on embarkation day.
Thanks for the heads up. My husband and I usually wear black silicone wedding bands. I think we'll wear one of our different colors on the ship, just in case😂
Beautiful Ship, but just a little to big for me, I like the smaller ships they are more personalized! I'm cruising threw your eyes because I won't be going on any cruise anytime soon wearing a mask that's not my kind of fun on vacation! Thanks for sharing your fun in the sun!!!
