    I have also learned from other videos that you can substitute peanut butter for tahini, but you can't taste the peanut butter when it is finished! I've tried it and it tastes great!

    Definitely do whatever garlic portion is dictated in this video! I thought I was tough and did two cloves...now my breath smells like an Italian dinner table. I managed to balance it out, but it still has a slight garlic bite. I might even suggest using the amount in this video, but from one of those pre minced jars. I find that garlic is a lot softer of a garlic flavor.

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 лет назад

      Garlic can be tricky! Pre-minced garlic or garlic paste can have a more mild flavor, or I've got to be careful and tasting as I go when using fresh garlic!!

    So last night I choose to make the lighter hummus recipe you have in the Meal Prep book! (LOVE the book... I know I told you but hey why not pile on the compliments!)******BUY THE MEAL PREP E BOOK!!!!****** I did not miss the olive oil like I thought I would. it was totally delicious!! I roasted some peppers and onions with garlic to go with my dinner this week so I grabbed some roasted cloves off the sheet pan and a few red pepper strips and let me tell you it was perfect!! my daughter and husband adored it as well! After sampling it and packing my carrot and cucumber hummus snack jars I may have only had a cup left. Next time I will have to make a double recipe! No more store bought hummus for me! No oil and almost fat free!!!! i can eat as much as I love to eat...guilt free!
    Now to try and make Harissa! Oh and the hummus over salmon tastes delicious as a freezer meal too the flavors really meld and flavor the salmon beautifully!

    You should totally make a video on how to make CHICKPEA BLONDIES. I'm not too sure if you've ever had them before but there life changing🙌🏼 I think more people need to know about this guilt free, vegan, gluten free treat. There amazingggg. You could search for different recipes but here's a basic one...
    Ingredients:
    1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, rinsed and drained
    1/2 cup all natural almond butter or peanut butter
    1/3 cup pure maple syrup or agave nectar (you can also use honey if you're not vegan)
    2 teaspoons vanilla
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1/3 cup vegan (or regular) chocolate chips plus 2 tablespoons
    Add all ingredients except chocolate chips in a food processor and blend. Then mix in chocolate chips. Pour batter in an 8x8 greased/lined pan. And bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 mins. Cool and enjoy😋

    Chick pea water is a good tip. Years ago I saw a 'perfect mashed potato' recipe.The guy kept back the potato water and added a little back into the mash...he guaranteed its better than milk, and it was. Ive done it that way since. So yea i imagine it would work the same for the chick peas

      +Emily Donnelly (My Own Damn Show) I discuss in the video that the tahini can be omitted :) I talk about the options when designing your recipe :) Cheers!

      Mind Over Munch Right okay! I actually made some last night and instead of tahini I subbed sesame oil and halved the amount.
      It wasn't bad! Next time I may add less lemon juice because I think mine might be slightly concentrated or have evaporated some so it was STRONG.

    Very nice. I use fat free greek yogurt to add to the creaminess instead of tons of tahini.

    I have peanut butter in the house. Can I substitute tahini for peanut butter? Or can I just leave the tahini and peanut butter out?

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  8 лет назад +1

      I've seen many people use peanut butter instead of tahini in humms but haven't ever tried it, worth a whirl!

    Hey Alyssia, what do you think, how long does the avocado hummus last in the fridge? The problem is, I only eat it alone, my husband and kids do not like it. I am afraid that it might go bad faster because of the avocado compared to normal hummus. Greetings from Germany, Salo

      I would guess these will last around 5 days in the fridge. They might last a week, but I would just trust your eyes and your nose to see if it's going bad! My best suggestion is to squeeze some lemon juice on the hummus, and to brush a piece of plastic wrap with some lemon juice, then cover the hummus so the surface of the plastic wrap is completely flush with the surface of the hummus and no air can get in - the acid from the lemon will help keep it fresh and prevent browning! Cheers from LA :)

    Can hummus be frozen? I would love to make it in bulk but not sure if its freezable.
    thanks x

      Janine Kane I haven't frozen it myself but I have a friend that has! In an airtight container it can last 3-4 months. When you thaw it out in the fridge the hummus may separate so you'll have to mix it up but it should absolutely work :)

    do you need to cook or soak the chickpeas beforehand?

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 лет назад +1

      I use canned chickpeas, which are already cooked! If you're starting with dry chickpeas, yes they need to be cooked :)

      Peanut butter! Or make a "bean dip" without the tahini :) still tasty!

      Mind Over Munch I made bean dip! Tastey! I also added some pepper, meat tenderizer, paprika, and a few others and it was awesome. I mixed it with pasta.

    Warm up peas in warm water first for smoother texture.
