  • By Annie Ultimate Travelers Bag is probably one of the most popular patterns that she makes so of course I was dying to try it. I was very intimidated by this bag but I figured it out and so can you. A beginning sewer CAN absolutely make this bag. Just take my tips and watch my video so you can see where I struggled and you will be on your way.

I opened an Annie bag pattern today. I was so thoroughly confused (I am an experienced bag/zipper person), I immediately headed to youtube and found You! Loved your commentary, your humour. You spoke to me. Thank you.

Patterns byAnnie are very difficult to follow and most all of them takes an advanced sewer. They ARE NOT good with sharing any extended information, answering questions when you get stuck or even replying to an email. I am so glad to hear that your frustration with these patterns are the very same ones I had. You did fantastic job on this bag! Just one more note….Most advanced sewers would like to know the size of coil on the zippers that are used for the project. Once again thank you for your insight❣️❣️

@@MACoutureCrafting I have come to the conclusion that unfortunately byAnnie RUclips videos are 35-45 min advertisements. They claim in their heading they are a tutorial however there’s absolutely NO tutoring during these vids. I will no longer support that channel. Thank you for allowing me to rant….I feel better🤣😂😜

So true! By Annie patterns take a little mental gymnastics to understand and execute. Once you make one then you get Annie's process, but that first one is a workout. I just did A Place for Everything as my first By Annie bag and I seriously need time to recover before doing another bag, but every time I see it, I am like damn I made that.

I loved your video. You are very entertaining. I saw and heard were you had trouble with sewing the binding on. I found when I sew on the last step of the binding, it helps to decrease the pressure on your foot. My foot floated over the bulk of the binding, instead of quashing it. I t was easier to go around the curves also. Mine was set at 50 and I turned it down to 45 I think. Maybe 40. It made such a difference. OH and I love this bag also. Just recently got the pattern.

I’m in ultimate travel bag overload ! It took me 1 whole day to lay out the pattern pieces. Day 2 cutting and labeling each piece *** I’m working with teal and parrot blue duck fabric. Print with contrasting solid*** third day I watched all Annie’s videos then on the fourth day began sewing. I wasted another 2 days trying to figure out what goes where. I don’t have the foggiest idea how to construct the bag. I’ve had the pattern, fabric, mesh, hardware etc for 5 years. Everything I’ve quilted/sewn during the5 years has been according to clear directions and pictures with diagrams. This pattern reduces my skill and confidence down to beginner. After listening to the challenges you encountered I was a bit relieved.
$$$ please please please $$$ post a link or something that’ll take me to the craftsy video you found that was the most helpful. There are way too many videos that aren’t long enough to be a comprehensive teaching tool. If you can reply with information that I’ll be able to find the video on craftsy.
    TIP
    Tailoring chalk
I was desperately looking for some marking tool and found tailor marking chalk. It was free to me and thankfully hadn’t tossed it. The chalk doesn’t rub off but can be washed or wiped off.

I'm so sorry that you are having all these problems. I Assure you that you are not the only one. If you have cut out all of the pieces and quilted them you are well on your way. In fortunately because the video is behind a pay wall I can't link it here. I watched it so long ago I'm not even sure it is still available. Try googling the the first edition Ultimate Travel bag on Crafsy something might pop up

What a great review of a 'by Annie' pattern. I am quite honestly addicted to her patterns, it's crazy! I was not really interested in this pattern UNTIL I watched your video. Now I have to add this one to my list. I've made the 4 free patterns she suggests to make first. And I have quite a few patterns I've been acquiring. Her Add-On videos are what inspire me as well. Thank you for your honest review! I scan the pattern instructions and then print them off black/white and color in my fabric choices.

I am so happy to hear that my video inspired you. I might have to try printing it in black and white and coloring it in. I'm going to do this bag again in a few months and that would be helpful.

Such a great suggestion to have a whole bag illustration to be able to color it in the planning. And I love that as a beginner you rocked it out after doing the free patterns to practice the techniques and Annie’s videos on zippers. Omg - love the idea of 2 different color zipper teeth! (Lol on the marking the top on directional prints. I have done that. The instructions are surely there for a reason and I too kick myself for not following directions of the expert pattern maker). Brilliant tips.

Thank you so much for making this video. I am inspired. I am a very beginning quilter, and the thought of the bigger quilts are exhausting just looking at them. I am ready for some smaller projects, so I will try the (bags) ones you mentioned first in the video before I tackle this one. I am somewhat afraid of the bindings, but I just watched Annie;s binding video and have that to fall back to if I start having trouble. Thank you again, and can't wait to see your other bags.

OMG, I saw your video today and gave an AMEN when I saw it. Your fabric choices, tips, hints and everything make it very real. I am ready!!! I can do this.
