You are cracking me up in this video! I love the going rogue! I feel that a little more than I should! Haha Thanks for taking the time to put this out! I started sewing a little over two years ago, but brand new to quilting. My first patter by Annie is going to be the “A place for everything 2.0”. So I am trying to watch some videos to help me understand how the patterns work.
I posted in here before I started working on the UTB but I watched your video about 4 times. I absolutely love how it came together. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Two of my granddaughter, who are sisters, are headed to live on campus at college. This is the perfect size for their weekend visits. I have gathered my fabric and other supplies. I have watched your video over and over. I am finally ready to start. Wish me luck!
I took a 2 day class to make this bag. I wasn’t able to attend the 2nd day. You are fantastic! I’m a visual learner and I think I can finish this bag now. Thank you! So many tips to have that are so helpful. Happy I found you!
The original version of this bag was one of the very first bags I ever made and it's one of the best ones because Annie is such a great pattern writer and teacher.
I just came across this video and will attempt my first By Annie bag soon. Thank you for being vulnerable as a beginner to help the rest of us out. Can’t wait to begin ❤
I'm so impressed! I know I'm w years after your post, but these videos live on forever and I'm so thankful! I've been eyeing this bag and you're giving me the confidence to want to tackle this project! I'm going to do this in 2024!! Thank you!!
I’m in ultimate travel bag overload ! It took me 1 whole day to lay out the pattern pieces. Day 2 cutting and labeling each piece *** I’m working with teal and parrot blue duck fabric. Print with contrasting solid*** third day I watched all Annie’s videos then on the fourth day began sewing. I wasted another 2 days trying to figure out what goes where. I don’t have the foggiest idea how to construct the bag. I’ve had the pattern, fabric, mesh, hardware etc for 5 years. Everything I’ve quilted/sewn during the5 years has been according to clear directions and pictures with diagrams. This pattern reduces my skill and confidence down to beginner. After listening to the challenges you encountered I was a bit relieved. $$$ please please please $$$ post a link or something that’ll take me to the craftsy video you found that was the most helpful. There are way too many videos that aren’t long enough to be a comprehensive teaching tool. If you can reply with information that I’ll be able to find the video on craftsy. TIP Tailoring chalk I was desperately looking for some marking tool and found tailor marking chalk. It was free to me and thankfully hadn’t tossed it. The chalk doesn’t rub off but can be washed or wiped off.
I'm so sorry that you are having all these problems. I Assure you that you are not the only one. If you have cut out all of the pieces and quilted them you are well on your way. In fortunately because the video is behind a pay wall I can't link it here. I watched it so long ago I'm not even sure it is still available. Try googling the the first edition Ultimate Travel bag on Crafsy something might pop up
Fabulous tips. I'm in the middle of making this bag and totally agrre with your point about pictures so you know where each piece goes. Find I cannot pucture in my mind where each place goes. Hopefully by Annie will take this on board.
Thank you for this video! I have the pattern and have yet to tackle making it. Watching your tips and tricks is motivating me to get going and get it done!
Great video, thank you for the detailed instructions! I’m on my 4th bag and still go back to your video vs the written instructions! Your choice of fabric is fabulous!!
I have not seen your videos but you are just the cutest person to watch. You are radiant and such a beautiful smile. I have not made this bag… I am working on the Take a Stand Bag. But I’m going to watch this whole tutorial anyway. Than I’ll come back again when I try this bag!
So true! By Annie patterns take a little mental gymnastics to understand and execute. Once you make one then you get Annie's process, but that first one is a workout. I just did A Place for Everything as my first By Annie bag and I seriously need time to recover before doing another bag, but every time I see it, I am like damn I made that.
Beautiful bag! This bag is on my bucket list to make but just haven’t taken the first step to start. Your tutorial is fantastic! Love how you fussy cut the straps! Thanks!
I loved your video. You are very entertaining. I saw and heard were you had trouble with sewing the binding on. I found when I sew on the last step of the binding, it helps to decrease the pressure on your foot. My foot floated over the bulk of the binding, instead of quashing it. I t was easier to go around the curves also. Mine was set at 50 and I turned it down to 45 I think. Maybe 40. It made such a difference. OH and I love this bag also. Just recently got the pattern.
Well I don't think you nor Tula will be giving me her bag so I guess I will have to make my own too. Thanks for the video! I feel comfortable enough to give it a try now. I just have to find my lemurs 😉
Just found you, immediately subscribed. Love that bag. You did a fantastic job. Made 2 of them in 2021 as gifts. Never occurred to me to mix fabrics, wish I had. Keep on quilting!
Thank you so much. I have referred to your video several times. I wish I would have saw the video before I paid for the 3 day class and left with an unfinished bag. Keep us informed.❤
Thank you for this video. I just purchased this bag. The five dollar coupon came in the pattern. I had signed up for a class making this way. The cost was 100 dollars. I make bags all the time. I got my money back. I will make this bag.
I have this pattern and hope to make it soon. I really enjoyed your video. I love byAnnie designs as much as you do. Annie is amazing. You did a great job in your video. You have such a pleasant personality.
Try Frixion pens for marking, but test on your fabric first. When hit with a hot iron, the lines disappear, but the red Frixion has a rep for leaving permanent white lines. Also, if you have a serger, and know how to set it to 1/8”, do a narrow 3 thread overlock around the edges instead of sewing. I have found it makes the seams flatter and easy to sew later. And finally, a tip from Annie herself. If sewing multiple layers is giving your machine fits, pull out a hammer and cutting board. Pound down the bulkiest part. It WILL help
I've never tried the hammer. I love frixion pens and I found out the hard way about the white markings. Thanks so much for the tips. I have a serger and I think I need to figure out how to use it.
I love your bag and your choice of fabric. I made this bag and like you it wasn’t perfect but in making our first bag we see how we would change things for the next one, and yes I am going to make more. I love your teaching style and will be following you from now on. I am so glad I came upon your channel. Your bag is awesome and until you mentioned the upside down panel no one would have known. Thank you again for your tutorial and I look forward to more. Take care.
Thank you so much for commenting I am so excited you made in through your first bag. I need to do another one because I've learned a few more tricks so stay tuned.
I love this bag!!! I have been holding the pattern for about a month reading it and studying it. Then I started looking at Annie's video. OMG, I saw your video today and gave an AMEN when I saw it. Your fabric choices, tips, hints and everything make it very real. I am ready!!! I can do this. I, too, agree that you should work her free patterns to learn the basic process. I am hooked. ByAnnie is great. You are fabulous!!!
Thank you so much for making this video. I am inspired. I am a very beginning quilter, and the thought of the bigger quilts are exhausting just looking at them. I am ready for some smaller projects, so I will try the (bags) ones you mentioned first in the video before I tackle this one. I am somewhat afraid of the bindings, but I just watched Annie;s binding video and have that to fall back to if I start having trouble. Thank you again, and can't wait to see your other bags.
Thanks for watching. I need to rewatch this video I need a little encouragement to do a few more. Bags can totally be intimidating. But I'm going to give it a go again.
I just found your channel not too long ago. I LOVE your version of the bag. I think im going to try to make the bag after the few projects I have going now. I'm a new quilter too (about a year in now) so you made me hopeful that I can make this.
You are probably the perfect person in the perfect stage to make this bag. I know you can do it. I'm so excited for you. Let me know when you finish it
Thank you for this! I just finished a By Annie project bag last night as my first bag and I REALLY want to make that carry on bag. I have caught the bag-making-bug!
I made this as my first By Annie. I’m not new to quilting, but I made it because of the Craftsy video. 2.0 was not out yet. The cost is like buying a Vera Bradley. I love your variety of fabrics.
Thank you so much for this video. I’m a beginner quilter with years of sewing experience but have never made a bag. When I saw this bag I just knew I wanted to make several of them as gifts however the pattern turned me off making them. (Yep, I’m a visual learner). I have searched You Tube and googled the internet to find anything that would assist in making them. I had never heard of Craftsy so I joined and watched the video and now it all makes sense and it’s so easy. Thank you again and absolutely love your Tula Pink bag.
I completely agree with you about needing pictures. I love ByAnnie products, but as a beginning quilter, I feel overwhelmed by her patterns. I have several patterns by have been anxious about trying them because they seem incredibly complicated. Thank you for your video. I appreciate your candor. :-) Helps me feel more confident about giving some of my patterns a try.
I just received my outside and lining fabric quilted by my LAQ yesterday. Getting ready to make this bag for a gift. I appreciate your tips in the tutorial.
If I did it I know you can. It's a scary bag but the finish feels extraordinary. Just go 1 step at a time and now I'm sure there have got to me resources. I'm thinking of doing it again with a fun pallet.
I love A1 too. I'm in Florida but hope to visit Jeanne next year. I'm just getting everything cute out. Thankyou for letting me know to look for instruction for the original bag. I was completely lost with the gaps in the video.
Your bag is beautiful. You did a great job. Love your video, thanks so much for the info. I’ve been sewing for years but these bags are a little intimidating. I can’t wait to get started on making them.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have my pattern, fabric and all the supplies. And I haven’t had the courage to start it! I was so intimidated. Your bag is beautiful and honestly I never would have noticed that your lemurs are upside down 🤣. You have a new fan! I live your sense of humor!
I love you honesty and your insight, the look of your custom print and colors is great and looks functional and that is a great accomplishment for a first major project :)
Ooo thanks for this video! I just preordered a kit for this bag with Tula Pink’s Nightshade Ver 2.0 fabric and was worried about bulk with my machine. I’m going to sew this on my vintage machine (I have messed up my feed dogs on another sewing machine before with something to bulky, so not going to risk it with my newer machine). That bag is wicked cute!
I’m subscribing to your channel! You’ve got a ton of great content. I’ll be watching your videos for a week straight to catch up. I’m telling all the gals in my guilds boutique group about you as well. You rock it girl!
Oh my gosh.....I thought I was going crazy!! Until I found you!! I have my 2.0 pattern in my hand, watching Annie on Craftsy and nothing is matching up!! But then I watched you and I feel so much better. Ready to carry on! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
What a great review of a 'by Annie' pattern. I am quite honestly addicted to her patterns, it's crazy! I was not really interested in this pattern UNTIL I watched your video. Now I have to add this one to my list. I've made the 4 free patterns she suggests to make first. And I have quite a few patterns I've been acquiring. Her Add-On videos are what inspire me as well. Thank you for your honest review! I scan the pattern instructions and then print them off black/white and color in my fabric choices.
I am so happy to hear that my video inspired you. I might have to try printing it in black and white and coloring it in. I'm going to do this bag again in a few months and that would be helpful.
I really enjoyed this video. Pain in the patootie is one of my favorite phrases! I have made this bag and love it. It’s one of my biggest accomplishments! Thanks for an entertaining video!
I like the way you explain things. English is not my native language. Its spanis, 12:27 but I understand you vdry easy. Thanks for your videos. I'm going to make these travel bag. Thanks again.
I so agree with you about patterns needing more pic's and to have side A/side B, pieces to be shown on a black and white pic would be so so helpful. nice review
Luv, luv, luv your video. So great that you show the do’s and don’ts. Keep keeping it real. And you need to come to Sew Magical Expo in Florida (don’t care about those other states) next year. ❤❤
I just got mine cut out but I am still a little intimidated. I always try to read the directions first, but Oh my goodness! Your instructions are great and you are simply adorable. So glad I found you.
I also love Annie's patterns! Just made the cute little Hold Everything bag. I agree that more illustrations would be helpful. At times I don't know what I'm doing, just have to trust that it will turn out. At the bottom of her home page is a place called "Corrections." Many of her patterns are noted including yours with all the page twos. I love the Pellon two-sided fusible foam (also comes in one-sided fusible). No need to clip, spray, or use a walking foot. I buy a whole bolt when Joann has 60% off. Purchased the YKK 30" double pull zippers bundle on Amazon for what comes out to $1.60 each. They are wide and the same as Annies. Also purchased foldover elastic on Amazon, 20 colors for $12. The 16 gauge vinyl at Joanns is $7 per yard, buy it when it's half price! She also carries some of the hardware. As you can see, I am a bargain hunter! On the other hand, I have four Berninas. Enjoyed your video😊.
This was a perfect. You bargain where it makes sense too. I love hearing about the zippers because I'd like to really mix and match. At this point in technology and patterns I think everyone should have full videos of their patterns. Thank you for this amazing share.
Great job! I see this video is about a year old, have you made another bag?? I bought this pattern this summer and it does look a bit intimating, I am a visual person too. I want video, lots of video and photos!!! Thank for sharing, just found your channel and going to dive farther into it. 😀
lol! I had fun watching your video!! I laughed at some of your comments as you were busy putting it together... like I knew you! haha... Sweet Gal !! I just watched the video tonite I will tackle my pattern.. thanx again!
First of all you are adorable! You made me giggle when you said you went rogue (I’ve been known to do that a time or two myself!). I’m taking a sewing class to make this bag starting in a little over a week. I bought beautiful sunflower fabric and can’t wait! All your pointers were so helpful!
You absolutely CRUSHED this! Such a beautiful bag
Thank you so much. This is the project I am most proud of. A beginner really can do this.

Thank you so much for leaving this comment. You have totally made my day. You can absolutely do this! I can't wait to see what you come up with.
I am so happy that I found this video! Thank you!
Me too. I hope it helped. Stay tuned I have so much more coming
I am currently making this bag. I absolutely love your color choices. I can't wait to finish it.
I'm so glad that you are enjoying this. I bet your bag is going to be fabulous.
@M A Couture Crafting I will send pic when done. What other patterns have you made by Annie. Love her patterns.
I made this bag a few years ago and absolutely love it. You did an amazing job
Thank you. It might be time to do it again for you and me.
I love you! and your love for color! I'm making this bag soon and really appreciate ALL your advice and tips!
Thank you for watching. I know your bag is going to be killer
Thank you for showing this video. You did and amazing job. Beautiful bag.
Thank you so much! This bag is one of my best quilty accomplishments
Yes I made it all the way through the video and go you! It is very helpful. Thanks 👏👏👏👏
Thanks for making it to the end.
Your bag will be amazing it's not to bad when you have already done one
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I really enjoyed it and I’m hoping you do more!!!
Stay Tuned I really do have more by Annie coming
What a great video and I love the fabric!
Thank you so much. Tula Pink is one of my favorite designers.
You are awesome! I am the beginner for sewing and you are inspires me. I gotta do it. Thanks
You can totally do it. If I can anyone can. Thanks for leaving a comment
I made this as my first By Annie. I’m not new to quilting, but I made it because of the Craftsy video. 2.0 was not out yet. The cost is like buying a Vera Bradley. I love your variety of fabrics.
Thanks for sharing I love that you made this as your first bag. People often ask me if my bag is a Vera Bradley
You did a great job. I have this pattern and finally going to make it. Love your choices.
thank you so much. This is one of my favorite makes.
This comment just made my day. I'm glad that I'm adding value to this community
Bravo to a "beginner" quilter! I aspire to make something like this. Great video!
Thank you times 10 million. If I can you can.
Thank you so much for this tut! I’m going to try and make this bag following you😊
You got this. It's not too bad we just need to go step by step.
I now need this bag in my life. Thanks for the tips.
Anytime
I completely agree with you about needing pictures. I love ByAnnie products, but as a beginning quilter, I feel overwhelmed by her patterns. I have several patterns by have been anxious about trying them because they seem incredibly complicated. Thank you for your video. I appreciate your candor. :-) Helps me feel more confident about giving some of my patterns a try.
You get me. The good thing is she has more videos now than ever before. I suggest giving one a try.
Love Love L💖VE this bag! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching
You do a beautiful job! I am really enjoying your video!
Thank you so much for watching it and hanging with me.
Thank you SO much for making this, it has helped me so many times!
I'm so happy to have helped
I just received my outside and lining fabric quilted by my LAQ yesterday. Getting ready to make this bag for a gift. I appreciate your tips in the tutorial.
I'm so super excited for this project for you. I think I'd like to make another soon. I might let my quilter do mine too for the next round.
As an experienced quilter and machine embroidery I’m so intimidated to start on my UTB too. I’ve had it for over a year. It’s intimidating
I was lost too.
Your bag is beautiful. You did a great job. Love your video, thanks so much for the info. I’ve been sewing for years but these bags are a little intimidating. I can’t wait to get started on making them.
You will be able to knock this out of the park. I know they are intimidating but with all yout experience you will do great.
For a beginner, you did an awesome job🤗❤️
Thank you so much!! I'm looking forward to trying it again soon.
Thank you so much for watching. If I can do it anyone can. Once you start you will breeze right though it.
You did an amazing job and I think your finished bag looks great! Thank you so much for this video!!!
Thank you so much and for leaving a comment
I love you honesty and your insight, the look of your custom print and colors is great and looks functional and that is a great accomplishment for a first major project :)
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment I really appreciate it
Thank you for this video ! I love the quilt behind you too!😍
Thanks for watching that quilt is on this channel too.
Your bag is going to be great
You did an amazing job. That print screams my personality and I want this bag so bad. I'm a beginner also and I can't wait to make my 1st quilted bag.
If you like this print be sure to check out everything Tula Pink. Thanks for watching
I’m subscribing to your channel! You’ve got a ton of great content. I’ll be watching your videos for a week straight to catch up. I’m telling all the gals in my guilds boutique group about you as well. You rock it girl!
Thanks so much. I'm trying so just be sure to stay tuned. Lots more stuff coming.
Oh my gosh.....I thought I was going crazy!! Until I found you!! I have my 2.0 pattern in my hand, watching Annie on Craftsy and nothing is matching up!! But then I watched you and I feel so much better. Ready to carry on! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Ooooh you just made my day. I'm so happy for you. You got this!
I'm so glad that you enjoyed thus video. I think this might be one of my greatest sewing accomplishments to date too.
I like the way you explain things. English is not my native language. Its spanis, 12:27 but I understand you vdry easy. Thanks for your videos. I'm going to make these travel bag. Thanks again.
I'm so happy you like this. I'm going to do it again soon so be sure to stay tuned.
Thank you so much for this video! I ordered the pattern and can't wait to make it! You did an awesome job on this bag and tutorial, thank you so much!
I so agree with you about patterns needing more pic's and to have side A/side B, pieces to be shown on a black and white pic would be so so helpful. nice review
Thank you. I saw someone do one in a group on fb recently it was genius
Luv, luv, luv your video. So great that you show the do’s and don’ts. Keep keeping it real. And you need to come to Sew Magical Expo in Florida (don’t care about those other states) next year. ❤❤
I've heard about sew magical. Im going to have to look into it
I just got mine cut out but I am still a little intimidated. I always try to read the directions first, but Oh my goodness! Your instructions are great and you are simply adorable. So glad I found you.
I'm glad you found me too. This bag is so doable if you just go slow. When you finish you will feel so accomplished
I keep saying I'm going to do another one but I haven't done it yet. I've got some ideas about a new bag though. Stay tuned
I think you did a wonderful job and your bag i lovely. The ribbon the strapping is a great idea and looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
You are too kind. Thank you for leaving a comment
I so agree with your comments/ suggestions about improving the patterns. I am an experienced sexist and your improvement suggestions are spot on.
This comment just made my heart swoon. I'm so glad that I'm adding valuable content to this community. Thank you for leaving this encouragement.
I always say done is better than perfect! It looks fabulous! ❤️
Thank you. I can't wait to use it

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I need to make another .
First of all you are adorable! You made me giggle when you said you went rogue (I’ve been known to do that a time or two myself!). I’m taking a sewing class to make this bag starting in a little over a week. I bought beautiful sunflower fabric and can’t wait! All your pointers were so helpful!
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. Email me or Tag me on fb or Instagram so I can ooooh and awwww over your bag.
